The prices are a tad expensive but I have to give big props to a person that supports local arts and tries to adopt kittens to the public. The store is small, but it is full of local jewelry from Tennessee artists. There is also prints and ceramics for sale if you are looking for a gift. The kittens running around are a nice touch because they are just so cute. While I do alot of browsing at this store, I have never been compelled to buy anything just yet. It is just lovely to go by and take a look though.

Natural Selection does not really fit into the whole hipster 20 somethings boutique scene that Hillsborough Village has going on, but nonetheless has its place. Catering more to eclectic hippie mom variety, Natural Selection offers bags, jewelry, hand-made plates and vases, and paintings in the moderate to expensive range. It’s not the kind of place that I would find anything to my liking, but I think it serves its place in someone’s world.

Before I pan this place, let me state that I respect the owner for doing her part to find homes for sweet kitties. As for the store, the prices are too expensive for the quality of jewelry that’s on sale. I’ve found higher quality pieces that look similar for less money. The best comparison is that this place reminds me of a place that sells fake Rollex watches; their stuff may look like the jewelry you see in high-end places, but it is a cut below the real stuff. Sorry about the pan; the lady who owns it must be a sweetheart to help adopt homeless cats. I have 4 cats, and my wife would kick me out if I brought home another.

Natural Selection is a cute store where you can find great gift jewelry, cats wandering freely, and assorted trinkets. I really cannot believe this is the first review for this store, given its location on bustling 21st avenue. I love their selection of wind chimes outside on the sidewalk, and love to listen to them as I eat on the patio at Jackson’s next door.
