First time for me at Rudy’s. Friendly people … Came without an appointment and i got a nice new hair cut

I have to say this was one of my most disappointing haircuts I’ve had in a while. I decided to check this place out for the first time today, having previously heard good things about Rudys and it was close to my work. The girl that cut my hair struggled to understand my simple request, giving her the clipper numbers to use and explained how I liked it. All up she spent 15minutes!!! Including hair wash. She didn’t even bother to dry my hair and I left with it still wet. She had no attention to detail. I wouldn’t bother with this place again. I’ll be going back to my usual barber to have this mess fixed up.

Brandy does a great job here. I’ve been twice and on my second visit, I got Brandy, who is a veteran of this Rudy’s. I’d been a regular on Melrose, but this location works best for me these days. Nestled on the first floor of the Standard, this Rudy’s is a sleek, streamlined place — unlike the mroe sprawling and wilder Melrose. I’ve seen a bunch of haters for this location, and it makes me wonder. Each time there, the appointment taker/floor manager/concierge at Rudy’s has been upbeat and friendly. When I called a couple days ago to try to remember Brandy’s name, the guy on the phone was fairly close to difficult. This guy(unlike the two ladies I had met in the same position previously) was, well, Rude. Not sure why it was so inconvenient for him to help me recall her name — and I even said up front that she had done a great job. But, whatever. That aside, I’m definitely a fan at the Downtown Rudy’s.

Been coming here for about five years. Unfortunately, the service keeps getting worse and worse. For my most recent trim, the barber passive aggressively threw his towel into the sink after the cut to presumably signal that he didn’t want to wash my hair. The $ 34 cut comes with a wash, which partially justifies the high cost for a mediocre haircut. But to not even offer to wash my hair after the cut is wrong; to otherwise indicate that he didn’t want to do it is even worse. How awkward would it have been to ask at that point for a wash? Made the customer feel bad. This is too bad because some of the barbers are great.

I’ve been to other Rudy’s branches and was decently satisfied, but this one is NOT recommendable, at least not for short women’s cuts. It is so bad I’m actually looking for another appointment(elsewhere) right now to fix this disaster.

I normally go to the Rudy’s on Sunset but I actually live closer to this one. I was nervous about not going to my regular barber but they fit me in and I got a great cut. Very relieved and will be back. It’s inside the standard hotel so it’s a smaller Rudy’s with only about 3 – 4 chairs but it’s a great atmosphere and they get the job done. Men’s haircut runs you about $ 33.

So unfortunately I’m downgrading to three stars based on a customer service issue. I picked up some product at the recommendation of one of the stylists – a jar of Bumble and Bumble Sumo Wax. When I picked it up, the stylist told me if I didn’t like it, just bring it back and she’d exchange it. I used it for a few weeks(maybe three or four applications) and realized it wasn’t going to work for me. I had tried a different product in the same line called Sumo Tech. I called to ask if I could exchange the product. The gal on the phone was very sweet. She called her manager, and promptly called me back, but to no avail. They stated they don’t exchange or refund anything, so I was out the $ 33 bucks I forked over for a product that I won’t be using. You’d think they’d have at least offered a discount or something. Needless to say, with such unfriendly customer-friendly policies, I won’t be picking up any product here again.

Like others before me I’ve wanted Rudy’s to work out for me. It was so close to work I could pop in for a hair cut during my breaks and lunches. Wait times have alway been a problem here. Although they have four chairs I have never seen four stylists on duty. Even when they’re working it seems they don’t want to finish their shifts. Today, for example, I arrived at 2:30 pm for a cut. Even though the shift change wasn’t until 3:00 pm none of the departing stylists wanted to cut my hair. I have better things to do than spending 30 minutes waiting for hair cut. Hair cuts Downtown have never been cheap, but after Rudy’s recent price increases their cuts are now priced too high. A man’s haircut is now 34. After tipping it’s at least $ 40. After the lengthy waits and recent price increases I am now so over this place.

worst haircut I have ever received. stylist was either rushing to get the cut done or was simply going way too fast. she spent more time talking to the other stylist about her Eauro trip than engaging me in conversation. total disappointment…

This was my first time and I loved it! Angie did my hair and it was exactly what I wanted. She really listened to what I asked for, and she did it in no time. I’m deffinitely going back! You can find her on Sundays, and I fully recommend her! Thank you Angie for making my day!

Saw stylist Chris — she was amazing, but most importantly, my haircut was AMAZING! Super cute rocker-ish cut that was perfectly flattering to me and my style. Knowing I was in from out of town, she made a great effort to give me a cut that would be easy to maintain if I’d like, or could let it go and will not look silly as time goes by. So amazing I may be moving to LA just so I can have her tame my tresses full time! Thank you Chris!

I’ve tried to give this place a chance. I have. Solid barbers, cool Standard Hotel vibe, central and convenient location. But. The wait time. Shortest in the 20+ times I’ve been here: 20 minutes. Longest: today, which was about an hour.(It would have been more had I stuck it out.) Average: 30 – 40. And this I start the clock when I call ahead to put my name down. The worst part is that the desk will nearly always underestimate the time. Yes, they’re just too small – I’ve seen 3 barbers there at the most(usually 2). The reason why I’m assigning so much star-value to wait time is a) potential customers need to be aware they will be sorely disappointed if they want to get in and out, and b) to push this business to keep fully staffed, be more honest who wait time on the phone, or have an appointment system.

Got my haircut for the second time from here. This review is mainly for the barber Pablo, he was incredible. He usually works at the los feliz location, but I was lucky enough to come here when he was covering someone else’s shift. I might have to go to los feliz just to get a haircut from him. Usually $ 33 for a haircut + tip is pricey, but hey if the haircut is good and I like it, its totally worth it.

Jen Collins is a talent with Men’s hair(probably women’s hair too, I wouldn’t know). She knows how to give a stylish cut even if you wear your hair long like I do.(most hairdressers are clueless) You can just tell that she’s an artist. Apparently she works at the Los Feliz location too, cutting hair for all the hipsters in the area. And by the way I love that bumble and bumble hair tonic they use at Rudy’s to wet our hair, it smells great! Yep you guessed it, I“M A FAN!

I finally found exactly what I wanted — a perfect haircut at a fair price in downtown LA! I absolutely love Corinne and the haircut she gave me. She knew exactly what I wanted and executed it with no nonsense!

It’s priced pretty high for a quick haircut. Perhaps I am wrong, but I just figured for a pricier barbershop that they would treat you a little bit above the typical shop. The style is even, although shorter than I preferred. At least they have knick-knacks to buy on the way out like glass dildos and Tom’s shoes… wait…why do they have these there?

I’ve been getting haircuts here for the past several years. I walk a block to get there. Usually less than a 15 minute wait. Small space, but it works. I always ask for Corrine as she gives a great short cut and is fun to chat with. This store is located near the lobby of the Standard Hotel. After your cut you can grab a drink in the hotel or across the street at Public School 612. Prices went up Nov 1 and $ 33 for a regular men’s cut is hard to swallow. That includes a shampoo, which the competition does not include. A shampoo afterwards is handy if you are not headed straight to a shower. Supercuts is $ 15.50. Bolt Barbershop, $ 28. Floyd’s Barbershop on Melrose, $ 24.

Never get your haircut with Angie. She’s rude and chops your hair like she’s going through sheep’s wool. She’s done messing you up in less than 5 minutes and gets ready for a new victim… Gave the place 2 stars simply because the other stylists don’t deserve the bad rep for one bad apple… If your going to try this place, go with Amanda, she’s great.
