Have you ever been happily eating hamburger then tasted filet mignon and realized you can never go back to happily eating hamburger? Wink Optics is the equivalent.
Even though Consumer Reports rates Costco as one of the best values for RX eyeglass purchases and even though Costco carries some designer-​ish eyeglass brands I’ve always yearned to purchase glasses not branded inside with «Costco Optical». I’m not a snob; I just always wanted a pair of truly high-​quality RX eyeglasses. They have a lux finish and weight to them that just doesn’t exist in the stock at Costco.
Wink Optics is a bit deceiving because they don’t appear to have a huge selection of the kind of eyeglasses I was craving. But too large of an eyeglass selection can be too many to choose from and even with their more limited selection I found myself having difficulty whittling down enough to make a purchase.
A smart optician is what makes all the difference and owner, Qunyh, is that. When I questioned how I was ever going to make a decision she promised to whittle it down to her recommendations which truly did make it an easier task. If left solely to my own devices I’d still be there, waffling.
All told, for straight up RX eyeglasses (non-​progressives) my new Alain Mikli RX eyeglasses ran a bit over $ 800 (ouch) which is my one and only complaint about Wink Optics. That said, I couldn’t have purchased such a beautiful pair of glasses elsewhere for any less or with better service. As I fondle the high quality, heavy, soft finish of these new frames I know only one thing: Hamburger is sometimes okay but I’ll never grow tired of filet mignon.

Quynh is an expert and knows exactly what suits your face and has unique style, she has fitted me for several pairs of glasses & I love all of them! Frank Is also fantastic and knows his frames! I live in SF, but often visit Mill Valley. Dropped in to Wink, not expecting to find that perfect pair of eyeglasses. I was so wrong. I appreciated the fact that when I was about to leave without finding a pair, that I was not met any resistance. No high pressure salesmanship here. About to leave, I noticed a pair of Stark eyewear and my mind was made. While waiting for my invoice, one sales consultant cleaned my sunglasses that I had been wearing throughout the day. Nice touch… and not forgotten. I received my glasses by mail, no charge, and I love them. Included was a bottle of cleaning solution and some candies.
I will be back, for sure.

My wife and I wandered in to Wink Optics during a day trip to Mill Valley. I needed a pair of nice eyeglasses, and was having trouble finding the types of frames I want.
From beginning to end, the staff at Wink Optics was great. I purchased a pair of frames and lenses from them which I love and receive compliments on all the time. I even had to get one of the lenses replaced, thanks to an inept optometrist in San Mateo, and they were done quickly. In fact, I ordered the first time the week before Thanksgiving, and they rushed my order so I would have time in time for the long weekend.
The things that make Wink stand out are the subtle but welcome touches, for example, every time I went in (about 4 times total), one of the employees would see my sunglasses on top of my head and say, «Would you like me to clean your Maui JIms for you?» And they would take them, clean them, and give them back – every time I visited. These are the types of going-​the-​extra-​mile gestures that aren’t invasive and don’t feel contrived.
I highly recommend Wink Optical and plan to always buy my glasses from them!

This place is wonderful. The staff is not only extremely friendly but also very helpful. Everyone at this tiny place is very efficient and do what they do extremely well. They really take the time to get to know you on top of doing an outstanding eye examination. The eye exam was actually the most thorough eye exam I’ve ever had from an optometrist. Dr. Lin was very fast (but thorough), she knows what she’s doing.
They have an excellent variety of frames, from cool and modern, to funky and artsy. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

My experience with Wink right now has been two visits. The first time I visited was just to walk in and shop for sunglasses and they have a good classy selection of frames. Later, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Lin to update my prescription. I’ve been wearing glasses all my life so I have been through most kinds of eye exams, yet Dr. Lin’s methods were new to me and seemingly more thorough than I have had before. She took time to get to know me and how I use my eyes at work and play.
I will update this review when I get my glasses in a couple of weeks, but definitely a 5 star establishment as far as I can tell.

Came into Wink because they were a preferred provider with my insurance. They are in downtown Mill Valley, and the truth is that I was a bit reluctant to come see them because of that. (I grew up in Mill Valley and the whole downtown scene can be a little pretentious…) Then I looked on Unilocal and saw that they have 5 stars, which is rare on Unilocal!
Dr. Lin was fabulous! She took the time to talk to me, didn’t rush me through like I was a number, and really made me feel comfortable (this was my first time getting an eye exam so that was really helpful). The other folks working in the office were great too, and went out of their way to accommodate my sort of tight schedule. Then, they were extra patient and helpful as I picked out frames. (And I took a long time).
After, Dr. Lin sent me an email (same day) to thank me for coming in and letting me know that she’s my doctor now. Which was sweet and I totally feel that way!
All in all — Wink is great and Dr. Lin is wonderful. I would TOTALLY recommend this place. Frames are pricey but hey, it’s your face.

L o n g v e r s i o n: I went to Wink Optometry for the first time shortly after moving to Mill Valley. It was the week before Christmas and I had broken the frame of my glasses on my way to work. In the late afternoon, I rushed home and googled optometrists in Mill Valley. Wink Optometry was the one that stood out on Unilocal.When I got to the store, they were about to close. Without hesitation, they took off their coats and fixed my glasses. What a relief!
A week later, I scheduled an appointment and got a very comprehensive vision examination by Dr. Lin. She was very patient and answered all my questions. Her work was just so much better than that of my last eye doctor (who rushed me through the examination). A few days later I received a handwritten card by Dr. Lin, thanking me for being part of her practice. How nice!

I LOVE Wink! My first visit was fantastic. I met Quiyn (sorry if I spelled her name wrong!) and Dr. Lin. Both ladies are personable and professional which i thought was unique in the field. Dr. Lin made me really comfortable by explaining what she was doing before she proceeded with each part of the exam. She actually took the time to chat with me about my activities to make sure I was getting the correct pair of contact lenses. Quiyn was great too! She encouraged me to pick out frames and then pulled a bunch of frames for me to try on too. I found this to be really helpful because I can never tell what looks good on my face haha!
The office is actually very inviting. None of that «wow I’m pretty sure this wall paper hasn’t been changed since 1978» stuff that you usually find at eye doctors.
Overall, excellent experience! Super quick turnaround on my glasses and contacts too.

I ordered a set of sunglasses from Wink with progressive lenses. They arrived and looked great, but I had trouble focusing on distances. I discussed the problem with the very nice manager. She agreed that I did have a problem and offered to order another pair of glasses with a different frame which would be better suited to my prescription. I am extremely pleased with the service at Wink and will return in the future.

I went in here for an eye exam and contact lens fitting, and had an excellent experience. Both the doctor and the staff person were friendly, helpful, and extremely accomodating with sorting out my insurance. The doctor responded with clarity and knowledge to all of my questions, and the staff person was very excited to help me pick out frames.
The optometry portion of this business is new, so they are still working out their systems with handling insurance. My one suggestion to customers is to have the staff thouroughly research your insurance plan beforehand, so that you know exactly what you’ll be paying (ex, eye exam is separate service from contact lens fitting). Also, It would have been nice if this was specified beforehand.
Overall, a great experience

My BF and I found these guys while we were sauntering around OutsideLands and they were just what he was looking for! Even with the limited selection available at their stand, they helped him find the perfect Maui Jim’s that fit his handsome face. They were super patient, accommodating and best of all… they certainly knew what they were doing.
Seek them out at events around the bay… whether you forgot your sunglasses at home or just want a new pair, they will definitely help you out and won’t lie to you if the pair you have on REALLY do not go well with your face. Honesty’s the best policy. :)
