Specialties
The Goldsmith is a true custom jewelry store. The store specializes in designing and creating fine jewelry. Most of their jewelry is modern or contemporary in design, though they are happy to make traditional jewelry as well. They put a strong emphasis on craftsmanship. The owner is a master goldsmith, with more than 30 years of experience making fine jewelry. They also repair and appraise jewelry.
History
Established in 1980.
The Goldsmith was started in 1980 by Tom Wilson. It was a small (300 sq. ft.) store on Broadway in Redwood City. They moved to their current location in Palo Alto in 1988. The store has always emphasized the artistic side of jewelry making. Tom Wilson designs and makes much of what they display and sell. They also carry jewelry from other jewelry designers. The Goldsmith is a member of the American Gem Society, a guild of jewelers dedicated to knowledge, ethics, and consumer protection.
