Salon Ya Ya

Kayla is super cute and sweet! She toned my hair and curled them so beautifully. And waxed my brows perfectly too! I called at the last minute and fortunately they were able to get me in. Go try Kayla’s craft!!!

Salon Ya Ya has now rescued my hair not once but TWICE, with two different stylists trimming and coloring my ‘do that ended up less than stellar somewhere else. (I’m a little too much of a coward to express dissatisfaction in a hairdo. but hey, it’s led me to Salon Ya Ya, so it’s all good.)
I’ve now seen Tori a few times for cuts only, and I’m really looking forward to having color done by her. She’s been very honest with me about the condition of my hair … which when I went in for the first time, was not good. :D She cut off all the dead parts — which was a lot. But it looked great when I walked out of there, and also looked great the other time or so that I’ve seen her.
I like how ‘tucked-​away’ the salon is. The salon has actually turned me on to some great Redken products too (like the spray wax!), which before I didn’t have a ton of faith in.

This salon is way too pricey for the generic job that they do. I am all for people getting paid in full for their craft but Redken products nor the stylists who are employed here do $ 200 worth of base color jobs.

I wish I could have given this place more stars, considering everyone else on here had a great experience with them. Maybe I just went in on the wrong day or got the wrong stylist. I went in asking for a reverse ombré, (blonde on top going into a dark brown) The stylist said she could do it and charged me 221 dollars for it. Well, my hair isn’t a ombré AT ALL! I had people asking me the very next day, if I need to go to a stylist to get my roots touched up! No one wants to hear that right after getting your hair done! I like the darkness of it, but that’s not what I asked for and the picture I showed her I wanted, is not even close. I even asked what I can do about me not being happy with my hair, Tori (the stylist who did my hair.) told me she knew she couldn’t achieve the ombré I asked for, but yet charged me 221 DOLLARS for a style I didn’t get. Who does that? I will not return there as I think they don’t know how to do an ombré, which they may not have been taught but don’t go claiming you can do something and charge people for it, and turns out I have a half blonde head and half dark brown. Looks like I’m a blonde who dyed her hair dark and the roots are coming out, who wants to pay for that?! I know I don’t and wish I could get my money back… But unfortunately if they screw up your hair, you deal with it. Be cautious when getting a dye job done from there!

I’m new in the area and I was in need of a trim. I looked up «black hair salon», saw Salon YaYa, and all the great reviews. I called to make an appointment for a wash, trim, and color. I specifically asked if the salon had a stylist who knew how to do black hair and I was assured they had one. I was told the appointment was for slotted for two hours and there may not be enough time for color, which I was fine with.
When I arrived I met my stylist who assured me she would be able to color, wash, blow dry, and trim my hair in two hours. This was the beginning of an awful appointment.
I came into the salon with dry, curly, unclean hair. She used a flatiron to straighten my hair, then started trimming in. It was extremely poofy. I have always had stylists wash, blow dry, flat iron, then trim my hair. Afterwards, she set the color in and by the time she washed it out we hit the two hour time limit. I reminded the stylist I was on a time crunch, she promised two hours, and I couldn’t afford to be late.
She started to blow dry my hair using her fingers to detangle my 3C curly hair. This was when I knew she had never worked on black hair. Towards the end I took the blow dryer, flat iron, and tried to finish my hair. By the time I left we hit three hours and my hair was a mess. I left putting my hair in a bun.
I felt like I was lied to when I called asking if they had someone who could do black hair and I was given an inexperienced stylist. All the coupons I received can’t undo the horrific hair cut I received.

Fantastic haircut! If your a guy who cares about how they present themselves and don’t want to break the bank this is the place for you. Great stylist and a very male
friendly environment.

This was my go-​to salon when I was living in Nashville, and I miss Danielle so so much. It’s a Redken salon and they do a great job of explaining their products and techniques. The products are pricey but I’m a total fan now! Seriously, all the girls are amazing, but when in doubt– Danielle! Cut, color, style, men’s, anything!!!

Danielle is a god with scissors! I’m a 29 years old man and I’m very particular about the quality of my cut because it needs to look professional, but not something that my father would wear. I have been trying to find someone for the last year and my search is over. What impressed me most was that Danielle listened to every word I said about what I’d like the outcome to be and she delivered. She definitely just made me a lifelong customer.

All I can say is Haley makes me look and feel like a Rock Star!!!
She is awesome and knows just what I want and delivers.
When I say make it blue with green and purple she triangles me up and I come out
looking fabulous.

I spent a year trying different salons until I read about this place on Unilocal.The location is very convenient if u work at Vanderbilt and Reyna my sylist is awesome. She is a fun person and always listens to what I want done and does a great job. she Also does free bang trims between cuts!

Courtney has been cutting and coloring my hair for the last three years and she is the best! Just what you would expect from a Redken Artist! Salon Yaya is surprisingly reasonable and the staff is excellent. Very friendly and the location is convenient with plenty of parking.

I have been going to Salon Ya Ya for cut and color since I moved to Nashville 6 months ago. Haley P. is my stylist, and she is great. She is obviously well-​versed in the latest techniques and she is very good at interpreting what I ask for in cut and color. I get compliments on my color a lot, and I’ve sent 4 or 5 friends to her– all have been very happy. I’m super picky about color, and as a natural blonde it is sometimes a challenge to find someone who can do good highlights and lowlights on blondes. They use Redken hair color and carry Redken and Pureology products. Love this place. Highly recommend.

I moved to Nashville in October from Chicago and Unilocal lead me to Salon Ya Ya. It was a good choice and I haven’t been to another salon in Nashville. My major concern was someone being able to tame and style my thick, coarse hair. Danielle was up to the challenge and has done a fantastic job so I keep going back!
The location is convenient, but it is not the most open or airy place being almost underground. However, the owners have done a good job with the space.
Danielle, and the staff in general, are so warm and welcoming. You get the service of any high end salon without the pretentiousness. I like how Danielle is always telling me what she is using and at the end when I’m checking out she shows me all the products that touched my hair that day. It’s a nice way to take note of new things that one might want to try out. (And they are not pushy about you buying products you really don’t need)
Men don’t be scared of this place. If you like to have your hair longer than a buzz cut then this might be a really good option for you. They have good prices and great quality service. Check it!

I’ve already gushed twice here about my girl Reyna’s awesome abilities to cut and highlight hair, and all of that remains true. But now I’m going to tell you all about her other special talent of getting rid of unwanted hair… facial hair!
I don’t know about you, but whenever Spring rolls around, I tend to feel a bit… grizzly. Like a bear coming out of hibernation, I often find I’ve let my personal grooming get a bit lax and could use a bit of sprucing up. I’ve never been one to get very intense about my brows, I generally just like a bit of subtle shaping and tidying up, no tinting or intense makeovers on that front. When I went in for my most recent hair appointment, I asked Reyna if she could also whip my brows back into shape and take care of my upper lip too. Even though I hadn’t booked this ahead, it wasn’t a problem, as she speedily defuzzed my face, giving my brows the much-​needed primping that they needed. My eye area is really sensitive, but with Reyna at the helm, it was a quick and (relatively) painless process. Plus, for $ 17, this might be one of the best deals in town! (FYI: Upper lip wax was $ 13.)
I’m sure there are some benefits to going to a wax-​dedicated salon if you have fancy (or intimate!) waxing needs, but for ladies who like to multi-​task, I just wanted to point out that Salon Ya Ya is a great option for those who’d like to get all their hair needs looked after in a single visit. Now that all of my hair is back under control, I feel like a spring chicken ready to strut!

Salon ya ya rules. Been going there for years. I’ve become good friends with Courtney and Reyna– such good friends that I actually alternate back & forth between the two of them. Gotta share the love!
And dudes– don’t be afraid. Don’t think «it doesn’t matter» when it comes to guys’ hair. I mean, if you’re getting a buzz cut, sure– might as well do that yourself, but anything that requires skill– these ladies will hook you up and give you just as much attention as they do the fancy girl-​dos.

A few months ago, I wanted to hop on the ombré train. After MUCH turmoil and tragedy (and entirely too much color and damage) from another salon, I ended up in Danielle’s chair at Ya Ya. THIS GIRL SAVED MY HAIR. I was completely unhappy with the look the other salon had given me. And I had spent 6 hours in that salon (3 the first time, and 3 to «fix» it the second time), and I was not going back after that. I was lucky enough to stumble upon Danielle via some googling, and I couldn’t be happier.
She really listened to what I wanted, and she walked me through every step to be sure it was what I wanted. She was super sensitive to what I had already gone through, and I really appreciated that.
I get compliments on my hair everyday. People tell me it’s the best ombré look they’ve seen done in Nash.
Danielle cut me too, as it was absolutely necessary after all that my hair had been through. She was sensitive to my attachment to the length, but also honest about what needed to be taken off. I was very happy with the cut as well.
I’m definitely going back. And I’m only sorry it took me so long to write this review.

I went in to Salon Ya Ya today for a haircut and all-​over color. I called them at about 10:15 this morning to see if they had anything available today since I’m going to a wedding in Las Vegas this week and wanted the color to tone itself down just a little bit by then. They got me in just 30 minutes later with Danielle who did an awesome job. She made sure to really listen to what I wanted and made suggestions that she thought would work for me. I have naturally curly hair, and it’s difficult to find someone who can cut AND style it without it turning into a huge fuzzy mess, but Danielle did an outstanding job! She made sure to talk me through everything she was doing so there were no surprises.
The only qualms I had with the salon are that the color was a little pricey (though I understand because my hair is thick and long) and they don’t take AmEx, which is something that would’ve been very useful to know beforehand.

All I can say is they just keep getting better, great service, awesome customer service and a very friendly staff.
Kira has cut my hair three times and she is amazing, my hair still looks good several weeks after each cut. Great producty advice and does give you a sales pitch. Love it!

Great hidden place in the basement of the office building across the street from Harris Teeters on 21^st. Got a simple 6-​inch «trim» by Sarah who threw in some free advice on how to curl my hair the right way and just the right amount of friendly convo. With the $ 10 coupon off of Unilocal,this place is a bargain for people who don’t like to spend too much time and money on hair. (But it also appears to be popular with people who love their hair too.)
The only downside is that I felt like I couldn’t leave without a being suckered into buying a bottle of expensive hair product.

— My hair is shoulder length not mid-​back length. There were two stylists present in the salon. Both female. I.e. no David present.
— 3 inches of roots does not happen in 10 weeks of growth. I did not ask for the foils, which were 6 not 8; the stylist suggested them.
— My appointment was for an all over color NOT color correction and I DID NOT request a color correction but paid for one.
— And it wasn’t 3 hours, it was 3 hours and 50 minutes for color. Color alone. I just wanted my grow out and grey covered.
— My stylist was made aware of my disappointment with the length of time it took.
