Uni K Wax Center

I have very sensitive skin. Whenever I wax or thread my eyebrows, I always get really swollen, red, blistery, itchy, and it’s just awful (though it only lasts a few hours).
So when I saw this place open up, I figured I’d give it a try. It boasts of non-​irritating, gentle wax, etc., organic whatever, that won’t make you swollen. $ 20+ (just for eyebrows) but it’s worth it if I don’t get that irritation, right?
The front desk people were super nice, though I had to fill out a whole intake form and sign a release! Fine, did that. They call the «technician» over and she has serious RBF (resting bitch face) and zero personality. She did a total shit job on my eyebrows, uneven, straggly hairs, just the worst. But I didn’t notice how bad my eyebrows looked until later AFTER THE SWELLING WENT DOWN! *note the irony here*
In conclusion, I spent $ 20, got a crappy wax, still swelled and itched, and had to deal with serious RBF to seal the deal — deal being that I will NEVER be returning here.

Uni K is the only place I go for waxing… for many reasons– but mainly because the green wax is not as painful as the other wax. This location is so clean and the employees all professional. Calling on the phone they got me in appointment quickly and all the staff is so friendly and polite. Aliayah was a wonderful waxer. She was gentle and precise and did a great job on me. Ketki was also lovely and I enjoyed talking with both these ladies. Keep up the great work! I will definitely be back

I was a loyal Uni-​K patron for years, so I am sad to say that today I took my business elsewhere and do not regret it.
In all fairness, the last time I visited this location was in May 2015 so I’m not sure if they’ve changed their practices. When this location opened, I was excited. It’s so much closer to my job and the hours of operation were very convenient to me, particularly because I have two full-​time jobs: account manager at a business management firm and mom. I always tried to book my appointments for the early morning (8:30 or 8:45 am) and most of the time was the only person in the waiting area. Yet, for some reason I always had to wait at least 7 – 10 minutes for someone to see me. The first time this happened didn’t seem like a big deal, but it continued to occur.
The front desk receptionists never seemed happy to see me. In fact, the more I visited this location the more disgruntled the girls at the front desk seemed. I get that customer service is a tough job. I’ve been there! I also understand that not everyone is a morning person. However, if you accept a job in customer service you should accept all the responsibility that come with that position.
Rule number one: Smile!
Rule number two: The customer is the most important person.
Rule number three: If the customer is wrong, breath in and smile some more.
The worst part of my overall experience at this location was receiving a service from someone I had not requested. Establishing a waxing relationship with a person is extremely hard, specifically because it might involve parts that are very private. Yet, the staff at Uni-​K doesn’t seem to understand that concept. On two separate occasions, I had booked online and had asked for a specific person, but was not seen by said person. I was never given an explanation as to why my person was not available. In fact, when I tried to ask the girl at the front desk she snapped, «she’s not here.» Call me crazy, but I think the correct response should have been:
«I’m so sorry for the mix-​up. [Insert favorite wax tech’s name] was not available, but [insert substitute] is just as good. Is that okay with you?»
Lastly, let’s talk cost. I had been a customer for at least 6 years. I get at least 10 waxes per year. At $ 40 a pop (and I’m being generous), I’ve spent close to $ 2,500 at Uni-​K. that’s not including tips, gift cards or products I’ve purchased. (Don’t get me started on their product-​pushing practices.) Yet, Uni-​K offered me very little for my loyalty. I get that the cost of a wax has gone up in the last few years, but maybe a company like Uni-​K can offer more than just $ 2 when you book online or $ 5 for your birthday. If a client is loyal, why not offer at least 20% off on a birthday month or a free underarm wax with every 10^th visit.
Uni-​K, I invite you to respond but please do not copy and paste a generic argument. Be thoughtful in your responses to your customers. Above all, get to know your customers and their needs. It’s not all about making money. It’s about getting and keeping your customers for as long as possible.
P. S. I gave them a two-​star rating because I will miss Shobha and Maria (who works at another location).

It was my first time here and it was great. I had Paula and she made the experience very relaxing for me. Definitely coming back !

Guess i will be visiting less often. Prices were hiked ridiculously! They will be seeing longer hair going forward.

I love it here and Lori is the best super thorough and quick… only thing this that the prices are too high in my opinion. But overall great place!

I usually go to the Flatiron location but today they didn’t have any available appts with my usual lady. So I went to Imu after reading a good review on her. She was great, nice, quick and thorough. I’d go again. Also the front desk attendants were very nice!

Can you please teach your stuff NOT TO apply wax on a visible birth mark under the armpit? And you if they did, at least teach your stuff to have courage tell it to the client that the birth mark was TORN and its BLEEDING (but not wait client under the door, smiling and looking for the reaction). Your specialists need at least put some peroxide and give a band-​aid so that the bacteria wouldn’t get into the wound + customer could get home without bloody armpit.
What is the purpose of colorful certificates hanging on the wall of each «certified technician»?!

This was my third and last time stepping foot in this establishment.
The receptionist today (5÷22÷2015 at 3pm) was beyond rude. I was asked to wait and watched 9 people who walked in after me get called in before me. After 45 minutes of waiting, I told her to cancel my appointment because I had to go back to work. She didn’t make a single effort to get me in or even give me a reason as to why my wait was so long. Just an «ok.» with an eye roll.
There are way too many wax centers in the city to have to deal with a place that makes you feel like you’re inconveniencing them.

Today was my 2^nd time at this location and again it was phenomenal. I have used other waxing centers before but they were always painful and my hair always seemed to grow in just as thick. The first time I went here I hadn’t gotten a wax and had shaved in between so it was a very tough job. Although there was some pain (inevitably) it was really not bad at all. Krishna is the best! She puts you at ease and makes it as painless as possible. I went to her again today and it didn’t hurt at all! I cannot recommend this place more!

Highly recommend Krishna!!! She is so honest that when I went to have my lower legs waxed she told me the hair wasn’t long enough. Someone in on the reviews below wrote that they were mad she wouldn’t wax her when her hair wasn’t long enough but why would you want to pay for a wax that wouldn’t even full work!
Krishna actually cares about her clients and you can tell. She’s gentle, warns you when it’s going to hurt and really does a great job.
The place is very clean and the front desk is nice.

So I was in the area and this uni k wax location was the closest. The wax they use in my opinion is the best. I used to go to Uni K religiously when I lived in Florida and had great experiences. Ok so I read the reviews for this location and they were great. Upon arrival I was impressed with the space, it was the biggest Uni k wax I’ve been to and very clean. So yes, good impression.
Moving along to the waxing. Majority of the reviews recommended Krishna. So I requested her. She was good, gentle, seemed like a really nice person but I didn’t see what everyone found so amazing. She refused to do my underarms, said the hairs were too short. I’m going on vacation tomorrow and I think she could have just tried. The hairs in my opinion were long enough but she’s the specialist so whatever. Now I have to shave my underarms for my trip this weekend which i did’t want to do. She did a good job with the brazilian wax but in the process dropped wax on one of my socks and it wouldn’t come off. I also needed my eyebrows cleaned and I figured since I was already there… why not. BIG MISTAKE… SHE TOTALLY MESSED UP MY SHAPE. Now I have to let them grow again, after months of not touching them and just needing them cleaned. She totally ruined them. I am very picky with my eyebrows, I should have known better but since she had such great reviews. SMH. I was SO UPSET, she showed me my eyebrows in the mirror and I told her ummm you took off a chunk of my eyebrows. it looks horrible. I only told you to clean them up and not touch a specific area and she did just that. NEVER AGAIN!

The wax is great and relatively painless. No irritation afterward. Krishna was great and attentive. She made an awkward experience super comfortable. Will book her again!

I’ve been to a couple locations and used various waxers. By far the best Uni K wax with Imu today. She was quick and thorough.

Excellent quality wax with no irritations. Seriously ~ even minutes afterwards, the most sensitive spots aren’t even red!
I am a big fan that the wax is strip-​free and is biodegradable.

Clean place, and you don’t feel like you are stepping into a closet, like similar establishments in midtown. I like that they used a soft wax, and it’s interesting that she pointed a fan at me, to cool the wax off quickly. Entire experience took about five minutes, a good sign. No waiting period, which is nice.
Although I must say, this is in my past now because I have since found laser hair removal, and won’t be going back. (PS if you know where to go, laser is NOT cost prohibitive. The money you’ll save on waxing, shaving, razors, epilators, and other hocus pocus is phenomenal, not to mention time, nicks from shaving, and ingrown hairs. I’m also posting ratings of the six laser places I’ve tried, and which are better.)

This place is so amazing!!! It’s huge and clean which are both big positives for me. The wax room itself was a nice size, with ac and a fan on. The license of my waxer was displayed as well as all the products she used, with all the labels on display The receptionist was super friendly. The wax itself was amazing it didn’t burn it didn’t pinch, it caught the hair, and the waxer didn’t have to touch up or redo a thousand times, one and done maybe two and done and no stubble… And to top it all off it left my skin feeling super soft and lighter. I got a discount being a first time customer, which I really loved. The biggest plus of the whole experience was Krishna! She was the absolute best and made my experience overall an enjoyable one. The price is moderately priced, I’ve found cheaper in nyc but for the quality of the place as well as the experience, and low level of pain I would be willing to pay a bit more.

This new Uni K is really great. Just like the others, but especially clean and sparkling, plus seems large with many rooms for waxing. Krishna was AMAZING! Please give her a raise! Requested her via the booking site after reading another Unilocaler’s mention of her, and I’m so glad I did. Polite, gentle, and so accommodating. Will definitely be back.

Super rude receptionist
Okay so this place wax is amazing it’s painless but the receptionist were pretty rude I went there to get a Brazilian around 4pm i live near by so I was very happy about this new waxing center. The place is clean, I just felt like the reception girl was pretty rude, I asked to used the bathroom so she told me the direction with an «ugh it’s on the right first gap anther right, you know what I’m saying «I just felt like it wasn’t very professional and also she didn’t know what she was doing I felt like I don’t know I was just upset by the fact that she said ughhh when I asked her for directions it annoyed the shit out of me. The wax was pretty good but I’ll think I go to another uni k center

Great new place. The staff was friendly and courteous. My waxer was gentle and very fast. All of the hair was removed and I must say it was painless. The wax they use is awesome!!! I recommend this place to all. It is very very clean and fresh.
