I’ve been to a plethora of sushi restaurants but I’ve never been to one with a conveyor belt. It makes getting what i want so much faster and easier. There’s a large variety of sushi and dessert so there’s a little something for everyone. The beer isn’t water downed and fairly price. The atmosphere is relaxing and calming, a great place to relax after a hard day of work. The service was impeccable, in particular the server Ryuu was knowledgeable and very fast. I highly recommend this place and will be back soon!

Came here around 8pm on a Thursday evening. There was still a good amount of seats left by the belt, but the booths were full. If you’ve never tried a Sushi belt, I would recommend, as it’s a fun and unique experience. You can tell the price of the sushi you pick up from the color plate it’s on. I was a bit confused between some of the colors of the plate, especially pink and red, but maybe that’s just me since my friend didn’t seem to have trouble. The sushi didn’t taste as fresh as I’m used to, but still better than takeout sushi you usually get at lunch spots. We also ordered the mini udon and split it between two girls– was a good size to eat along with some sushi. We didn’t enjoy the grilled salmon neck though since it smelled extremely fishy once it came out. I probably wouldn’t return, as it was mostly for the experience.

This place is horrible. I ordered sushi and they told me it would take 1 hour. After an hour and a half I asked about it. And they have it to someone else! I sled for a refund and they couldn’t give me one. Horrible service.

I used to enjoy this place but their NYC sanitary ratings have declined, and it’s noticeable. A few months ago they had an «A Grade» sign posted in their window when, in fact, their grade was in «Pending» status. They had used an old, expired«A Grade» sign and concealed the inspection date with white-out. TOTALLYDECEPTIVE. I reported them to the Health Department and they eventually posted a «Grade Pending» sign. Their appeal period has expired, so now they have a grade of «B» — but, as of today, the«Pending Grade» sign remains in the window. Their current«B» grade stems from 26 violation points — this is only TWO points shy of a «C» grade! DISGUSTING. I don’t know about you, but I DEMAND an «A» grade from any raw seafood establishment I dine at. I wish, for these places, there was an «A+» grade! If you google«NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Restaurant Inspections» you should be able to find East — and the details on their current violation points as well as their past inspections(which usually were better). If you do a zip code search, you will see that 23 out of 29 Japanese restaurants in the 10016 area received«A» grades. I hope East management takes the proper sanitary steps to earn an «A» grade some day SOON. And then, I may return. NOTE: I suggest you read the review posted by Sam R. on 1÷23÷2016. His review makes sense in the context of the issues I’ve raised in my review. I hope he has fully recovered from his bout with what he believed was food poisoning.

Avoid this place at all costs unless: 1. You like your restaurants to smell like cat food 2. You want to eat fish that could have been pulled from the Hudson River last year 3. You like food poisoning 4. You like sitting in your house throwing up all day Their 50% off sushi is good for 100% off your health and well being and also they’re stopping it after January 31st. I’ve been to east before in NJ, and the set up is exactly the same(albeit the specials may differ amongst the chain). I can’t speak for the sushi, although one person in my party tried a couple dishes and said it was pretty decent. I was debating between giving 3 or 4 stars because I was so impressed with the lunch specials. You really get the biggest bang for your buck at east vs other Japanese/sushi restaurants in the area. All the bento boxes are around $ 10 and they give you a heaping amount of food! The udon/don sets are pretty good as well and are varied to suit everyone’s tastes. The only downside to this restaurant is that I couldn’t get used to the über strong smell of fish/seafood. It felt like I was walking down the seafood isle in hmart and that is NOT what I want to experience while eating my lunch. If I do return, I’ll definitely have to ask for a seat far away from the conveyor belt :(

I went with JJ for a midnight snack on a Saturday night because he assured me that I needed to see what conveyor belt sushi is all about. I love the concept of plucking the most appetizing dish off the belt and then chowing down – the immediacy was very rewarding. I also kept our finished plates organized by color so that we could *attempt* to keep an eye on our spending. The servers stayed out of our way, and I wish it had been easier to get water refills, but they were happy to help once we flagged them down and getting the check was a piece of cake. Sure, some of the sushi isn’t the freshest or the most tightly rolled, but you *cannot* beat the late-night price on Fridays and Saturdays(50% off all plates). Definitely worth a try if you’ve never seen this type of thing before.

I don’t know why I only gave East three stars in my original review. I guess I was being stingy, just because this place has conveyor belt sushi. I come to East on an almost weekly basis to take advantage of all of their weekly specials, especially white plate Wednesday and half-off after midnight on Friday and Saturday. East Japanese has great sushi, great specials and a fun atmosphere that makes it perfect for a group or a date. Head on upstairs to the karaōke bar to continue the fun!

I went in today with my coworker. And we got seated at the bar first. After the order was taken, we noticed there were two empty booths, so we went to one of the girls and asked if we could switched because the bar was kind of crowded, and she said yes. After few minutes, the waitor(mid-aged Asian guy) came with our order and yelling, «you can’t change seat!» He was literally YELLING at us for at least 10 seconds. I’ve never been so disrespected by anyone and he’s doing this to paid customers. We were so stunned at the time and didn’t know what to react. I’ve been to this restaurant for few years since college, but will never come back after today!!!

My group of 8 and I went into the restaurant yesteday at 11pm for half priced sushi. It was crowded and we had a huge group. They said it was going to be an hour wait. Understandable. 12:15am: our group gets hungry and we walk in to see how long our wait is now. Our host obviously completely forgets about us and said she will have to split us up. No problem. 1:15am: we are seeing the hostess put people to their table one after another, not making a table for us. We see an empty booth and demands she sits our group. She complied and gave us a booth. Half our group sat down. 1:30am: another booth opens up. Hostess seats another group. We ask why we weren’t seated. Her reply,“they came first.” No freaking way possible. She does not make any effort to remedy the situation. She just leaves when we get heated. 1:45am: she finally seats the rest of the group. Seating a group of 8 took 2 hrs 45 mins. Absolutely ridiculous. Food was good but the group was too busy being angry and hungry to enjoy the sushi. Not coming over again. They just lost a regular customer.

I called in to place an order. The person was really nice on the phone. When we came to pick up, the cashier was nice. Our food came in two huge platters and were placed really nicely. It looks really aesthetically pleasing and delectable. Sushi was good. Not the best but still good. We ordered way more than enough. Haha. But super cheap deal. The white plate Wednesday deal is $ 1.5 for a lot of good choices.

Decent sushi at an OK price. This is one of the only conveyor belt sushi places that I know of in New York, and it’s worth it to come here once just for that. This place has a cool atmosphere and decent service as well. The food on the belt here is priced by color. Be sure to keep tabs on how much you’re eating, as it can add up pretty quickly if you’re not careful. Come here for the experience. But once the novelty of the conveyor belt fun wears off, this is just another average sushi place.

This place is okay for a quick sushi fix. They have different specials depending on what day of the week it is. On Sundays and Mondays, there is a special on shrimp and crab, on Tuesdays, there is a special on all salmon plates, on Wednesday, all white plates are priced at $ 1.50, Thursday is their tuna special, and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00PM — 3:00AM, all sushi and rolls are 50% off. It’s great that they’re opened until 3:00AM because I hate when I have late sushi cravings and many restaurants are closed at 11:00PM or midnight. I decided to try this place with my boyfriend because we never experienced eating sushi from a conveyor belt before. I loved the feeling of just seeing something I want and to be able to grab it for myself instead of waiting for a server to take my order. Thank goodness I did not need to wait for a server to put in my order, because service is pretty slow. However, if there is something on the menu that you want and cannot get from the conveyor belt, you would have to flag down a server to order it. Quality wise, the sushi is not the best, but it’s okay. The chefs don’t make the sushi themselves, there is a machine that has the rice prepared in oblong shapes, then the chefs put the slices of fish on top. Therefore, the sushi isn’t really well made, when I pick it up with chopsticks, the rice comes apart. The fish also does not taste the freshest. I’m pretty sure a lot of people come here just for the experience.

This is the best place to be for a quick bite of sushi. The conveyor belt alway has sushi and some appetizer items moving around the room. If you don’t see what you like on the belt, you can order it off the menu and they will bring it to you. If you have a crazy craving at midnight for some japanese food, this place can satisfy that need! They are opened til 3am. And I especially love coming here on a friday and Saturday late late night, because they offer 50% off all sushi 11p — 3am :). The staff here is friendly and the food is clean. The sushi is mediocre so don’t come in here expecting a sushi changing experience. They offer a variety of Japanese food such as sushi, rice bowl, curry, noodle, yakitori, and etc. My favorite item is the salmon lover roll and fried squid legs. Least favorite would probably be their waffle icecream dessert, the chocolate syrup was bitter and the waffle is a shell, not something freshly baked.

This conveyor belt sushi restaurant is a nice lunch spot. The sushi is pretty good and it reminded me of my visit to Japan. i loved the eel and other fish. Must be the only conveyor belt restaurant in manhattan.

It’s my first time at this restaurant but it wasn’t very good experience. The server was rude. The udon I got was very salty and my friend got the bento box which had uncooked stuff. The California roll and the drink was the only thing I liked. And I also liked the cheese cake I think the sushi is the stuff to get here.

Unfortunately the only Kaiten Sushi I could find in NYC. There was not much variety available, and the sushi was mediocre at best. In addition to several plates of sushi, I had one of the mini ramen bowls which had the same lackluster taste as the sushi. I was looking forward to this restaurant and it turned out to be a disappointment.

For the price and for the conveyor belt — it’s worth it. For the quality, maybe not. I didn’t get sick though, but I probably had a very good portion, splitting the check at about $ 12 per person. The conveyor belt is really cool, really good for hanging out with a friend while eating and not having to wait for your order to be taken, prepared, and placed in front of you. This is quick and easy — a good variety, although after the lunch rush, there isn’t much variety. Each plate is color-coded with price labeled on the table. The waiter counts the dishes, thus counting the price. It doesn’t really add up quickly. Plus, the quality isn’t superb, but sushi is sushi and it’s a nice experience.

* Conveyor belt sushi * Friday & Saturdays from 11pm to 3 am — 50% off all sushi No sashimi, everything comes with rice You can order off the menu if what you want isn’t on the conveyor belt(this is convenient) Wasabi and ginger is found right on the table Essentially, good cheap late night eats if you’re in the area and want to get a filling meal I came with a party of 11 and the waitress was nice enough to individually split all of our bills so we could all pay separately; she said this is only possible if the restaurant isn’t super busy.

Mediocre at best. Seating: Sushi bar seats in the back & booths in front. I wouldn’t recommend coming here in a large group because you definitely won’t be able to sit all together. We were a group of 7 and tightly squeezed 3 on each side of a booth and one person on the end on a bar stool. Not a very comfortable seating situation. Tuesday is Salmon Tuesday. All salmon dishes are 50% off. If you don’t like salmon, I would not recommend coming here. Yes, you can still order from the menu, but most of the items on conveyor belt is salmon. Salmon, salmon, salmon! Conveyor Belt: small plates of sushi travel along a conveyor belt. You just grab the dish that you want to eat off the conveyor belt. The concept is pretty cool. If you want to keep track of how much you are spending, you need to look at the color’/design of the plates. Each plate symbolizes a different price. It definitely adds up as people just grabs dishes to the table, so be careful! Sushi: the quality of the sushi was Meh to OK. The service was Meh to OK. Overall, the conveyor belt was cool, but not cool enough where I would come back for the sushi.
