The Boxes

I was using this store for shipping for a while because it was convenient… safely shipped a decent number of packages, but not overly impressed by service.
But I recently tried to ship a very large box from here worth about 500 bucks. I printed the shipping label at home, packed it all up and brought it to The Boxes. Left it with them to put on the label as they had done this in the past– I’d seen them do it with no issues so didn’t watch them tape it on and didn’t think anything of it. The next week I go to track the box and it hasn’t even been scanned yet! I called the store inquiring about what happened, very nicely, not accusing them of anything, and the owner gets defensive saying they haven’t lost anything in 8 years so there’s no way it was their fault and yelling at me for losing my package! I went into the store as well to see if maybe it was around, with no luck only to be yelled at again — guess I shoulda been less trusting with them. Next time I will certainly be taking my business elsewhere.
So moral of the story, if you want to lose $ 500 bucks worth of shipping and get yelled for it, avoid at all costs! I will never be going back!

I’ve been here a few times and have never had a good experience. The lady who runs the place is one of the most difficult, unnerving, and unfriendly people I’ve ever met in a customer service environment. Her husband clearly works for her because once she says something crass — and she usually does — he just keeps his mouth shut. She’s ripped open a package of mine out of refusal to mail said package for me, she’s yelled at me, and her attitude is just downright disgusting. If you hate your job and life that much that you feel the need to treat the few people like crap who are keeping your feeble business open, maybe you should reconsider your direction in life altogether.
If you can stand the post office, your experience will be exponentially better — that much I can guarantee. Even my worst USPS nightmare could never hold a candle to what I’ve endured at this terrifying establishment.
But they have a cute dog… that’s about the only thing they have going for them.

What happens when you’re a petite and you live in a world of tall people? You know your way around shopping on the internet. So, my clothes shopping is much like yours. Only you try things on in a dressing room and hang the unwanted clothing on a rack or hand it to a sales person. In my world, I buy a lot of clothes to try on and then I have to ship half of them back.
And The Boxes is where I most often do that. Not only is it fast to get in and out, but I find them to be very helpful. I once had a very expensive return and HAD to get it shipped back within a small window of days in order to get my money back. They added extra tape to my box and then told me that I’d missed their window for the day and directed me where to go instead. Didn’t charge me for adding extra tape to my box. That pretty well sealed the deal on me returning.
They carry all kinds of things besides ample shipping supplies. –wrapping paper, tissue paper, stuffed animals, small toys, cards… Pretty much anything you’d need to throw together a care package for a young person or a person young at heart.
If for nothing else, use them because they are a local independently owned store. It might just be a shipment for you, but it’s rent for them.

I have to agree with the other posts — the woman is rude and after attempting to like this store on previous visits, I will not be returning. Terrible customer service such as constant complaining about her family, in-​laws and other customers is a total turn off. I just want to mail a box not hear about family drama and be asked pointless questions. I have tried to support this small business but they lost me.

I had one good experience here out of three and I don’t think I will ever go back.
The woman who works there is does not listen to customers and is not helpful. It also smells like old food in there.
I live right across the street but would rather drive 50 miles than give them any more of my business.
Word of advice — treat your customers with some respect. I shouldn’t have to talk over you or ask you to let me talk. This store is not busy and is getting horrible reviews everywhere I looked so…

There are a lot of business’s in Naperville that offer the same service. I should have gone to one of them. But I just googled boxes in Naperville and decided on them. I should have read the Unilocal reviews first One would think that they would be customer friendly and helpful but they were not. Not only that but I found them to be expensive. I ended up going somewhere else and my pocketbook thanked me!

I agree with most others on here. They are downright rude. Yes, there is an adorable dog there, but the owners are so rude. Horibble customer service and horrible prices. They quoted me on shipping 3 boxes at over $ 100 dollars. I left and went to FedEx where I shipped all 3 boxes for around $ 30 and got much better customer service! I honestly can’t believe they’re still in business.

They do have a lot of shipping supplies but their prices are pretty bad. I do understand they are running a business but it’s over double the online rate. Very nice people though with a nice dog but the cost of everything is very high. You do get great service though so if you don’t mind the cost it’s fine but it is expensive

If I could give this no stars, I would. I have been shipping through here for all my shipping needs (holidays, birthdays, buying stamps, etc.) almost 2.5 years because it is convenient. I have never been over-​impressed with this place (it usually takes a while, they’re not very friendly, etc.) but it was convienent and easy so I kept going. I won’t be going anymore nor, will I recommend it to my neighbors or friends.
This morning, I had my nanny drop off a postage-​paid box there for a return I needed shipped back — so it should have been a simple, painless, straightforward process. When my nanny dropped it off, the owner (the same woman others have said below was rude) yelled at her asking which address it neeed to go to. Apparently we forgot to rip off or cross off the original address label (where it was adressed from the company to me) — it was not my nanny’s fault for not noticing that or knowing the shipping rules. The owner yelled at her and kept asking which address needed to be crossed out — my nanny told her, the owner crossed it out, and my nanny left. My nanny was on the phone with a relative and on her way out of the store, she told her relative about this terrible experience/​said how rude The Boxes etc woman was to her (okay, admitting not the best thing to do while in the store — but regardless). After my nanny got into her car to leave, the owner came running out, yelling and screaming at her saying that she wouldn’t ship our package and to take it back.
Because I was not there to experience this drama myself, I gave the owner a call just to see what happened, give her a chance to redeem herself from a customer service perspective, etc. and also share my feedback that I didn’t think her actions were very professional. The woman right away started yelling, screaming and arguing her position with me before even hearing what I had to say or was calling about, etc. I probably said all of 17 words when she hung up on me and said that she didn’t want to argue any more with me. :) Okay, no problem. We’re done. Sorry you’re having a bad day. I wasn’t calling to argue. I was calling to see how she’d respond and if she had the professionalism and customer service where-​with-​all to apologize and say perhaps that the entire situation could have been handled differently. I got my answer.
I’m not one to post negative reviews but this experience was so terrible that I felt obligated to for everyone else’s sake. It is worth driving further away to find shipping another place. Trust me.

I dig supporting small business. They ship usps, ups, fed ex. They have all the box sizes you could imagine.
They even create you an account and they print all the post labels for you. They take an email and you get an immediate receipt.
Plus there is an adorable dog here. Love.

We are moving to costa i spot this ad. as i have been checking rates to ship 5 boxes, on their website clearly says we ship anything anytime, and anywhere… as we were in convo the guy says… oh we dont do that anymore, that wont fir thru our doors their 36 inch… we use to have them just drop off at my house? when i questioned his ad, he wasnt to excited .We preoceeded into the convo. asking him the biggest size box i could ship .i said from uhaul i was familiar with a wardrobe box, so was he… BUT he said it was too big. I asked him what the smaller box size from that would be, again to get the answer. lol we have over 200 boxes… i questioned the way he was talking to me. then he said 18×118×18 was the BIGGEST box that costa ricca would accept. he said it was the problem of costa rica not his. so i asked him what the pirice of just that one box would be he said 900.00…i tild him i recieved a quote for all 5 boxes to go that were bigger for 1200… he was very rude, and didnt care. he said Yea just for you will change our web page saying we dont go to costa rica, and he hung up on me. me and my wife were amazed… rude. rude rude.

Avoid at all costs. They will ship boxes by FedEx or UPS,
but in my experience they charge 100% or more above what
the FedEx or UPS shipping calculator shows. That is bad,
but what is really bad is that they will claim they are charging
standard FedEx and UPS rates — NOT TRUE.
In contrast, at the nearby UPS Store on Diehl Rd in Warrenville,
the charges are only slightly more than the online UPS shipping
calculator. And the service is much faster and friendlier
than at The Boxes.
