Glenn Reit, DDS

Dr Reit is hands down the absolute best dentist I have ever been to. He has been nothing short of fantastic in helping me with an array of different dental issues, which I had been avoiding dealing with. He is super-​honest and trustworthy, and went out of his way to help me cut down on my expenses and advising me about insurance. No one likes dental work, but Dr Reit makes it as easy and navigable as it can possibly be, and his assistants are all super nice.

I’ve been very impressed by Dr. Reit’s sincere interest in his patients’ well-​being and would recommend him to any of my friends and family.

I’ve been going to Dr. Reit for about a year and a half now and I’ve always really enjoyed it there. I broke a tooth last weekend and he fit me in last minute to fix it, and he gave me multiple options (and price points) for fixing my tooth. He’s always really funny and very candid about the clinical picture. If I’m vain about anything it’s my teeth, and I’ll keep coming back to him for as long has he keeps practicing.

Dr. Reit is an artist! I called at 7 pm the night I broke a tooth and his very nice and friendly and caring receptionist fit me in at 9:30 the next morning. The office is not your typical showy UES palace, but who cares. My paperwork took all of 2 minutes and he came out to bring me inside the office almost immediately. Dr. Reit assessed the problem, took X-​rays, walked me through EXACTLY what my insurance would and would not cover, explained all my options, and 2 hours later I went home with no pain and looking like my old self again. Better, actually. He found time to fix two old problems caused by my former hack of a dentist, despite having a packed schedule. I could not believe how much of a difference he made. His assistant Doris is absolutely wonderful and they communicate almost telepathically. I was very unsettled by my emergency situation and they both made me feel completely at ease. And, most importantly, his work is simply flawless. THANK YOU, Dr. Reit!

I needed a dentist fast because of a problem with an infected crown. I initially got into one dental office on the west side, same day, who wanted to pull the tooth that day and didn’t even take my insurance when on the phone they said they did. He said, ‘I’m not sure but I think the root is cracked so we need to pull the tooth now’. I was like ‘you think?!! You don’t even know?’ He said ’ I could send you to an endodontist but I know they would agree with me’. I didn’t even agree to the extraction, when that dentist came at me with numbing medication! I said ‘wait– I need to think about this and get another opinion!’ I ran from that office so fast!
Thank goodness for Dr REIT! After cooling off for a few minutes, I went to trusty Unilocal and found Dr Reit’s info. I called and they were able to get me in right away. I was greeted by a very nice receptionist and the hygienist was super nice. I told her my horror story with the other dentist and she said ‘honey, they should have sent you to an endodontist first!’ She advised that I not tell Dr Reit initially about the other dentist so he could give me his own opinion. He took X-​rays and said ‘I don’t see a fracture but I want to send you to an endodontist to consider an apical procedure. That way they can clean out the infection and save the tooth’. He called one right away and sent me on my way down to Murray Hill to see an excellent endodontist who agreed with apical procedure and then Dr Reit referred me to an oral surgeon, Dr Carey Miles, who got me in within two business days, and did a great job and literally did the procedure in 10 minutes! After that my crown and tooth healed perfectly. Thank you Dr Reit for saving my tooth!!!

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Reit.
I discovered last year I had 2 major cavities and needed root canals and crowns! Dr. Reit worked with me trying to get as much insurance coverage as possible. He even fit me in after hours as he did not want a patient in pain.
Having these procedures was a pain but Dr. Reit is a great dentist. Excellent professional work.
I have moved downtown but still go to this dentist.
I recommend to anyone in the UES!

i’ll preface this with the fact that i have had the same dentist for 25 years. who i LOVE.
i moved to NYC and was forced to find a new dentist, someone gave me his name. overall, i’ll just say that i went one time and am now looking for a new dentist:
PROS: short wait time. great open schedule, easy to get in, late hours. His hygienists and receptionists are really nice. He is very friendly.
CONS: he found a million problems with my teeth (i have had no issues in the past, and just came for a cleaning), including cavities that couldn’t be seen on the films he got, in places that weren’t bothering me. a little odd, since i haven’t had a history of cavities and on the whole have pretty good teeth. He charged a LOT for extra services like special numbing that insurance doesn’t cover, other things that insurance doesn’t cover. i spent way more than i’ve spent in total my whole life.
what REALLY got me, is that they charged me as i walked out the door. meaning, they didn’t bill my insurance first to see what they would cover. No receipt for my charges (I had to request one which seemed to cause quite a fuss and they eventually mailed it). the finances of it seem a little on the sketch side.
On the whole, overcharging for things i don’t necessarily need and my insurance doesn’t cover (which has never been an issue before, thankfully, and is pretty reasonable).

As the daughter of a retired dentist, I always look for the best in any dentists I have visited since moving far away from home. I had one bad experience years ago with a dentist in Florida, but apart from that I had the most amazing dental technician and easy check up experiences in Miami for many years who I recommended to all my friends and co-​workers.
Sadly, I cannot say the same for my experience at Dr. Reit. I went in for a routine cleaning and the staff there are very friendly. It’s also a large and convenient location. However, the cleaning was torture. I explained in advance that I have very sensitive teeth, which need to be numbed beforehand. This went unheeded and not only was I in extreme pain, but Dr. Reit also complained (on and on and on) about the sensitivity issues I have the entire way through. Not pleasant and I was left shocked for days.
I have since found a wonderful dentist in the UES who made sure I was in complete comfort throughout and I am very happy!

I strongly recommend Dr Reit. Everything is super good! I got a crown, something I was really afraid to do, but, he and his team did a PERFECT job. Thanks :)

Dr. Reit is such a money hungry man. I walked in there with my insurance that he advertises he gladly accepts and before he even knows who I am he starts ranting about how GHI doesn’t pay him enough and after the first visit, I am responsible for paying the gap (?!). Really? His hygenist was nice enough, but he made me sit in a chair for 2.5 hours as he ran between my mouth and another person’s mouth. I needed a simple cleaning. Awful. Just awful. If he doesn’t treat people with GHI well or doesn’t like them, then he shouldn’t advertise that he accepts GHI. Never. Again. He is a shame to the upper east side.

i didn’t know i had been going to a BAD neglectful dentist until I left him and started going to Dr. Reitt. I now feel as if i am in the hands of a true, sincere professional I trust. Dr. Reitt really cares about his patients and it shows. He had to perform 2 root canals on me and for one, that he discovered bc my old dentist had screwed up, he squeezed me into his already packed day so that I could make a vacation flight that night and not leave for the vacation and risk pain.
he calls after procedures to check in and make sure you are ok and will do whatever he can as soon as he can to address a problem.
He and his assistant, Doris, are SO wonderful that i often feel I am with caring relatives.

I visited Dr. Reit and his staff over a dozen times in the past year for extensive work for my teeth. I’ve been to three other dentists before in my life and he’s the only one I really trust. He says I remind him of his staff in LA because they were all Filipino. I took comfort that he lived on the West coast. He has great rapport with his remarkable staff and they’ll joke back and forth. If you happen to have a procedure where there’s some risk, you might even hear a Dirty Harry impression (Are you feeling lucky?). It’s a dental visit with a show!
Dr. Reit’s office sits above a Health Food store and is next to an accupressure office. He keeps a good mix of magazines like People. I like that the dental chairs face windows to 3^rd Ave which allows lots of natural light in and you can see people visit a newly renovated McDonald’s and soon, a Chipotle across the street. If you need a prescription filled, Duane Reade is just down the block.
I picked Dr. Reit because he’s close to my apartment and takes Saturday appointments. He can be very booked on Saturday for people who don’t want to take time off work, so he might be rotating between patients and you can wait for a while between steps of the procedure. I don’t mind the wait and appreciate that he spends his Saturday working.
I’ve also been in the chair when other patients have yelled at him because of the wait or some other reason, or been generally unpleasant. I can’t imagine being a dentist in New York, where many people are angry and have no manners. My purpose here is to recommend Dr. Reit to reasonable patients so that he doesn’t have to deal with the crazy ones.

He was unprofessional.
The pretreatment plan he provided was not accurate which I was able to understand after I went to another dentist to seek second opinion. I ended up having one unnecessary filling and probably way too often cleanings.
No bedside manners as some of the others mentioned. His fixation on paperwork, money was out of proportion and at one point he asked for 1 cents because I wrote the check without one cent or something in those lines.
The equipment was from last century and he kept mentioning how he will have some tax benefit by getting new equipment.
I would NOT recommend him.

I was forced to change dentists when I got a new job and my new insurance wouldn’t cover the place I’ve gone for the last five years. I found Dr. Reit simply by looking on my insurance company’s website for dentists in the area and figured I’d take a chance.
In short, I’ll say that Dr. Reit seemed adequate, if not spectacular. The office wasn’t as modern or high-​tech as that of my previous dentist, but he did come to many of the same conclusions about my teeth that my previous provider had shared with me. So he seems competent enough.
He does talk a bit too much and kind of annoyed me, but I can handle that for one visit every six months. I didn’t have to wait a long time, had no problems with the insurance company covering his services, and he didn’t try to upsell me, like what apparently happened to Matt R.
I’ll be back again in six months.

I have been using Dr. Reit for the last 3 years. As a «professional patient» I must say he is one of the best Dentist I have ever worked with.
The facilities are clean, the staff is extremely friendly, and the service is right up my alley. Dr. Reit is strait and to the point. If there’s anything wrong with your mouth he will know even before an X-​Ray and take care of the problem immediately.
If you want a fast and effective Dentist this is the DDS for you.

Short version:
1. I was deliberately charged for a panoramic x-​ray that my insurance covered (because the insurance reimbursement to him was «not enough»)
2. I was tricked into getting an optional treatment because he said it was «required.»
3. He told my insurance company that I did not fulfill my financial obligations to him.
4. He filled two teeth that likely did not have cavities (although I have no proof).
5. He said I had two other cavities which needed filling, but my new dentist said that they are not cavities.
Long version:
I found Glenn Reit through my insurance website and went for a regular exam and cleaning. Things seemed okay at first, but the first clue that something was up dealt with x-​rays. Previously, my insurance plans had always covered x-​rays in full, but Dr. Reit said that I needed a panoramic x-​ray which was NOT covered by my insurance. He said this x-​ray was required by NYS law and that it would cost me $ 45. I thought this was peculiar because I had never paid for x-​rays before, but I did not have any evidence for arguing this point at the time.
After a quick exam, he said I had four cavities, one in each wisdom tooth. Wow! This was surprising because, although I’ve had plenty of cavities as a child, I don’t remember the last time I had one.
I chose to get two of the cavities filled that day, and would make another appointment to get the other two filled. He gave the choice of white or silver fillings, silver being covered by insurance and white not covered. I chose silver, but there was a catch. The silver filling IS fully covered by insurance, but the REQUIRED glass ionomer cement was not. This costs $ 79 per tooth. I stress the word «required» because that is how I was sold on it. He said that this is a necessary part of these fillings because it creates a strong bond and lets out fluoride to protect the tooth. Now, he did have me sign a form indicating that I agreed to this part and when I asked him again what this material was, he was very curt. He stated the long verbose name of the material rapidly and kept on saying how it was necessary. I signed reluctantly, again trusting this person with a professional degree to not steer me wrong.
So, he filled two teeth, drilling fairly deep and showing me how deep the «cavities» went. After this was over, I paid my bill ($ 203 total, $ 79 per tooth and $ 45 for the x-​ray) and left. He gave me a credit card receipt but not an itemized bill of the work done.
After I got home, I was unsettled by the experience, so the next day I called my insurance company. They clearly stated to me that a panoramic x-​ray is FULLY COVERED every 3 years under my plan. I didn’t remember the name of the ionomer cement at the time, so they couldn’t give me information on that. But, they said that silver fillings are FULLY COVERED by my plan.
I called his office, but he wasn’t there so I voiced my concern to the secretary and she left a message. About an hour later, I received a call from Glenn Reit. He said that the extra treatment I got was the OPTIONAL ionomer resin that I signed for and that my insurance didn’t cover. I told him how he stated that this was a required part of the silver filling. His rebuttal was that this is a required part of HIS practice because that is «his standard of care» and he only treats patients in the best manner possible. This story was different than the way he had sold me on it the day before. This is a breach of informed consent and utter dishonesty.
Now, the panoramic x-​ray. I told him what the insurance company said. His rebuttal dealt with the fact that I had an HMO plan, which doesn’t reimburse him well. He said «well, they say that it’s covered but I don’t think it is.» So, he is committing insurance FRAUD by charging his patients for a service that is covered under insurance because that plan does not reimburse him well.
In the end, I received my money back, except for a $ 25 x-​ray copy fee, which was fine. A few weeks later, I called my insurance company to change my primary dentist to a new one. To my surprise, it had already been changed. After that, I got a letter from my insurer stating that it had been changed «due to purported failure to fulfill your financial obligations to the office.» What!!!
Now, I took my x-​rays to my new dentist. He said he’d be happy to fill the remaining two cavities for me, and that they are fully covered under my plan. So I gave him the x-​rays, which he looked at, but didn’t see any cavities. He said there are some cavities that can’t be seen on x-​ray, so he looked at my teeth. And he looked and looked, and as you can guess, NO CAVITIES. He looked again and again and told me honestly that he does not see cavities, but normal staining of the teeth. Now, I can never know if the original cavities that Glenn Reit filled were actually cavities, but I seriously doubt that I had cavities in those two teeth and he mistakenly thought the other stained teeth had cavities.

I have been moving quite a bit so I have seen many different dentists in different area. He is probably the worse DDS I have even seen. Especially considering I am working in medical field. And I do know how things work in the field. I went to his office without doing a bit research on line, Big mistake!
There was no one in his office at the time I was there. I wonder why?
I went there to get my teeth cleaned. He did not do anything except using pressure water to rinse my teeth. It took 15 min. Then the new assistant polished my teeth, which was very bad, because she did not know what she is doing. The whole procedure is about 30 min, including X ray.
Glen Reit is very sarcastic… When I ask about medical question, he did not really give you any advice. No wonder no one goes there.
I won’t go back there anymore, neither should anyone!

Dr. Reit is an experienced, competent professional. He has done two crowns for me in the last year. …They were done on time and for a lot less money than my wifes dentist (she was amazed)… Most important, THEY FIT PERFECTLY! …Dr Reit always does follow up calls to check that things are OK, just in case… I never heard of that before… He is a truly caring gentleman and a superb dentist. …His staff is congenial, polite and professional…
The bright office was just renovated at great cost and looks lovely… All the equipment is brand new…
Whoever is besmirching him here has clearly got other unrelated and unresolved emotional issues… They should STOP IT… It is TOTALLY UNWARRANTED!..
I trust Dr Reit… …I joke with hm, sometimes…“You are the REIT dentist.”, I say… he laughs (like he’s never heard that before) …He’s a great dentist and a great guy.
