Tiny Pinecone Teahouse and Bakeshop

So glad to stumble upon this popup shop! I have always been more of a fan for tea than coffee and man oh man I could not decide on what tea to try! But what was more captivating was the pastry choices… the green tea cream puff was amazing! I wish you could stay :(

This is probably the cutest shop that I’ve been to and coupled with their amazing dessert selection (I’m looking atchu green chiffon tea cake!), it’s near impossible to go wrong. I’m glad that I was able to go there before they close (if you haven’t gone yet, go soon! It’s only open until February 21^st!) and experience their warm customer service and try their delicious black milk tea. It doesn’t hurt that my friend is a regular there. if more than 24 hours goes by without her visiting, I’m pretty sure they’d fill out a missing persons report. All in all, a nice cozy space to grab a tea drink and a tasty Japanese dessert. I wish they were open longer!

Visit here for the first time today, and regret not know about their existing until recently.
I went with two friends. We fell in love with their delicious treats. We came back for second for their «Matcha Cream Puff» but was all sold out… (sad) but we did get some new treats to try.
I hope «Tiny Pinecone» come back soon with a permanent location. My friends and I will definitely eat till we can’t eat anymore.

I stumbled upon this cute little shop as I was wandering around west village. They have a variety of teas & pastries. There were so many baked goods to choose from that I wanted to try them all. I finally settled on a cup of homemade chai & maple buttermilk tart. The chai was tasty with a hint of spice. The highlight for me though was the maple tart. I’ve had maple tarts elsewhere before & it was always too sweet. The tart here had just the right amount of sweetness while the maple still shined through. I would definitely come back again but too bad it’s a pop-​up that closes this Saturday.

Tiny Pinecone was a serendipitous discovery while walking in the West Village one day. My friend and I came back late on a Saturday afternoon to check it out and the place was completely packed. It was a rainy and cold day out so we decided to just wait there for a table and order tea first at the counter. We killed some of the time talking with the owner about the shop — one half of a husband and wife team, he told us that the Matsunosuke (pie shop that was formerly in this space) owner was their friend who let them take her lease after she moved back to Japan, giving his wife a chance to take her lifelong dream for a spin.
Even though it was almost dinner time, we decided to go all out and sample a bunch of different stuff:
— Homemade chai — It had a strong, ginger-​y spicy kick.
— Black sesame chiffon cake — It was supposed to be served with soba-​cha cream, but they were out so it got subbed with chantilly cream instead. The cake was super soft and fluffy, and the black sesame flavor very subtle.
— Apple tarte Tatin — Layers of warm, caramelized apple over a perfectly crispy crust. This was easily my favorite.
— Chocolate darjeeling trifle — Served in a small glass jar, this was another favorite. The darjeeling pudding was very light, which balanced out nicely with the richer, fudgy chocolate cake and chocolate chips.
— Sour cream cheesecake — Very tangy due to the sour cream base. The crust was also a bit too soft and mushy, and in the end neither of us could finish it because it felt too heavy and creamy.
Overall, Tiny Pinecone is a café that is worth checking out, especially on a cold wintry day where hot tea and a pastry (or two or three) would be the perfect remedy. Hurry though, they’re only in this location until February 21!

The most delicious, cutest Bakeshop in the city! I had to try one of everything, and it still wasn’t enough! More more more! Everyone try to make it before the pop-​up ends on February 21^st! It’s worth it!

This is the cutest little shop and it needs to be permanent fixture in the neighborhood. My best friend took me here for a little meet up and I am so happy that she did because the tea and pastry I got were both super delicious.
I ordered the house blend Royal Milk Tea and the Macha Cream Puff. Both were so so good. I loved the flavors of the Royal Milk Tea, probably one of the best teas I’ve ever had. It wasn’t overly sweet at all and it tasted so fresh and was also very comforting on a cold February day. The Macha Cream Puff was also very good, I love green tea flavors so it was an instant hit for me. It actually also got me pretty full and it was a good individual size.
Definitely come here before they close on the 21^st! It is such a short walk from the West 4^th train stop and well worth the trip.

Go before this pop up shop closes next weekend! Their sour cream cheesecake (so light, but still flavorful) and their chocolate chip walnut cookie (warm and somehow both crunchy and chewy at the same time) are my favorites! I really enjoy their royal milk tea, but if you’re getting their desserts, I would suggest trying their other loose leaf teas with it. The owners are the sweetest ever which makes the place that much more cozy. I love the music they play there too!

This place is absolutely adorable. I really loved the atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to get an afternoon tea, a sugary snack, and catch up with a friend. We weren’t sure what to order, and the gentleman behind the counter was super helpful and friendly. He even let my friend borrow his cell phone charger! I got the chai tea, it was flavorful and sweet. My friend really enjoyed the black tea she ordered and said it had a hint of fruity flavor. We both had the black sesame chiffon cake, which was so good! It comes with a fresh homemade crème piped on top. delicious, I could have eaten this off the plate by itself. Go here before it closes on February 21^st!

I’m so sad that Tiny Pinecone is only a pop-​up and temporary. I’ve been going here for months before I realized that it wasn’t actually Matsunosuke for the time being — they even still used the same bags!
My boyfriend comes in pretty often to buy treats for me — it’s on the way from his bus to Stumptown and then class at NYU. I’ve had the milk custard and the Green Tea chiffon cake because of his walk-​bys. The milk custard is pretty darn good — and I love that I get to keep the glass cup it comes in!
My absolute favorite is their Green Tea Chiffon Cake. The Green Tea chiffon cake is to die for! There is a faint matcha flavor, which means it isn’t bitter at all. They squirt cream and green tea jelly on top of the cake once you order it. So good! The cake is so soft and pillowy and the cream isn’t heavy or too sweet at all. I highly recommend their chiffon cake!
I recently came in for tea and their royal milk tea is so good! It is so silky and goes down so smooth. The Boyfriend’s Oolong tea was also really good — it smelled so delicious. We also sampled the Chocolate Tea Trifle — we ate one in the store and I brought another to go — that’s how good it is!
I will be so sad when they move — but I will definitely be keeping my eye out for where they open up next!

My GOD NYC needs more places like this! Tiny indeed with a HUGE amount of charm and just the right amount of zen to destress from the day to day bullshit of the city and have a perfectly brewed pot of tea. Sadly I didn’t partake in the snacks (even the tasty looking savory biscuit that came with the tea for free!) but for what it’s worth, everyone seemed to be nomming happily and I for one plan to do so at the next possible opportunity!
I hope this place finds a permanent home because they have a die hard customer!

This winter bakery/​café popup on an ever-​changing stretch of 8^th replaced MATSUNOSUKE aka
* (which is still the name on the CC charge). The super friendly staffer certainly appreciated the business but the $ 1.50 coconut shortbread (one of the better options of the underwhelming selection) wasn’t too impressive; wanted to love the joint, but had no reason to.

I stopped by here on Friday to avoid the weather and sample the tea, which I was hoping would help with the cold I’m currently dealing with. The space is clean, bright, and cozy, and the owners made it an amazing experience for me! Ben was very helpful with different tea suggestions (I’m a newbie), and brewed everything to perfection. Lisa let me sample several treats before I settled on the maple buttermilk tart — I followed that with a fig and goat cheese scone. I happily spent a couple of hours relaxing, reading my book, and sipping tea. Can’t wait to come back!

Awesome chai and fantastic tea selection. The couple running this place are adorable and so friendly. Very tiny little baked goods that are cute — haven’t tried them yet but they look amazing. Can’t wait to go back — gotta get as many fixes before they leave in February!

This tiny place is just the perfect little teahouse to catch up with friends. The interior is decorated in a very refreshing, tastefully light way, and the husband/​wife owner of the business are just two wonderfully kind sweethearts. The tea is wonderful and really greatly priced at ~4.95 (? i forget) per pot, 5.95 for the more gourmet teas. All the baked goods are done by the wife who is a pastry chef/​the mastermind of this adorable venture; try the ginger shortbread! So good! Love this place.

i came into this place to kill time, warm up, and looking for non-​coffee options. this place has the cutest decors! they also have lots of baked goods laid out and they looked good. however, i wasn’t hungry so i skipped on the cakes and got the green tea (originally wanted royal milk tea but they sold out). they carefully measured out the tea leaves and steeped it for a designated amount of time. while i was waiting, i couldn’t resist but wanted to take pics of the cute place, the owners happily obliged.
few minutes later, i got my tea and they also gave me a complimentary black sesame cookie (thin, crunchy, and has a very intense sesame aroma). my tea was warm and brewed just right. i love this place and really liked the attention they put into it. this place is a pop-​up, go soon if you are interested!

This is the cutest tea house. Great selection of teas and amazingly yummy pastries! The owners are incredibly nice too!!!

Beautiful décor. Lovely cakes, fragrant tea. Good hideout from the winter weather. What more can I say? Now I just gotta drag my boyfriend here sometime.

A pop up bakery in the West Village and will be there until February from what I understand — so go while you can! Right near the W 4 St. subway station so it’s a convenient location.
Confession — I came in to Tiny Pinecone looking for Matsunosuke’s chiffon pancakes and was informed that the chef had gone back to Japan, and that the Tiny Pinecone had opened in its place. A little disappointed, since I’d been craving pancakes, I nevertheless couldn’t resist the assortment of baked goods that this little shop had to offer. The husband and I both got chiffon cakes — I went with Lavender Oolong, and he chose Black Sesame. They infuse tea flavors into some of the desserts, which I thought was awesome. I was also lucky enough to get some Green Tea milk jam (it’s green tea flavored condensed milk is how I can best describe it) to go along with my chiffon cake. The cakes paired with the royal milk tea was perfect — not too sweet, and the flavors complemented well together. Some tea infused desserts you can’t really taste the flavors, but I think it came through really well in these chiffon cakes.
It’s pretty evident that the owners, Ben and Lisa, put a lot of work and effort into everything so it’s pretty great to see shops like this open up and offer artisan desserts that aren’t mass produced and baked fresh (I’m looking at you Starbucks, and your never-​expiring croissants…)
It is a small shop and it takes a little time for the tea to brew since it’s made to order, but if you have some time and are looking for a nice place for afternoon tea and desserts or just to relax for a little bit, I think this is a perfect place. A nice little gem in the neighborhood.

This place is so sweet! An amazing selection of teas brewed beautifully in front of you and the most delicious and unique pastries and deserts made fresh on site. You can really tell how much love and care has been put into every detail — what a gem! Can’t wait to come back w friends!
