Sushi Ren

I have ordered 3 times from sushi ren. Rolls are ok, but have a large cut. I prefer them more delicately presented. The spicy salmon crunch was good, but was zero crunchy. They deliver super fast and food arrives very well packed and impecable.

The best sushi restaurant in NYC. Especially their spicy girl roll. Must try, at least once.

Can I just say the lychee martini is out of this world? Service has always been great, the food was delicious, and everything for a lovely price. Would definitely recommend! :)

I agree with Larissa G. This place is a gem. The speciality rolls are delicious with generous amounts of fresh fish and minimal rice. The peppered tuna, shishito peppers, negamaki, and tartare are all a must! If you’re not into rice, try their delectable naruto rolls. Aside from all of the mouthwatering sushi, the décor is welcoming and the staff is super friendly. If you can’t tell by now, yes I’m a regular :)

I ordered tuna tartare and 2 rolls. The tartare was a bland, mushy, giant pile that was way too dry and had a garnish of Pringles! Wtf?
The 2 rolls came and the whole plate stunk of some kind of detergent and looked like it was still dirty. The only thing good I can say is that they didn’t charge me for the rolls when I complained. I never send anything back when I go out, but this was just too gross

This place is a hidden treasure in Upper East Side and some of the best made, freshest sushi I’ve had in NYC. They also have great cocktails and if you’re a sangria fan the SHISO SANGRIA is a must have, and it’s strong! Tucked behind some barriers of the 2^nd ave subway construction, Sushi Ren gets much less traffic than it deserves. Luckly I live a block away from it! It may look a little unassuming and doesn’t have many reviews, but don’t let this deter you from trying it out.
The rolls are STUFFED with fish to the point the seaweed doesn’t touch closed and theres a 1 – 2 grain of rice row around the sushi. They make a a «more fish less rice» kind of roll. They have the usual salmon/​tuna/​whitefish/​California etc rolls but the quality of their ingredients is higher than the usual run of the mill city sushi spot. I’m an eel addict and their eel rolls have a respectable chunk of eel in them whereas most places have a speckle of eel and a lot of cucumber. Their specialty rolls are also delicious.
The restaurant is clean and the décor is classy, nice ambiance. I sometimes sit at the sushi bar and chat with the chefs who previously worked at Tenzen which I guess is a sister restaurant. This is one of my regular spots in UES.

Ordered take-​out from here and it was not anything to write home about. Fish didn’t taste very fresh and they messed up part of my order.
Needless to say, I will not be ordering from Sushi Ren again.

The hubby and I were trolling the hood for a decent but not too heavy lunch. I had a hankering for sushi but I am super picky about where I indulge. The hubby and some of his buds had a yummy and reasonably priced lunch at Sushi Ren a few weeks back and he threw that out as an option. So glad he did!!!
The restaurant is very open and clean looking — absolutely no fishy smell. The waiter who greeted us at the door was super nice. He showed us to our table and took our beverage order very quickly.
We took advantage of their lunch special — 3 roles for around $ 12 (give or take a buck or 2) which comes with soup or salad. We opted for salad.
The sushi rolls were terrific! I opted for all fish rolls (tuna and scallion, spicy tuna and eel) — veggie rolls are not sushi IMHO! The fish was very fresh and delicious.
They also have some unique roll options. The hubby had a peanut butter and avocado roll, which made me shout «SACRILEGE!!» Both the hubby and the waiter assured me it was quite delicious. When I tasted 1 (or 2) pieces of his roll, it really was very tasty.
The service is terrific. Our waiter went above and beyond for us. Our green tea cup never went empty.
I would definitely recommend Sushi Ren and would come back.

Great spot for casual sushi dinner. Sushi is fresh, restaurant is spacious, clean, and quiet, and service is good.
The lunch specials are a great option. Bento box is good and they have some sushi specials as well.
The sushi rolls are fresh and tasty, with lots of filling and minimal rice, which is how I like it: more fish, less rice!

Great teriyaki bento box! Lots of food, fresh, well seasoned and great presentation.
The service is great, helpful without being in your face pushy.
*note in the bento box I substituted spicy tuna for the California roll for a small upcharge *

This place is great! I’ve ordered Seamless from Sushi Ren multiple times, and I was really confused once because the chopstick wrappers from Sushi Ren said «Tenzan» on it, which is another sushi chain just a few blocks down the avenue. I guess Tenzan decided to open up a sushi joint and put in some TVs playing football on it and rebrand it Sushi Ren so it wouldn’t mar their Tenzan branding.
Anyhoo, yes, Sushi Ren the restaurant has TVs so it’s great for a casual dinner when you think you should get out of the apartment as opposed to getting delivery for the 5^th time that week. What I look for in a sushi restaurant is a) a generous fish to rice ratio in their rolls and b) sushi rice that tastes like sushi rice. Sushi Ren hits both points, and the bodybuilder in me is happy with all that protein I’m getting. $ 14.50 gets you a standard tuna roll, salmon roll, and yellowtail roll maki set. (Although the same combination is $ 0.50 cheaper at Tenzan 89, hmmmm.) I’ve also had their spicy rolls and I enjoy them thoroughly. And delivery’s great too — this will be my go-​to place moving forward.

Best sushi I’ve had on UES. Trendy decorations and yummy food. I got the red snapper hot pot which was so good but warning, it’s REALLy hot! On fire. The sushi was excellent and tasted fresh. Great service and reasonable prices.

I went to this restaurant because I saw it while I was driving by one day. I went early on a Friday evening around 5 pm. This place is really a great addition to the upper east side. This fish was fresh and the portions were perfect. The service was perfect. I will definitely be back.

Big portions of sushi and really nice inside. I really liked enjoying the food and watching three big screens right on top of a full bar.

Really fresh sushi for the area! 3 huge flat screens, perfect timing for college FB. service is really great: kind, patient, knowledgable. You really can’t go wrong here. Wonderful addition to the UES. I suggest the double taste roll — truly delicious. Even there veggie tempura was above the competitors — not mouth burning hot but you still get a lot of flavor!
Basically, go to this place. It’s great.

Was good when we ate there. But then my brother and I got food poisoning. I ate multiple raw sushi rolls and the seafood dumplings, and my brother got chicken teriyaki. It did not stay in our stomachs unfortunately. Beware.

Classy place for a reasonable price. I love the ambiance and the fact that it is a full bar! Sushi is tasty and really big portions! Definitely will be back. We were getting a bit tired of the other options in the area.
