My husband and my favorite cupcake place in the whole city. I can’t get enough of the moist and delicious banana cupcake with Nutella frosting, and my husband always goes for the cheesecake, which is spectacular.

I traveled to NYC extensively for my last job and a highlight was this bakery. The first time I tried it was 2014 and I was floored by the Banana Cake and Espresso Cake and couldn’t wait to go back in 2015. In May 2015 I had the black and white cake and it was awful, super sweet frosting and just sugar sugar sugar with no flavor. I actually threw it in the trash. So, it’s kind of hit or miss — I’ve since left that job :) so not sure when I will be back but I will definitely go back for the banana cake next time.

Billy’s Bakery never lets me down. I ordered the party package; it comes with a cake plus cupcakes ($ 100). That’s a awesome deal! I emailed them with a request to cover the cake with sprinkles; not only did they do it they didn’t charge me. Service there is always friendly and quick. The cake and cupcakes were delicious. Thanks again.

Bought a box of mini red velvet cupcakes yesterday for a birthday and everyone really liked them! I always find that Billy’s has really really sweet Frosting but this batch was pretty good. I bake a ton so I’m very picky when it comes to homemade cupcakes and they were a little dry for me but they were a crowd pleaser so that’s all that matters!

Bought a slice of carrot cake for almost $ 6. Kinda pricey, but that’s what you can expect from a well known NYC bakery. The slice was huge and I actually split it with two other people. It worked out perfectly since the cake had three layers. The cake itself was nice and moist and I really enjoyed the nuts and the raisins an the coconut. The cake wasn’t overly sweet and my friends and I agreed that we really liked that. I wasn’t a huge fan of the cream cheese frosting. The cream cheese flavor was milder than I usually like and it tasted closer to buttercream. Good cake, but not the best. I like my homemade version better.
They had lots of other delicious looking treats that I would love to come back and try another time.

Billy’s was started by prior employees from Magnolia Bakery, but they improved upon the formula. To me, Magnolia uses way too much sugar and the actual cake part of the cupcake is extremely dry, I mean really dry. So I don’t ever go to Magnolia. I prefer Billy’s as they manage to keep their cake part moist, which is much better, in my opinion. And well, I live in West Chelsea, so it’s convenient for me as well.
If I had written this review 5 years ago, I would have given Billy’s 5-​Stars.
However, as I’ve been coming to Billy’s for about 10 years now, I feel like the ownership must have changed a few years ago, cause the quality has gone down slightly, in my opinion.
In addition to the slight downgrade in quality, I’ve noticed that the cupcake size has also gone down by about 10−20%, which is a bummer, given that each cupcake is $ 4 each.
I still think Billy’s is a great bakery, and they definitely don’t skimp on their Cake Slices, so if you’re looking for value, that’s what you should get.
We came late on a Saturday night around 11pm and got a Chocolate Cupcake and slice of Coconut Cake, of which, both were excellent.

All of these items are excellent, but I tend to favor the Chocolate Cupcake, Banana Cream Pie and German Chocolate Cake the most, but that’s just me.
You can’t go wrong coming here, and it’s best if you come early or late (they stay open until midnight on weekends) as seating is very limited. The prices are on the higher side, but it’s worth it, given the quality of the cakes and cupcakes.
If you have a sweet tooth or love cakes and cupcakes, this is your spot.

Half of my order was wrong, and the incorrect cookies were also stale. Not worth the money or the hype.

Cool bakery with a lot of beautiful and tasty dessert options. As I do from time to time, especially when times get hard, I doubled down. Got the chocolate cake and passionfruit cheesecake. I also got some milk to help with the digestion. Both cakes were tasty, but I would go with the cheesecake for the win.

My friend and I stopped by to celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day yesterday (Jan 27^th) after dinner. Lucky for us, they had two chocolate cakes: Crowd Pleaser and Classic Chocolate with Chocolate. Each slice is $ 5 – 6 and HUGE (5 layers!). Compared to cupcakes, they are more on the dry side. I liked the yellow cake in the Crowd Pleaser the most. The chocolate was a little too sweet.
I like their old school ambience and they’re open from early morning to late night. The cakes were okay and the staff are chill. Two tables worth of seating.

Stumbled in here on a very cold night, and was probably the only store I found open. The cupcakes and other items were decent. Nothing too memorable.

I’m a bit disappointed with my purchase today. I bought a slice of Red Velvet and a slice of the Bourbon Salted Caramel. I’m glad I bought two different slices because the Red Velvet was very crumbly and dry. The cream cheese frosting couldn’t even salvage the dryness. The cake also had an aftertaste and did not taste fresh. The Bourbon Salted Caramel slice, on the other hand, was very moist and delicious. But my true craving was for Red Velvet and Billy’s did not deliver.

My review is only for the icebox cake which is the only one I’ve tried so far. It’s a decent price for 40 $ and feeds 8 – 10 people and is delicious! It’s one of those cakes that don’t feel heavy to eat. Customer service was also great. I will come back to try the banana cakes and cupcakes!

I saw this place featured on the AppleTV Tastemade channel and I had to try it! I am so glad I did because the cheesecake was so good! It was light and fluffy with the perfect amount of graham cracker crust! Yum! The staff working were also super nice!
There isn’t a lot of seating inside or out so you may prepare to get your treats to go.

I love Billy’s Bakery! This is a really great little gem in Chelsea, NY. You can smell the aroma of all the baked goodies wafting down the blocked. There’s always a crowd, but don’t worry, service is quick! You never know which celebrity you’ll see on your visit.
Hands down, the best Carrot Cake and Red Velvet cake around town, trust me, I’ve put on 15lbs j/​k ;) Oh, by the way, they deliver around town or outta state

Billy’s Bakery, a place I cannot resist.
I was in the area and wondering what I can eat for a quick lunch. Then my bookmark poped up and directed me here, a tiny but packed bakery shop.
OH, look at their small cheesecakes, and the pear hand pie; cupcakes, beautiful.
That’s what’s on my mind when I entered this place.
Basically, I would eat everything
But I told myself to control and be a reasonable person before all those sugar kings.
I ended up with a pear hand pie, which is amazingly good.
The crust — crispy, flavored, but not dull at all
The pear — not so sweet and I love it. I felt like the crust is well balanced with the pear so that made my stomach full but not overfull.
Price: if you have a chance to get a good pastry, you should not judge your wallet.

Then, head over to Billy’s Bakery because they have put these 2 together. Cookie sandwich in vanilla or chocolate frosting.
Not IceCream, frosting. So, you don’t have to lick the frosting off the spoon anymore, nor get freeze brain when biting into cookie sandwich. You do get burst of decadence. Definitely worth trying

Billys what has happened to your cakes
After spending 170 bucks on cup cakes this morning for clients for Christmas I saved just one for myself. Sadly it was tasteless and a tad stale. I don’t think I would ever throw a cup cake in the bin but this was the day. It didn’t even look appetizing.

When Billy’s Bakery opened in Chelsea a dozen years ago there were regularly lines out the door for slices of their homey, multi-​layer cakes as well as for cupcakes and other desert sweets. Their small, sunny Eighth Avenue storefront was usually crowded with customers considering the two display cases or sitting briefly at the few tables and with staff behind the counters cooking as well as icing and serving. Today, Billy’s is not as crowded, the slices are considerably more expensive ($ 5 – 6 range) and unfortunately what had been a consistent line of largely outstandingly moist and rich cakes and pies by the slice has faded to a less consistent selection of more varied goods. If you’ve never been and fancy a classic «American style» desert do stop by, but the glory days have passed them by.

Billy’s Bakery is a cute place with a lot of varieties of sweets. Probably most known for their banana pudding and Ice Box cake. Huge fan of the Ice Box Cake. If you love Oreos, you will absolutely love this cake! It’s always a crowd pleaser at any party. I haven’t tried their banana pudding so I can’t comment on it, but it will be a must-​try the next time I visit the area.

This place has a lot of reviews and a 4-​star rating so apparently this rating will just be for my own benefit.
The banana cupcake was decent. The little cheesecake thing was a D-​minus project from a disinterested culinary school student…

Small bakery. I only remember seeing one table, but maybe there’re more… Everything in the showcase looked delicious. I tried one of the mini cherry cheesecakes and the raspberry crumb bar. Both tasted homemade and like fresh ingredients were used. The cheesecake was a different texture than what I’m familiar with, like it used something closer to ricotta than a creamier cheese, but it was still good. Nice place to pick up treats on the way to the piers.

I don’t really get the hype about this place.
Paying 35 bucks for a Banana Cake is pretty new to me. It certainly is a bit pricier than some of the other places I’ve been to. But since it was my sister’s birthday, it was worth a shot.
Unfortunately, there was nothing special about the Banana Cake. The cake itself was dry and the icing too sweet. It was difficult to enjoy the taste of bananas when the sweetness of the icing was so overpowering. My family literally had to eat between the layers of icing just to avoid sugar high.
Will I return? Probably not. Sorry Billy.

I use to wonder what the big deal was about this place after seeing long lines of people at all times of the day and night right outside of Billy’s.
It is this cute little charming bake shop right around the corner from my elementary school. Billy’s was not around then though. I enjoy walking by and observing them frosting cakes and cupcakes.
It took me some time to warm up to the hype and now I am a regular that ventures here to try some of their cakes and cupcakes when I have a craving or need to grab some sweet treats for a special occasion. Some of my recommendations include:
Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and the assorted nuts is my favorite
Red Velvet is fresh a staple
Chocolate is very rich, just make sure it was made fresh that day.
Coconut has nice coconut flakes
Ice Box cake is popular but not my favorite because
Vanilla with chocolate frosting is a solid option
What I enjoy most about this location besides the the fresh smell of cake baking and frosting is the sweet cotton candy colors throughout and in the wallpaper. Also, the white benches in and outside the shop where people can lounge. It gives really charming touch to the Billy’s experience that reminds me of a little cottage kitchen.
One other thing I love is that it has later hours than your average bakery. Love that convenience.

Popped into Billy’s Bakery while exploring Chelsea on a recent trip to New York. I was looking to buy sweet treats for my boyfriend’s parents, and Billy’s Bakery seemed just the place. I bought them a mini blueberry (or maybe it was blackberry, we weren’t sure) cheesecake and a mini cherry cheesecake. They both said they were very good. I also got a blackberry lime cupcake, which is their signature flavor I believe. The cupcake was delicious! They were very moist and the lime frosting was delicious. If I’m ever In Chelsea again I’ll have to stop by Billy’s Bakery to try even more goodies!

Billy Idol owned a bakery. If he had the chance, he’d teach the world to bake, but now he’s baking with himself. He tried to put a face on one of his cakes using frosting, but then he realized that it had Eyes Without A Face.
I’ve only been to Billy’s Bakery once. I tried a chocolate-​something cupcake, and a Red Velvet cupcake. I’m not a fan of cupcakes, but both of them tasted fantastic. The Red Velvet was particularly raved about by my food-​tour partner who gobbled hers down faster than Billy Idol used to get girls’ panties off. Probably still does.
Billy Idol, the owner, got very hungry one night, around 12.30am, in the middle of baking. He ate the cake he was baking, then ate another, and another, and another. In the Midnight hour, he cried more, more, more. With a Rebel Yell, he cried more, more, more.
This place was recommended to me by a few New York Unilocalers, so thank you very much to them for steering me to such a lovely little place. Thoroughly enjoyed, and I will go back in future when in the city and looking for cupcakes.
Anyway, it’s a nice day for some White Frosting. It’s a nice day to… bake again!

I like this place… I think? I know that I want to, but I’m just not sure of it yet.
I had tried some leftover carrot cake of theirs (that my boyfriend brought home) and it seemed pretty solid so I figured I’d give this place a try. For my first time here, I had:
— Banana Nutella cupcake: solid, but nothing special. The cupcake itself was a little too dense for me and I wish it was more soft & fluffy. The banana flavor is definitely there, though! Reminded me of a banana bread. The Nutella buttercream frosting was sugary and there was a lot of it! I don’t know that I could tell it was Nutella specifically, but it does taste like chocolate!
— Strawberry Shortcake Cup: strawberry shortcake is one of my favorites, so I was excited to try this. All the components are delicious on their own — the cake, the cream, and the strawberries. Can’t go wrong with this!
This place is a bit small — only two small tables. The place has a very retro feel to it, with he wallpaper and framed cloth on the walls. Their window display and chalkboard signs bring you back in time a bit. For me, I think there should be more distinction between something vintage and something that’s just old. I think the furniture and wallpaper have seen better days.
Service-​wise, it was fine. I felt a little rushed as I felt that the counter person was hovering over me as I looked over all the desserts. When I interacted with him, though he was friendly enough.
I’ll be coming back to make up my mind and try that icebox!
