Established in 2005.

Green Apple Dental started as a husband and wife team and now has 4 dental partners and 2 locations. Years of hard work, doing our best to make Portlanders have a happy and healthy smile. The best part is that we get to meet our neighbors and work with the community. Both our Downtown and Eastside offices are welcoming new patients everyday! WE LOVE PORTLAND. Horrible practice. I showed up for my appointment (which I had a card for with the time written down) and was told I had no appointment. I made another appointment and managed to get seen. When I made the appointment for my yearly cleaning, I was told that the dentist who had done the restorative work was… just…gone. I asked where she moved to, and was told she was staying home with her kids. Really? Google told me that she had started her own practice. Then, two days before my appointment for the yearly cleaning, I got a message from GAD saying that they had sold the practice and the new owners didn’t take my insurance, but they would be happy to send my records to another dentist. Two months later and I still can’t get my records. Green Apple Dental is the worst dental practice I have ever used. Stay far, far away!

Green Apple Dental was sold to Columbia Square Dental… and they are HORRIBLE! This happened a few months ago– I had changed jobs, and insurance… so before making my appointment, I spoke to the receptionist who ensured me that they were in network with Aetna. Again as I checked in for my cleaning, confirmed they were in network and I was good to go. As soon as I walked out of my cleaning I was confronted with a $ 300 bill!!! The receptionist said «I just checked, and we aren’t in network… sorry». Seriously?!? I ended up having to pay them out of pocket… talk about bait and switch. I will NEVER EVER go here again, and never recommend this office to anyone.

The whole mini spa aspect is not one that I require– I’ve had a recurrent tooth infection that in my opinion is an emergency, since it became systemic and almost killed me.
I went to this dentist hoping to get a least one tooth out ASAP, but was told that I had to wait 4 – 6 weeks for insurance approval. While I understand that might be the case for dental work that can be put off, I don’t think it’s healthy to keep a patient with a severe, systemic infection on antibiotics for an infection that can’t be cured for two more months after the infection has already been undiagnosed for several YEARS and ruined several teeth. This will be my sixth round of antibiotics for an EMERGENCY tooth infection– my tooth should have been pulled by a responsible dentist the day it was discovered, in May. It is not simply the insurance that is a problem– it is this dentist and others who are simply callous to the suffering of patients. I don’t want a prescription for oxycodone. I want the tooth out, ASAP. My gums are swollen and sore, another tooth has broken since the first one, I’ve had a severe sinus infection, and yes, I did almost die because this infection was undiagnosed. What is the hold up in correctly diagnosing an EMERGENCY for your patients and referring them to someone who can do the emergency tooth pull, if you can’t? I feel very disrespected.

I’m writing this review because I’m going to have to get my wisdom teeth pulled soon, and the first thing that came to mind was «What if I had to get it done at Green Apple?!» Then there was cringing, and then relief that I don’t have to go there ever again. I’ve been in their office three times. The first time was for a general checkup. I’d never been in a dentist’s office like Green Apple. While I was waiting in the chair I could not only hear the root canal being done next to me, but I could see it as well. Slightly off putting, but not too bad. Then a dentist came in (30 minutes later) to discuss my x-​rays. She said I had four cavities that needed filling. I also had chipped my front tooth a while back, and she suggested we use a filling for that as well.
The second time, I came in for my appointment, missed work for it even, and they had absolutely no record of it. They sent me away with a new appointment time, even though I still had the card they’d given me with the appointment date. Still not a big deal, though I’ve got a bad taste in my mouth at this point.
Finally I come in for the third time for an appointment that actually exists. The dentist who was supposed to be doing my fillings and sealants wasn’t in that week. They had a doctor from another dental office there in her place. Thank goodness for that. Of the five fillings I was going to get, he said I really only needed one. The one for my chipped tooth would have popped out in a few days, wasting me a bunch of money. The other three he said he couldn’t «morally» perform for me, as he’d have to drill a hole to fill because there weren’t actually cavities there.
He called up a woman from the front desk, told her what my new cost would be, and she seemed devastated. I went from having to spend a few hundred dollars to $ 40! Couldn’t be happier, but I’m never going back to that rotten apple of a dental office.

My husband and I have been coming here for years and we really like it.
First, they’re open from 7am-​7pm which is great for all the worker bees. Second, it’s like a mini-​spa with paraffin hand treatments and a focus on making you feel relaxed. Third, the dentist is great– I don’t feel like I’m getting stuff recommended that I don’t need and he’s fast and thorough.
I just had my wisdom teeth out the other day and I was expecting it to be really painful but the surgeon was awesome– patient with my nerves offering me nitrous (which I highly recommend taking) to calm down and then it only took maybe 10 minutes to pull all four. Since I had a late appointment and couldn’t get to the pharmacy he sent me home with some Motrin since I didn’t have any and was very helpful.
They are conveniently located and validate parking which is awesome. If you’re in the market for a dentist I recommend this place!

1) The receptionists are apathetic and don’t seem interested in doing their jobs or smiling.
2) The dentist said that, with a cavity in a bottom wisdom tooth, I should probably get it pulled. But if not, he’d do a silver filling because it was so hard to get to. Would I like some laughing gas?
3) They asked for half the fee of the tooth pulling appointment when I set it up. Not mandatory, but it seemed really bizarre for a dentist.
I had a gut icky feeling throughout the rest of the day afterwards. I cancelled the tooth pulling appointment, made a new one (Murray Hill Family Dental), enjoyed friendly helpful competent receptionists, a great staff and a solid dentist who had no qualms filling the tooth with amalgam (saying that silver was not even used any more) and that there was no reason to pull it, but if I really wanted to then the top one should be pulled as well so that it didn’t lengthen over time (something that Dr. Bird didn’t even mention).
4) I called Green Apple to get a reimbursement. They said that they would send me a check. Two months later I had received nothing. I called again and, with no apology, said it had gotten hung up in paperwork. I could pick up a check tomorrow. I asked them to mail it.
Sooo done with them. Absolutely not worth the personal music and paraffin hand massage. Just gimmicks to hide poor service.

So far so good. I’ve been 2x and they did a brilliant job with my fillings. The dentist was funny and the assistants were all friendly. I only had issues with two things — which I addressed and they actually listened to me so that’s why the score isn’t lower.
(I might add that I work for my insurance company and know more than … Probably most providers do about insurance.)
First issue was the dentist was pretty insistent that my insurance wouldn’t cover iv sedation for my wisdom teeth but I should do it and pay for it out of pocket. So I had to have them submit a predtermination (which they messed up horribly once and then did correctly the second time, after I told them what to fix). So that came back and it said my out of pocket would be ~240. Not bad. But then I called to schedule and they demanded $ 508 up front before I could even schedule it! Yikes. I called back and informed the (very friendly) assistant that $ 508 was way more than my determination said. We promptly got it scheduled but I still paid $ 284 instead. That’s fine. Whatever.
Second problem was they asked for the money ahead of time for my fillings, which I paid, no big deal. And then when the claim went through, my out of pocket was only 148. Which I had to explain to the assistant.
Now, I won’t judge them for not knowing much about insurance… But I’m lucky I do. To all of you out there who don’t, I advise you’re always checking. No provider will come out and say you paid too much, here’s some back. Half the time they won’t even understand. But I’m glad the assistant I talked to was open about listening to me explain and finally got it corrected.

I have several cavity restorations from Green Apple theat are less than 5 years old and that are now failing, deteriorating, and need replacement. I have diligently taken care of my dental work and am extremely disappointed that I have to pay for all of this again in time, money, and pain. Two thumbs down!

Please get rid of the customer service team and office management team. I have never dealt with such moody, rude women in my life. If I could remember their names, I would call them out. I felt like I was being helped by a bunch of snotty, starbucks drinking, rich girls who don’t care about your dental situation. Their facial expressions and annoying little mannerisms will make me never come back.
This may seem outrageous to you, but I’m not kidding when I say it’s run by rude women and you need to get some professionals in there who can run an office.
I went to gentle dental and received the BEST customer service I’ve ever received in an office. Even the office manager came into the exam room and introduced herself.
It’s interesting to me that an office that offers little extras like ipods, temple rubs, and other fluffy crap has such terrible service and an office like gentle dental that’s less expensive and has no extras except good customer service and good dental care.
I wouldn’t recommend it. You’ll pay more for rude service and shit you don’t need.

First of all, the staff, while they tried hard, are VERY unprofessional; a girl (yes GIRL because she looked 12) in a mini dress took my xrays. Didn’t instill a lot of confidence. Secondly, the dentist was RUDE to staff, grunting at them or completely ignoring them when they were trying their hardest to provide good customer service. Thirdly, the staff was extremely FORMAL with the dentist, almost FRIGHTENED of the dentist. Fourthly (is that word??) I had to wait over 30 min. and they told me that was basically MY problem, that I should have planned for more time.
I could go on… and I will a bit. This is a CLINIC, which is fine, but that means no consistency (a crap shoot on who will be in your mouth) and no privacy. Only partial walls/​screens separated me from other patients and I could hear EVERYTHING (doesn’t HIPPA apply in dental environments??). When the dentist finally saw me, she must have just seen a bankroll on two feet. Right way, I could hear the register chinging…2−3 crowns, a root canal, etc. What I found ironic is the things that I know ARE wrong with my teeth (two «dead» front teeth with no nerves… birth defect or the result of braces), she never even mentioned! She barely LOOKED at my xrays. It was almost SCRIPTED what she was saying to me! I have always been COMMENDED by dentists for my healthy teeth and gums; I go religiously every six months, so all hell could NOT have broken lose in that short a period of time.
Funny how as soon as the dentist left, I was handed an estimate of expenses… I felt like a Volvo up on the rack… it floors me how it was prepared so quickly when this was my FIRST visit; my chair was still warm — I think my butt was still IN the chair. Seemed very «profit» oriented. I can hear coins dropping as I write!
As I left, I was handed a «welcome» gift. A bag with a one-​size-​fits-​all mouth tray and syringe. That was it. Seriously??? It was supposedly a tooth bleaching kit. No directions, no nothing. For all I know, there could be CLOROX in that thing!
Found another dentist, not a «clinic» who said all I needed was a filling replaced, otherwise extremely healthy gums and teeth. Go figure as this is what I’ve been told all my life!
Don’t do it!

I have been coming here since they opened. Very sad that the service, quality and care of gone so downhill. I did become a member but will find a new dentist as soon as that expires. The staff is constantly turning over included the dentists. This makes it very difficult to have consistent care for ongoing problems.
When I came for my last appointment there was again a new dentist and hygienist. I was not offered any of the extra amenities and received base line care. After my visit the dentist was going to review my file to make a decision on a problem tooth. She assured me that I would hear back from her that evening. Well that was a month ago and of course no one has followed up. I will be moving on as soon as I can.

This office staff is horrible and rude. They are almost looking for a confrontation. It is all about how much money they can get out of your wallet. The care here is absolutely horrible. I can’t believe any one gave this place good reviews unless it was from their parents.

Its sad to read the negative reviews of this place. I think its a very nice office, pleasant surroundings, kind staff, and I’ve had no problems with service at any time. I have had one cavity since starting to go there in 2008, so I’m not sure why reviewer Mary Sue D. believes they are trying to gouge folks into filling cavities they don’t have. Anyway, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant, relaxing dental experience (is that an oxymoron)?

I have seen and read the bad reviews and frankly, I am surprised! Nobody loves to go to the dentist, that is for sure, and it is sad that some folks had a bad experience, because my experience has been nothing but excellent so far! That being said, there will always be good and bad with any business, but I think that often people are quicker to tell about their negative experiences than their positive ones.
Frankly, more dentist offices need to sit up and take notice of this business model! The extra pampering, while not necessary, helps get you in a more relaxed state of mind. And offering headphones with a variety of ipods to choose from to listen to while being worked on is absolutely BRILLIANT! It truly helped, not only relax me, but also take my mind off that awful sound that a drill makes!
I certainly can not and will not speak for all the dentists there, but my experience with Dr. Russ Bird was nothing but professional. I would definitely recommend him to any of my friends.

WOW, just had a very surreal experience here. Dr Kim got furious with me and chewed me out and nearly threw me out for asking him questions. I could go into the exact conversation, but won’t bore you.
Bottom line is that my front tooth got broken as a kid and now the fake tooth that is there is having problems… pardon me for wanting to have a front tooth and pardon me for asking what my options are when I am about to come out of pocket for several thousand dollars!
All I was trying to do was to figure out what my options were and I was trying to see if I could prolong the need to shuck out thousands of dollars for a year or two because I really don’t have the money right now, but would like to have a front tooth.
Trust me… don’t go here because if you ask the doctor too many questions he will throw you out or do like he did me… he did a half ass job putting my tooth back in and now my bite is all messed up and the fix will likely not last until I get back to Indiana. Plus I have cement all over my other teeth and my lips now!
Dr. Kim is a thin skinned hot head and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody!

I dread seeing the dentist. In fact I tend to cry (tears only, no audible *boo hoo’s*) when anyone gets anywhere near my gums, let alone starts scraping near them with a sharp object. This is where nitrous comes in handy. Their willingness to help me feel comfortable is another reason I will rate Dr. Suk and her team so highly.
From the reception to the Hygienist and onto Dr. Suk, everyone here seems to genuinely care. The hand wax, iPod with Bose noise canceling headphones, and aromatherapy are all little extras that help soothe my mind. I can’t say enough great things about this office; great staff, great service!

I was a customer of Green Apple for four years. At first, I loved the office, thought the dentist was nice, and was over-​all wowed by the experience. Except, for the first time in my life, I had cavities. In all my 26 years, I had never had one and all of a sudden I was having them every appointment (my previous dentist told me I didn’t even need to come every 6 months, my teeth were in such good shape). In addition, they even found a cavity under a cavity that had already been filled!
On my last visit in 2008, I had come off a week where I lost my job and the dentist told me I needed three cavities filled — and that my insurance didn’t cover it. Instead of doing the work, I freaked out about money and decided to wait. A year and a half later, I changed dentists who did x-​rays and told me that I had NO CAVITIES. I don’t know everything about teeth, but I am pretty sure they don’t de-​cavity themselves.
I am not going to say that Green Apple swindles people, but I do think they are more inclined to fill cavities that might not need to be. For example, my new dentist only found one spot that might need it, but she said it was in the enamel and that sometimes those spots will take 20 years to progress, if at all. The other spot that she thought they might have found was under the SAME cavity they had already filled twice — because the bonding occasionally leaves a similar dark spot on the x-​ray.
I don’t know about you, but I would MUCH rather have a dentist wait on cavities than drill on me every 6 months. From 2004 to 2008, I had 4 cavities filled. Since 2008? Zero.

I previously wrote them a good review, even gave 5 stars. I started coming here when it was just the small office downtown, with one dentist and a few staff, and I liked it a lot. I didn’t even care that they started getting big, I figured a good thing needs to be more accessible to more people. But their service and quality seems to have suffered.
They did a crown for me and it fell off last week. So I made an appointment at a new dentist to get it fixed. When I went through the process to get my records transferred, the first time they didn’t check the email they gave me to get my release form. In fact, they didn’t do anything. When I called to follow up a few days later, they tried to charge me to release the forms! I was shocked. Then they agreed to waive the charge, and promised to send the files. My appointment is tomorrow, and they still haven’t sent the files. Don’t go to this dentist. Run away.

Up until a couple weeks ago, I hadn’t been to a dentist in 5 – 6 years. I’m not proud, but hey, I was a college student and mostly uninsured. Also, who digs the dentist? Yeah, no one, except maybe dentists and those who have a crush on their dentist.
I did a lot of googling and Unilocaling and finally decided to try this place out. They have great hours; they are one of the only dentist offices around open after 4pm (seriously, wtf Portland) and open on Saturdays. I’m insured, but my boyfriend isn’t and they cater to that so that was a big plus for me.
This place is a trip. During my first visit I was cracking up out of awkwardness when they kept offering me spa-​like treatments: paraffin wax for your hands, scented lotions, aromatherapy for your temples, and specialized ipad minis to listen to while you’re in the chair. I was confused and hesitant to accept anything because it all seemed so strange. This is a dentist, right? White walls that give you nightmares and doctors with hands the size of planets diving into your mouth cave? Nope, not this place.
The décor inside is much more like a Portland home than an office. It’s clean, but comfortable. The lighting is relaxing, and those who work there aren’t that noisy or bustling like I’ve experienced in the past. They have a rhythm that works for them.
Both my first exam and my second for the cleaning were both very pleasant visits. Each assistant and dentist I had contact with was genuinely friendly and accommodating, and always made sure to ask if I was doing okay.
What really sold me was when I warned my dentist before the cleaning that my tongue had a mind of its own, she smiled and joked back with me that it happens a lot. This may not resound with you — but I was expecting an awkward laugh and weirdness, because I am awkward and weird. Alas, not this time! I’m not saying I made a bestie, but I appreciate the laid-​back attitudes everyone has.
I honestly don’t know how their prices compare to other dentists, because I haven’t checked. my insurance paid for the visits and cleaning. I do need more work done, but no way to pay for it (which is why they lose a star). I wish they took Care Credit so I could add the fillings to my pile of debt, because I’m pretty positive that teeth fillings will never be something I save for.
