History

Established in 1988.

Fabrizio Fiumicelli founded the original Laicale in Italy; in 1999, he partnered with New York stylist Simone Saint Laurent to open this branch (as well as one in Osaka, Japan). The salon offers stellar cut and color services for women and men — in addition to blowouts, styling, Brazilian Keratin Treatments, and a head massage with every shampoo – but the real focus is on form, function, and healthy tresses. A destination for so-​called «regular» New Yorkers – be it pretty-​boy rock stars or corporate squares – the salon’s stylists strive to create ‘dos that fit the individual. A house line of natural, animal-​friendly shampoos, conditioners, masks, and styling products enables customers to recreate their expertly coiffed looks at home. –

I had an okay experience here. The shampoo and head massage was mediocre, the shampooer was obviously not into her job that day. I waited 30 minutes for my haircut and no one offered me a drink or anything while waiting. Normally at a place you pay $ 100+ for a haircut they will offer you a wine but I was only offered water after I asked if I would have to wait much longer. I liked the haircut ok but overall not the best experience.

Last Tuesday was my first time at LAICALE and it was a great experience!
Kevyn gave me one of the best haircuts I have ever gotten here in NYC and I have lived here for 14 years!

Laicale is so-​so thus far. Though to be fair to them, I’ve only had 2 haircuts by one stylist (Kevyn). He does a really good job with the top but doesn’t know what to do with the sides or my neckline. I decided to give this place one more try and get my hair styled by the owner, Fabrizio. If he doesn’t give me an amazing $ 120 men’s haircut at his own salon, I don’t know who will?! I’ll report back, hopefully with 5 stars ;-)

My experience on my last visit with Faisal was quite satisfactory. The service overall was great. He answered my concerns about my hear condition and what to do. The rest of the team was also very nice. I have been coming to the salon for a few years now, and it has never disappointed. I would give a 10.

I am pleased to say that I always thoroughly enjoy my experience at Laicale.
The customer service from the time I enter the salon, to the time I leave is excellent.
Honestly, I have come to expect poor or adequate service from most businesses, but the staff at Laicale are very professional, attentive warm and friendly.
I never would have started coming to Laicale had it not been for my friend’s recommendation. I had passed by the salon many times before, but felt that the salon was a bit cold in appearance and a little intimidating.
Emiliano is great.
I really like the way he cuts my hair.
He is the most attentive stylist that I have ever been to.
He is constantly brushing the cut hairs off of me, he is very detailed, professional and always on time.
The shampoo massages are one of my favorite parts as well.
I also really like the type of music that is played in the salon.
Although you would not find any of that music in my personal library, I feel it is perfect for the salon’s décor and lends an edgy vibe to the atmosphere.
My only complaint is that I hate the hand dryers in the restroom, but at the same time, I do understand the need to reduce waste and expense.

Full disclosure: After a tragic hair cut ten years ago in Brooklyn I don’t allow ANYONE else to touch my hair except Kevyn who I’ve been going to since said tragic cut. I followed him to Laicale when he moved from another salon and though I’ve since moved abroad I was recently in town and back in his chair. He’s beyond amazing and the salon itself is cool, spotless, and the rest of the staff is super friendly. They also have a great selection of products. If you are looking for a new place to try look no further and get an appointment with Kevyn if you can– he is beyond amazing.

Robert has been my stylist for over 18 months and he is wonderful — one of the best that i have found in 20 years of living in NYC! I give your operations overall experience to guests and Robert’s expertise a 10 out of 10. As professional NY-​er can account for, it is rare to find a stylist who really cares and has the talent to back it up. It is equally rare to find a stylist and staff and overall experience that can make you have a smile on your face, even on a chaotic NY day. This takes the collision of talent, service, and rapport. It is nice to have finally found this in this salon and Robert!

My 2 daughters and I have been clients of Takako at Laicale for many years. I am there almost every 3 weeks.
I am completely happy with her abilities. I always leave there satisfied that my color and cut are perfect. She maintains my color so that it always looks it’s best not just after big appointments. I really like that she does both my color and cut.
The salon is also a professional environment. The people in general are pleasant and welcoming which makes for good service. The vibe is hip and active but not frenetic.
I guess I don’t really have any criticisms for you.
I’d say based on a scale of 1 – 10 I’ll say 10.

I love Laicale. I think I started seeing Fabrizio for haircuts, at least 10 years ago… (Wow)
And shortly after Emiliano joined the team, I began seeing him for my color.
In a past life I worked for Toni and Guy… As a Salon Coordinator.
That experience gives me a keen awareness about all things required to provide a seamless experience for the client.
In all my visits to Laicale, I have NEVER been made to wait. I have never been made aware of scheduling «issues», or my stylists being overwhelmed, or double booked, or any other kind of «drama». Truly, this alone is an incredible example of the professionalism and care that is taken by everyone on the team. But it is not the only thing…
I enjoy the familiar faces, and that everyone greets me by name. I am able to «chat» if I wish, or sit in the chair and work, or just be quiet. I am never bothered, and am always comfortable.
I am constantly impressed and pleased with the results of my appointments… and am regularly asked by strangers, «who does your hair?»
I always respond accordingly and even give directions, or write it down when I can…
I am honestly completely smitten. :)

I followed Kevyn to this salon (he used to work at Rare, now called FS Charlie). He is a very talented stylist with a great hand for cutting hair. I’m incredibly particular about my hair cut and style; I have Lebanese curly thick hair and I swear only Kevyn knows how to cut and blow it the way I like. Check him out — you won’t be disappointed.

Cool atmosphere, but people are down to Earth and nice.
I have Fabrizio cut my hair, and he’s given me the best haircuts I have ever had in my life. Best part is coming in with a handful of adjectives (sexy, androgynous, edgy) and letting him create the hair from there.
Highly recommended. A bit pricey, but self care should always be indulgent.

Just started going to this salon because my longtime stylist Kevyn moved here from another salon. So far I’m enjoying it! The décor is very contemporary and clean. The staff is young and hip (I’m not hip but aspire to be). High quality shampoos and conditioners. And they have their own line of products, which I may test out soon. I also love that they do bang trims for free in between haircuts. The location is great too. Gives me a good excuse to go shopping in Soho after my hair appointment!
Kevyn is the best! I’ve been seeing him for almost 4 years. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my hair. He does both cuts and color. I get bored with my hair so Kevyn and I have tried all different styles and colors. I’ve even trusted him enough to go bleach blond twice (from dark brown) and bright red highlights. We have a blast coming up with new ideas and he always knows what I’m going for and takes it to the next level. I highly recommend him.

If you are a blonde, or want to become one you MUST come to Laicale and ask for MARISSA. This is the 3rd salon I’ve followed her to over the past 6 years. She is my hair-​savior. For real lol! When I first came to her, my hair was damaged, had broken bits, my blonde colouring was uneven… it was kind of a mess. Marissa has since changed all of that and now my blonde hair is long, shiny, and most importantly healthy. Oh and did I mention I was asian? With natural black hair! She works her magic, to say the least.
Anyway, the salon itself is beautiful with lofty high ceilings and Keith always takes care of me with a nice cup of hot tea and a chocolate. When you come here, make sure he washes your hair! It feels amazing: D

Came across this place as it’s right across the street from my culinary school, I desperately needed a blow out for an event that night but I did not have an appointment!
Thank god for Laicale that they managed to fit me in for a last minute wash+blow. The stylist they put me with, Jenny, was absolutely WONDERFUL (!!!); I feel like I’ve made a lifelong partner for my hair!
She understood what I wanted (Volume+Wide Curls only on the bottom of my hair) and delivered quickly as I had a time limit. Her assistant that day, Christina, was also a pleasure to have.
Because of my great experience I actually came back to get my hair colored by Jenny and came out with a wonderful dye job. I originally had dark brown hair with some streaky blonde highlights (they are no longer in trend) and was looking to lighten my hair for the upcoming spring/​summer.
Jenny was attentive and absolutely delivered on everything I wanted. She also worked to ensure that my hair would come out looking healthy and is honest about what she thinks would be best for my hair! Best thing about all of it is that I also had a time limit that night. But even with that she got everything perfect :)
If there is anyone you should go to at Laicale for a quick blow out and great hair color go to Jenny!!!

I started going to Laicale when Drew moved here. As always, he performs magic on my hair. The salon itself is very chic and as others said, they do pay attention to details. From the cute piece of chocolate with complimentary tea to always have pens & tip envelopes available at the register.
