Wow… This was a nice surprise. Found Bar Catalina on Seamless and after reading the Unilocal reviews, I ordered. Food arrived promptly & warm. Arugula Salad with walnuts & blue cheese, I added grilled chicken. Dressing a bit salty so I substituted with my own balsamic vinegar & olive oil. Glad I did, as the greens were so very fresh with so much taste. Grilled chicken also seasoned was on point! Ordered the Hell’s Kitchen burger for hubby. The baked onion roll and fresh Avacado was a hit. Chicken Parm was amazing. Chicken was grilled and the sauce… In a word, FANTASTIC!!! Side of Penne with fresh parsley al dente was just perfect! I’m so happy I’ve discovered Bar Catalina. Take-out… A GEM!!!

Awesome! So after bringing some friends from out of town over to Times Square, we decided to grab dinner here. We Literally passed dozens of places but I heard so much about the pizza & cocktails we just had to go. We were served by Andres(tall with glasses) and after a hectic day he really made us feel right at home. We got the best recommendations on drinks and re ordered pizza twice. Can’t wait to come back. Ambiance, food and service was great. Prices are not bad at all considering the quality

Finding an interesting spot to eat/drink before a Broadway show is increasingly a hopeless task. No longer. We found Bar Catalina last night prior to seeing King Charles III at the nearby Music Box theater. Started with the cheese/meat plate, then meatballs, penne pomodora and a market salad… all small plates the group can share. All delicious and fresh. Wine list is excellent. Service was outstanding.

Stumbled upon Bar Catalina for a work trip. I sat at the bar with a girlfriend and we split a pizza and two salads. Everything was fine, until the check came… The waiter(Andres) at the end of dinner told me he couldn’t split our check even though we were only two diners ordering a non-complicated meal. He was very, very rude. So i told him this was going to affect my willingness to tip him a full 20%. Especially considering his attitude. When I checked my billing statement to submit my expense report, Andres fraudulently wrote in an substantial tip on top of what i gave him into my bill thinking i wouldn’t notice. Fortunately, my corporate AMEX card refunded the extra no questions asked. Bar Catalina won’t pick up their phone or respond to my voicemails. This is fraud. Check your account after you go here. Beware.

Been to this spot a couple times now for a quiet dinner with drinks. Surprisingly, despite the good reviews and tiny locale, there are always seats available. Most recent time around, shared the Margherita Pizza($ 11.50) and Wood Oven Chicken Breast($ 17.50). The wood oven pizza is made extremely well, with whole tomaotes on top that added to the fresh flavor. The chicken breast is gigantic — huge portion of chicken served with a citrus salad. Juicy meat, but it needed some sort of sauce to give it a more balanced flavor. Unfortunately they had no side sauces to provide, so I wrapped it up in either salad or pizza instead. To drink we got the house margaritas($ 9 each). Very very strong drinks. They do not skimp on the tequila, so you get your money’s worth there. This place is an excellent spot for a dinner date; as they don’t play loud music, have good service, and great food. Will keep coming back for more pizza.

A solid cocktail bar in Midtown West. Plenty of seating was available on a Saturday night. I’m obsessed with the catalina(one of their cocktails). I probably ordered 4 – 5 of them. I wasn’t a huge fan of the mojito, but luckily, when I told them I didn’t like it, they swapped it out for a catalina. Great service! As for the food, I liked the burrata appetizer and the margherita pizza. I was not a fan of the wood oven shrimp appetizer – the shrimp were incredibly overcooked and therefore very tough.

OMG that mushroom truffle pizza. Just get it. Just do it. And don’t share. Sangria is good too — 2 for 1 specials on certain nights.

Ran across this place on Unilocal in Hell’s Kitchen while looking up restaurants for my visit and glad I did. A little leery to walk in at first because the place was dead empty but, Im so glad I did. I apparently arrived around the time they just opened; all other establishments around had been opened for a while and quite crowded. Food(5): Five! Five! Five all the way! I ordered the Mediterranean salad and Margherita pizza. Absolutely fantastic! I washed them both down with, not one but, two glasses of their house Red Sangria(delish!) The pizza was the perfect size for one person, so glad I didn’t have anyone with me(sharing is not my best quality when it comes to food). The sauce was just right. It had the right amount of spices which brought out the perfect flavor. And that fresh mozzarella and basil… Oh…Em…Gee! I can’t even begin to describe the experience(I literally wanted to order another but that would’ve just been plum greedy! Lol.) And those Sangrias! Oh boy! One of the best I’ve had in a while. The bartender was nice enough to allow me to sample them both(Hee Hee! Who doesn’t like samples?) After tasting them both, the red won my heart and became my favorite. Good thing I walked, driving would not have been a good thing after those two puppies. Oh! And let’s not forget the dessert! Lemon Chiffon Mousse! Mmm! Mmmm! Mmmm! Absolutely to die for! Ambiance(5): I appreciated the fact that it was small; that made it personal. The size allowed the servers to adequately get to their customers in a timely fashion versus having them wait forever. The bar was rather clean and neatly organized. The libations selection was clearly visible making it expedient for one to order one’s drink and keep it pushing. I’d DEFINITELY return on my next trip to NYC!

Trying my best not to let the other Unilocalers sway my review, but I was not impressed by this place at all. The reviews contain very positive remarks, which is great, but my experience was not similar(hopefully it was just an anomaly). I came here with a colleague one evening, as we wanted to grab a drink after a long day of work. It’s a small little bar on 9th ave, with a few tables, a bar, and a brick oven pizza station in the back. We got a high-top table towards the back and our waiter came to take our drink order. He was a bit peculiar — either he was high or confused, or both… he just had the biggest smile on his face the whole time. I ordered their bourbon drink, I want to say the bourbon smash, and it was decent. Albeit, it’s a bit small, but it packed a good punch. There was some fresh cinnamon sticks inside the drink, as well. We started to get hungry so we ordered the hummus and got the eggplant pizza. The hummus was super salty and did not taste good at all — very bland, dry, and salty. Especially since the flatbread was a bit salty, it made it worse. The pizza was completely undercooked and would fall apart. The veggies were not grilled all the way, and the dough was very chewy. Given the plethora of other options to drink and eat in Hell’s Kitchen, I’ll probably stay away from this place unless someone really persuades me to go back.

We came here in a big group and were seated right away. I thought the service here was great. Some people were late and they still allowed us to hold the table. We had their Catalina and their Prosciutto pizza and both were great. I liked the prosciutto pizza better. Everything we ordered was pretty good. They also have good deals on beers and wines.

Unlike many other new places I’ve tried, Bar Catalina has turned out of be a nice addition to the Hell’s Kitchen area. This small, but well-appointed bar offers some nice drink and happy hour options. The $ 6 mohito was a pleasant surprise. The food there is also decent. I ordered the Catalina burger which was flavorful and the meat was tender and juicy. Another highlight was the lemon chiffon mousse, which had a nice tart flavor to it. The presentation was top-notch and reminded me of the desserts you get in some high-end restaurants. This is a great place to grab a drink with friends or visit on date night. There’s a decent amount of seating for such a small place but I can see it getting very crowded on a busy night.

I sadly wasn’t particularly impressed by this place. Their food and drinks were all okay. We ordered their Catalina Burger(pretty good, a bit cheesier than most, liked the jalapenos in it, but took out the red onions), mozzarella and prosciutto flatbread aka pizza(decent), and their lamb meatballs(a little too gamey). We initially asked the bartender(we were sitting at the bar) for his opinion of the lamb meatballs, but to our disappointment, he said he never tried it before. Their raved-about Catalina drink with pear vodka was tasty — the edible flower was cool — but not good enough to make a trip here unless I was in the area. I probably would come back for their Happy Hour deals(5−7PM daily with $ 5 beer + sangria)!

Came in here on a Thursday with a group of four. Luckily my boyfriend got there earlier and was able to grab us the last table in the back. This place is small, so better to come with one other… 4 max! My friend and I got the cantalina cocktail with the edible flower since we had read about it on Unilocal. It was super smooth a bit on the sweeter side and the flower tasted like… A flower? For food we got the burrata, meatballs and 3 flatbreads. Everything was so tasty. Burrata– smooth with a nice hint of citrus in the olive oil served in the bottom. The slices of oven baked bread were chewy and toasty and so delectable. Meatballs– not your regular Italian meatballs. Had a 3 meat blend with great spice and a roasted tomato sauce. All of the flatbreads were awesome and perfect for sharing. We tried the mushroom and truffle, lamb and truffle and sausage, prosciutto, tomato-yum! Service was very attentive and did a great job keeping water glasses full. It was difficult to actually fit all of the food we ordered onto the table as it was small, things were tight.

Great new spot! Their tequila drink with the edible flower is fabulous! I did not try to eat the flower but it is an interesting concept. We ordered their burrata, prosciutto flat bread and the burger that is off the menu. The burrata was so soft and fresh. It was definitely my favorite item of the night. We came when it was not crowded and we were offered a booth of 6 seats just for the 2 of us so we had plenty of room.

It’s not on the menu, but best burger I’ve had in NYC. They cook the burger and bun in a firewood oven. Everything is made in house, including the bun and bar snacks. Seasonal cocktails were on point. If you have the chance, try the Red. I’ve posted some pics of a few cocktails I’ve tried. Been here twice and would definitely bring friends. Service is phenomenal. You’ll have a great time here.

If you’re reading this review cause you’re on the fence about trying out Bar Catalina — my recommendation is to just go for it. It is probably one of the best spots around Hell’s Kitchen. Whenever I pass by, Bar Catalina always seems to be busy but not overwhelmingly so. I came here on a Saturday night and felt genuinely welcomed by the staff. They were very warm and I immediately felt comfortable. I got the recommended«The Catalina» with pear vodka and edible flower. The first sip blew me away cause it was a lot better than I expected! Don’t want to overhype, but highly highly suggest getting this. It was strong but I could not tell there was vodka; a little bit foamy and sweet, but not too sweet; very enjoyable to sip on. I ate the edible flower … it just tasted like flower. Prices are maybe a little more expensive than the rest of Hell’s Kitchen, but for the quality and craft of the cocktails, the timely service(they were so good at refilling water cups), and chill and non-pretentious atmosphere, it’s worth shelling out the couple dollars for sure. As an added star, they brought out complimentary lemon ricotta cheesecake for everyone in the bar to try! It was delicious… They said they’re testing out a new item so if you see it on the menu sometime — I recommended it first! I can’t wait to tell my roommates to try this place and have a spot to impress out-of-towners :)

Came here for drinks on a Sunday evening and sat at the bar. They had the front door/windows open, and the air felt great. Nice, but a bit pricey wine list, and a full cocktail menu with something for everyone. The bartender was super nice, and made the drinks in a flash. It was cool to see the pizza oven in the restaurant, and it didn’t make the restaurant feel warmer that it would have been. Didn’t order any food, but I would definitely recommend this place for a nice cocktail or glass of wine before or after dinner. A welcomed place in HK.

My first review was less than a month ago, but now we have been several times and Bar Catalina deserves a more in depth and glowing review. 1. The ambiance is fantastic. Not too quiet, but not loud at all. The renovations make much better use of the space than the previous restaurant. I am not sure if it is the lighting, or the choice of colors, but there is something very soothing about it. 2. The service could not be any better. The hostess, the bartenders, the wait staff, everyone is focused, relaxed, and determined that you have an enjoyable time. Everyone knows the menu, cocktail list, and wine list, and you would be cheating yourself if you do not take their recommendations, particularly for off menu items. Last night our server was John. He may be the owner as well. He was as nice as could be, obviously a professional, and passionate about the restaurant’s offerings. I haven’t felt so welcome in a restaurant in a long time, and that isn’t because I have had unwelcoming experiences, they are just that professional. 3. The wine list and cocktail list are interesting yet not overwhelming. Everything is carefully picked and serves a purpose. There is something to piqué interest at every price level. You can see the care that goes into making the cocktails if you are seated at the bar. 4. The food is great. Personally I would attribute it to everything being centered around the wood burning oven. The menu is not extensive, it has several offerings that are all executed very well. You can’t go wrong with any of the appetizers, mezes, or flatbreads. The pear dessert is delicious, and last evening we had a lemon chiffon that was so elegantly executed and presented you would think you were at a Michelin starred restaurant. The burger, it isn’t on the menu, but get it. Don’t think twice. Aged beef patty(Pat Lafreida maybe?), on a bun freshly baked in the oven that is somewhere between a brioche and the best pizza crust you have ever had, just a thin slice of cheddar cheese, one thin onion slice, lettuce and tomato. They dress it in a black truffle aioli. The balance of flavors is perfect. The beef is the star, the bread the highlight, the often overplayed truffle flavor isn’t a gimmick, it adds a beautiful dimension without overtaking the bread or beef. Some crisp and freshness from the lettuce and tomato finish off a burger that may just be perfection. In a city jam packed with good burgers, this is the closeted star you haven’t tried yet. It could easily compete with such luminaries as Minetta Tavern’s and the Old Homestead’s burgers. One last tip… the house roasted nuts are ridiculous. There isn’t really anything I can say that does Bar Catalina justice other than to try it. Just go.

Awesome new cocktail bar in the neighborhood! Very friendly staff. Great atmosphere. And of course great speciality cocktails. If you are looking for some food… it’s delicious as well. Try the flatbreads or the burger that isn’t on the menu! Amazing!
