Bender Properties

I rented a 1 BR through Bender Properties for several years, until December 2014.
I found Jill Bender to be very friendly and responsive to any concerns. Concerning yard work (which some other reviewers have criticized), I had no problems at all. In fact, I was in a fourplex with a large yard and some huge trees with MANY leaves — Bender went out of their way to keep things cleaned up.

The agents at Bender Properties tend to be rude and dismissive.
Moving in, in the middle of fall, there was a lot of yard work to be done. In fact, it seemed as though there was 2 – 3 years worth of leaves to be raked. I cleaned it up, and didn’t say a word… They had been very clear upon moving in, that I was responsible for yard work. They called, asking why I was putting out 2 bins of yard waste instead of 1, and asked me to stop putting out 2 bins. I think that extra bin costs around $ 5-​$ 10 /​week. Therefore it took me about 3 months to rid my backyard of leaves.
They have also shown up with an hours notice, and let themselves in.
Now our furnace is broken. It broke on a Friday, and the feedback I’m getting from Bender’s agents is that it’ll probably take about a week to get someone out here, because they don’t want to pay the weekend time and ½, and most places are booked up through next week.
If you’re thinking of renting from Bender, look elsewhere. Their properties seem to be overpriced, and they haven’t made any of the fixes that they said they were going to, a year ago.

Been living in a place managed by Bender Properties for over a year and have been very happy with them.

A friend of mine just asked me about renting a place, so I recommended checking out Bender Properties.
I rented from Bender Properties back in 1995 – 96. Janice was very easy to work with and moving in and out went very smoothly. We only had a few maintenance issues during our time there, but they were taken care of very quickly.
I know it was a long time ago, but I don’t remember being charged any outrageous fees at either move in or move out. I tend to remember bad experiences way better than bad ones so I think I would remember.
I would definitely rent from this company again.

I lived at a Bender Property Rental for 2 ½ years. One time my electrical panel was on fire and they made me wait till Monday to get it fixed. My 20 year old refrigerator was an electricity hog and they refused to replace even when I needed a repair man to come several times and he even used a piece of duct tape to hold the shelf on. The bathroom was so rusty I’m certain it caused health problems I repeatedly asked them to do something about it but they ONLY FIX what is legally an issue — they don’t actually care about their residents personally AT ALL.
I wasn’t on a lease but they constantly raised the rent starting 2 months after we moved in they raised it $ 25, then a little while later $ 25 a month more, then again $ 50 a month more — all during only 2 ½ years living there. Our shower and toilet were leaking and they just completely ignored us.
We are usually homeowners so since this is our second rental since owning a home we cleaned and left it much cleaner than when we moved in. I even steam cleaned repeatedly. They are pretty unethical — because we left the apartment and grounds in better condition than when we got it and even prepped it for the next people and they charged me $ 250 for painting when the walls were not painted when we moved in and we even went as far to repair holes that were there WHEN we moved in and primed some normal wear and tear areas. We also steamed cleaned the entire apartment repeatedly but they charged us $ 250 to steam clean again (which is within the law but was not necessary) they replaced some carpet pad for a carpet that was already old when we got it.
The worst part is I feel foolish for working so hard for 4 days to clean the apartment when they are obviously completely unethical and only are concerned with making money. They may have charged us what was allowable by LAW but that doesn’t mean they aren’t screwing us.
I’m going to send them a letter and I will update this if they make amends with this situation. I’ve heard that the actual owner is a tightwad but with the cleaning and painting fee — I can tell that they were just being opportunistic.

I rented from Bender for 4 years, and they were wonderful. They maintained the property very well, and dealt with any neighbor complaints. I would rent from them again.

Gail Davis is the «BOMB». We just relocated from San Francisco via Atlanta and we have worked with plenty of Realtors in the past years, however none of them compare to Gail. If it was not for Gail we would not have gotten our DREAM HOME.
We are so thankful to her for all her hard work and all the extra information she has provided to us from restaurants to contractors.
Gail is not only our Realtor, she is now our Friend.

Being fussy, picky, crazy house hunters we have put every realtor we’ve ever worked with to the test. Gail Davis at Bender was incredible. She has a great understanding of the market, and she is very knowledgeable about Portland neighborhoods and history. She was fun to work with, and after the sale she has referred us to some really great contractors.
