You Move Me NYC

I rarely come online to write a review, but I have rarely — if ever — had such a horrible experience with a vendor or a mover. I have moved countless times in my life and I know what a proper move should look like. This company is a sham.
It is midnight on the second day of our move, and our place is in complete disarray. Furniture has not been unpacked, nor placed in its correct location. One of the three men supposed to move us has been laying in the truck flat out for the past 4 hours and there is no protocol in place to replace him, or even adjust the schedule. You Move Me movers worked hard and are clearly overworked and underpaid — they spent hours trying to get in touch with their supervisor, with radio silence to phone calls, texts or voice mails from them and us. The supervisor went away for the weekend and left nobody in charge but an incredibly rude Foreman who’s spent the past 3 hours yelling at me and blaming us for their inaccurate assessment. When we finally got someone to answer a phone, we got an operator based in Canada who couldn’t do anything but give me the same numbers that I had been calling for the past hour. You Move Me clearly invests the bulk of their energy in marketing their company, with little quality or management behind the lime green T-​shirts and promises of coffee (which never happened, by the way).
Movers ultimately left the place with no explanation of the process for completing the job. We have no idea how much we’ve been charged, and no idea if anyone is coming back to fix the mess. You can see the photos below which show how they threw all the trash from the truck onto our street, which we now also have to clean up. At midnight. Classy.
Update: Management called this morning and was responsive in sorting the situation out. They sent the crew back this afternoon, though bill still came out to be 25% over the original estimate.

This in relation to a move in 2014:
I honestly feel scammed. My husband made the arrangements and was quoted a price of $ 125/​hour with a one hour minimum for packing services. They sent two employees; both stated they had no previous packing or moving experience. Many kitchen and bedroom items that we asked be packed were not. About ¾ of the way through, one of them mentioned that we had to be charged one hour for travel, which we were never told and not in the contract. They threatened to leave so we ended up paying and still ended up having to do a lot of packing ourselves. We contacted the company and they shrugged us off. Terrible experience.

Have never really needed a moving service before as most of the times I’ve moved it’s just been small boxes or light furniture that I could handle on my own. This time around my mother was looking to donate my sisters old beds to a coworker. The beds were huge Amish made solid oak beds with drawers underneath. They barely fit into her house and i knew it was too much for a friend and I to handle.
I had heard good things about You Move Me from a coworker and I called up for a quote. I really thought this was going to be an expensive move as it required disassembly of the beds and then the move from Queens to Manhattan. Cameron the manager at You Move Me was honest and helpful every step of the way, most notable including his flexibility in getting a crew out to the house hours earlier than planned with only 1 days notice.
On the day of the move the guys did get a little bit lost finding our address, but hey Queens can be tricky. They showed up only a few minutes outside of the scheduled arrival time and quickly got to work. I’d say we had everything loaded on the truck in about an hour.
Pricing came in right around a local moving company I called, but I felt the level of service and the attentiveness to detail warranted paying a little bit more. You get what you pay for, right?
Overall a great experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to use You Move Me for a larger scale move.

I have never written a Unilocal review before, however, I feel so strongly that You Move Me earned a 5 star review so I set up a Unilocal account.
The night before, due to the amount of stuff my 8 month pregnant wife and I had to pack up, they sent over 5 guys (although we only had to pay for 3). They worked hard and non stop until the last item was packed up. Even though I wanted to help, they insisted I relax, enjoy a beer, and stay out of the way!
The next day (moving day), they showed up on time and ready to go! It was truly a heroic effort.
They say moving is one of the most stressful events… I promise these guys relieve you of that! Use them! I am already referring all my friends and fam!

Folks, if you are moving soon look no further. They are the best. They moved my daughter’s contents from one apartment to another in Manhattan .
Everything went very smoothly. They were on time and handled everything in expert manner.
My hat is off to Gorkys Villalona also known as Mr. G. He delivered what he promised. I would give them six stars.

This review is much overdue.
You Move Me moved me from my apartment in Queens to Manhattan a little over two weeks ago. In one and a half days, they packed *everything* in my one-​bedroom apartment, and moved it to my new apartment.
The guys (Tarek and Victor in particular) were completely professional, and courteous. I’ve never used a moving company in NYC before (even though I’ve been living here for about 10 years) and the service provided by You Move Me was exceptional.
The guys were on time (and early!), courteous, nice to be around all day, and treated my stuff as if it were there own. I won’t lie — a couple of (cheap) things got broken along the way (like the glass in a picture frame), but who can expect any move to go 100 percent perfectly?
I will definitely use this company again in the future when I need to move, and hopefully Tarek and Victor will still be working there when I need them again.

I’ve been a parasitic Unilocaler ever since it was founded, relying on everyone else’s time and dedication to help make consumer decisions, but never even creating an account. After years proceeding as such, it was my experience with youmoveme that impelled me to finally break my silence. I’m still just as busy as described below, so this is sloppy stream of consciousness, but I feel like I owe it to this company to share my experience.
Brief background: for reasons not important here (other than the fact that I commonly work 80−100+ hr weeks with no regard for weekends, as was the case during the relevant time period), I wound up in the idiotic position of searching for a mover just before 10:00pm on a Friday night, to move my untouched, 100% unpacked apartment by Monday night, on the last weekend of the month when most movers are already booked and/​or charging exorbitant rates. This was also an intensely stressful period at work during which the only time I was spending outside of work was showering, changing, and maybe napping for 45 – 90 minutes.
YouMoveMe was a complete lifesaver. They — literally — moved me. First, everything was coordinated through a call-​center rep named JENNIFER. I’ve never had a better customer service experience. Period. She appreciated the time crunch and difficult situation I was in, and went to work for me. At first, she wasn’t sure if she could squeeze me in, and the NYC crew chief was on a big move and couldn’t immediately be reached. She continued trying him on her own, and called me on her own initiative just to give me status updates. She was also incredibly sweet and personable, joked often, and helped me relax. Jennifer finally reached the crew chief, CAMERON, and he agreed with her that he would fit in my move, even though he was already pretty much booked. Not only that, but as for the high rate I was expecting because of my last-​minute prime time booking: they actually gave me a completely unnecessary discount that I hadn’t asked for, as a courtesy that they didn’t owe me. There is a higher base rate for moves involving stairs — a 3^rd floor walk-​up in my case — but Jennifer felt bad quoting it to me since I was moving from a temporary sublet with just boxes and a mattress (though there were still a few large items of furniture that needed to be brought down to go curb-​side). Before even connecting me with Cameron, Jennifer asked him if he’d agree to do it at the lower rate for a stairless move, and he agreed to. Just need to reiterate: Jennifer was THE BEST.
After I was connected with Cameron, we coordinated a time for them to drop off boxes to me on Sunday AM, so I could continue entertaining my fantasies of actually packing before the move (note: Cameron was incredibly nice and awesome). This removed another huge stressor because I had no idea when or where I’d get packing materials. I forgot the box delivery time, and was already long back at work when a crew came by to drop them off. They found a way into my building, and kindly left the boxes leaned up against my apartment door for when I returned, ready for me to pack from around midnight until 7am at which time I went back to work without sleeping. I got out of work about 15 minutes before the movers were scheduled to arrive, and with about ¹⁄₃ of my apartment still unpacked. When the movers showed up, after sizing up the situation, they very quickly helped finish packing me, taped up all of the boxes, and hauled a** out of there (note: all of the movers were incredibly nice and awesome).
When moving into my new apartment, now at 11 PM, new roommates asleep, they were very cognizant of my request to try to be quiet, and continued just as efficiently as before (sans the noise).
At billing time, I was prepared to be unpleasantly surprised, because the move took ~3x longer than expected, and I felt that a lot of that had to do with the crew somewhat inexplicably disappearing for a bit in transit (I went separately by cab) — they’d taken an unusually long amount of time to get from apartment to apartment (about 45 mins. from 58^th and 2^nd to 43^rd and 10^th fairly late on a weekday night). This was so much my expectation, that while they were moving things into the new place, I called youmoveme to ask about their dispute process, because I thought it would tack another couple hundred onto the bill (also note: the person I spoke to at that time was also wonderful to deal with, and was understanding and compassionate). In the end, though, I was shocked by how cheap it had come out. Somehow, it was barely over the already low estimate. I ended up tipping over 30% on a $ 600+ move (3 men, 4 hrs), in addition to thanking them profusely.
Conclusion: the end-​to-​end service cannot be beaten. I can’t imagine my move having gotten done with any other company — and they did it cheaply, with a huge smile, and to my complete and thorough satisfaction. I 100% unequivocally recommend them

Their customer service is stellar! This is so important at a stressful time such as moving and also so rare.
From the person who visits your home to give you an estimate (no other company I researched does it), to the people you speak with on the phone, to the captain of your moving team: courteous and cordial all-​the-​way.
Their rates are fair, but I swear they make you feel that you are always well taken care of and that’s gold in my book. I highly recommend them!

What houseplant? What coffee? I didn’t see none of that.
I moved about 2 weeks ago, and the movers were extremely nice, I will give them that. Nothing broke during the move. However, they took hours more than expected. They were supposed to pack up the stuff as well, and a job that was quoted to be be 4 – 5 hours max, took 10, and of course, that about doubled the price. I’ve had The Padded Wagon pack up my stuff before, and they were just zip, zip, so fast, every 10 seconds, a glass would be packed. It took these guys literally 5 minutes per item and then some. It was excruciating, how long it took them to pack stuff up, like it was their first time. The guys themselves were fine — they listened to whatever I asked them to do, and seemed trustworthy with my stuff. But man, the amount of time it took them to complete the move of a 2 bedroom apartment was too long. If you’re in a rush, I’d choose someone more established. Also, while they say their wardrobe boxes are free, what that means is, you can use it for free, but they must take it back when they leave. So you have to unpack all your stuff from those boxes immediately so they can have it.

You Move Me moved us from Greenwich Village to the UWS over a month ago, so this review is long overdue. I highly recommend this company. Chris put together a detailed quote, coordinated everything and was extremely responsive via email or phone whenever I had questions. And Charles and his team of two others (I feel so bad, I can’t remember everyone else’s name, which is why I should have done this sooner!) executed everything smoothly, were incredibly friendly and professional and took great care with all of our belongings. What we paid ended up being in the ballpark of the original quote, so I appreciated that Chris had been accurate and conservative in his estimates. All in all, a good experience that helped make the move less stressful! Call them!

I used You Move Me to move from Brooklyn to Manhattan. They were really courteous and professional and none of my things were damaged. They were also very well-​priced. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anybody.

I hired the company to make my move less stressful. At first glance, the movers appeared to be thuggish with braids and gold teeth. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. The move went ok. Then, it was time to pay $ 1000, and I tipped the movers. I used a debit card that I had not been using actively to pay. Days later, I found out that there were unauthorized transactions. Who did it? The movers, of course.

Absolutely loved these guys! I had to move the sunday after thanksgiving weekend so everything was a bit rushed but they were able to accommodate me very easily.
Chris was really helpful in getting me set up. He clearly walked me through the quote (I ended up paying a lot less because they guys were so efficient!), checked in with me a few days before, and kept me updated on the crew’s arrival time throughout the morning of.
Thomas, William, and Cam arrived and had my place (a large 1 bedroom) packed up within the hour. They were wonderfully friendly and helped pack a few items I had been unable to fit in my crates. I also found out later that Cam is actually the owner and volunteered to come in on a Sunday and help with the move because one of his driver’s children was sick. I find that pretty amazing and wonderfully reflective of the care this company puts into taking care of you while you move.
I also really enjoy the houseplant they left me with. I didn’t know about it because I didn’t read the Unilocal reviews beforehand (booked solely off of a recommendation from my broker and how communicative Chris was when I reached out). I found it to be a lovely gesture that brightened up the culmination of a hectic scramble to find a place and move on short notice.
I would highly recommend these guys to anyone who is moving in NYC. They are the most communicative and professional movers I have worked with.

Being the skeptical NYer I am, I wanted to believe all these wonderful reviews about You Move Me but in reality all movers are the same right? So they were hard to buy. But luckily I was wrong! YMM really has great movers who work quickly and are extremely friendly. We have a three floored row home we moved in to so these guys were hustling up and down stairs like crazy! And the final cost came in under our estimate which was great!
Compared to the other movers we have used in the past, these guys far exceeded what we previously experienced, they really were easy, reliable and no bullsht.
Just a few things to take note of though, but nothing which would affect their rating:
Ask about their COI upfront, they do charge $ 15 if you need to list your building or mgmt company as additional insured. We had a little trouble with ours and came back incorrect so I’m assuming the fee was waived because we (rightfully so) didn’t pay it. Also I think the biggest thing that drew me to this company was the whole getting you coffee when they first arrive, and then them leaving you a house plant when they move you in. That level of customer service is unheard of in this industry. However, the night before our move I had to email and ask about the coffee, which they then asked for our order and the guys did bring it, but I feel like it was more of an afterthought. Meaning had I not emailed and mentioned it they wouldn’t have. Also no plant! Different things draw different people in to go with certain vendors, and that kind of personalization is really cool and very customer service oriented. So not following through with stuff like that starts to chip away at the very integrity they are trying to build.
But that said, Chris was great to deal with, and the guys again were great. Don’t shop around, these are the people you want to entrust with your personal belongings. And really that’s the most important thing right? However, if you are gonna have gimmicks like the advertised coffee and housewarming plant then follow through with them.

Although I was fully packed when Charles G. arrived at my fourth floor walkup at 8:00AM (on the button!), I admitted to him that watching the actual move was, for me, the MOST STRESSFUL part of the whole experience. He reassured me with a big smile that this would be no sweat, and suggested I find a relaxing chair and chill. I asked if it would be ok if I just left for coffee while they packed, and he was cool with that, telling me he’d call me when he (and his partner, Gorky) were done loading up the truck. Awesome decision. All went smoothly. When we arrived at the new place, they unloaded the truck in no time, with no damage to, or mark on, any of my belongings. And… they came in $ 100 UNDER THE ESTIMATE. Good guys, great work, super fast. Can’t say enough about this experience.

II don’t know but they manages to make an unpleasant experience the most relaxing part of my week. I can’t say enough about how great this company handled my move. Even on amazingly short notice. Don’t use anyone else ever. And please tip generously– they work really hard.

Our movers arrived early, moved our stuff in quickly, and were incredibly kind and enthusiastic. There was even an additional You Move Me employee who randomly passed by and offered to help out for no additional charge. Amazing experience!

This is the BEST moving experience I have ever had! These guys are amazing and the best at what they do. They bring an energy and kindness to a job that I have never seen or thought I would experience in a move. They have such a can do attitude. I LOVE them and will ONLY use them going forward. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to move with style.
The team took such amazing care of all our stuff were beyond respectful. Everything was packed so carefully and treated like it was their own. We had a lot of glass and valuables and did not have one single item that damaged or broken. Everything they brought for packing and moving was brand new. I cannot thank them enough. These guys are the nicest people. It was a long two days and they had the same positive energy throughout the entire job. A huge thank you to Chris, Charles, Hector, Richard and Steve. They are absolute joys to work with. Thank you and looking forward to moving with you again in October!

Awesome movers!
Not only were the movers super nice (especially Charles), but they were also very thorough about my things. I had already packed everything and they still made sure to wrap things like my TV and shelf to make sure they weren’t damaged in transit.
The awesome part is that my new building had a window of time to move in and You Move Me was able to hold my stuff overnight ($ 200 fee). Not ideal, but in a last minute crunch, it was worth it!
The movers provided covers/​blankets for everything including a wardrobe box for my clothes (so easy!).
I will definitely be using them again when I have to move to my permanent apartment in October.
