Specialties

A fun outdoor activity to explore beautiful Lake Tahoe!

SoaringNV is all about soaring – the sport of flying aircraft with no engines. Our gliders, sometimes called sailplanes, are towed aloft by a power plane, and released high above the terrain where the fun begins. Using only the power of the atmosphere, a glider can climb in rising air and coast in still air. (Fun fact: the longest glider flight out of the Minden-Tahoe Airport was 2259 Kilometers – a 13.5 hour flight!)

Tourists seeking a silent scenic ride, bucket-listers looking for a thrill and power pilots used to flying with a fuel-burning engine are all discovering the fun of flying in a glider.

Safe and silent, Minden is an international destination for soaring pilots. With Lake Tahoe to the west and the Pinenut Mountains to the east, the Carson Valley provides the perfect geography for year-round soaring conditions.

Come visit us at the Minden-Tahoe Airport. We do recommend reservations.

Meet the Business Owner

Laurie H.

Business Owner

Laurie took scenic tourist rides as a young adult whenever she saw them advertised. Upstate New York. Hawaii. When she found herself living in Carson Valley, she decided to finally learn to fly a glider. Learning to fly snowballed into an entire business. A business aiming to bring the joy of motor-less flight to everyone from an experienced pilot wanting to extend aviation skills, to the bucket-lister looking to collect one more amazing experience.

When Laurie isn’t at the airport, she likes to ride her horse, explore Nevada wilderness on her ATV, or pick away at the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle.
