Shelterwerkes architecture exists to craft environments of clarity and simplicity.
Your home or place of business is increasingly complex, even hectic, so the environment that helps you thrive does so without getting in the way. Your architecture should not compete with your needs or for your attention. Instead, the building you inhabit works for you every day by reminding you when, where and why you are, and what you want to do.
With fifteen years of experience in architecture working with some of the Bay Area’s most recognized firms, Heather Sanders-Jacob has brought these very ideas to the work they have done. From homes to offices to recreation centers, each project reinforced the importance of adding to the built environment something that speaks to the region, the history and the people who live there.
History
Established in 2009.
In 2009 Heather launched Shelterwerkes Architecture, a multidisciplinary design atelier. Before graduating from the University of Oregon’s Architecture program in 1999, she spent a semester studying abroad in the Danish International Studies program where she honed her appreciation for modernism and simplicity.
Her distinct backgrounds cover interests ranging from music to motorcycles and has resulted in a unique blend of technical skill and aesthetic sensibility. Examples of her built environments, furniture pieces and graphic design are marked by a strong substance and playfulness.
