South Bay Children’s Medical Group

Just as the other reviewers already commented, this place claims to be an urgent care with acceptable hours but are completely unreachable despite their hours being clearly posted on the door and the website. We had an emergency with my little one and no one answered the phone at 6pm on Saturday and the place was completely dark. An answering service would have been extremely helpful even just to confirm that no one is at the office. Do yourself a favor, if you have an after hours emergency, try Los Gatos Urgent Care which is only open until 6 on weekends and 9 on weekdays and offers pediatric care. It isn’t great but an acceptable alternative if you fit into the block of time. Don’t bother with this place if you actually need urgent care. The only reason I give this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because their Pulmonologist, Dr. Fox, is fantastic. If I had the chance to review just him, I’d give him a 5.

They are advertised as urgent care on the weekends, I went on a Sunday around 4 and they were closed. I rechecked their web page and all the info was saying they were open.
The place was locked and dark! I had my little one feeling ill and wanted to have her seen instead of the ER. That didn’t happen, can’t believe they claim to be open on weekends and they weren’t!

The service by the secretary is way below par. The doctors may be good but I was never able to make it that far due to the block by Kim the secretary. Rude doesn’t even begin to describe they way she speaks to people. Find another clinic to go to if you have too. Avoid this place at all costs until they get ride of Kim.

I’m new to this blue shield insurance deal. I look at my. Local providers and found this was the only children’s urgent care CLOSE to Morgan Hill. Next was LPCH.
I gave Dr Fox a call and told him about my son having a fever of 104.4. Dr Fox said bring him in. I like that I was able to talk directly to Dr Fox him self and see him right away.
When I arrived he didn’t have a RN to help him register so he asked that I be patient while he pulls up some documents. Needless to say he was quick and had the front desk down. Wait was not long. We where in and out with out with some medication to help boy feel better. My son has the. Flu

Dr. Fox is excellent! We were in town visiting family and my son had a high fever for a few days. We called for an appointment and they took us within two hours. The nurse was out that day and Dr. Fox was able to do it all (paperwork, insurance info, etc.) He explained everything to my little guy before he did things. He’s very good with kids! We would definitely go back :)

I took my son here some time ago. Got in quick same day to after hours urgent care, it was terrific (or as terrific as urgent care can be). Doctor Fox has AMAZING bedside manner with kids.

5 star for Dr. My daughter was having severe constipation and it was weekend. Got appointment quickly. Dr was really nice to explain us in detail. He explained short term action items and also long term care to be taken at length (even when he knew that we were there only for urgent care). Medicine and recommendation by him worked so effectively that we did not have to visit our regular doctor.
I did read other comments about place and charges. but frankly, I care most about medical treatment my child receives and that was excellent.

We have been bringing our 4 year old son to Doctor Fox for a couple years now, and at our first appointment with him I knew within the first few minutes that we made an EXCELLENT decision. In his calm, soothing voice Dr. Fox explained that most pediatricians approach a condition in your child with too much respect, that they «dance» with it, coexist with it and attempt to gradually rid your child of whatever it may be. He then said «I want to destroy the condition so your child is healthy as soon as possible.» I was SOLD from that moment forward.
Over the past 2 years Dr. Fox and the South Bay Children’s Medical Group has been our son’s savior! After hours appointments are HUGE!!! We are so VERY grateful for everything Dr. Fox has done for our son that words don’t come close to our appreciation and RESPECT for him.
I must admit, we are a little puzzled by the negative comments about the receptionist (s) at South Bay Children’s Medical Group as we have had nothing but positive experiences with them. Our son is by no means easy to keep focused, but the receptionist has always been gentle and understanding with him,
We see Dr. Fox more than we see our son’s pediatrician now.

This place tried to reply and say they called first before charging my card and that is NOT true. I called verizon and they gave me all in & out going calls and there was none from this place. I put a note to CALL first before charging my card and they did not do this period. When I tried to call the lady was very rude, I am not the only person that thinks this.

After hours care that was nearby and quick! We came her after my 16 month old fell and cut open her eyelid and needed to be glued. He quickly did the paperwork and got her all fixed up in 10 minutes. Taylor loved their office and was running around pointing at the animals on the wall and quickly taking out all their books and reading. He was the only one there and is open until 7:30 PM. He was very helpful and I’m sure we will be back since I have Twins that are constantly getting into trouble!

My 4 year old was seen by Dr. Fox. Dr. Fox was excellent. Great bedside manner for my son, and was able to relay serious information to me without scaring my child. I feel comfortable going back again. There were cute murals in the office and a bunch of toys. The outside of the building looks run-​down, but the inside was nice and clean. I too had a less than happy experience with the phone staff, but really, I got the needed appointment, camped out in front of the office in case there was a no-​show, and got in to see Dr. Fox as quickly as possible. (There are other children who are sick too, not just mine. So any difficulty I had waiting wishing I could be seen sooner was Mama anxiety on my part, not Dr. Fox’s.)

Words can not express how grateful I am for Dr Fox and South Bay Children’s Clinics. My son (11months) has asthma and after a week with a cold serious breathing problems, our pediatrician we were at a loss as to how to fix this. Our pediatrician recommending visiting Dr. Fox to see if there was anything he could do.
Dr. Fox spent and hour (no one waiting) with my son and I to determine how to fix him. With a few tweaks to his medication and a minor addition, he was back to normal in 2 – 3 days.
I have been in for one follow up appointment and Dr. Fox and I are both pleased with our son’s progress.
I have been to South Bay Children’s Urgent care once before — for our daughter — she had pink eye. We were seen quickly and the doctor (not Dr. Fox) was very helpful.

Dr. Fox is my guiding light for my son’s health. The first time I met with Dr. Fox regarding some respiratory issues my son was having, he took over an hour to examine my son and explain to me in minute detail what was going on and how we were going to treat it. He was so familiar with what I was describing he could almost finish my sentences! He was only the second doctor in the seven years since I have had kids that really made me feel like he listened, knew what he was talking about, and had a practical, well reasoned course of treatment. Under his care my son’s illnesses are just like any other kids, and not the nightmares we had experienced before.
I have generally seen Dr. Fox through the pulmonary clinic, which is by appointment, and only once as urgent care. (This is really a subtle distinction since its the same office, staff and hours of operation). It sure beats other urgent cares or ER’s, especially since it is focused on pediatrics. Although you don’t have to have one, calling ahead for an urgent care visit can make your wait even shorter. Even if your insurance doesn’t cover it, it’s a very reasonable rate.

Good:
Dr. Fox was exceptional for an urgent care facility. He took time and provided a detailed analysis.
Also the wait times were much shorter than other places I called.
Bad:
The receptionist was abrupt and rude.
Bad policy: When I called to ask a follow up question the following day, I was told repeatedly that they could not help. I needed to call my primary doctor.
This is despite me paying full price for the visit since she refused to run my insurance (even though I found their name on the Aetna HMO providers page for my account).
Also, the building and office are run down if this matters to you.

The clinic is more concerned about a patent’s insurance than the patient’s physical condition.
My child was fading in and out of consciousness with a fever and the receptionist told me I should have an appointment?! Additionally, payment is required before the receptionist even will consider taking down the child’s symptoms! That is just crazy policy.
