Black rose collective DESERVES your support. Even if you’re not keen on the whole anarchist part, it’s still good for the community. Donate stuff you don’t want, pick up something you need for free. If you are down with the whole anarchist part, there are plenty of zines, reading materials, and other things that could be cool for you. Also, there is free coffee and internet too.

The Black Rose is a most wonderful collective of free-thinking agents of radical change. If you want to feel good about yourself you can check the address into your memory and go into this place now and then. If you have a portable project you’re working on take it there and sit and work. If you spend time in places like this one you can’t be in places that suck your soul out of you. This place will give you soul! I carry some of the books from this collective in my store and so far it has been a very good experience.

oh sweet, sweet dirty land of free! i love black rose for all of the free treasures i find, for the eclectic music blaring, for the zines and books galore, for the dirty couch to read them on, for the late night dance parties, for the adorable traveling kids with cuddle worthy dogs and for all the the potential it has for the community and more..

I just recently started volunteering at Black Rose, and wanted to give some information on the place. Black Rose is an amazing place, full of warm and friendly people. We carry many new books, on a variety of radical subjects. We carry a variety of great local music, and our freecycle is constantly getting in new and great stuff, so you should definitely check that out as well. We also have a lending library, where for a small donation you can get your very own library card, and check out books for up to three weeks! We’re open from noon the eight, everyday. It’s a great place, with a wonderful welcoming vibe, and we’d love it if you would stop by.

Black Rose is a bookstore(selling both new and used titles) as well as a Freecycle site. During walks down Mississippi I often stop in front of Black Rose to pick through the freecycled items on the sidewalk in front of the store, and have occasionally really scored: I got my copy of The Joy of Cooking, there, for instance, and several editions of the Harvard Classics. The store itself carries a wide selection of zines and literature, and emphasizes radical nonfiction, commentary and history(this would be the place to get your Chomsky fix). Unfortunately, the web link to this store(which came up in a Google search) doesn’t seem to go anywhere. And it seems to keep pretty sporadic hours, so it may be difficult to actually plan a trip to Black Rose. If you are in the neighborhood, however, and it’s open, it’s pretty much always worth a peek.
