Dumpling Man

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been here. The best are their pork dumplings. I went with friends yesterday just before close and we got pork, soup, and veggie dumplings. The veggie were a little dry inside this time and the soup dumplings didn’t really burst like you expect, not enough broth. Overall you can get homemade dumplings made in front of you here for a great price. Great spot, always a favorite.

I eat here a lot! Especially after coming back if I’ve been outa town for a few days, it’s like my comfort food!
Not the thinnest wrappers, but it’s tasty and satisfying. That’s all I need.

Just love this place for their delicious dumpling, for their late deals for their kindness.

I’m really starting to hate Unilocal,this place doesn’t need a 10 page review to explain it. They have good ass dumplings and they are priced well and take about 5 minutes from the time you order. This place is a win/​win in my book.

We went to try to soup dumplings, it really wasn’t as good as expected. Skin was way too thick. Wasn’t a great soup dumpling.

I was in the mood for a snack, so I headed to Dumpling Man. The shop is small, and there is very little seating. It is definitely place for you to get a quick bite and leave.
My cousin and I ordered the sampler and the soup dumplings. I thought the seared dumplings were far superior to the soup dumplings. I really enjoyed the pork dumplings and thought they were very good. The rest of the dumplings weren’t as great. I would only order the seared pork dumplings if I were to come again.
All in all, I felt that the dumplings were good but nothing special.

Let me start by saying that I am no dumpling expert like many seem to be who have posted reviews on the dumpling man. However… these dumplings were pretty damn good in my opinion. Located in a teeny establishment on st. Marks right near proletariat, the dumpling man served up a very nice assortment of dumplings that satisfied everything I was craving. The sampler came with a nice variety (pork, shrimp, chicken, veggie, and 2 extra of your choosing) for a very fair price. I got mine pan fried. Perfect. Not too doughy and packed with flavor. Next time I’m going to see if their soup dumplings live up to others I’ve had. Service was good but there can be a bit of a language barrier since fluent English was only spoken by the cashier. No problem by us, though. Dumpling man did us right. Will return.

Tucked into a little corner of St Mark’s place, Dumpling Man has a very small sitting area right by the kitchen. There’s a huge clear glass window so you get to see your dumplings being made. We had always visited during non-​peak periods, so there was hardly any people. We got ourselves seats with no problem.
During the times I was there I noticed some people come in to order take-​out, which is another option if they get busy. They have a cashier who speaks English, which is helpful since the rest of the kitchen staff are Chinese and hence language could be a barrier.
I’m not a vegetarian but to my pleasant surprise I love their vegetable dumpling specials the most. It’s the mix of mushrooms, glass noodles and other vegetables that gives those veggie dumplings a really nice texture. And I love them. Sauce wise they offer a soy-​based dip, too salty for my taste, plus I very much prefer the natural dumplings themselves.

ai yah, a bit of a bummer. was hoping for awesome soup dumplings, but the dough was so thick. flavor wasn’t quite right either. bao’s were ok.
service was really good, so that’s something! will try one more time, just to double check!

I was pretty excited, because I’ve heard such great things about this place, but «Meh. I’ve experienced better» was probably the best way to describe my meal here. The staff are nice and I really appreciate the hard work they put into making all of the dumplings, but I would only come here because it is one of the only dumpling joints in the area.
Doughy, meaty, and relatively flavorless were words that came to mind when I ate the 10-​piece seared pork dumplings. You could definitely get better for cheaper.

Very simple, very honest, very very good.
I walked in there, and 5 minutes later I was on my way with an order of 6 delicious, just crunchy enough and full of flavor pieces of fried dumplings. Yet another great addition to the great variety of Asian food shops on St. Marks!

Service was ok. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. The dude didn’t seem to know much about the menu and was less than enthusiastic when being asked questions.
As for the dumplings, they were quite bland. Although sizeable and nicely priced, the taste was certainly lacking. Not very authentic.
What got me to rate this place a 1 mostly is because of the soup dumplings. Soup dumplings are very special. They contain a mouthful of soup that’s carefully packed inside. So extra care must be taken so that the dumpling does not rupture before it is in your mouth. However these soup dumplings were served like the others, clumped together on that rectangular paper plate. Obviously when you go to pick them up, they stick together and inevitably rip open and release all the soup onto the plate, effectively making them a regular pork dumpling. Soup dumplings should always be served so that no 2 dumplings are touching each other.
I came here with great expectations, and left thoroughly disappointed.

Pros– The dumpling was soft and the broth inside was well-​seasoned. Their menu had some unusual items-​banana, pumpkin, and surprise dumplings.

I didn’t like This place very much. The service wasn’t good and the food was just average.
The dumplings tasted strange. Not fresh at all and the combination of corn with shrimp in one of the dumplings was off putting.
The soup dumplings were ok but nothing like Joe’s Shanghai. Perhaps it is because I was expecting a higher quality of food, but it didn’t meet my expectation. Honestly, With so many dumpling places around, I don’t think I will be returning to Dumpling man

A 5 for customer service & kindness, a 2 for the dumplings themselves.
Arrived right as Happy Hour began (3−5pm, $ 3.50 for 6 dumplings). The cashier told me if I helped him change the sign, we’d be the first to get the deal.
Ordered 6 chicken, 6 shrimp. They have an open viewing of the dumplings being made, and it’s fun to watch!
I asked if I could switch the chicken to pork (after seeing the pork dumplings being handmade) but it was too late. The sweet cashier told me I was still in for a treat.
When the dumplings were piping hot, and packaged up, he told me which dumplings were which.
He was kind, friendly, and the place seems like a family/​friend establishment.
The dumplings themselves were just OK. The chicken was better than the shrimp. I found only 1 mini shrimp in all 6 dumplings, and the addition of corn to the filling was too complicated and took up too much room. The shrimp dumplings were soggy & falling apart before I could even apply their homemade dumpling sauce (which is light & tangy, and you should try it.)
The chicken dumplings were more crispy, but still not enough flavor in my opinion.
I’d return during Happy Hour to try the veggie or pork dumplings, and give them another try.

For the love of dumplings, how… how can they make dumplings so incredibly awful?
(tried 3. had hopes for the pumpkin but even that was 1 star, the other 2 inedible)

Was pretty excited before coming here, as the name of the restaurant sounds as if they would make the best dumplings. However, I have definitely had better before. The steamed dumplings I ordered tasted half-​cooked and doughy, however, the seared ones my friend ordered were fine. There was also a lot of yelling I did not understand behind the counter where they make the dumplings in front of you. Made for a pretty nerve-​wracking experience.

Fan of the soup-​dumplings. Must-​have for this place.
The rest… Miami too but not at the same level of the soup ones.

The branding is cute. Basically just a bunch of smiling dumpling graphics. I tried the 4 piece sampler seared pork, chicken, beef, and veggie ($ 4.30). There were seared nicely. The filling was very cohesive and bit over salted. The wrapping was a bit thick and not cooked thorough. The white guy speaking Cantonese and Mandarin was impressive and friendly.

These are the best dumplings I’ve had. I’m used to the cheap, three for a dollar style dumplings. This took it to a new level, inside and out. I had the sampler, so I got to try the chicken, beef, and seafood. The fillings were well seasoned and generous, and the dough was the perfect texture. I had mine seared instead of steamed because I don’t like the rubbery steamed dumplings. But I’ll have to try them here, along with the soup dumplings.
Also, they have a huge LevelUp sticker on the window, but they do not accept it.
