WestHouse Hotel New York

Location is great, easy walking distance to many attractions and easy subway access. Hotel is modern and great décor. The residence fee includes wine, champagne and 2 beer selections when we were there (stella and amstel light). There is zero bathroom space in the King Luxury room for your amenities to sit or your wife’s :). Staff seems to be limited as calls to front desk were rarely answered when we called in the evenings (just a couple times). Also we had an amazing dinner a great steak house in town and really wanted to re-​heat our leftovers later that evening (since we spent $ 350 on that dinner) and were told we could not do so by one person and the next person never got back to us. And were not provided a solution (basically a microwave). Overall the hotel is nice, location is great, service can be improved upon. Hotel is a good selection to stay but we will choose to stay at a different hotel next time.

A fake luxury hotel. We stayed there late last year. We live in NYC, I’m a pediatrician here and was exhausted from work. I literally wanted a quick getaway and my friend was in town for business. I dunno, Its just a bit over priced for what it actually was.
My friend had an issue and the manager about the heat. The room was extremely hot. We tried calling the front desk and by the time someone knocked on our door we managed to open the windows during a a freezing night which cooled the room down. It also cooled down our special night!
My friend asked to get a managers business card, I think his name was Bassim or something. He never responded to our emails regarding this hotel issue, I dunno maybe it went to his Spam. I see he responds to some people on Unilocal.Look, its not a cheap hotel and customers shouldn’t have to open the windows to cool off the room.
Other than that I feel like the guy at the bar was nice. And the African American front desk girl was very sweet. And there was live music in the bar, they were amazing!!! Those are the only highlights.
Honestly, no one else really spoke to us or greeted us upon our arrival. And the whole $ 30 wifi, wine and nasty sandwiches they serve in the evening is a rip off. As I’m not a tourist this kinda doesn’t pertain to me, but the whole point it to get out and enjoy the city, kinda pointless if you ask me. Perhaps the issue is management? I don’t know but we won’t be staying here again!

Mid-​Town West marvel. Mid Price range w Luxury features. Really cozy lobby and bar space w numerous comfortable nooks, comfy leather seats and cute bar. Spacious rooms w comfy beds. No mini-​bar, in room movies or free wifi. In room climate control present. Excellent staff. Two resteraunts, fitness center. Comparable to The Mark, Essex House or Highline in comfort and quality at half the price. Beats the Waldorf (Not the Waldorf Towers) and Le Parker Meridian and destroys other mid-​range NYC spots. Close to Columbus circle and the park.

$ 500 a night and it’s extremely hot in the room — 75 degrees!!.
We call the front desk. They say, «open your window (which cracks about 6″) and we will bring you up a fan. We turned off the air in the entire building for the season.»
It’s The first of December, but it’s 75 degrees in the room!
Suggestion… Unless you prefer to sleep in a sauna, skip this hotel unless it’s snowing in NYC!

If I could rate this higher I would. Everything about that place is perfect. All the staff of the hotel and the beautiful views it offers. The staff was so wonderful housekeeping would greet me with a smile and a good morning in the hallway of my room. All the ladies were so kind to me and my husband. The bell men and front desk were so helpful and kind. My husband and I got to the hotel earlier then expected and from the beginning they did all they could to makes us comfortable and get a room for us as soon as they could. While we were waiting we got to enjoy the lovely breakfast they have upstairs with beautiful views. We were there to celebrate our honeymoon and all the staff new. My husband and I felt so special .When we get to our room we find a lovely card from the lady manager and a beautiful champagne bottle. I can’t say enough things about this place. I can strongly say this is the best place in New York. This review doesn’t do justice for all they did. Thank you to all the staff for making our honeymoon memorable.

I can see why Conde Nast ranked this place in the top 10 hotels in New York City.
I had an amazing time.
The service and amenities were wonderful. The front desk and concierge were friendly and very helpful during my stay. They helped me pick out great restaurants in the area. I really felt at home here.
The rooms were classy and nicely done. In fact, I originally picked this place out because of the headboards they use — they provided a great backdrop for the naughty polaroids I took. So, I was delighted that the bed was also one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. It was nice to wake up to a great view of Time Square and the surrounding skyscrapers.
I’ll be back.

We stayed here for my husbands 40^th birthday. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The room was spacious, we stayed in the king suite. The evening cocktails and mezza are superb. Just a few blocks from Central Park so wonderful location. Breakfast was great on the terrace we enjoyed the views. Oh did I mention the quiet rooms free wifi? Definitely recommend this place if your headed into NYC.
I really have nothing but good to say. There were no negative surprises. There is a fee of about 38 $ a day pp where you get afternoon treats, cocktails and some mezza and breakfast. I thought it was a completely reasonable added perk especially in NEw York. I had a few glasses of wine and cheese plate. Totally worth it. You will not be disappointed stay here.

This review is overdue by a week yet I couldn’t stop thinking about the amazing experience I had during my stay. First; I would like to highlight the fact that traveling as a single mother of an 11-​yr old boy is a bit challenging and furthermore when my son had had a rough trip into NY. Nathan wasn’t other than AMAZING and caring, him and the front desk staff gave him a refreshment and made our check in a smooth one; from coordinating lunch-​delivery to having a taxi ready for our 7PM play their superior service is one to highlight. To also mention the hotel’s amenities I enjoyed the fact breakfast, tea-​time snacks and the bar were perfectly appointed and a touch of class to the experience. From the delicate displays to the gourmet flavors, the hotel is a perfect 10 for one’s escape to the big city.
I also would like to commend Moe for his referral to a great steak house; especially my son loved the restaurant. I would go on and on yet I don’t want to sound redundant with compliments. I do want to also commend WestHouse’s owners/​corporate office for a job-​well-​done with regards to the superb expertise with their talent acquisition. Every staff member seemed to be the perfect match for their duty and were eager to assist in every aspect of the stay. I would also like to commend the work of the front desk manager/​guest relationship manager for her diligent assistance with a lost article.
Overall — and again not to bore the reader — take a chance and experience this hotel; your experience will be gratifying.

Had to visit a friend who was staying at WestHouse NY to finish up a project together. The accommodations were inviting and comfortable, it felt like a polished-​up apartment. The balcony view was great too.
My only disappointment was the lack of greeting and attention when I entered the hotel and had to sit in the lobby for 20 minutes while my friend came from across town. No one came up to greet me, assist me, or offer me anything. Sort of weird for a place that is supposed to be so accommodating.

Having stayed at lots of different hotels, I was really looking forward to trying a new one, as the reviews were so good and because Westhouse was listed as 5-​stars. However, there were many things that fell short of expectations. First, the check-​in process was extremely slow. There was a large family in front of me, but only one front desk employee to help everyone so I waited about 15 minutes just to check in — usually I wouldn’t mind the wait, but I was in a rush to a meeting. To compensate, I was ‘upgraded’ to a King room (vs. the Queen), but the view was awful — looked only into a dark inner courtyard, with other rooms able to see into mine. I immediately shut the curtains for the rest of my stay.
In terms of cleanliness, some of the surfaces had a pretty thick layer of dust on them, and the remote control for the TV was covered in a mysterious sticky substance, which I unfortunately didn’t discover until I tried to change the channel — ick.
The layout of the bathroom was also pretty terrible — crammed into a small space, you have to completely close the bathroom door to open the shower door, and both doors have to be shut to use the toilet. Super stingy in terms of toiletries provided as well, only one bar of hand soap by the sink, no body wash/​shower soap provided. Was really surprised honestly for a hotel that is supposedly 5 stars.
The doors of the room also don’t shut securely by themselves like most hotels do — you have to really pull the door shut. When I first left the room and let the door swing closed behind me I thought I heard a strange sound and luckily went back to double-​check the door — and indeed it wasn’t fully closed. Not very safe from a security standpoint; even the basic chain hotels have this feature.
Gym is shared by Park Central hotel and is small with pretty poor ventilation (smelled terrible in there!). Antibacterial wipes not available to clean the machines, only cheap paper towels and an industrial cleaner spray. Towels/​water not provided in the room either. I did like the views of the street though; much better than the view from my room.
Wifi was free but internet speeds were slow (7 mbps down/​up when I ran a speed test).
Finally, the worst part of my stay was the humidity — no matter how low I turned the temperature, the room was extremely stuffy (and in the middle of July, NYC gets pretty hot). I called down to ask about it, and they said someone would be sent up but after a while no one came. Seeing that it was pretty late already, I just gave up, hoped that it would cool down and went to bed, but I tossed and turned the whole night.
I didn’t get to try the food/​drink provided in the Den/​bar area, which is unfortunate as they charge you a $ 38 per person ‘resident fee’ anyway when you check in (on top of the $ 340/​night cost of the room + taxes/​other fees). The pictures of it look nice, so if I ever stay here again (which is unlikely) I’d check it out.

I really enjoyed my stay here. It was clean, modern, chic, and the people who work here are friendly and courteous. It was pretty quiet in my room, which was surprising considering the location, but I was very happy since I can’t sleep when there’s too much noise. The last hotel I stayed at in Chelsea was very noisy.
The location is also ideal. It was walking distance from both Times Square and 5^th ave. I was more excited about the fact that Ippudo was within walking distance. haha
I stayed here for 4 nights during my last work trip to New York.
I came at the end of March and although it was cold outside, my room was toasty and warm even with the heater off. Actually I kept it off because it would get too hot at night if I left it on.
The bathroom is a little small, but the room itself is pretty spacious for a New York hotel.
Breakfast is served daily on the 23^rd floor terrace. They have croissants, boiled eggs, mini muffins, cheese, smoked salmon, fruit, OJ, and coffee. It’s not a hot breakfast, but it was still good and was perfect in the mornings before I headed to work.
My key stopped working on the morning of my last day but they were able to quickly exchange it to a new key for me at the front desk and were very apologetic about the inconvenience.
They charge a $ 35/​day service fee, but who’s complaining? They have free breakfast and fast free wifi too! so i guess the service fee kind of covers that.
I would definitely stay here again.

It is 3:10 am right now and my wife, three daughters and I cannot sleep because the heat is unbearable. Called the front desk twice and because it is a landmark building the entire building system has to be either on heat or cool and the in room system will only blow hot air if it’s cool outside. Windows open about six inches but it doesn’t help at all. Asked for a fan and they don’t have any. Not being able to achieve a room temperature climate should be a very basic expectation at a hotel. 77 degrees is not room temperature and instead of enjoying a restful night sleep I’m compelled to write a Unilocal review to vent about the lack of acceptable ventilation.
The I’m sorry there’s nothing I can do and it is what it is type of response regrettably is not making our room cooler and in fact is getting me even more heated. I feel like having my twin five year old daughters who are crying about how hot it is spend some quality time with our friends at the front desk and see if they can help calm them down and get them back to sleep.

First time staying here and only been checked in for a few hours, but I can give my impression so far. I wanted to give this hotel 5-​star rating, but one big issue keeps me from giving this establishment my complete stamp of approval.
I arrived early, around noon. There wasn’t a room for me so I checked my bags with the front desk and went up to the 23^rd floor terrace. The terrace is very nice with offerings of coffee, cappuccino, sodas, fresh fruit and cookies. All part of the «residence fee» you pay to stay here (which is an additional $ 35/​night). I went out sight-​seeing for a few hours to Central Park (which is about 4 blocks away) and when I returned my room was ready. I am on the 25^th floor in a king-​sized room. My bags were brought up within a few minutes. Included in the residence fee is also bottled water in the room which is nice because I was thirsty!
Now for the not so nice … I’ve already met my first unwanted guest. A large cockroach in the closet. Man, can those buggers run! He was camera shy but I managed to get a quick pick of him running behind the small closet armoire. I know it’s a risk to stay anywhere in NYC, but I stayed at a nicer place (more expensive than i’d prefer) in the hopes of avoiding that problem. I will keep all my stuff off the floor and keep my luggage ZIPPED (not that that’s a guarantee, but will also keep my fingers crossed). I will speak to the front desk staff and see what happens. Will update review once I have talked with them.
UPDATE: I have bumped the Westhouse Hotel from a 3 to a 4 after calling the front desk re: my unwanted visitor. Within 10 minutes (not enough time for me to shower) two managers were at my door. They called down to the «room keeper trackers» and told them the room is unavailable until pest control has been in. They insisted on moving me to another room which was an upgrade to a «times square view king» on another floor. After which I received another call from guest services offering additional amenities if needed. It was obvious that this is not a common occurrence as everyone seemed genuinely surprised and embarrassed at my find!
On day two I woke up and found no running water in my room. Guest services was extremely helpful. Extra bottles of water were sent up for my use and I was updated every 20 minutes with the resolution progress. A hotel next door had a water issue that affected The Westhouse Hotel so I did not hold that against the hotel.
Upon checkout, I did speak with the front desk staff regarding housekeeping trying to rush me out of my room that morning, in addition to the other issues I had during my stay. Without question, they removed the residence fee from my bill. The front desk manager came over to speak to me (without me even requesting a conversation) and asked that I contact him personally for my next stay and he will ensure an upgrade and amenities.
I’d like to give them a 5-​star, but not this visit — but I definitely recommend this hotel. My advice is to thoroughly check your room (especially the closets) and put your mind at ease. Definitely speak with the hotel staff if you experience issues during your stay. They all wanted me to have everything I needed to enjoy my stay. It’s a beautiful hotel and I would stay here again!

I wouldn’t recommend.
I was showering one night and there happened to be a cockroach showering with me. My husband informed the front desk and they said they would send someone immediately. 20 minutes later we called again because no one had come, again we were told someone would be sent immediately and we would receive a call from the manager. Now almost an hour from the original call (and being after midnight) we still had a cockroach.
By this time, I was upset and asked to speak to the manager because still no one had come to our room. The so called manager Ashley felt like arguing with me about the times I called, was better than fixing the problem. And then went on to ask me, «well, what do I want?» Again, I said the cockroach removed from the room would be just fine.
I will say, that the next day this was taken care of by Bassim who was extremely nice and acted as a manager should. We were moved to a slightly larger room, and given a free nights voucher for a future stay, which will not be used. But the way that we were treated originally was unacceptable. Customer service makes the entire experience, no matter how nice the hotel. Which I would even say was average. We booked a hotel claiming to be 5 stars when really it wasn’t.

I stayed here for 5 days, having booked it anonymously through Priceline. When I originally found out about the $ 30 a day per person guest fee, I was a bit irritated, but if you take advantage of breakfast and have a couple of drinks at the end of the day, it’s not bad. They also allow you to take food and drinks back to your room.
Pros:
–The location is great. The hotel is right next to an express stop on the N/​R/​Q line, so it’s easy to get around from the hotel.
–The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Con:
–I was «upgraded» to a king bed, and while the bed was great, the room and bathroom were TINY.

I am very rarely compelled to post reviews, but I feel the abhorrent experience I had at WestHouse should be shared. The lack of customer service would have been appalling at any hotel, let alone an exorbitantly expensive 5 star hotel in midtown Manhattan that sneaks additional charges onto your bill. While we had a large number of pathetic experiences with the hotel management and staff, I will just share a short summary to paint the picture.
My grandmother booked WestHouse after a friend recommended it to her. She is a very able 95 years old who requires reasonable accommodations (like a bath mat to prevent falling in the shower). Prior to our arrival, I called three separate times to confirm that my grandmother would be provided with a handicapped-​accessible room with two beds and an ADA-​compliant shower. All three times, the reservationist was unable to locate the reservation (which seemed to be a common occurrence since she wasn’t fazed by it) but «made a note in the system». Regardless, she promised they would accommodate my grandmother.
When my grandmother arrived on Friday, there was no record of my requests and she was given a regular room, with a single bed and regular bathroom because the hotel was «full.» She requested a bath mat to prevent her from slipping in the shower. The hotel did not provide one. She requested one repeatedly, and was not given an answer for two days, when the hotel finally provided one. When I arrived on the third day, I asked the front desk about the room and bathroom she was given. They miraculously «found» a room for us with two beds and a handicapped-​accessible shower on the spot. [While changing rooms, I learned that there is only one bell hop on duty at a time, for 175 rooms, even when the hotel is fully occupied — an unsurprising staffing model for such an abysmal customer service experience].
We had a number of other dismal experiences, including mind-​numbingly simple issues such as nobody making up the pullout couch into a bed after we directly requested it with more than 8 hours of notice.
At checkout, we learned that the hotel charges a $ 30 per day «residents fee» even if you do not partake in breakfast (which they do not tell you about or advertise anywhere in their onsite signage) or any of the other «amenities» the hotel offers. The manager of the hotel had the audacity to ask my grandmother, «Did you enjoy your stay with us? I know the bathmat was a ‘challenge’.» My grandmother replied that she wasn’t able to shower for two full days, but thank you for charging her for a breakfast she didn’t eat and wasn’t told about.
In sum, if you like to overpay to be underserved and then further bamboozled out of more money, I recommend staying at the WestHouse hands down. There are plenty of other hotels in the city that will take better care of you for less money — and only charge you the amount you agree to pay in the first place.

Westhouse was a breath of fresh air in the sea of NYC hotels. So lucky to have found it and stayed here.
While that said and there are many pros, there is room for improvement. Would certainly stay here again and would suggest to many Unilocalers that you do as well. Our room was a King suite and was perfect in size for two people.
Pros: small and sophisticated and very tasteful, efficient staff, progressive idea with the resident fee and it’s benefits, great selection of coffees and cheeses, breads and wine and beer thru the day, the most comfortable beds, quiet rooms and great location. The hardest working staff members are those on the terrace trying to keep up inventory for guests to eat thru the day. They do a great job even without having a kitchen. The outdoor terrace is so very nice and could only improve by being bigger.
Con: evidence of housekeeping staff is always in the hallways, their carts were outside our door for the three days we stayed. details in cleaning bathroom ie: vanity and mirrors needs attention, not enough vanity space for two people and lack of hooks to hang wet towels evident, breakfast could use the addition of more fruit and music in terrace a bit on the loud side. The closet in our room was so small with only room for a suit to be hung due to the drawers and safe being I there as well. Perhaps it was just our room.
Westhouse Hotel is an elegant place to stay while in the Midtown West area. It is also close to many theaters if seeing a play is on your agenda.

SCAM! DO NOT GO HERE! I would have given this hotel a 4 star review if they didn’t try to scam all of their guests. I prepaid the hotel on their approved Expedia advertisement. I paid over $ 700 for two nights. As you can clearly see in the attached photo, it states FREE wifi, hors d’hourves and wine.
However, when I got there they tried to have me sign an agreement to pay a ‘guest enjoyment services fee’ of $ 30 per person per night. That’s $ 60 per night for my party of 2 equalling an extra $ 120 total.
I told the receptionist that it was already included and politely showed her the email (see attached photo). This was embarrassing. The receptionist desk is literally within ear shot of the bar. I didn’t feel like arguing this point in front of the bar, so I told her I will just opt out for now and speak to a manger once I get to my room. She then said it wasn’t optional and that all hotel guests had to pay it. After reading to her and showing her the reservation, I offered to forward it to her email and asked to have a manager call me.
They refused to give me a room key until I signed the agreement to pay the fee… so I simply wrote ‘included from Expedia, see documents’ so they would let us up to room. I also demanded a manager call me.
The manager called and said, «We will waive the fee just this one time, but next time you’ll have to pay it». I thought: Excuse me? Your the one falsely advertising. All expedia offers must be approved by the company. And they are legally obligated to honpr those ads.
To make it worse. I just looked over my bank account after getting back home and they still charged me for it!
I just called to tell them to remove it and the man I spoke with said they are not responsible for what Expedia advertises. BS! I told him a manager already told me that I would not be charged and that I would be happy to forward the email to him.
He finally removed it, but I’m telling you, this was like pulling teeth. They don’t let you opt, and they don’t advertise this fee openly. They are gauging you when you arrive in hopes that you’ll just agree to it out of stupidity or ignorance. They pretended I was the only client that had an issue with it. They are trying to be competitive by offering lower prices than competitors but it’s fake bc they are hiding mandatory ‘guest enjoyment services fee’. SCAM! DO NOT GO HERE.
Not good for a New Hotel, especially in NYC.

Such a wonderful hotel in a fantastic spot! We were hesitant at first due to always staying in the MASSIVE Marriott Marquis on Times Square. But I was impressed from the moment we walked in.
It’s a small boutique hotel that was split off from the neighboring Park Hotel facing 7^th Avenue. You would never know it was part of another hotel. It is BRAND NEW and it shows.
I would give 4.5 stars if possible because I think the housekeeping could have been slightly better (although they were very clean and friendly — I like my toiletries refreshed every day). The toilet paper needs to be improved as well. that stuff was rough!
The highlights are:
— Great amenities provided for the extra $ 30 a day charge per guest. These include WIFI, a great gym, coffee, expresso, cocktails, wine and beer in the lobby lounge.
— A great gym. I never work out in hotel gyms because they are either dark, or stink… this was perfect for some cardio and watching people walk by on 7^th Ave!
The rooms are beautiful. The staff is top-​notch and friendly. The downstairs and soon to open upstairs patio is fantastic. They have awesome afternoon tea and great draft beer, bottled beer, wine and Champaign.
Did I tell you the booze was included with the room?!
We will definitely be back. You don’t have to be a Platinum at this hotel to receive all the benefits you deserve.
