Bubble Wrap Movers

Do not ever use this sleazy company. I recently moved about 3 blocks from Peter Cooper Village to Flatiron. Rights off the bat, the movers took 90% of our belongings and brought them to the basement of our building, then proceeded to go upstairs and spend an hour wrapping things in plastic, when we had already prepared everything for the move. It was basically a garage sale in the basement, and I had to stand down there the entire time to make sure nothing got stolen. We were quoted «2 – 3 hours» for the move, but by the time they finally stopped milking time by plastic wrapping, 2 hours had already passed. When we finally finished moving everything into our new place, it had been 3 and a half hours. The owner proceeded to charge us for 4 full hours, saying «WE ROUND UP HERE», and also charged us double the amount that we had agreed to pay for insurance. My girlfriend called to discuss the amount and was completely berated on the phone by «J-​Dub», their jerk of an owner, and he threatened to take us to court if we didn’t pay the full amount he asked for. We begrudgingly agreed but said that we would no longer tip his movers, and his response was «That’s not my problem.» If you want to be treated like crap by someone who doesn’t care about his customers or employees, give Bubble Wrap Movers a call.

What I have written in my original review is a direct recap of my experience. The owner’s «professionals» took their sweet old time to get us well beyond the original quoted time, and it would have taken much longer had I not been carrying things myself and constantly pushing the movers along. We were rounded up from 3.5 to 4 hours, because the company motto is «WE ROUND UP HERE» (direct quote). I don’t enjoy being charged more than what I am quoted for things, and that’s what their business model is.

Movers were nice but a bit slow at first– instead of wrapping big items before they started loading they did that last, leaving all of our tvs and small stuff out on the street for 25 minutes unsupervised. Owner is a jerk– quoted us 2 – 3 hours to move half of a one bedroom apartment THREE avenues. Only big furniture was a couch, dresser and bed, everything else was small boxes or TV. Ended up taking 3.5 hours and then they tried to charge us 520. Let’s do the math here, 3.5 hours at 115 an hour should be 430, plus 30 for our insurance. Owner fought with us on the phone saying they ROUND UP by hour and that he would take me to court for not paying the extra money. Ended up just not tipping his guys and paying 500 which he proceeded to tell me «wasn’t his fucking problem if his guys didn’t get paid a tip» — really nice way to treat your employees. Guy was a jerk, won’t use this company again. Now I believe the girl who said they pay people off to take down bad reviews
*UPDATE BASED ON BELOW COMMENTS FROM OWNER:
The estimated quote of 2 – 3 hours was fine and was what I was expecting when moving. Yes, it went 3.5 hours (which it shouldn’t have if there was not dilly dallying) but that would have ALSO been fine. 30 minutes over, no big deal. Where I have an issue is rounding up to 4 hours and telling me «we round up here» on the phone. When the movers told us the cost ($ 520), I said that sounded off and they told me to call you. However, whenever I called you, there was mysteriously no answer multiple times so your nice employee let me use their phone of course there is an answer then). You proceeded to scream at me about how you round up and how you would take me to court if I didn’t pay — THAT is where I have a problem. Do not treat your customers with that disrespect and if you have a «rounding up» policy (which you say you don’t in Dave L.‘s comment BTW — «Now as far as rounding up a 3.5 move to 4 hours, that’s a complete lie.»), politely explain that — don’t berate a paying customer. There is something called customer service and you should never scream and curse at someone who is calling to confirm an amount they think is incorrect.
In terms of stuff being left in the basement — this would have been fine if it was ONLY in the basement and upstairs as they were moving things. Half of our things were outside in an open truck and ON THE STREET and half of the other things were in the basement while items were being wrapped upstairs for over an hour. If the building has this policy, then you should wrap everything in the upfront and bring things down so that items aren’t being left in multiple places (where we do not have enough people to supervise, even if they so offer). Order of operations here is key and everything should have been wrapped and brought down so that it was quickly moved from basement to truck. Not a third outside, third in basement, and some upstairs still.
The only person taking food off of your employees tables was you — I said, I am not paying the «rounded up» cost and you insisted that I did or you would «take me to court» to which I responded, okay that was tip money for your HARD WORKING employees. You told me «That’s not my problem if they don’t get a tip» to which I said okay, and paid the 4 hours plus insurance and no tip. If I was charged 3.5 hours, you would have seen a tip for the people who actually helped all day.
Also — I paid your guys $ 490 — 4 hours at $ 115 ($ 460) + $ 30 for 2 certificates (since we worked out a discount prior to the move). If you only received $ 450, I cannot guarantee what happened to it in the time we paid to the time you received. Maybe your employees took the tip they deserved — would be smart on their part.

I can’t recommend these guys highly enough. My move was fairly low-​key — bed, couch, 1 – 2 end tables, and 10 – 11 boxes between 2 elevator buildings only a few blocks apart — yet the quotes I got from moving companies were absurd and way out of my budget. Got in touch with these guys after seeing the reviews and was quoted a very reasonable price that was much, much cheaper than other companies. I took the plunge and could not have been more pleased. Jason was very responsive and easily reachable by text or phone at any hour. The movers themselves were the real highlight though. Felix and Felipe were awesome — they arrived early, sized up my apartment with one look, and H-​U-​S-​T-​L-​E-​D. They had my stuff packed in their truck in under an hour. When we got to the building I was moving into, we were met with an unexpected curveball. Due to building regulatoins, they had to street park a half block away, unload all my stuff and carry it over to the freight elevator, take it down to the basement, walk along the entire length of the building, and take the elevator on the other side up to my apartment. Instead of hiking up the hourly rate (which would have been completely reasonable given how much more difficult this made the move) or complaining, they put their head down and simply got it done — the whole move took 3 hours flat. They were extremely nice and easy to talk to, but it was clear their priority was efficiency, not small-​talk, and I really appreciated that. Would 100% use them again and will recommend them to my friends without question.

My move went very well! Nothing was damaged and the guys were great. I am happy I chose Bubble Wrap. Jason was great setting up everything and got my building managers everything they needed. He could do a little better on time quoting — he said mine should take 2 – 3 hours and it took over 5. It took the guys 50 minutes to drive less than a mile (.7 to be exact). They could really research routes and parking beforehand to solve this issue. But those were my only complaints. All and all I’d use them again. Also they got a parking ticket and didn’t charge me for it. I’ve heard a lot of moving companies will do that so I appreciate that they didn’t.

After contacting several movers, BWM provided the best quote by far and also came recommended by a friend. Jason, the owner, was very responsive to my emails and calls and scheduling was very easy.
On moving day, the movers, Felix and Joel, called to tell me they could arrive earlier than scheduled (which I had preferred), so we’re already off to a great start. The entire move out and move in took under two hours even with bad traffic. Felix and Joel worked quickly and efficiently and were super friendly and professional.
Overall, I am very happy I chose BWM and would definitely use them again. Highly recommended!

Bubble Wrap Movers is the best! A coworker recommended them to me when I was having a tough time figuring out the best way to have a Craigslist wardrobe delivered from the Upper West Side to my apt in Bay Ridge. Jason was so nice to work with, very professional, and made me feel like he could handle any and everything. In fact he really did! All I had to do was give him the seller’s info and he worked out all the details, picked up the wardrobe (disassembled it first) then brought it to my apt and put it together for me! Pricing is extremely reasonable, in fact you won’t find a better price for all the efficiency he and his crew offer as well. I will be recommending this company to everyone! Couldn’t be happier with their service.

Great service. The owner is young and very driven. Came at the last minute for us and was totally on time. Honest and for a good price.

Jason is great to work with. He’s very quick to respond to any email question or text message. Really excellent communication skills. He and his team are professional, kind, and genuinely nice people to be around. They worked hard and were patient with my requests. Overall, they were terrific.

We used Bubble Wrap Movers to help us move from Upper West to a 4^th floor walk-​up in the lower east. We booked only about a week in advance and they were able to accomodate the exact date and time we wanted at a great price.
Felix and David showed up on time, were extremely efficient, professional and friendly. They even managed to get our heavy sleeper couch through the narrow stairway. Everything was wrapped well with no damage to any of our belongings.
Highly, highly recommend them and will definitely be using them next time I move (when will inevitable be next year, even though I’ve promised myself I will never be moving again).

These guys saved me on our move in day. We had a uhaul and were coming from Ohio. Definitely underestimated the difficulty of getting our stuff upstairs. I had called at least a half a dozen other movers that would not help without a ridiculous fee or waiting much later in the day. Needed someone last minute and they sent me two guys within the hour! They were awesome.
Professional, respectful and worked hard. Affordable too, much better deal than competing moving companies. Finished the job quickly. Couldn’t recommend more.

These guys were great. I set up the moving date a week in advance. They were right on time, worked professionally and quietly, and were careful with the furniture.
They were able to move very quickly. The job included disassembling and reassembling a bed, and moving all the contents of a typical bedroom.
No hidden charges, and they stuck to the quoted price. Overall, a great experience. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quick, efficient, and inexpensive move.

Wonderful! When I needed to move a couple floors within my building I was finding it impossible to find someone who wouldn’t charge me a 4 hour minimum and kept saying their price was what it was because it came with a truck I had no use for. I called and explained the situation to Jason and he immediately quoted me a customized rate and sent 2 great guys who showed up 10 minutes early ready to move! My apartment building had freight elevator problems and they continued working as I ran around trying to resolve it not to waste any time. I would absolutely recommend Bubble Wrap Movers for my your next move and will be using them again!

Very Good at their job, efficient, not expensive, amazing!
I hired them recently for my move with their Unilocal deal. They are really professionals, always respond immediately to phone calls/​texts, I gave them a short notice of 2 days and still they were able to help me out. They even helped me move my bulky couch and my 1 bedroom stuff was moved within 2 hours.
Don’t hesitate to hire them, I will definitely call them for my next move.

I want to thank Bubble Wrap Movers for one of the best moving experiences ever. There’re amazing and very professional.
They arrived on time my appt was for 10am and they arrived by 9:45am, started wrapping everything very careful and started bringing everything down. I also have a black and white table which is very fancy and delicate. I was really worried about that but they wrapped it for me and it arrived to my new house without a scratch.
They finshed everything in like 2 hours and I was so satisfied with everything. Jason is Awesome, I would definitely hire bubble wrap movers any day. Two thumbs up!

Three words… INEXPENSIVE, EFFICIENT, and PROFESSIONALS. These guys made the move so pleasant and enjoyable. They were AMAZING! I booked them for a third floor move out to a 5^th floor walk up. They wrapped my belongings well and everything was delivered in one piece. I’ve had really bad experiences with other moving company’s before (damaged belongings, very unprofessional), but this was the total opposite. The price quote I received was very reasonable, compared to others. They made it on time and finished the job before I expected.

After the incident, Jason contacted me and apologized for the horrible experience I had and offered to refund a portion of my moving cost when I used another company *if I removed my review.* I accepted the money and said I would amend my review as a result.
He said he was not around the day of the move because he had a personal emergency and his friend was in charge. While I sympathize with his situation, someone should have given me a new number to contact or updated me with the situation. But I definitely do appreciate that he reached out and offered some sort of monetary compensation and that he took full responsibility, even if it was just to get the reviews off the site. He contacted me right after to make sure I removed them and when I just added an update he was annoyed about it and asked again if I could just remove it. While he did make an effort to correct the situation, I prefer just to be honest about my experience so people can make an informed decision. There was another gentlemen before me who also had the same issue of no one showing up and I didn’t pay attention to it. I’d rather people knew that his experience wasn’t just a one time mistake. It happened again with me and I’m not sure who else.
Sooo, know what the risks are when hiring this company! Unfortunately I don’t think I will risk it again because its too unprofessional of an operation for me. I especially didn’t like the push for me to remove an honest review just because he paid me off. That money should have been offered just as compensation for my troubles, not as a bribe. I also just blocked his number because the conversation was getting tense as he was upset and I didn’t want to have it out over text. There’s just tooo much unprofessionalism going on! For me the issue is closed. I just want consumers to have all the facts and make an informed decision as a result.
*****An Added note, He just called me from another number and started SCREAMIMG AND ARGUING with me that I didn’t take down the review and just added an update. I clarified that I never agreed to take it down just that I’d review it, which I have. And everything I’ve stated is completely honest. He wouldn’t let me get a word in and was getting really rude so I hung up and now he is repeatedly calling me. I’m a bit concerned because this seems like harassment. It just shows the point more that this company is not to be messed with. Complete unprofessionals and now bullies to top it off!

DO NOT HESITATE, HIRE THEM! I have now moved over four times in my mere three years in the city, and, I have to tell you, it never went as quickly and seamlessly as it did with Jason and Felix from Bubble Wrap Movers.
I have to admit, I was a little hesitant to use a non-​corporate company at first (just from friends’ horror stories), but I relied on Unilocal reviews (which are usually pretty accurate) to reassure me that going for a local company was the smarter move. I did not regret it at all.
First of all, let me tell you, Jason (the owner/​manager) responds to calls/​texts/​etc very, very quickly and is extremely communicative for how busy he is. Whenever I had a question or problem, he was available within minutes to talk me through my concerns. Because of various circumstances, I wound up having to cancel my move on Jason twice before finally following through, and he was extremely flexible and gracious about letting me move the date around.
Jason and Felix showed up exactly at the appointed time and showed up ready to work. I know some people think that pay-​by-​the-​hour movers go slowly to extend their rate (that’s what some of the corp companies want you to believe), but both of them showed up to work. They don’t need to drag their feet to make money, they’re so popular that their whole day is booked and they need to get a move on!
They both helped finalize some packing issues, dealt with lots of stairs (I live in a 3 floor walk-​up, but it’s sort of a narrow, difficult staircase), and moved me all the way from MIDTOWN (ie Times Square) to Brooklyn. While they were fast, they made sure to wrap all my items appropriately, and nothing was even bumped, much less damaged.
Finally, they were just extremely good guys. They were both really smart, funny, and genuinely nice people. I love that Jason has started this business to help employ college students in need of some extra cash. I don’t know why you WOULDN’T want to support that cause by hiring these guys, especially since they’re significantly cheaper than the corporate alternative.
Bottom line: Punctual, affordable, quick, quality moving service provided by people who are interesting to talk to and who take pride in their work. Why would you ever go through the stress of moving yourself again? It’s seriously worth every. single. penny.
