History

Established in 2007.

Calming Influence opened its doors October 1, 2007 and has found a wonderful home in midtown. Owner Gene Elliott has over 20 years of experience as a massage therapist. For ten years he managed a local massage establishment. «For years I’ve been searching for a location for a bodywork salon,» he said. «Being a loyal midtowner, I’ve watched the wonderful changes that have occurred around Overton Square and Cooper Young. I’m delighted to have found the perfect spot right in the heart of the best part of the best city in the country.» Calming Influence has many massage therapists offering a wide range of services that are sure to meet your relaxation needs.

I have had several massages here. Gene does an excellent job. I have several health issues that causes muscle strain and pain. Gene asked the appropriate questions and delivered an excellent deep tissue massage. I highly recommend.

My friend purchased me and my mom 60 min massages with foot bath and aromatherapy for my wedding present. We went yesterday for the first time and it was amazing! Gene did a fantastic job he made sure to really work out all the knots without being painful. I feel so refreshed and my back has never felt this good. I also loved the little house it was in. It was decorated beautifully and was so relaxing with light music in the back ground. I love that it is so close to all the restaurants and shops. We absolutely loved it and will definitely be returning!

I recently had my first massage from here, and I’m a fan.
It’s located in a charming midtown house converted into a spa. It’s in a great midtown location that features on street parking that’s plentiful and safe.
The prices are great. The employees are all very nice.
The massage itself was one of the best I’ve had in the Memphis area. Patty was the massage therapist, and she was fantastic. She definitely has healing hands.
Although I had a basic 60-​minute massage, I plan to try an aromatherapy massage in the future.
The massage room itself was very relaxing with soft lighting, soothing décor and was spacious without being too roomy. I’ve been in some tiny rooms at other places. The openness of this room was calming.
As others noted, it’s very clean, which is incredibly important. It’s also very quiet.
As the name says, It’s a «Calming Influence.»

My friend and I did the ‘relax and breathe’ package that includes a one hour eucalyptus massage, herbal blend aromatherapy steam, and a detailed sinus pressure massage. The aromatherapy steam was private and so relaxing; I basically had my own little steam tent while laying on a massage table (in a private room). Then after a shower in a lovely, clean bathroom, I had one of the best massages of my life (and I’ve had many). I asked for a lot of pressure and she delivered! All in all we had about 2+ hrs of relaxation for $ 100 — a bargain. I can’t wait to go back. The house/​building is so cute and comfortable.

This place is fantastic and exceptionally clean. The staff is friendly and the service is really great. I’ve gotten two massages here and they really work what needs fixing instead of concentrating on how much time you’ve paid for.
I’m interested to see what else they will offer now that they have a chiropractor on staff, but their spa packages are really something. And it’s local. And it’s in midtown. Seriously. Check them out.

I am not a frequent massage customer, but every now and then, I get to splurge on a little relaxation. This is my go-​to place for that. I’m not sure how that started, but over the past few years, I’ve had several (however infrequent) opportunities to come here. First of all, I love that it is a house. It really feels like a part of the neighborhood, and there is just something soothing about a homey environment. Everything about my experiences at Calming Influence has been relaxing. The staff is very professional and friendly. The entire experience is great — from the time you make the appointment until you walk out the door. They have a lot of great services in addition to massage and the prices are great too! Whenever I have the chance to fit some much needed relaxation into my budget and schedule, I will continue to always come here!
