Tool Time Handyman Services

I needed a contractor to fix/​replace water damaged chimmney wood trim and corner pieces on our roof. I had called around and many said they couldn’t do it for months. I got a call back from Tool time and they had just had a cancellation. David came out and replaced the wood and we are good to go now (Hopefully for the winter). :)

We hired Eric and his team (summer/​fall 2014) after seeing some of the beautiful bathrooms they had completed, both higher-​end, and more budget-​friendly designs. Eric has excellent project management skills, even providing detailed Ganntt charts that included when materials had to be ordered. I was very excited to hire Tool Time because Eric has a team in place to do the work, instead of having to always subcontract the work out. The guys, Kyle, Matthew, Ryan, Omar, etc. are very courteous, and given that we have a 3-​year old child — and was pregnant with another baby as they started construction — it was a good experience even though home construction can be quite disruptive. Everyone was so nice to our kids, and Eric is a family man with cute dogs (sometimes the dogs are in the car with him), so he totally gets how it is to have children.
Some of the work was subcontracted out to George, owner of A California Home Construction, and George’s tile work was amazing. Eric knows how to put a good team together for sure! Eric has a good ability to problem-​solve, as well. When one of the cabinets were not fitting into the space properly, he discussed some solutions for us to make it work, and his suggestions worked out well! I like that Eric’s company started out as a handyman business (if I understand this correctly). No job was seemingly too big or too small for them. We will hire Tool Time again in a heartbeat when we need some more work done on the house. We love these bathrooms so much. Update (September 2015): We had an opportunity to buy a house in Los Gatos, and so here we go again! We immediately called Eric without having to blink an eye or worry about getting quotes from other contractors (we totally trust their work), and they are currently working on a lot of various projects with our new house, like adding newer lighting, fixing closets, etc. I’ll update again after they complete these things, but some of the newer guys we’ve met working with Eric now (like Dave and another Eric) are so professional. Eric had a good eye for seeing the house and making suggestions on things we could do to get it ready. We can’t wait to move in. :)

I need to update my original review. Eric emailed me about 6 months ago as he recalled our original interaction. He offered me two hours’ services so he could prove his professionalism and the quality of his work. What had occurred during our first interaction was due to extenuating circumstances he was dealing with at the time. Well, yesterday I realized that I needed some speaker wires run through my attic and had been delinquent on getting it done until the n’th hour (family event tomorrow). Though he was already completely booked for the day, Eric made time considering my family event and came over with his son, Ryan. Ryan spent the better part of 4 hours working at my house and did a tough attic wire install. The work was done extremely well and their interaction and attitude were nothing short of exemplary. I really appreciated Eric reaching out to make amends and he has more than proven what a terrific outfit he is running. Many thanks, Eric. We will be recommending you to our friends and also requesting your help for future projects. A+++

Eric, Matthew and their crew did an awesome job remodeling our two bedroom closets — I thought they were fair, kind and most important did beautiful work! I can’t recommend them any higher!

Eric and Matthew re-​caulked two baths where mold had grown under the old caulking and tiny leaks had formed. The showers now look as good as new. His price was very competitive — in fact it was a little lower than two other handyman services I contacted. I am very pleased with his work.

Eric has been doing projects for our family for over three years. The quality of his work is excellent. He is easy to communicate with and is great at solving problems. He has done all kinds of jobs for us. Whether it is carpentry, plumbing or electrical, the work is always top notch. I will wait, if necessary, for Eric to be able to do any projects or repairs rather than call someone else. I would highly recommend him!

We were pleased with the services provided by this contractor and his associate. They replaced a patio roof cover; replaced, primed, and painted a wooden beam on the patio room that had dry-​rot; and also installed a new shelf in the kitchen. The bids were right-​on, and we now have the use of our patio room (with no more leakage!)! The owner, Eric, was always very prompt in responding to my calls; both the initial call, and subsequent calls to set up dates and times to do the jobs. I like that the owner explained things in a way that was understandable, and that he was very precise and detail oriented. He also hauled away the old materials, which was helpful. I thought his prices were competitive and realistic. Clean-​up was also provided; a nice touch. I tried contacting several other companies, mainly roofing companies, and not one of them would do the patio room roof (not a big enough job like a whole house roofing project, is my guess), but Eric, from Tool Time, was willing and pleased to do the job. We would hire Tool Time Handyman Services again, and recommend this company to others needing handyman services.

It’s not all about the «handyman», believe me. Eric was my contractor for a bathroom remodel, and I couldn’t be happier with the work and result. Eric worked with me to reach an estimate that would meet my budget. Though I had my vision, he and his primary contractor showed me several pictures of other bathroom remodels they had recently completed, in order to provide additional ideas. The work was meticulous, especially the tile, and the guys kept the work area very neat and organized every day. Eric even created a project plan and handled all of the work permit scheduling and inspections. I’m really happy that I have a new bathroom with my vision now a reality, but even happier that Eric and his team were the ones that made the vision happen. I may just have to think about remodeling my master and powder room because Eric and his guys just made it an all around great experience!

The Tool Time Handyman Service really stepped up to the plate on making things right and putting customer service first. They called me back and made sure I was satisfied with the job.

I cannot say enough nice things about Eric, his employees and sub-​contractors. We were on a time crunch moving into a new home, and it needed extensive interior construction. Eric lined up every sub and his staff and did the most amazing home «make-​over» in two weeks! I’ve done lots of remodeling over the years and have never had anyone not only stick to their schedule but do it in «superman» style. The work is excellent, and every time there was so much as a tiny issue with one of the subs, Eric was there making sure everything was perfect. The best part — we actually added a few things, and he still finished on schedule. Yes, Eric is expensive, but you get what you pay for, and he is worth every penny. This work was done last June, and we’ve had no problems or issues with it. I’ve also used Tooltime for small repairs. I love that they show up when promised and get the work finished, and they stand behind their work if a problem arises. I highly recommend them.

I called Tool Time on Monday, and they didn’t call back until Wednesday. I just figured they weren’t interested in the project, but then the man apologized and said they were just busy. So he schedules to stop by on Thursday «sometime after 2:30pm». The ambiguity of that time frame itself was annoying, so I wait, and wait, and wait and wait and wait and wait. And the guy never shows up. But I guess, technically, he’s not late, because «sometime after 2:30pm» could be anytime. It could be six months from now.
I value my time, and I need depdendable, reliable professionals, and in my experience, that description does not fit Tool Time. I never plan on calling them again, and would advise other people not to contact them.

Do not use these guys — they over charge. Their estimate came in 5 times higher than my other estimates. Estimates for painting the work they wanted to do was higher than estimates to paint the entire inside of my house. These guys should be put out of business. They take advantage of people that don’t know better. Rate is $ 95 an hour. You can higher a licensed contractor for about $ 30-​$ 35 an hour. It is best to have them bid on the job and not do an hourly rate.
