Myself and my company have been a customer for years. The aroma of the place and all of its little confections are quite welcoming indeed. One thing they’ve been failing at terribly is customer service and barista bar quality. It’s sometimes tough to get waited on even with nobody in the store. The girls working the counter treat you as a nuisance who is interrupting their time on their phones. It’s gotten bad, but This past weekend I went in to order an espresso. The girl working barista was cold, rude and served me the worst excuse for an espresso that I have ever had in my life. She clearly has no clue, pride or care in coffee making. I take the time to write a review hoping they will improve. It’s embarrassing having tourists staying at the Fairmont, or anywhere else, walk to Market Square and expect a great coffee or espresso from a quaint little shop but instead receive rude treatment and terrible espresso. I hope they address the issue. We do buy at least 10lb of beans a month there, probably more.

Nicholas Coffee is my go-to coffee spot in Pittsburgh. I was a loyal Dunkin patron for years until I recently discovered this hidden gem thanks to a friend’s recommendation. I love that they feature new flavors every day to keep things interesting. If you bring your own mug, it’s only $ 1.50 for a medium refill. For a good price, you’re getting quality coffee and supporting a local business. Sure, they won’t have your fancy frappuccinos or macchiatos, but they sure know how to brew a simple, steaming cup o’ joe.

That was not a real latte. It was fade, full of foam like a cappuccino, it’s like they didn’t know the difference between both of them. i was quite disapointed.

Really fantastic coffee and a wonderful staff. Far less expensive than the big chains like Starbucks. My favorite thing is their daily special coffee blends; it’s always something amazing that makes you wish they will make it again, and since every day I have that feeling here, I guess it doesn’t matter if they keep changing it up and never rehash old recipes! Thanks for brewing exceptional coffee, one affordable cup at a time, with a very friendly staff.

If you like flavored tea or coffee you definitely need to check out Nicholas. This is my go to for loose leaf tea. Such a wide variety and it smells amazing!

I am in town for work and stumbled upon Nicholas. I’m so glad I did. Walked in and loved the ambience. The owner is awesome and so great, don’t know why anyone would go to Dunkin Donuts a few doors down, unless you prefer crappy coffee. The Panama coffee of the day is the best cup of coffee I have had in over a year.

love the old-timey space with the old roaster and the old coffee-beans bins. the wall of roasty-toasty coffee smell as you walk in the door is mind-blowing and sexual to a coffee lover like myself … i usually just stop in and get a bag of beans, to go. they tend to make the drip coffee too weak/thin for my taste but i end up with excellent results when I make my own at home with the beans they sell. great selection of tea, candies & cigars, too … check out the old industrial-strength coffee roasting machinery in the rear of the place … they can roast up to 300 lbs of beans, at a time …

Nicholas Coffee has a huge selection of coffee beans and loose leaf tea. It also has cute candies and cookies that you don’t see any where else. So altogether, it’s a neat little place to have in downtown Pittsburgh. However, I can’t say the service has been that great, especially when it comes to ordering prepared drinks. There are usually two girls working here. One of them can be quite rude, while the other one is nice, but always tends to mess up my drink. So no matter who you get, it’s a lose. The taste of the drinks(when they’re correct) is usually pretty good. If you’re here to buy beans, this is the place in town to go.

My son and I stopped in here since he wanted to buy coffee. I looked around since it has been quite some time from my last visit here. They specialize in both coffee and tea. They have the tea brands you would normally see in a grocery store. They also sell items to press your coffee as well as tea infusers to name a few. In the back there is a take out area if you want to order coffee, tea, or a sweet snack to boot. The place was so crowded that a man asked us if we were in line. Both of us couldn’t tell since we saw two groups of people opposite each other. Since we were headed to see a show, my son did not want to wait around to order his coffee. I really didn’t get to try anything here but since I am familiar with the brands they carry it is nothing new than what you get at the grocery store. My son told me the coffee here is good so will have to check it out again on a future visit.

Rude. That’s the first word that comes to mind. When my fiancé and I came into town I was excited to see what looks like a small interesting coffee shop. And that about sums it up… it looks that way. When you walk in you are hit with delicious aromas of coffee. They have lots of interesting treats and teas. I was so excited while standing in line. Then the service. First, the girl at the register practically threw the man ahead of us back his credit card. He didn’t make a comment but I thought, rude. When it was our turn I asked for a cappuccino and questioned what kind of milk they have. She responded«uh, 2%» like I was stupid(rude) then the guy behind her said«anything you want really»(not so rude) and so I asked for a whole milk cappuccino. What I received was a whole milk latte. It’s a coffee shop at least get the drink craft down. I can’t drink the amount of milk in lattes. I didn’t order a latte. So I walked back apologized for being«that person» and asked for a whole milk cappuccino less hot so I can drink it right away. She said«fine»(Rude). She made me a 2% cappuccino scalding hot. Was it decaf? I don’t know but I wouldn’t put it past her. As she handed it to me she said in a condescending tone«this should be enough foam for you». The foam was light and airy. Very pretty. But this isn’t what I ordered. I burnt my tongue. And am not a fan of the 2%. Rude. So very rude. All I wanted was caffeine and a good experience. I will NEVER come back here.

I’m starting to become a regular now that I’m within an easy walking distance of this charming coffee shop in Market Square. I love the wall of coffee smell that hits you the moment you walk in the door. Hell, I love the wall of coffee itself; they sell whole beans too, and there are just shelves and shelves of it on the left side of the entrance when you walk inside. They also sell teas, candies, mugs, French presses, moka pots, and the like. And that’s all before you get to the counter in the back, where I’ve always had a friendly face to give me a hot cup of coffee. They feature a new roast and a couple of flavors per day, and will be happy to talk to someone who needs guidance in picking which one. The only thing that hasn’t been on point in all my visits is the scone situation. Granted, I have only tried one, but it was not great. It seems the batter was overmixed and not containing enough butterfat, and the product was dry and chewy instead of light and flaky. Trust, I ate every bite with a sip of coffee regardless, but I probably won’t order one again. Instead, I’ll stick to the great coffee and leave the pastry to one of the many other shops that specialize in those.

Nicholas Coffee is my favorite place to get coffee downtown! They have a great variety and everything I have tried was delicious. My favorite drink to get is the white chocolate raspberry latte. They also have a wonderful selection of teas, snacks and sweets. They even sell packs of hippo cookies! :)

Overwhelming in its layout and the abundance of its selection, but the people working here were super genuine and nice and my 16 oz. loose-leaf Georgia peach rooibos was amazing! Yay for tea and coffee coffee coffee(which I have yet to try here).

Tried some chocolate raspberry coffee in those small packs at Penn Mac. It was really good so we returned to the mother ship at Market Square where I could get a whole pound. Large selection, reasonable prices. Brings back memories when I was a little girl and they had huge prunes. Did not see prunes but did see lots of coffee and teas. I was also glad that we could take the bus because parking is not easy or cheap. Nicholas coffee was a treat for my mother, it is a treat for me. When pricing it, remember that most coffee these days is price per 12 oz or ¾ pound. Nicholas is priced by the pound.

Meh. Bad customer service. Staffed by one grunpy adult and a few disinterested high-schoolers. Couldn’t hear to communicate my order over the sound of their diesel-powered 19th Century coffee grinder. NORESTROOMSFORPAYINGCUSTOMERS. Coffee no better than the free stuff at my hotel. Added 1 star because they have almond milk.

Great place. Coffee is fresh ground, better and cheaper than the big name places and the service is great. Also has a good selection of cigars.

I had an iced Americano, but it was very bitter. However, the baristas at the counter were super friendly and sweet. It was also only $ 2 for a medium, which makes it up right. I would like to try some of their unique coffee blends the next time I come. You can also buy beans to brew your own coffee, and there are tons of options to choose from.

I had a short layover in Pittsburgh and was hoping to get a quality caffeine fix in the morning for my afternoon flight. Nicholas’s Coffee Co. was closest to my hotel so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the ‘Coffee of the Day’ and they offered me three different roasts. I chose the coconut roast and ordered a chocolate covered macaroon on the side. The coffee was absolutely delicious– a really nice taste and not overly«coconuty» — I’m already craving another cup. The macaroon was very rich but paired well with the coffee. The atmosphere at Nicholas’s is super cute. Very eclectic and quaint– really took you back to a simpler time. My only upset was that I was hoping to sit inside and enjoy the vibes. There is no inside seating and it was very cold and rainy outside– so I just had to grab-n-go.

Great coffee beans! The folks who work here know coffee. They roast the beans right here, and they can describe the properties of each. If you’re a coffee purist, do not be put off by all the pre-flavored beans you’ll see toward the front. I suppose they sell plenty of those to walk-ups from Market Square. The GOODSTUFF(non-flavored) is toward the back. To top it off, their prices are reasonable for their beans. Not cheap(you do get what you pay for with coffee), but not jacked-up, either. Nice.

The owner, Nicholas G Nicholas needs to attend a few driving classes before he kills someone. Maybe too much hp for him. If you see an 08 white porsche with FL plate 917MNC stay clear. Guy drives like a nut. Almost ran me off the road in Boca Raton by 95.

This hidden gem, tucked away in the corner of Market Square in downtown Pittsburgh, offers more than just coffee. Sure, it’s easy to be lazy and unadventurous and go to Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks, but why not take a chance and support a Pittsburgh staple since the 1800s? They must be doing something right to stay around that long. They also roast their beans in-house…in Market Square. Amazing. Nicholas Coffee Co. has a unique ambiance. I’d say it’s vintage bookstore chic, but your opinion and description may differ. With a HUGE selection of coffee, fresh baked goods from local vendors, friendly staff, and a humidor for the casual cigar aficionado, there’s a little something for everyone. The coffee by the cup is very reasonably priced, and you can buy coffee in bulk, or buy a few sample packs to find your favorite brew before buying by the pound.

Coffee addicts: I have your answer to coffee grounds. As a self-acknowledged coffee addict, I am very particular about my coffee based on the taste as well as acidity. I tend to like mellow and dark flavored coffee and Nicholas has what I need. My favorite blend there is the Olde Vienna roast. They will customize the courseness of your grounds based on your coffee maker which I appreciate. They also have a frequent flyer card which allows you to get a free pound of coffee after ten visits. The coffee bean counter is to the left when you enter and their café is to the right. Although I have never tried the coffee from the café, the prices are very reasonable and are made from the coffee they sell there. This place is my go-to for coffee grounds!

Don’t have too much to add here that hasn’t already been said. This is a very unique and special gem in the middle of Market Square. The quality of the coffee is very good. The staff are very friendly. The décor and ambience is quite unparalleled to other places in the city. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well priced the drinks were. I wish, however, there were more places to sit and chill inside as well as outside on the square. I will definitely stop in here again.

Excellent coffee. Really, you want more of a review than that? Oh, okay. I’ll try I’ll try. It’s a small coffeeshop as well as, I believe, roasting facility. So it looks and smells like amazing coffee and tea. In fact, i kind of loved standing in line for my coffee because of how cool the shop is. Added bonus, they have odd candies — including Mozart chocolates and candy cigarettes. That’s awesome! But yes, coffee was great and the biscotti was unique and wonderful.
