I’m so bummed this place closed! :(
I had some DVDs that I was about ready to sell. Thank goodness I Unilocaled the place first before going.
Got some great DVDs here as well as selling some back in the days when I needed some extra cash. They even gave better deals than selling DVDS online.
*Sighs* Interact — you will be greatly missed!

Rest in peace, Interact. You were wonderful while you lasted.

I liked Interact – I’ve been inside only one time though. Just wanted to let everyone know that they’re officially closed. They closed in Dec. 2012 – they taped this letter on their door saying goodbye:
«Thank You Pasadena! After over 18 years Interact has closed its doors forever! Thank you for all the great memories, we will miss you! Dave and the Staff!»
I notified Unilocal a few weeks ago to let them know that Interact is closed but it seems they haven’t gotten to my message yet. I didn’t want someone to make the trip there and be disappointed.

This is the first review I’ve ever written on Unilocal,but I feel so strongly about what Dave and the guys and gals at INTERACT do that I’m motivated to write this.
I’ve been coming here for 2 years. For Blu Rays, DVDs, video games, and idle chatter about movies, this is the best place I’ve been to in the entire Los Angeles area. The prices here absolutely wipe the floor with Amoeba and the rest. I’ve gotten Blu Rays here for $ 10, $ 8, $ 5. The deals are insane. You can also rent two Blu Rays, DVDS, or video games for 3 bucks for 3 days. But INTERACT is more than that, the culture here is something special.
That culture permeates the employees, who are a blast, the costumers who are knowledgeable and passionate about movies, and the selection. You’ll find stuff at Interact you won’t find anywhere else. The prices they pay for trade-​ins are also more than fair.
Places like INTERACT are a dying breed, and sadly it seems that they probably won’t be around much longer. Over the past two years I’ve made innumerable purchases here and have never regretted it.

Interact! is a DVD bargain hunter’s dream.
This place is absolutely not for that specific movie you’re looking to find to watch tonight. The selection is erratic and only loosely organized by alphabet. However if you’ve got an hour to spend sifting through every dvd and blu-​ray, you are certain to find many many treats at amazing prices! I walked out with 6 dvds and 1 blu-​ray for $ 40, and a couple of them were pretty hard to find discs.
When I returned a few days later I was pleasantly surprised to find a ton of new titles that had not been there on my first visit. The inventory is constantly changing, so your haul is going to vary on every visit (only found 3 discs my second trip), but you are always sure to find something to add to your collection, and at an insanely low cost!
As others have mentioned, they rent as well. This includes used dvds that are for purchase. Not sure you want to shell out $ 8 for a flick you’ve never seen? Rent 2 for $ 3, and if you like it, you can apply the rental charge towards the cost! That’s crazy!
Interact! is a true gem for collectors.

My son and I love this place. Great place to pick up some cheap games and movies and they sell Bawls there lol. Cool staff, everyone is kinda geeky and hip. My kind of place.

interact totally rocks! but i really want to know how the heck they stay in business. the BEST deal on DVD rentals: 2 DVDs for 3 bucks. rock on. and right now you can buy used DVDs for only 2 bucks. their selection is great! they are never too busy or have an annoying line, even on weekend nights. the guys who work there are all knowledgeable, kind and helpful. i would give them five stars if they were open later, but i’m afraid that would cause them to close or something which i don’t want, so nevermind! :-) we love the convenience of going there so much (instead of having to wait for the movie we want to see from netflix) that we sometimes plan our day around when they close and we’re happy to do it. ha ha. («oh, but don’t we need to return the DVDs to interact before they close? we can’t go all the way to west LA tonight then!»)
oh, and i can’t write a review without mentioning the candy of the week! we usually get peanut m&m’s. it’s only 60 cents, dude. LOVE it.

I set up my old retro game systems out in the garage, and started picking through boxes and boxes of old games I want to play again (or that I bought for cheap and never put any time into).
Many…if not most… of the games had one thing in common: a used price sticker from Interact.
I’ve bought used PC games and console games from them over the years. Can’t begin to count how many. Its my local spot to check into every couple of weeks and I regularly find something I’ve been wanting to play for a hella decent price.
A while ago, I brought in a game to be resurfaced. Seems the kid got a hold of it and it looked like she dragged it down the street. Behind a motorcycle. Anyway, I brought it in and they cleaned it up with the caveat that it probably was beyond repair (which it turned out to be). But they did it for free, which was a nice gesture. Had it worked, I would’ve come back and thrown them some cash just for being so cool about it.

haha, this is a favorite of our gamer film-​student friends. They have movie rentals, a good blu-​ray selection, and a random assortment of console and PC games for sale. They have some cult-​culture t-​shirts and a tiny adult section. It’s like the old movie rental stores you remember or if you’re my generation, saw in 80’s movies. Overall, the staff is helpful, the location is convenient… a cool place.

Interact is, quite literally, the first place I go to buy/​rent movies and videogames.
Dave and his staff are great. The prices are reasonable and the trade-​ins are extremely fair.
His rental policy IS the best deal in town. And if you decide later to buy one or both of your rentals, he will credit the cost of the rental towards your purchase.
However, the biggest complement I can pay to Interact is how I found the store. I was shopping at Penny Lane when one of the employees recommended I try the store across the street. That particular Penny Lane has since closed as well as the Blockbuster next door, but Interact is alive and thriving.
Honestly, if you live in the area, why would you spend your money anywhere else?

This place is the In-​N-​Out Burger of dvd stores. Simple, cheap, and delicious.
Three bucks will get you two rentals (including blu-​ray) for three days.
They also have lots of previously viewed dvd/​blu-​ray discs for sale. This is a good place to come and hang out for a while and look through everything.
Parking out front on Lake St. is metered and busy. Go around the back to the lot where it is free for two hours. Look for San-​Sai (decent cheap sushi restaurant) and park around there.
The owner and everybody else who works here are extremely friendly and helpful. Feels good to support a local business that is worth supporting.
On a side note:
When I was in there the other day I had an unreturned Netflix dvd in my back pocket. It made me feel dirty.

What can I say…
Dave the owner is the nicest guy!!! His family is super fun and friendly and I had no idea that he was the owner of this shop since he is such a reserved and kind man that I’ve hiked with for about 6 months now. Last month I asked him what he did and found out about this little shop that has been around for years.
Good Bye Netflix!!! Good bye Redbox!!! And bestbuy for that matter… I will support the man who is a local business man in my community and is doing the right things in the entertainment industry.
Great DVD selection, great Blu-​ray selection, and you can buy them used for a fraction of the cost of a new one. I’ve been taking advantage of 2 New Releases for $ 3 for 3 days!!! Which includes Blu-​ray too. I believe they also have 3 for 3 of all other dvd’s in the shop. I’ve been back 4 times and bought some of my favorite movies on Blu-​ray as I find them. I found the second season of The League which has been viewed many times already along with friends and beer.
It reminds me of another time in my life that I would go to music stores and browse the music or even when I used to sell those heavy metal tee shirts to kids. I could just hang out in there for a long time poking through the racks but the wife gets antzy after 20 mins so I’ll save that for a man date… any takers??? Bromance wanted for video store visit.

I love the prices! I was able 2 rent 2 DVDs for 3 nights for a total of 3 dollars. That’s a steal! The only problem I had was they didn’t have more than 2 games under the ps2 section. My man is a total gamer and I wasn’t able to get anything for him.
I would go here for the DVDs and PC games for sure though!

This place is a DREAM COME TRUE. First off, their rentals are $ 3 for 3 nights, any two DVD’s including Blu-​Ray and New Releases! Are you kidding me? I thought I was walking into the Twilight Zone the first time I saw that deal. Then I started checking out their regular DVD’s and games… HOLY MOLY!!!
I was there just last week and they were selling the Despicable Me DVD for $ 12. They are still selling it at Target and just about everywhere else for at least 20 – 30 dollars, so it’s just insane!
Game prices are incredible as well, the hottest release out right now is selling for 60, and interact has it at 35 dollars! The place is an absolute mecca for any serious gamer and movie fan…
Be sure to check out their huge rack of 3 – 4 dollar DVD’s and the CLEARANCE (as if the prices aren’t already at the clearance level??) area has some great finds as well. The staff is super cool and friendly, and I love the displays by the local artist. Got some cool t-​shirts for sure!
This place is an absolute MUST!!! A+ WITH FIREWORKS!

Two DVDs, Blu-​rays, video games, $ 3 for 3 days! Best deal in town. Blockbuster is just a few steps away, but why go there? Latest releases are the same price, too. This is the only video store I’ll go to.
I’ve only seen about 20 PS3 videogames available at any time. I haven’t noticed any new video game releases — they’re about 1 or 2 months old by the time they’re available in the store. Probably because the store doesn’t buy brand new video games for their inventory, only the ones that people bring in to sell to the store. Either that, or I’m not quick enough to get to the latest releases.
They have some cool tshirts for sale, too — check out the wall next to the checkout counter.

One of the last stores I’ve seen that catered to hard core gamers, at first it was games, dvd’s then dvd’s started taking over a bit, but it’s all about what sells and they do it cautiously, they haven’t felt the need to expand, probably seeing businesses do that, and fail. Keeping a casual inventory works for them, and I’ve found some great deals over the years. Located close to Macy’s so while the wife is shopping you can high tale it over (being careful to use the pedestrian traffic light), and meander around a bit.
Blockbuster isn’t even a contender, and they have nothing to worry about with Netflix, Interact is in it’s own vertical market and it does it very well.

Seriously there’s nothing bad about this store. The one flaw, if you want to call it that, is someone else might have been quicker than you and picked up that dvd you wanted. But it will probably be back in a couple weeks.
I love that there are dvds you probably say to yourself i should own that because its funny or people like it but you can’t justify paying full price for it. Then you see it here for $ 2 or $ 3 and you’re sold!
I picked up my copy of Freaks and Geeks (Best show ever!) here used for a great price. It’s not a huge store but they’ve definitely got quality. Go sell your old dvds you don’t want anymore, you’ll get better money here than you will anywhere else!
Oh yeah… and they rent movies!

Five stars and props for maintaining an independent used software/​dvd store in the midst of the franchise retail hell that South Lake has become.

I love this place — I have been going here since 1994 — when it was on Holly Street in Old Town and he had a «Micky and Mallory shop here» sign on the street (Natural Born Killers reference, it had just come out).
Of course — back then it was «Interact CDROM Store» and all that was were PC CD games with a large porn CD (VCD, picture) selection. Mech Warrior was the first thing I bought — and the 1^st thing I «traded.»
Also, all the CDs were actually IN the CD cases. It took about a year or two before they actually took the CDs out and had a catalog system.
I remember them having a free coke machine a few years ago and a bunch of us would spend hours going through all the DVDs looking for that one randomly misplaced awesome DVD.
Now it’s all movie DVDs, porn DVDs, rental DVDs, and PC programs/​games and it’s new location on Lake. There are a lot of great DVDs to buy here, and the only thing is you do have to do a little legwork because for whatever reason, some people move stuff around a bit too much.
Also, if your significant other sends you on a mission to buy something like The Notebook — this is the place to do it. You can quietly get it, and the only other person in line will most likely have «GangBang Girls #10: Twins Edition» and will not say anything about you buying The Notebook.
