These guys are the best… cowboy steaks, pork chops, …sausage…its all delicious, high quality and prepared with such care and personal service…; there’s no place like it. We don’t buy supermarket meat any longer…

I have been here 3 times and got dry aged rib eye on every time I went this place as that’s my favorite part of meat. My expectation was very high since I’ve seen lots of good reviews from many people, and still it was totally over my expectation for the first purchase. Quality of meat was really great and me and my friends, all of us enjoyed this marvelous meat at BBQ party.
On the other hand, 2^nd time was little frustrating. I decided to buy thicker cut for that time and it was about 1.5 inch cut. Price came out around $ 28 per one slice. I was super excited on that night as I already have tasted their meat once; however, sadly, meat was full of gristle this time, which wasn’t really eatable. If this thing happens in the restaurant, I would obviously ask for another dish or refund, yet I was little confused what to do with the meat that I bought from them since it was a steak that I cooked. I made my decision to call the shop and called the shop, spoke to some gentleman name Jerry. He said come visit their place after holidays then he will find what he can do for me.
I visited them 2 weeks after holiday and I was glad that Jerry remembered about conversation we had before Christmas. He gave me a slide for free. Thank you for kind gesture! Just to mention, I was really impressed how they cut the slice very nicely by removing all the fats from meat but it was kinda rough this time. He just cut the meat and handed it to me. I mean. it’s free stuff so I shouldn’t’ be picky on this… right? I still satisfied what he did but there was no impression at this time. Funny part is that meat wasn’t really impressive compare to first time too.
I am sure I will try them again. I still cannot forget the quality of meat that I got from them at the first time — it was remarkable!

Wow. This place is a classic, fantastic butcher shop. The men at the counter could not be more knowledgeable, yet so humble and friendly. You can tell they understand that customer service goes a long way, and value not just the regulars, but anybody looking for their help. Price very reasonable. It’s just a great experience coming here, to get away from the new trendy places where they up charge you without knowing why or what they’re doing, and be able to feel like you’re in a real butcher shop with real old school butchers who still got it. I will definitely be back.

My husband and I loved to get our meat here when we lived in the West Village. We moved to Maui and while the view is great, I miss our butchers. It’s run by the nicest family who really made the service personal. Plus, they’re cheaper and way better quality than any of the local supermarkets.

Excellent selection of meats, specialty items, dry aged and at a fair price. The people that work there will cut to order. I feel like this place has been in the family for over a hundred years…
It’s small and smells kinda funny but is worth the time and money.

I don’t know what took me so long to discover Ottomanelli’s here on Bleecker, but what makes the place is Jerry and Frank’s service and care about offering great meat! You can have total faith to put yourself in their hands. The place is an old world butcher shop. Tthey know what they are doing, will give it to you straight. Importantly, the prices are fair which is something I’ve had to worry about at another local butcher on Hudson as of late.
Also they accept all credit cards now.

We found this place when we were randomly talking to a Ukrainian lady who lives in the neighborhood. Apparently this place goes by Belinsky’s rather than Ottomanelli among old-​time locals. I’m half Ukrainian, so I was looking for a place to satisfy my sausage and poppyseed bread cravings. I was excited to find the meats and breads that I grew up with. Not just any sausage but kabanos, the skinny smoked sausage that my family always ate as we walked out of the butcher’s since it’s already cooked. They also were selling 2 varieties of poppyseed bread, which was very tasty, although a bit pricey at about $ 6.50 a pop. I did not buy the babka, but I was also very happy to see that.
Next time I’m in New York, I plan to visit again.

I’ve been to Ottomanelli’s many times over the years I’ve lived in NYC, and I can say that they never fail to impress. It’s an old-​school shop that’s been around for over a century, and they have pretty much any kind of meat, as well as any cut of meat. The guys behind the counter are very friendly — they love chatting with long-​time customers who always come back to the shop — but they also know their stuff. Even if you’re looking for something a bit out of left field, they will be up to the task. One time, we needed several pounds of chicken bones to make a hearty broth with — and Ottomanelli’s is probably the only place I can think of that would be able to supply you with upwards of 5 bounds of chicken bones (without the meat) on the spot. If you’re in a more exotic mood, they have meats like kangaroo and ostrich that you get your hands on.
The shop itself isn’t huge, and it can get cozy (and very busy, especially around the holidays), but if there’s one place in the city you can count on to get any kind of meat — and high quality at that — this is by far and away the #1 all-​around butcher shop in Manhattan.

I walk here from Union Square after work ~once a week. it’s a legitamite, old school butcher shop. the guys behind the counter wear hardhats and safety goggles, to let you know they really are back there cutting meat. It’s one of those «nobody does it like this anymore» places. For those who like to know that the guys you buy from know their product, just ask them. They know where their meats come from and have longstanding relationships with their farms and suppliers. great selection of grass-​fed beef, at very reasonable prices. fresh sliced, thick cut bacon to die for! all types of game meat that I will probably never buy. I’m a simple guy when it comes to meat, and this is simply THE place to get it.

Good service, friendly and knowledgable staff, and decent price for high quality meat. I explained what i was looking for and got everything and more. I don’t think I will ever buy meat from my local store anymore.

Unfortunately «cash only» comes with the territory. I came in one day not knowing which type of meat to go with for a certain recipe. Sweet, spicy, smokey? An amiable elderly man assisted me with picking the perfect meat. I felt confident leaving and ready to cook, that is the result of great service. Anyone can recommend a product, but sometimes you just feel obligated to take it, or assume they know what they’re talking about. It’s another story actually feeling good about choosing something you weren’t sure about before.
By the way the sweet Italian sausage was exactly what I needed for my recipe. I’d trust them for my future culinary experiments.

Coming here takes me back to a time before I was born. It’s such an authentic place with little artifacts from throughout its history hung on the walls. There’s no decorative curating going on here: just an excellent, neighborhood butcher shop.
First time I walked in I asked the gentleman behind the counter if he had any game meat. Without missing a beat, in a tone that said «this must be your first time, kid,» he starts rattling off the options… boar, pheasant, alligator, kangaroo… OK, OK I get it, you have everything. My mistake. So now the hard part. What to get? I usually go for a dry-​aged steak or a pork chop.
The meat is always top quality and the experience itself is worth it. Before supermarkets, before gentrification, there were places like Ottomanelli’s. Coming here is a great way to feel connected to the neighborhood and to buy the perfect protein for your next meal.

The ONLY place to get great quality, fresh meat downtown. I’ve always got good cuts from these guys and they really know what they are talking about. The place can get busy on the weekends, but they move fast so there’s never too long of a line. If I ever move out of NY, I will seriously miss this neighborhood staple.

Travel far just for this place. Love the guys, love the vibe and most of all, LOVE the meat. Great quality and a good bang for your buck. If you don’t see something in their display case, ask them what you’re looking for. I guarantee they have it in the back. One of the brothers can be a bit cranky but don’t let this bother you, ha.

If you’ve been getting meat (especially steak) from a supermarket, you have to come here at least once. Just once. And then you’ll be cursing at yourself for eating substandard meat your entire life.
They have a wide variety of meats (bison, anyone?), but the boneless ribeye I got was amazing. It was more flavorful and tender than the USDA Prime boneless ribeye I get from a supermarket. It was barely more expensive than the price at my local supermarket, but it is dry-​aged and cut to order. Try getting similarly dry-​aged beef at Whole Foods and you’ll probably pay $ 5 – 10 more per pound.
If you have friends who don’t like meat, pop an Ottomanelli’s steak on a grill with salt and pepper and serve medium to medium rare. Guaranteed to cure their vegetarianism.
(I kid, I kid. But seriously. Try it.)

I was wandering aimlessly before seeing this place and had a good feeling about it. Low key, straightforward advertising and ambiguous storefront? I’m down. I’d heard of Ottomanelli before and was interested in pricing their venison as I can get it cheap independently. They also sell Kangaroo and Bison which is always interesting.
It’s run by a bunch of older, career butchers who know the craft and one friendly gentleman behind the counter asked what line of work I was in, because I looked like a butcher. Granted it was probably because I was covered in blood and holding a knife, but still nice that he mentioned it.
