Extra Space Storage

Miesha is amazing! She is nice and knowledgeable. She helped ease my tension and worries about storing my stuff. Extra Space Storage in Marina del Rey is very clean and well lit.

Be very very careful of this place. They get you signed up for a low price but in a month or so they raise your rent. I first started at about $ 130 a month but some how now it’s $ 189. And if you are late on your payment then you get slapped with late charges. And when you want to end the contract you have to time it right or you have to continue paying the rest of the month. It’s the biggest racket.

I don’t normally write these, but I found a great storage place with Extra Space Storage. They have the longest hours of gate operation. Most the other companies are so limited as to when you can get into your space. David was great to work with, and since I will be going after normal office hours, I am actually going to miss not talking to him. The building in Marina Del Rey was an old Bekins Storage. Yet, the interiors are all newly done, including the office being brand new. My space looked as though it must have just been completely painted. Not one scratch was visible at all, just pure white. Flat dollies seem to be in abundance, and no problem with the elevators. Great place!

So great! I use the unit for temporary storage between school years, and this is my third year renting here. It’s not the closest storage facility to my school, but a little extra drive is absolutely worth it for the pricing and fantastic customer service I’ve received here! Thank you, Extra Space, for making my life easier!

I’ve been at this place about two years, and have had great service here. When I’ve needed a little something extra, the staff here have tried their best to accommodate me. I also notice they take security seriously… if there’s someone a bit sketchy trying to hang out after hours — these guys are on it and the problem is squashed.
And the location can’t be beat!

This place is great! the hours are really convenient and Terri at the front desk was so lovely and helpful I felt like I had a friend just after a few conversations. I used it as a temporary storage spot in between moving into a new place and the pricing was much more competitive than a UHaul box or POD.

Conveniently located, competitive pricing and they have solid hours unlike the last storage place I used. If you’re on the westside in the Venice, Mar Vista, Marina Del Rey area this is the perfect spot. Right by the 90 freeway.

So far, so good! I see a few posts here regarding rate hikes after a «not-​enough-​time-​has-​passed-​for-​me-​as-​a-​customer» time frame. I’ll report back if that’s the case for me, too. (I hope not.)
At the time of this writing, it’s noteworthy that ExtraSpace’s Venice/​CA location — a big one at 81,000 sq/​ft — had a severe fire that required more than 300 firefighters and seriously damaged ¹⁄₃ of the facility. The LA Fire Department reported to news media how the structure’s construction was a huge factor — no sprinklers and ventilation fueled flames.
Not the case here. The facility has sprinklers throughout. It’s a smaller facility, too.
That said… I REALLY like this facility on Glencoe so far!
It is VERY convenient — near the Marina Costco — with ample parking. There’s a morning «rush» til about 9AM. Then it’s mellow. Activity starts up again at EOB — around 5-​ish.
Security cameras everywhere. Upon lease signing, you devise your own passcode for entry and exit to the grounds (and the building itself, too).
The ladies in the mgmt office were cheery and helpful. I applied online and within 90 minutes received a phone call from mgmt at MY facility (not a central office). upon taking over the unit, I had the lease THOROUGHLY explained to me me. You must have insurance. Check if you’re covered by your homeowner’s or renters (residence) insurance. Bring a copy of the policy statement to waive an otherwise $ 10/​month insurance premium.
Processing my application, 1^st month’s rent and tax added another $ 40 onto my first bill. I signed-​up to be reminded of monthly rent due via email.
Unlike many facilities, I was not given a promotional «First Month Rent» discount. I did not ask — as finding this smaller size had limited availability in the area. I got the last one here! My needs are few and my small unit’s rate is competitive. While the facility is NOT climate-​controlled, the location near the marina has the place cool in temperature anyhow. My unit is perfect for me and my limited needs (i.e., I’m living in a small apartment with no «auxiliary» storage). The place is reasonably neat/​clean; albeit a little «tired.» The unit door is snug — I have to push it against the jamb with my foot to align the paddle lock hole. I appreciated this! Unlike competitor A-​1 Self-​Storage, ExtraSpace does not have «proprietary paddle locks’ (you buy A-1’s locks). Your own paddle lock will work fine.
Form moving, 3 – 4 large pushcarts are yours to use and wait just inside the door to your unit’s building. Wheel out to your car and load! At previous storage facilities, I had to get the cart from the management office (and they only had a couple). Carts always seem to be available here! The carts are HEAVY DUTY (300 lbs or more weight?) and maintained just fine.
BONUS: the freight elevator! It’s great to have a big, wide opening to roll in 1 – 4 of their carts in ONE trip! Load your cart (s), shut the gates, push the button to your floor. You are not allowed to ride the freight elevator, so just trot a few steps to the Human Being elevator with peace of mind your freight is waiting for you around the corner from you.
As i mentioned if my rate goes up after an unreasonably short period of time as a customer, I’ll update. My previous experience (A-​1 Self Storage) was great and they raised the rate $ 7 in 16 months time.
Storage facility choices are «iffy.» Consider your lifestyle — it will dictate a lot. For me, I needed something close by and small. I needed to dash in and out as my space needs evolve.
ExtraSpace on Glencoe is ideal for me at this stage of life needs. \

Very good people and service. Just two issues for me:
1. This facility is a bit outdated so a lot of the entry doors are old fashioned narrow doors. In my case I had to rent a larger space than i really wanted to accomodate a 42″ firepit I needed to store for a month or two. I was told that they are converting all the unites to wider garage type pull down doors.
2. Their «no refund» policy is very problematic to me and not customer friendly at all. For me it’s when you go past your payment date (and have paid you bill on time) but then want to move out in that month… there are no refunds for the days you’ve paid for but won’t be using the facility and I just don’t think this is right. To qualify for a refund, you need to give them notice of when you’ll be moving out before your payment month starts, then you pay for the whole month, then you get a rebate for the days you didn’t use the facility… but only if you have notified them of this move out date in the previous month. This really upsets and and last time I rented here a few years ago, i lost about a half months rent because of this loophole. Beware!

This place sucks — the management is very rude and do not listen to complaints.
They sucker you in with low rates for about 3-months…then they double the rates on you — holding your stuff hostage. They will not negotiate lower rent at all… you either pay their higher rent or lose your stuff! Bad business and bad customer service — do not put your stuff in this place!

I have stored my and others’ possessions with Public Storage locally three times before, but this time was out of luck– PS did not have a large enough unit immediately available. extra Space Storage did at their GLENCOE facility in MDR and allowed me to come in and rent two v. large units– at a good deal. One of the units on a full «one month off» prom., The other unit at 50% off for the first month. When you think about it that’s a lot of space on faith!
I was impressed they got the deal done on so little notice and so smoothly, and for a reasonably competitive price too. (For local storage anyway. You only want to do this kind of deal if you live in the area and need almost daily access to the good, otherwise go over the hill for cheaper storage in the valleys.)
On-​site staff David and KJ were pros. I appreciated their speed, their sense of humor, and the fact that they defended the units already reserved (from me, who wanted to poach one). This gave me confidence in reserving from them in the future.
The facility is clean and has a number of dollies available to public. Dollies sized to hallways and are easily manipulated; easy to get around corners, etc. Note that climate controlled units focus on temp not humidity (keeping temp between 74 – 80 degrees). They offer: lighting in some units, some units on ground floor, gate access after the admin offices close (until 10 pm for the majority of its clients), & elevators to the upper floors.
One of my units has a light in it, the other does not and I brought my own shelving with me. If you are a novice to storage rental, then I recommend you ascertain whether or not the unit has lighting and whether or not the facility has shelving available to build out in your unit (if this is something you need and/​or for which you are willing to pay).
Here’s to a great start with this new (to me) vendor.

Dave the military style manager was rude to me because I was sitting in my couch in my storage locker reading my email. I don’t deserve to be treated like a piece of crap whole I’m paying $ 350 a month to store my stuff. Goodbye extra storage. Try to treat people the way you want to be treated.

I have been here for two years plus my rate has been raised 3 + times I finally called last month to talk to the staff about it. I spoke with Courtney who was helpful at first who even said you have been a loyal customer and mind you I have never complained and never have asked for anything. She then called me back a day later and let me know that they would lower my rate for the month of September. She asked me to please come in in September also to get me into possibly a smaller space. I went to pay my bill and my rate was still at the raised rate. So I called and they all denied they ever even said this as well as Derek the so called manager basically said I can not help you and my employee Courtney never said this. I do not have time for stories and I have NEVER wriiten a BAD review. This is a what call LACK of INTEGRITY, and a flat out SCAM of a business. I am completely shocked at this lack of responsibility for this communication Courtney said to me on the phone today that she never had with me. I am going to pay my bill BUT I WILL NEVER do BUSINESS with a MISREPRESENTED BUSINESS. I have even recommended this space as well. SHOCKING to me that Derek was short with me and not polite –as a Manager (DISTRICT) as so he stated, FYI Derek — THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.

Facility is ok, but watch out for the old «bait & switch.» Our $ 302/​month tab was raised by $ 40.59 after just four months. Why? Because they can. I have some other storage spaces in CA and AZ and none of those landlords have done this. Anyway, if you need to store stuff beyond a month or two, be sure to ask these people what their intentions are. They’re tough on you if you stay beyond the competitive initial price.

I am torn when it comes to reviewing this place. It is true that they pull they bait and switch. I had my unit for a couple months now and I recently got a postage that my rate was going up for $ 16 next July. I think the owners are some of the nicest people you can meet, they were extremely friendly and helpful. But the facility is not the nicest. The door frames inside the hallways are all bent and damaged because they are regular door frames. This makes no sense since this is a storage facility every other place I have had the chance of renting from has big spacious hallways that make transporting of your items easy. Also the rooms are not really nice and well formed. I have seen some cheaper nicer places, perhaps this is because of location. Also they are not temperature regulated so there’s that. If you don’t mind paying more and getting some increases, this is your place.

I have had many storage units in multiple different facilities over the years & this is by far my favorite place to store. The staff is always kind, patient & very helpful. I like the area of the facility and have always felt confident that my things are safe. As my storage needs have evolved the staff has happily transferred me into new, more appropriate units. I highly recommend this company & especially this location to anyone in need of a storage unit.

I had a good experience with this location. The manager went out of his way to assist me with my sign up for my unit. I was late and the place was closed, he still opened the door to help me. I couldn’t be more grateful !

I find this a terrible Business. My rate went up 25 per cent
less then 3 years. I called to get an explanation
about raising and David, the local supervisor said
is because their business making a lot of money
and if I’m not happy I should leave because my spot worthy it much
more.
I called another storage 1.0 mile away, great place, clean, and it is as
security as them for almost $ 100 less per month.
Don’t fool your self. Please do your search first.

I had the exact same experience as the other poster. After signing-​up in September for a small closet sized space ($ 55/​month for about 9 sq. ft.), they raised my rate 20% in January to $ 66/​month. Total bait-​and-​switch on pricing. Granted it’s month-​to-​month so they are within their rights, but from a customer service standpoint, it drove me to write this poor review and I will also cancel my rental and make sure to leave a mess for them to clean up.
Storage is a rip-​off in general. Maybe the lesson here is to sell/​junk stuff that I never really use since it costs $ 600 – 700 a year just for a small closet.
