Cuttle Fish And Corals

Came in for «small business saturday» for some killer deals. Got there shortly after opening and it was super busy. There wasn’t any organization for «who got there first» and a girl walked in before me and the guy in front of me and got 2 of the last 4 clownfish. The guy in front of me got the last 2 and had 2 more rainchecked. I had driven up 2 hours specifically for the clowns, so I was a bit disappointed to not be able to get any and didn’t plan to drive up again to pick up.
The store is small but well stocked. The staff seems knowledgeable and they have a fantastic variety of frags available. Very reasonably priced, and if I am in the area I will for sure be back!

One word for you. Seahorses. Nuff said. Go here now and visit these magical mystical creatures.

this is the best of all tropical aquarium stores. the staff is very knowledgeable, the place clean and well-​ventilated (something you actually don’t usually see, for some reason), the stock healthy and well-​quarantined (something to watch out for when you are looking to put a new fish or coral into the delicate eco-​system that is your tank), and the selection is outstanding. jeff, the owner has a thriving business, and there’s a good reason for that: he is very service-​oriented, he stocks state of the art equipment, his prices are very reasonable, he will give you very good tips and advice about what to buy, and he’s a very SANE man. to whit, i saw him handle a jerk who called him «a dick» for politely telling said jerk’s 4 year old daughter not to touch the water when she stuck her hand in a tank. he was very firm, did not apologize, but never lost his temper while the jerk railed on. it really increased my respect for a man i already respected.

This is the only place we go to get fish, water, or corals for our reef aquarium. Not only is Jeff friendly and INCREDIBLY knowledgeable but he remembers his regular customers which can’t be easy.
All of the tanks are super clean and all the life is healthy. Whenever we’ve had issues him or one of his friendly staff has had advice for us that helped resolve our issue better than any online research.

Awesome shop. Aquariums are all kept very clean. Corals all happy and a good selection of designer Zoas super happy I stopped by on the way home.

I’ve had aquariums for years and been in many aquarium shops from New York City, to Hong Kong, to Seattle, etc. … This shop is the best. So many shops are dirty, smell, and dank. This place is clean, bright and fresh. And it’s specialized — all salt water and serious about it. They have great fish, soft and hard corals, invertebrates, tanks, gear, supplies, etc. But the thing that sets them apart is the expertise and friendly, helpful service. They gladly answer questions, provide advice, and will even come to your home to set up your tank — and come back later to make sure all is well. This is the place for salt water aquariums in Portland.

Great store, and owner. Jeff is always willing to help. I came in here on a whim one day earlier this year. A friend was at the Mississippi District and sent a photo of the store. It took me a few months to decide to drop in, and I’m sure glad I did! Setup is very nice, with lots of livestock to pick from. Jeff gives good advice and offers information upon request.
Bought items here, and will be back.

Great reef shop. Awesome coral selection, healthy fish and the owner is a very knowledgable guy. Highly recommended. They do get a lot of people just looking, so be ready for big crowds of gawking spectators.

For work I have traveled to different major cities, and at each city I try and stop by a reef shop before heading home. This is by far one of the best coral & fish stores I have been to! The pricing is VERY good considering the high-​end SPS you can get, the zoanthids, LPS, and other corals are all very healthy, all the frags are healed and healthy! The fish are healthy and they often have hard to find fish available. The owner Jeff helped me pack up a cooler to take all of my goodies home with me, I ended up getting a flame wrasse pair, labouti wrasse, inferno anemone and several SPS frags (all amazing colors and thriving in my system). I have since returned 2x and even convinced my wife to drive with me 6 hours to Portland to see this shop since I cannot find any thing to compare in Spokane.
The only thing I could wish for would be more online posts, the locals here are spoiled and can go into the shop every week when they get shipments in to cherry pick.

We stopped by in the middle of business hours and the front door was open but blocked with a fan. When I asked if they are open one of the two gentleman responded with, «kind of,» and they both looked at me like I had antlers. Weird. We left and decided to spend money at a business that knows if they are open.

Great store. Lots of fun to look through all the tanks to see what new creatures they have. We got a 10 gallon salt water set up and had it delivered. Jeff showed up and set it all up for us and answered all of our questions. When ever I have any questions I can just send him an email and they respond very quickly. Super awesome customer service! And beautiful tanks and fish!

I’ve been in the hobby a long time now (about 15 years) and Jeff is one of the nicest LFS owners I have ever come across. Someone who genuinely cares about his customers and who has a love for the livestock in his store.
This is a cool spot you should check out if you are in the Hobby, or just wanna see something amazing behind acrylic.

Great place for coral and salt water fish. Jeff is the owner/​operator and is very knowledgable and one of the nicest guys you will meet. He will come out to your house and set up your tank for you. He set me up with a 16 gallon nano tank. Jeff has a wide variety of fish and coral with lots of new additions every week. The fish and coral are all sustainable meaning they were tank raised, not taken from the wild. Highly recommended!

Outstanding healthy specimens. Ive spent time in this store since it was first opening up, and the owner (and now staff) are true masters of reeftanks.
The animals are always healthy, and this importance of this cannot be overstated. This store is built for sustainable reefkeeping, it is ethical, they are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and the animals are not only ecologically responsible (aquacultured usually), but well cared for.
Having been in countless aquarium stores up and down the entire West Coast and Midwest, including wholesalers, let me assure you this is the top tier of ethical reefkeeping and extremely healthy animals.
They successfully keep basket-​starfish (crinoids) alive — this is a testament to their care for delicate living things.
This store does not kill animals for $, and the same cannot be said of a large number of aquaria shops.
I would give this store and its owner 6 stars if Unilocal allowed.

Oh my! Seahorses! I love the seahorses!
Imagine my joy when I walked into Cuttle Fish and Corals and saw the colorful seahorses, the bright clear tanks, the live rock, the fish, and the helpful voice of Shaun, who explained all about buying cultured seahorses, the needs of salt-​water tanks, and who showed me pictures of the seahorses on *his* bucket list :-)
This is a fabulous store, and a fabulous representative of the store and the life aquatic. A walk into Cuttle Fish and Corals is well worth it!

What a CUTE little shop !! We were just walking by and decided to check the place out! My favorite was the SEAHORSE… I just couldn’t walk away! They seem like a mythical creature. Not something you see everyday. Such pretty fish, salt water tanks. The black lights definitely add a nice touch and make all the fishes and live corals stand out. We were greeted as we walked in. Clean & quaint shop. If your into fish I recommend checking this place out.

Visited this weekend and loved it! Tiny shop but they guys are well organized, nice, and the shop is great. I loved how clean and bright it was! I haven’t yet owned a saltwater tank, but the way they showed me the setup with the fish, coral, and tank for a few hundred bucks I can’t wait to get one for my office when we’re done remodeling! If anyone wants to buy me one, let me know! :)

I recently dove in to the world of the reef/​marine aquarium hobby. After visiting several locations around the Portland area, I determined that Cuttle Fish and Corals was the right choice for me and my family. It has a fairly central location in a great neighborhood (Mississippi) which allows one to extend the trip to include a great lunch and some shopping if desired at one of the many local businesses. After speaking with the owner, Jeff, I learned that he had more than a decade of experience managing the largest aquarium operations and maintenance outfit in the State of Colorado. Between the location, sustainable tank-​based aqua-​culturing, experience and personal enthusiasm for the hobby, I opted to do business with him.
The choice was an excellent one. He is extremely pleasant to work with, a straight shooter and will help you to be successful with your marine aquarium regardless of your level of expertise. There is a commitment required to care for any living creatures so don’t fool yourself if you think things will just run themselves, but Jeff will be very clear to set your expectations and will help you evaluate what level of commitment you are willing to handle and then tailor fit a solution for the best possible outcomes. For those who want to enjoy the beauty of an aquarium, but require some assistance with maintenance and upkeep, Jeff will work with you to find a solution as he does arrange for house-​calls on the operations side of things.
We took advantage of Jeff’s expertise to help us get a jump-​start on our setup by having him recommend lights, protein skimmer, accessories, corals and fish from among our interests and after selecting our tank in order to assure success. Jeff came out and performed the entire setup and training in one simple morning visit at a very compelling rate (ask him about this). We have had our tank setup now for more than 3 months and have had a continually top-​notch experience working with Jeff. He has been available by phone and text message to attend to our questions, and has nurtured our growing knowledge and expertise. We are now completely addicted to the hobby and enjoying a beautiful underwater marine reef ecosystem right in our home! Thanks Jeff!
The shop is a great place to drop by and eye-​ball your next addition to your ecosystem (go ahead… just try to control yourself), talk with Jeff and other enthusiasts, and watch the droves of people coming in to ooohhh and aaahhh at the eye-​candy. Perhaps the next victims to succumb to the allure of the hobby… and … from those perspectives, this is more than just a retail location, it is a growing community. It is my understanding that Jeff may be expanding significantly in the coming months in to the neighboring building which alludes to the success he is presently enjoying and is sure to continue to have.

This is one of Pdx best saltwater fish store I have been in. The owner is really knowledgeable about the hobby and always willing to answer questions. It’s also very clean and has some amazing corals and fish

My wife and I were walking down Mississippi a few weeks ago and stopped in this little shop. It was busy and there was a lot to look at. Everything is really nicely presented, and the shop is very clean.
We started talking to the owner, Jeff, and realized this was not your average fish shop. Imagine your standard aquarium store: Dark, humid, damp smelling. Rows and Rows of fish of all sorts. Shelves stacked high with confusing looking equipment.
That’s not what you get here. The store is brightly lit and well organized. Jeff, the owner, has a great system for potential customers. He puts together an all in one package: tank, fish, corals, rock, sand, water. He comes out to your house and sets it all up and teaches you about it for a nominal fee. You don’t have to figure out what fish get along with each other, or which corals need which lights, because he already has.
Cuttlefish and Corals makes owning a saltwater coral reef tank easy.

The cleanest and most educated saltwater fish shop in Portland. Amazing selection and great prices. And to top it off, sustainable! Love this place!
