The Groovy Gourmet Pnut Butter Bar

Due to my poor Unilocal review, the owner of the truck reached out to me, and offered to make it up to me by offering a free dessert with my next order. I decided to take them up on it. After now trying their food, I can certainly say I have no desire to go back. Their overpriced burger literally tasted like something I would get at McDonalds. And the dessert I had reminded me of carnival food: tasty, but with a greasy after feeling. But I will leave them with 2 stars this time since they did make an effort to better my experience.

I have to say the stalkers have mixed feelings here.
I’ve tried 2 items here, my partner one. I tried the slide or ride slider and we’ve both tried the wings.
The slide or ride was interesting, a pulled pork slider with a peanut bbq marinade and sauce. Very nice flavor, very original.
The chicken wings are the problem. We each got an order. Mine were good, crispy on the outside with a tasty sauce. My partner, undercooked. Still red near the bone. She threw them out as I would have had I received them that way.
Neither of us are big PB&J fans so nothing else was tried.
But 1 point off for undercooked wings which is a shame because the food was good other than that.

As I was scoping out the attendees for the Arcadia Gourmet Food Truck Music-​Fest I noticed the clean looking Pnut Butter logo. Having recently trying a peanut butter and banana hot dog elsewhere, and enjoying it, I knew had to give a truck that was dedicated to peanut butter a try.
Now if you like family owned restaurants you’re going love The Groovy Gourmet. I step up to order and the mom is just about as sweet as their treats helping me to order and letting me know all the scrumptious options offering to customize however I want. She introduce me to her son, who even offered to top off my melted whipped cream as I was waiting for my second order. The dad let me know the «THANK YOU… THANK YOU VERY MUCH» their version of the Elvis is probably the most popular sandwich.
Anyway, so I order the Pnut Butter puffs and I thought they were going to be small so I ordered a large and small ending up with 6 GIGANTIC PUFFS.
Tried them in two flavors.
PEANUT BUTTER with BANANA NUTELLA
Ok, while this picture might not due justice… this ooey gooey treat was delight from the start. Melted and runny, warm and sweet topped with a few crushed peanuts and whipped cream it’s what a guilty pleasure should be.
PEANUT BUTTER with CARAMEL — So these were filled entirely with peanut butter and I’d have to say it was bit of peanut explosion (too much good stuff). Needless to say, I didn’t finish my whole order of 6 puff so one of these made it home. Oddly, it was better the next day as the dough firmed up and I could tear it apart and not sink it to massive peanut butter overload.

Just had theit Thank You… Thank You Very Much tribute to Elvis. It’s PB, Honey, Bacon and Banana and it was delicious. Now regretting not getting their fried peanut butter dessert. Yum!

This is not a joke. Made one of my daily stops at the trucks on wilshire and ate a peanut butter, honey, banana and bacon sandwich.

Finally. I’ve found this truck! You see, they’re not so great about tweeting their locations, or rather… when they’re leaving. So on more (or maybe 3 occasions) I’ve gone to where they’ve tweeted to find no truck… or the truck driving away. It’s a little frustrating. Which is the only reason I’m docking it a star.
As for the food, I dig it. Though the burger is pretty plain jane looking, it tasted good, savory & sweetness of the strawberry jam and a little bit of kick from the peanut butter sauce. It’s what I wanted Grill Em All’s Dee Snider to taste like, sans the sriracha. I’d get it again.
Now the peanut butter puffs are super delicious… it’s a fried donut stuffed with peanut butter and jam. If you dig fried foods, these are definitely worth the truck down for.

I guess I was just expecting more value for the dollar. Consider that a peanut butter and Nutella sandwich on plain white bread costs six dollars. Six dollars could probably make a loaf’s worth of these sandwiches at home, at the same quality. I would recommend staying away from the sandwiches for this reason, except for the ones that have exotic ingredients. I’ve heard good things about their burger, but I’ve never tried it.
The winner here — and what saves this truck from a bad rating — is the Pnut Butter Puff. Five dollars gets you two puffs, and nine dollars gets you four, each a little smaller than a closed fist. They are very tasty, flaky, and tender. These alone are worth stopping in for.
The staff is very nice, as well. That’s always a plus.

Today is one of those random days where I feel blessed about the weirdest things. Like not having peanut allergies THANK THE LORD. Although, if I did have peanut allergies, I’d probably risk my life anyway for the epic deliciousness this groovy truck has to offer.
I just had the «Kiss the Pig» sandwich and the Pnut Butter Puffs about an hour or so ago and I’m still reeling from their brilliant flavors and textures. My only regret was that I did not get the «Thank you, Thank You Very Much,» (banana, pb, bacon, honey sandwich) too!

Kiss the Pig: This is almost like a grilled cheese sandwich, only you replace the cheese with PEANUT BUTTER + NUTELLA + BACON. To be honest, I was really really skeptical about this one. I’m not a die-​hard bacon fan and I have never had it with anything but breakfast or wrapped around meat… until today. THIS IS DELICIOUS. Please order this one. The bread was nice, crispy, and toasted and the pb and nutella were perfectly gooey and melty. The bacon adds a really nice crispiness in the middle of it all and if you are a fan of the salty and sweet, this sandwich will definitely do it for you. Pnut Butter Puffs: They are right when they say, «Like a beignet… but better!» This deep fried baby is stuffed with peanut butter, your choice of nutella or several jams, topped with chocolate sauce, and whipped cream — if you so desire. Although deep fried, this did not feel heavy or overly greasy. It was nice and crispy almost all the way around on the outside and soft with all your melted ingredients on the inside. A most worthy dessert, if I may say so myself.
I agree with the person who left the review about feeling milk-​less! We were eating our puffs at home and I totally wished I had milk in my fridge to complete the whole meal… and I’m lactose intolerant! That aside, I’m really looking forward to seeing this truck get more popular! Will definitely be back again to try out some of their other works. :)

The Groovy Gourmet Pnut Butter Bar is unique.
I’d never had not thought of having peanut butter and strawberry jelly on a hamburger but at the urging of the truck’s chef I did just that last night.
I also tried the Air Thai Wings. More peanuty deliciousness.
With my check-​in offer I got a free Peanut Puff which is basically a beignet stuffed with peanut butter.

Can I say Wow and Wow again… What a pleasant surprise. Who would have thought that peanut and jelly could be so could a partner with juicy Kobe beef, soft bread, pickles, and delicious cheddar cheese.
Please tell your friends and try something from the PnutButter Bar. You won’t regret it.

Putting peanut butter and Jelly on your burger may have been a new concept a couple of years back, but it seems like it’s a normal thing now for your standard «out there» type of burger. But with that said on it not being the most original, the groovy gourmet still does it pretty well.
And if you’re not down with a burger with the PB&J, you have yourself some major options with the truck. Though, if you don’t dig peanut butter, you’re pretty much screwed. Perhaps you should look to a different truck.
Anyhow, they have an Elvis inspired PB&J that. well, you may end up dead on a toilet after you had this banana bacon and honey PB&J sandwich.
And if you’re not feeling the calorie counting by the end of those options, you can get yourself a Pnut butter puff that really is delicious. but looks like it can really destroy any diet you ever attempted to try.
The truck turn around is also pretty quick. At least it was even though there was a good line of about 10 people who ordered up before me.
Prices are pretty good for truck food and with the originality that this truck adds to the to the normal PB&J related items, it’s really well worth trying and seeing if it’s your thing or not.

I’m a sucker for nastalgia. When I heard about a truck that sells peanut butter and jelly I felt a little like a nine year old with $ 5 to spend on anything he wants at Seven Eleven. The snack possiblilities are endless so I needed to go into this with a clear head and muster up all my little kid strategy skills.

Soooo I arrive… Walk up to the truck… Menu doesn’t look the same as on line… Can’t really tell what to get but now I’m looking at the «Thank you, Thank you very much» (peanut butter, banana, bacon, bread). Menu hadn’t changed but it was a little hard to discern what was going on here… I like peanut butter and banana so I’ll give it a try. Next, milk. Can’t eat peanut butter anything without milk. «Do you have any milk?» «No we’re out right now…»
Panic begins to set in! Why would you have a peanut butter truck with no milk??? Should I walk the streets of Hollywood and find some milk… No, I don’t see anything in sight… I’m just going to order my sandwich and a water. Maybe this can still be good: (There’s a local band playing in front of the truck so I can still have a time, right???
Yes, I enjoyed my sandwich… The bacon was a perfect addition to peanut butter and banana. The bread was grilled which is always good. However, could they have used better bacon? Yes. Could they have used better bread? Yes. This is after all a gourmet food truck right? Would I pay more for better bacon and bread? Absolutely! So no excuse.
Great idea but so far not perfect execution. With all the hype out there about food trucks I’m not sure if anything could beat the perfect pb&j.
I just can’t give Pnut Butter Truck more than three stars. Biggest factors were lack of milk and and clearity. I’ll admittedly take part of the blame here cause I knew I should bring my own milk but forgot. I think they must have thought of this already though since they own a peanut butter truck.
I’ll be visiting this truck again, so nice Pnut Butter Truck lady, please have milk, please have a clear menu and pictures. I look forward to updating my review.

So I’ve been slacking off on my reviews as of late… as noted by many people on several occasions (my bad)…then a NEW Food Truck parks itself in front of my intended destination this weekend… and poof… I’m newly inspired!!!
Pnut Butter Bar ROCKS!!! So here’s how it went down:
On our way to LACMA to see my BFF’s co-worker’s Dance Performance (07−24−11) and we’re talking about where we should eat. She had all kinds of awesome ideas since she used to live in the area. We park across the street from LACMA and notice some food trucks parked near the cross walk. Uh oh! Should we try out the street food vendor’s instead? Why YES… we shall!
I have to say that we initally stopped and looked at Pnut Butter Bar and decided we’d come back to it for dessert. In hindsight, we should have read the menu more (and hopefully the magnetic menu that wasn’t sticking that day has been replaced so everything is a bit more pronounced for passers by like us) since they offered both real meals AND desserts. Whoops! Went down the way, tried the other truck (not overly impressed) and came back to Pnut Butter Bar.
Greeted by both the super sweet and friendly owner herself, Kharyn, and her BFF’s son who was working with her that day… we were not sure what to order. Since her truck is NEW, her professional pictures of the food and the BIG easy to read menu were in the process of being completed. After debating amongst ourselves, Kharyn asked us several questions, explained a bunch of the items to us and basically guided us in the right direction for our final order. Since my BFF and I planned on splitting the desserts so we could try more than one we settled in on the following…
CHOCONUT MONKEY ON A CLOUD: Organic PB & Nutella, Banana, and Marshmallow Fluff for $ 5.00. So yes, we’ve both had other similar panini style concoctions elsewhere before but this item could pass for both a sandwich or a dessert since it’s not overly sweet. It was as I described it, in a quick YouTube bound Clip via an impromptu Motorola Flip Camera video session while eating our Choconut Sammy, an «Ooey Gooey Mess of Delightfulness.» Since it was hot outside, it was a little messy but that seemed to only make it better! Licking Nutella and PB off my fingers was like the chaser after the initial bite. Nom nom nom…
S’MORES PNUT BUTTER PUFF: DEEP FRIED BRIOCHE stuffed with a Cookie, Marshmallow Fluff, and loaded with Milk Chocolate, then topped with fresh Whipped Cream and Chocolate for $ 5.00. This was a new type of puff she was trying out (not on the visible menu). Definitely DESSERT! Holy Guacamole! Deep Fried Heaven!!! I told Kharyn that this was exactly the type of item you WISHED you could get at the OC Fair… since they deep fry everything with horrible stomach issues to follow. She fried it in peanut oil which made it light, crispy, and not at all oily. OMG… to die for!!! Definitely a sweet tooth favroite.
Lastly, we didn’t order anything else but Kharyn suggested we try a «sample»: of the original Pnut Butter Puff. Like we were going to say no to a free sample! Ha!
ORIGINAL PNUT BUTTER PUFF: Deep Fried Brioche stuffed with Raspberry Jam, topped with fresh whipped cream and chocolate for $ 5.00 (free for us). So here we are, filled to the brim, thinking we’d be getting a bite each of this puff. Ummm, no… she actually gave us a Full Order for free! Shut the front door! Kharyn rocks!!! She told us it was completely different from the S’mores Puff and IT WAS! This would be better suited for someone who likes a savory/​sweet dessert rather than a sweet/​sweet dessert. It was like a «Beignet». DELISH!!! So light and fluffy… like the world’s best stuffed doughnut… just 100 times better! The Brioche and peanut oil frying technique set these artery clogging delights apart from others I’ve tried. The fact that after being full and still gladly pigging out some more on our free fare, it wasn’t a «Oh man, I shouldn’t have eaten that dessert» feeling you get at the Fair. Just pure mouthwatering satisfaction!
So kudos to Kharyn and my new favorite Food Truck discovery! She says she is usually parked in front of LACMA on weekends! Be sure to check out the other menu items like hotdogs, hamburgers, etc. She incorporates peanut butter in some way shape or form into all of the food… think «Thai» (and yes, peanut butter on a hotdog is actually fantastic!). This is a food truck only and has no stationary restaurant attached. Stop in a give Kharyn some love! You can’t miss the adorably painted truck… such a great name Kharyn!

While this truck is certainly groovy in a very Brady way; you may want to call by it’s nickname, the PNUTBUTTER Truck. Because every item on the menu contains peanut butter; including the main courses.
I had the P, B & J sliders which are exactly what you are thinking; a couple of 2 oz burgers on a bun lined with PB, cheese, chili sauce, pickles and my choice of J. The friendly owner Kharyn (who I will bet never expected me to spell her name right) has 4 types of J to go with the PB. I chose one with strawberry and the other with apricot, which means I had to decline the grape and blueberry, and unbelievably the combo worked. These were some pretty good sliders.
They were about 2 oz each, and fit nicely on sturdy, but dry bun. The bun was really the only drawback, I think I would have preferred something like a King’s Hawaiian or even a plain old hamburger bun.
This is a new truck and Kharyn had yet to post the required NO SMOKING WITHIN 40 FEET sign, but she assures me she will. And since I really enjoyed the sliders, I will probably be back soon to check up on her.
