Based out of Napa (Calistoga, Saint Helena, Rutherford, Yountville, Napa City, and American Canyon), we service all of the Bay Area.

We believe purchase is superior to leasing, and our turn-​key systems includes life-​time monitoring. You own the system and receive all the benefits.

We mostly use panels from Suniva (www​.suniva​.com) and Enphase micro-​inverters (www​.enphase​.com), both leading U.S. companies. Of course, we will install any panels or inverters you prefer.

Start with a simple phone call or request an email estimate. We will NOT repeatedly contact you, nor sell your information to others.

Provide us with the quoted system size by another company (leaving out the price, to be fair), and we would be happy to provide our own quote for a comparable system.

If you like our estimate, you can have our system designer measure and assess your roof. It can take as little as 15 minutes, he can explain why our workmanship is superior, give our best price upfront, and answer any questions you may have. He doesn’t have to go into your house, not all the home owners need to be there, and it’s free with no obligations.

Established in 2011.

Green Stock Solar was established in 2011 by people who already had extensive experience as system designers and lead installers for larger solar companies, motivated in our belief that greater value can be provided to those considering the benefits of going solar by streamlining the decision process, cutting out the salesmen, and educating consumers to make an informed decision. We also believe that if our workmanship is visibly superior at the lowest price possible, then satisfied customers will naturally refer their friends and relatives who are also interested in going solar.

David Peterson, the Owner and Founder of Green Stock Solar, is a long time resident of Napa with his wife and two sons, aged 6 and 8. While working as the lead project manager for a larger solar company he decided that the most important factor was the workmanship of the design and installation, and not so much the promises made by a salesman. After founding Green Stock Solar, satisfied customers have been referring him to their friends and relatives all over the Bay Area.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Great response time, very attractive pricing and so far the post sales support has been excellent. David’s down to earth approach won me over. And it wasn’t just David. The office staff as well as the installation crew… all very helpful and professional.
The installation itself. super clean. Excellent workmanship. And our system (24 Solarworld monoblack panels & Enphase M250 microinverters) has been running great. I did have some issues getting the Enphase Envoy (system monitoring) device to work reliably. Kristina came back and resolved the issue. David also came by on a separate visit to make sure all was well.
The «No pressure» slogan on their website is true. I went through a lot of bidding. I debated between going with another vendor, David knew this but he simply let me take my own time to think it over. Shop around but make sure Green Stock is on your short list.

I had a 33-​panel solar system installed in September 2014. The process was as smooth as one can expect. As a matter of fact, it was much smoother than I expected. David’s team was professional. They did not rush to complete the job and spent the needed time to ensure every component was installed, tested, and verified. The system has been running flawlessly for the past 7 months. Last but not least, David’s pricing was very competitive. With good pricing, good products, and good installation & service, you can’t go wrong with Green Stock Solar.

This was one of the easiest 5-​stars reviews I’ve written.
I’ve had my system on my house now for 6 months and it has been working flawlessly. I was the first of my friends and neighbors to put a solar system on my house so I consider myself very fortunate to have come across David in my search. I could not be happier.
He wasn’t too salesy, he was always prompt, installation was prompt, he was very reasonably priced, his team was phenomenal, I just cannot say enough good things about he and his team. 5-​stars across the board.
The best part is, he has installed solar on at least three of my friends and neighbors, should be doing a fourth here soon and all three had the EXACT same experience I did.
Stop searching here, he is your guy.

We started thinking about solar when we spoke to a solarcity rep at home depot. After an appointment, we got quotes for the leasing and buying options. I didn’t like the idea of leasing. We didn’t have money to buy the system. Then we got estimates from two other installers we found from Unilocal.So, we decided to skip the solar upgrade.
I found greenstock solar through an ad from craigslist. I called David Peterson and scheduled an appointment. David gave me a quote for a 14 panel system with micro-​inverters. Although his price was lower than all the other quotes I got earlier, I still didn’t have the money to get this done.
A few months later (after tax returns) I called David back. Unfortunately his rates had gone up in the mean time. It was now a few hundred bucks extra for the same system. The price was still reasonable and we decided to proceed with the install.
David applied for the permits with the city of Fremont. He warned me that it might take upto 8 weeks to get the permit because the city of Fremont had a bad reputation for processing speed. Our permit was approved in three weeks and we were ready for install. The installation was scheduled for two days, but the guys were quick and got it done in a day. Unfortunately the inspector wanted to have a look at the roof underneath the panels and he asked them to remove the system. The inspector came back twice (the next day) and everything went smooth.
The system has been running good for about two months now. I’ll have to wait and see how it goes in the long run.
tldr; I strongly recommend greenstock solar.

Absolutely first class service & a first class product. Got several bids including one from Solar City. Dave’s system by far the most cost effective. System has been in for 4 days & we, as of today, have accumulated 23 KWH credit on our meter. Another benefit is that it makes us more cognizant of the power we waste during «down time.»
Forget the big guys. Call Dave.

I had Green Stock Solar install 12 panels on my roof one year ago and I could not be happier with everything about it. A friend of mine recommended them to me after I had called around to a few different companies that would not do the install the way I wanted it. Your search for a Solar contractor should end here… if you are lucky. Like Tom P from the previous post, I spent countless hours researching solar and got at least a dozen quotes. Compared with the solar city (slime ball) deals and also looked at doing this myself with Chinese made parts. I had almost signed up with a guy who was working out of his backyard, and was unbelievably expensive.
Then I luckily found David and my search was over. He’s the best contractor i have had the pleasure of working with — Solar and overall. His value/​price was unbeatable. He’s very dependable and REALLY knows his stuff. He got me the best in class equipment and his installation was very professionally done.
If you are considering getting solar and have not yet signed a contract, i highly recommend you talk to him. Also ask him for references and talk to others who have worked with Dave.
I had asked for a couple of references and everyone was so positive about Dave and team that i couldn’t imagine using anyone else.
Be careful there are a lot of shady people out there… good luck with your solar project.

I’m so glad that I found Green Stock Solar. From beginning to completion they preformed to the highest standards. David was the only contractor out of four interviewed that actually took the time to go up on the roof to inspect and measure the areas for the system. He then explained the layout and how the system would preform.
When the technicians arrived to install the system they went over the time frame and what to expect. The system was installed on time and functions as advertised. Being the winter months with the sun low in the sky it is preforming much better than I thought it would! The attention to detail as far as making sure the touch up painting, tile repair, mounting the electronic equipment, paperwork was perfect. My city inspection went off with out a problem.
I might add his quotation was considerably lower than his competitors. He has kept in touch to make sure everything is in order which I appreciate
I might mention that I’m a retired service manager so I do speak from experience when it comes to service. If your looking for a company that doe’s what it says and gives you a quality product (all American Made components) Then give them a call, You won’t be disappointed!

I’m a building contractor with over 35 years (ouch!) in the business. i have one golden rule for getting projects done: FIND SOMEONE YOU TRUST.
Dave put in a 17.4kw system for me. the job was in a remote location, under lousy site conditions, in the rain, with no help from me, and in a hurry. Were there problems? Yes. Did he solve every one? Yes. would i use him on the next project? In a heartbeat, without pause.
The price is more than fair, the work honest, clean, done right, on time. What more can i say?

I rarely post on Unilocal but this is one experience I must share with everyone.
I had been searching for solar for nearly 2 years before finally committing to Green Stock Solar. I spoke to more than 11 companies and received 7 estimates and nearly gave up on my search, determined to do it myself with the help of an electrician. That’s when I found Dave Peterson from Green Stock Solar.
With such a long and disappointing search I was skeptical of all solar companies but after speaking with Dave, his genuine and sincere approach won me over. His price was better than any of the others but more importantly his honesty and integrity shined throughout the job. From before the sale until long after the installation (more about that below).
He did what he said he was going to do. He did it on time. His crew was professional and considerate. No mess, no fuss, no excuses of why something went wrong or why they got delayed or why it was going to cost more than we agreed. They did the job cleanly and with no up-​charging of any kind. No disappointments.
Dave has called me three times AFTER the installation. Once to make sure I was happy with the job. Second to explain what I should expect from PG&E regarding the electrical meter swap and third to make sure PG&E completed it. This is great customer service.
I have done a major remodel to my home, using more than 14 contractors in the past 10 years and rarely do you find a contractor who is this good.
I would recommend Green Stock to anyone who is looking to install solar and I will even field questions here on Unilocal with anyone who wants to know more about my experience… I am ecstatic.

Green Stock Solar installed 2 commercial solar systems for us at Vasco Plaza in Livermore — totalling 34kw and 144 panels. Their pricing was competitive, the warranty they offered was longer than their competitors, and they took care of all the PG&E rebate paperwork for us. They were incredibly informative and helped us understand how the system worked, their workmanship was good, they got the job done in the scheduled timeframe, and they cleaned up after themselves. Dave still checks in on us periodically to see if we need anything related to the system. And the best part — we made it through the winter with zero roof leaks related to their work. I would highly recommend Green Stock Solar to anyone who is looking to invest in a commercial or residential solar system.

David Peterson from Green Stock Solar has done an excellent job installing my solar awning system. Installing a solar awning system is a challenge since it is not a common installation in the industry. He suggested to use the ProSolar Tilt-​Up Kit with longer legs and it worked perfectly. I have asked a few companies before and what they suggested, and their response was to use a custom made awning frame. A custom made frame would have been more expensive and require additional PE approvals.
I am very pleased with David’s quality of work and the schedule. He meticulously placed the panels so that they were straight and have the optimum sun angle. He took time to ensure the placements and connections of the parts were done correctly. It took him only two days to complete the project and the building inspectors approved it without any major findings. The electrical inspector told me that he did an excellent job on the electrical system.
There are many other things I could add, but mainly I’d like to say again that he did an outstanding work. The solar awning looks great.
