Once again, Morrell and Co did not disappoint! This is one of my absolute favorite places to spend an afternoon eating and tasting wine. Daniel at the bar was extremely attentive and offered superb pairings and recommendations. Well done!

I walked in with a friend and felt immediately prejudged. When we asked if they had a bottle of liquor, the man behind the counter immediately said no. As we continued to look at the wall behind him, he again, hastily said no with an attitude in his voice, hinting that we should leave. If a person is going into a store with the intent to buy something, the last thing a store worker should be is rude. I work in the building next to this shop, looking to get a coworker a gift. This is not how businesses in the same area should treat each other. Very disappointed.

Sold me a bad bottle of wine — Molettieri Taurasi Cinque Querce $ 39.00 bottle that had turned nearly to vinegar. Questionable where they’re getting their product from and how it’s being transported. $ 39.00 for a bottle of wine that got thrown in the trash is absolutely unacceptable. Adding insult to injury, the sales clerk assured me this was a great bottle, very comparable to the bottle I had been looking for. Not hardly. Can’t rely on this place, and would be mortified to give a bad bottle to host or friend as a gift.

Friendly workers. I knew what I wanted, I was approached and got helped within minutes. The staff even offered to help me with the door. I only brought 2 bottles of champagne. Good service!

We went to New York this past week for vacation and made sure to stop at Morrell and Company wine shop because I new that they would have at least one or two bottles we could not find in Houston. We looked around for about 20 minutes and we watched as six different people came in and the staff helped each one of them. They ask them if they could find a bottle for them, if they wanted another vintage, made suggestions and treated them somewhat friendly. They not only ignored us but even bumped into me as they helped one of the customers. We found two bottles we wanted to buy… a Martinelli Jackass Vineyard and a Shafer for a total of what would have been about a $ 200 + sale. We decided that we could do without them and said to each other they could go blank themselves. As we left and were almost out the door one of the asshole employees actually had the nerve to ask me if we needed some help. I told them they had the last 20 minutes to help us and that they had ignored us and helped 6 other people. They had a look of astonishment on there faces as if to say I can’t believe you just told me that. I had all of the employees and the other customer in the stores attention by now. I told them they could keep there wine and go blank themselves and we walked out. I guess they thought that since we had cameras and a couple of bags that we were just looky loo tourists who didn’t know crap about wine and were not going to purchase any. Well, they were wrong. If I had to only purchase wine from there jerks I would start drinking Coke again !!!

My associates in the NYC area love this store, so I’ve begun calling Morrell and ordering gifts over the phone. The experience is top-​notch all the way: pleasant and knowledgeable representatives help with every question I have, even shipping, and offer a great selection. It seems too often that customer service is a dying art, so I’m giving Morrell 5 stars quite simply for the level of service they’ve offered me. I’m completely happy and will continue to shop with them.

Nice wine shop with a good selection.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, and don’t mind if you mosey around and stare at the assortment of first growths and grand crus they have on stock.
Even if I am just in there killing time waiting for my wife to get out of the office and not making a purchase they will chat wine with you. There is a reason Morell is one of the only successful midtown wine shops.
Sherry-​Lehmann should hire them to consult on customer service!

I’m writing an update because I think they deserve it. The GM contacted me apologizing for my less than stellar experience and gave me his direct email so that he could personally help me in the future, he even offered to show me around the old and rare room! I’m not a grudge holder and anyone that takes the time to right a wrong is A OK in my book, I’m definitely giving them another chance.

I work in the area, and Morrell is pretty much the best wine shop in sight. Great wine selection and they’re also very knowledgeable if you ask them for recommendations.

After the remodel, I walked in to find a new look and less customer service. No one asked me if I needed help. I noticed the bottles are now considerably more expensive. No more Château Cadillac or anything under 35. In fact, most of the bottles I saw were in the 84 dollar range. It is no longer what I would call ‘moderately priced.’ It feels and looks like a wine store for the One Percenters – what a disappointment.

I was very pleased with their customer service. I asked for an inexpensive sparkling wine and got 2 bottles. It was very good for the price. I noticed that their prices were very good comparing to the other stores in this pricey neighborhood. Will come back again.

Placed a website order with expedited shipping. A whole four days after I placed the order, I received a call from an employee who told me they hadn’t even started processing my order because they hadn’t noticed that I had paid for expedited shipping. This left me in a terrible spot because not only could they not get me my order in time, I now could not even order from another vendor to get my product in time.
It’s shocking enough that this store believes four days is an appropriate delay to begin processing an order. But what was so galling about this is that at no time was any apology made. Not even a simple «sorry» was uttered, much less any attempt to rectify the situation or make it better — when I told them to cancel, they just hung up. Very unprofessional and certainly not worth any customer’s time.

DON’T ORDER FUTURES!
I ordered a case of wine through Morrell’s website — an ’09 Bordeaux future that was to ship by summer of 2012. I thought it might be nice to have on hand for the holidays. Summer came and went, as did fall. In November I followed up with them — it was to ship out «shortly.» It is now February, almost a year since I ordered — and PAID FOR — this wine; it is available elsewhere in abundance (for the same or less $ than I paid), but not a peep from Morrell, even with repeated emails. I have ordered futures from numerous other vendors before — WineLibrary, B-​21 in Florida, SherryLehman, etc. — this is by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had. So, beware, «futures» with them may mean «whenever» or …“never”!

My boss ordered a very nice bottle of champagne to give to her boss for the holidays. We work 2 blocks from the store and they couldn’t seem to deliver it to us in a timely matter nor tell us when it would come. After numerous hang ups and waiting on hold we were able to cancel the previous order and go pick one up in the store. I went to get the bottle and the sales woman told very matter of factly that it had already been picked up. This was not the case because I was the only person who knew about it. Turns out she gave my bottle to someone else and made it seem like it was my fault for her mistake. They were thankfully able to get me a new bottle in about ten minutes but I could here the woman bitching about the whole thing for these ten minutes. When she finally handed me the bottle there was no apology which is all I wanted after waiting 30 minutes. I do understand that they were super busy with the holidays but just a sorry will do. Mistakes happen.
I will say they do have a great selection of wine at varied prices. Not sure if I will go back to enjoy them.

Oh Morrell, I did not think you would pull a bait and switch on me but you did. I subscribed to their email newsletters (not anymore) and received an email regarding a «Robert Parker 92 – 94 point 2010 Domaine de Bila-​Haut de Roussillon Villages, Chapoutier». I called them and asked if they had the bottle in stock, SPECIFICALLY the one in the email, the 2010. The manager said yes, and I asked him to put two aside for me. I went in that afternoon, they were ready in a bag for pick up and I paid and left. I put one in my cellar and gave the other to a friend as a Father’s Day gift. My friend asked if I can check the bottle I have because after he drank it and finding it did not taste like a 92 – 94 RP, he noticed that the bottle was a 2009. I checked mine and low and behold, I was sold two 2009 bottles instead of the advertised 2010. Sad to see a «reputable» store do this. I will not be returning here again, there are plenty of places for me to get my wine, no need to come back. I would avoid.

Morrell Wine Store gets a strong 3.5 from me. Since the wine I bought yesterday was very impressive, I’m happy to round up.
While the available variety wasn’t overwhelming, I appreciated that they had varying price levels for each varietal. For example, yesterday I stopped in for a Red Zinfandel from Sonoma. The very helpful staff pointed out a bottle in the $ 15 range, a bottle in the $ 30 range and a bottle in the $ 60 range. Maybe, given the Rockefeller Center locale, I expected more exclusionary pricing. But, you can walk out with an affordable and tasty bottle of wine in an otherwise pricey neighborhood.
As previously mentioned, the staff is very eager to help and can speak in depth about the selection. I love this minutia, so I enjoyed their insight.

Cute spot with a good size selection. Been here twice already, once not so helpful and the other very helpful. It’s right across the street from Rockefeller Center and surprised there isn’t more reviews. I like that they carry wines in every price point $ 10+. Quite surprising given the location. They have a Wine bar and Café right next door. There was plenty of outdoor seating to people watch with all the chaos on the sidewalk.

Excellent selection of wine and liquors. The staff is very helpful, too! From time to time, they have liquor and wine tastings for free!

Great selection, the help is a little too geeky for me (to the point of being pushy and obnoxious), and well organized.
They do have some harder to find vintages and they are able to get just about anything.

More of a 3.5. And this is really a review of their wine classes, since I don’t find myself searching for wine in Midtown very often.
I went to the beginners class awhile back, and it was really interesting. They provided small tasting-​sized pours, along with a selection of Murray’s cheeses and sliced baguette I’ve been to quite a few classes at restaurants and other venues before, but this was the first that first that was really «serious», including the oddly quiet group of 15 or so tasters – just the occasional «can you pass the cheese?» to break the silence. Very knowledgeable instructor, good hints and tips, and answers to the really basic and/​or stupid questions (Is there really other kinds of fruit in «fruity» tasting wines?).
I ended up getting a case of wine – there were some really good ones in the tasting that were hard to pass up, including their own Invictus label. I think they only offer case discounts when you attend the class, so that was definitely worthwhile. The case was delivered as scheduled, and I got an email from the instructor with my receipt, thanking me for the purchase.
Overall a good experience, but as the other reviewers have said… reallllly expensive.
