History

Established in 2006.

In the summer of 2011, at their weekly poker game, Joel Banes and Alan Katzen made two very important decisions; to start a partnership and to buy a small BBQ restaurant in East Memphis on Kirby Pkwy. One & Only BBQ. You see, Joel and Alan had a similar vision of a great little BBQ restaurant, that not only served some of the best tasting Memphis style BBQ, but also a place that treated people special! The business grew so fast, they quickly outgrew that little BBQ restaurant on Kirby Pkwy. and they opened another One & Only BBQ on Perkins Ext. We smoke our meats daily, with 100% hickory wood, at each of our locations. We season and smoke, whole bone-​in pork shoulders for 15 hours. Our fresh poultry, chicken and turkey, are marinated, smoked and lightly seasoned, before serving to our guests. We serve Chicago-​made rope polish Kielbasa and when you try it we believe you will understand why. Our pork baby back ribs are marinated for 24 hours, before they are hickory smoked and grilled.

Business Owner

Alan Katzen was born in Memphis in 1953, and has been in the restaurant business for over 40 years. Alan has operated restaurants all over the United States. In 1998, Alan returned home for good and married his wife, Millie. With two children, Jillian & Rachel and Millie by his side, Alan and his business partner, Joel Banes purchased One & Only BBQ. We know you have many choices. We love and believe in what we do. Our goal is to provide Memphian’s with Memphis style BBQ that they can be proud of, a place you can bring your whole family and feel appreciated, an extension of your home. The best way we know to say how we feel is;
