History

Established in 1970.

Past

In the early 1970’s, Mammoth Lakes was a fledgling California winter resort catering to a hardcore group of mostly weekend skiers. The town’s lodging, population and activity concentrated around the main road, which had bypassed Old Mammoth Creek Road.

In 1975, a Scottish couple, Tony and Marie Campbell, purchased the lodge and, along with their two young daughters, settled in to its comfortable 3 bedroom apartment. Over the following 29 years, the Campbells welcomed guests from all over the world

Present

The lodge’s proud new owner renamed it Mammoth Creek Inn and has carried on its tradition of comfort and congeniality while creating Mammoth’s most recently renovated and discriminating boutique hotel. The Inn now offers 26 beautiful rooms and suites just minutes from world-​class winter and warm weather sports and recreation, and is convenient to all the dining, shopping and other amenities Mammoth Lakes offers.

We couldn’t have been happier to spend Thanksgiving here! A full kitchen was a key feature for this trip and it had everything we needed to complete our Thanksgiving Dinner. We stayed in the room with a loft which was plenty spacious for the whole family including our dog! Two full bathrooms, king sized bed and 2 pull out couches were clean, warm and comfy. The oversized sliding glass door was a window to a winter wonderland with a view of mountains and trees. The absolute best feature for me was the spa and sauna, a nightly ritual to soothe your muscles after a long adventurous day!
I can’t complain about the location either. It is next to a creek with a pleasant and beautiful hiking trail while also being close to the free mountain shuttle to the slopes.
I would definitely stay here again.

What a gem I found to spend Presidents Day Weekend. The new renovated boutique hotel exceeded my expectations. They have a continental plus breakfast included which provided healthy options like oatmeal, tons of fresh fruit and hard boiled eggs. We had a shuttle service to take us to the mountain and we became good friends with our driver Tom who was the best. So accommodating, even helped us get reservations & pulled strings when the restaurant was booked. There are only 25 rooms, some awesome lofts and they are pet friendly. Also I loved the fresh cookies in the main area with strawberry water and peppermint tea. Bonus was that it was priced so reasonable. I will be back!

The hotel was better than we expected. Very close by to great restaurants and to the mountain! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bed was very fluffy and comfortable and the pillows were spectacular. Our favorite part of the hotel was the excellent shuttle service by Tom the driver. He was always here early to take us to the lodge and was always willing to help! We will definitely stay here next time we come!

After riding the mountain all day this was an easy stay. The décor of the lobby is log cabin-​esk and they offer continental breakfast in the morning… Not sure what they offer I didn’t want to spend anymore time here than I had to.
The room was a bit small for the price but it’s close to the mountain so slightly understandable. The heating unit takes a bit to warm up the room so if you need to warm your body quickly, there’s a jacuzzi, sauna or steam room in the basement.
The beds are not the best and many of the towels had stains in them. The room walls are also thin so hopefully your neighbors don’t have the volume on their tv too loud (ours did). From 2am until and 6am the noise was beating through the walls. I was tossing and turning trying to ignore the noise but couldn’t handle it any longer so I went downstairs to speak with a manager only to find a sign on the office desk reading «ring the bell outside of the front door for assistance». When I rang the bell a guy came out from one of the rooms and asked me what was wrong. When I told him I had been up since 2am because of the loud noises coming from the neighbor he followed up with some irrelevant questions and said that he was really just security and I’d have to speak to the manager in the morning, she comes in at 7am.
I went back to my room and the noise went on for a while longer. My boyfriend saw me restless and put the bathroom fan on to drown out some of the noise so I could get SOME sleep.
In the morning, I stopped by the front desk to talk to them about what happened and the manager lady, I suppose, was just as irritating saying, ok I’ll tell them they need to turn it down. As angry as I was that she didn’t seem to care what bit or know what customer service is, I requested that they take care of our room for the inconvenience. Her response was oh I can’t take care of the whole thing, you did stay here, but I will take care of half. Worthless… This place is worthless with awful customer service.

My fiancé and I have re-​booked Mammoth Creek Inn several times on our trips to Mammoth due to the dependability of the facilities, convenience of the location, and beauty of the Mammoth Lakes area. We will continue to return here as long as it continues to meet our standards. Thank you to the staff for great hospitality. Breakfast is delightful. Bathrobes are often provided and are so comfortable! We love walking out the door in the morning to the beautiful mountain view from the parking lot and the crisp smells of the fresh air. Great value for the money.

I love Mammoth Creek. It’s the go to place for me. The rooms are nice and clean… Great staff very helpful and friendly. Across from my favorite breakfast place… the Stove. And walking distance from a lot of restaurants, shopping and bars.
It still has the old mammoth charm that I have grown to know and LOVE
They serve a continental breakfast and very good coffee.

Have you ever seen the movie Saw? Imagine one of jigsaws dungeons and put a breakfast bar inside of it. Now you have the continental breakfast room at the mammoth creek inn. I do not recommend. It’s in a basement and it’s scary.
Paper thin walls… as in you can hear everything your neighbor does. And I mean everything.
Overall a great experience. The staff is the best part and the prices are reasonable!

This was my first time to Mammoth and staying at the Mammoth Creek Inn. This place was absolutely amazing! In fact they were so amazing I created this Unilocal account specifically to give them this stellar review. The staff was extremely welcoming and accommodating. My four friends and I booked a room with a king bed and a pullout couch because it was the best room we could afford. However, upon arrival we were upgraded to a two story suite at no extra cost! I was extremely grateful for this because it gave us two additional twin beds versus having to sleep on a pullout. The staff really did go above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable and pleasant stay.
This hotel is also in a convenient location with a Vons and many restaurants within a five minute walk. They always have cookies and hot tea/​coffee available in the lobby area along with board games you can check out to take back to your room! The complimentary breakfast was also a really nice with many selections. The downstairs sauna and spa was another bonus, especially after a long day out on the slopes.
I highly recommend this hotel. Staying at this place was definitely one of the highlights of my friends’ and I first trip to Mammoth. I can say with the utmost sincerity that it was worth every cent that I paid. Thank you Mammoth Creek Inn! We will definitely be back!

Third year in a row staying at the Mammoth Creek Inn for annual ski weekend. It’s the right balance between affordable and comfortable. The rooms are nice enough with modern bathroom granite and bedding. There’s a little fridge we always stock after visiting Von’s right down the street. Free parking and wifi. But the real selling point is the hot tub. Downstairs, indoor, and your room has soft white robes you can wear down there. After a day on slopes, happy hour at the hot tub is mandatory to our après-​ski festivities. There’s also coffee/​tea/​cocoa/​cookie situation in the lobby at all times.
After the hot tub we like to play Scrabble (they have board games) in the lobby in front of the fireplace before dinner. There is also a billiards room. It’s a really homey, cozy, friendly little place. Ten minute drive from the mountain, but we have Vons, several decent restaurants, Starbucks (next to Vons a mini), and a ski/​Board rental shop all within a block. Tempted to try a «ski in/​out» accommodations, but it’s hard to cough up more money when MCI is so cute, cozy, welcoming. Staff is also very nice.
The free continental breakfast has decent options for all types– from dainty yogurt and fruit to heartier pastries and hard boiled eggs. I’m partial to the oatmeal and fresh berries.
They have instated a new $ 10/​night «resort fee» which is quite annoying, but it seems all the hotels in mammoth do so, some as $ 25/​night.
One thing I’d recommend is bringing a humidifier with you if you have one. The heating in mountain towns always dries us out and sometimes make sleeping difficult.

This hotel is small and that is perhaps what distinguishes it from the rest.
The staff is very courteous and accommodating, rooms and shared spaces such as the lobby are kept in a very good shape and provede the mountain resort authenticity.
The complimentary breakfast was a pleasant surprise with an ample selection of items!
Overall my stay here was a very pleasant experience.

Super happy about this find. I’ll admit that there were extenuating circumstances but that is what service is all about. We showed up and were told that our reserved room wasn’t available so they’d upgraded us to the loft suite. It was a beautiful room with mountain views. The breakfast was good. The staff very friendly. The location is close to a lot of good local restaurants and shops, and far enough away from the village to feel a little less tourist– trapped.

Loved the Mammoth Creek Inn! I decided to spend just a bit more than basic Motel 6’s in the area and was so happy I did. The spa area is amazing with a great hot tub, sauna and steam room. Perfect after a day on the mountains. The breakfast was also surprisingly plentiful with a number of options. The front staff was always friendly and there are a handful of decent restaurants and a great bar within (short) walking distance.
The negatives were minor but should be noted. The walls are thin and you can hear everything in the hall way and above you. If you are sensitive to noise request second floor for sure. The king size bed, while comfortable, was actually two twins and the material that smoothed the spaced in between bunched really easily and got slightly annoying. The maid seemed irritated when we weren’t out of the room when she wanted to clean it and did a lackluster job (didn’t touch the bathroom) when she did.
Overall, I think for the price this is a great hotel and we have found our go-​to place to stay in Mammoth. If you’re super picky, I can see you being underwhelmed but this was a big step up from the basics.

Came here for a last minute 2 night Mammoth trip. Got a great price compared to other hotels in the area, great location — next to good restaurants and a good bar, the breakfast had a lot of options, the steam room, sauna and hot tub were awesome after a day of snowboarding! The only con was that we couldn’t get the wifi to work. Other than that, it was a great hotel at a great price.

I work in the backcountry of Yosemite during the summers and occasionally I like to escape to Mammoth Creek Inn for some luxury. They have a great staff, comfortable beds, a hot tub/​sauna/​steam room down stairs, and a good complimentary breakfast. Every year I go there for my birthday and the manager, Tim, always remembers and makes our visit extra special. The rooms are a little on the small side but they have huge lofts available. For the price, it’s a steal. I have stayed at several other Mammoth hotels before discovering this one and it’s hands down my favorite.

Had my tour group here for three nights in late Sept/​early Oct with nine rooms. TIm (General Manager?) was very helpful and responded positively to every request I had for clients. Breakfast was fine, spa area was clean when used by the group.
Great location: There is USFS open space beyond the parking lot on the south side of the building.
One thing I would recommend when making a reservation: Either request a second floor room, or if you need a first floor room, request one at the back of the building. Reason: First floor rooms at the front of the building look out at a building that is only about ten feet away. But then you really shouldn’t be spending that much time in your room if you are in Mammoth ;-)

North Hills, Los Angeles, CA
Just an OK experience. Overall everything was taken care of and there were absolutely no problems. On the positive side: Michael the manager was very helpful and went out of his way to make sure our stay was perfect. There was a shuttle that picked us up from the airport, took us back and forth to the ski area, and also transported us to dinner in town if needed. There are a several size rooms here, some are small and others bigger. There is a new Flat Screen TV, ipod dock, fridge and coffee maker in the room.
On the negative side, the rooms have a wall heater that kept giving me problems with the thermostat so the room was either too hot or too cold, There was a lot of drafts of cold air which I felt through the window and also in the main room under the front door. There is no AC in the summer time so some of the rooms, especially the lofts upstairs probably get hot (there are fans however) The WiFi was very very slow. There is also an indoor spa downstairs that has both a wet and dry sauna and Jacuzzi. The problem with the Jacuzzi was that the power jets were way below standard as far as jet strength. This is a ski resort town so they should know how important it is to have powerful jets in the spa to help ease sore leg and back muscles. Also some of the towels for spa use were torn and tattered. The old towels should have been thrown out and used as rags.
