Gustav’s is the shit! Great schnitzel and beer, everytime ive been here its been superb. Unfortunately they are closing this location Dec. 31st because PDX leasing apparently has rules preventing anything good from staying here that long. Good riddance to whome ever takes their place.

This place is great for an airport, sadly that isn’t saying a great deal. I was surprised to see a beer flight on offer, which I promptly ordered, but all the four beers I chose proved to be below average, including the porter. The only credible vegan option besides the pretzel was the garden salad — an uninspiring mix of lettuce leaves and tomatoes, which wasn’t terribly fresh. A shame — a place like this could do so much better, but of course they have a captive audience.

Bier and Bier Sausage, please. With plenty of time(and brain cells) to kill before my flight, I joined the collection of weary travelers at Gustav’s Pub & Grill dulling their senses in Terminal C of the Portland International Airport. For my Bier, I chose a local beer from Bend, OR with a tall glass of Deschutes Inversion IPA. It was beer. It was cold. No need to overthink this. A Bier Sausage was a thick Ground Beef and Pork Sausage with Paprika and Black Pepper in an equally thick/dry bun covered with a huge mound of Sauerkraut. I’d get it again, but with half the kraut. Be sure to ask for the mustard tray to find the spice just right for you. With plenty of TVs and drinks for pilgrims waiting for their next flight, Gustav’s is the most popular airport restaurant at PDX. It fits the bill when you want to kill time(and a few brain cells) with a Bier and Bier Sausage.

What a wonderful ethnic surprise to find in an airport! Husband & I thoroughly enjoyed a recent lunch here. I was intrigued by the Chicken Schnitzel with Ham & Cheese, Madeira sauce, German Potato Salad and Tomato/Cucumber Salad. Husband chose the Sausage Trio with Sauerkraut and German Potato Salad. We both loved our dishes! I was afraid the Schnitzel was going to be heavy, but it was surprisingly light, delicate and super delicious. Husband was very happy with his sausages and we both loved the delicious mustards that our Server brought to us. The German Potato Salad was perhaps the best we have ever had. I will say that the sauce under the Schnitzel had no discernible flavor, but it wasn’t even needed anyway. We had a very good Server, but it’s not fast food, which was just fine with us as we had plenty of time before our flight. We also felt like prices were quite reasonable for the quality and quantity.

I was actually pretty impressed by their food selections. Lots of breakfast options with delicious German meats! I settled on the breakfast croissant and it was quite good. Service was slow but we weren’t in much of a rush so that was okay.

A fine stop at PDX. The food is fast, reasonably priced and enjoyable, not fantastic. My 3 sausage dinner came out in 10 min, great for travelers(what you expect in an airport). It wasn’t overly hot, or plated well. Server Cheryl did a good job, it was understaffed. My third visit, I will come back.

Surprised this place doesn’t have more stars. It was sooooo good! We stared with the cheese bread and it’s to die for. It only comes with 4 slices so make sure you want to share or order a few! I had the snietzel motiz and it was very delicious. Perfectly melted cheese and tasty ham, the chicken was perfectly cooked and moist. Their salads are green and purple which I love(hate that ice berg crap!) My parents had burgers and they were massive and great, fries too. The mustard selection is out of this world. Great wines and beers. I’m excited to have another lay over in Portland now!

There is a certain expectation of airport food and it usually revolves around a $ 20 bag of beef jerky. Gustav’s is breaking the mold in making a place you actually want to dine in! The schnitzel sandwich was second to none and something I would want to find outside of an airport. Service was outstanding and the team working actually cared about you as a customer and not just a passenger traveling through in a hurry.

The place looked pretty good from the outside, but the food was disappointing. I had the Ruben sandwich and was quite a waste. The quality of the meat and toppings were lacking. The meat was very overcooked and lacked flavor and was not«piled high» the bread that was soaked in butter and did not have the flavor you would expect. The sauerkraut and cheese were a no go and the fries were pretty standard. My wife got the French Dip and thought it was just decent. Paid for grilled onions which were good, but was disappointed I did not know to pay an extra dollar for a slice of cheese. Staff was friendly and seating was comfortable, but the food was quite disappointing :(

Bland tasteless food and super expensive drinks. This is the 2nd time I have tried this location because I really like the restaurants in town but again I am completely disappointed. If you have time to come back through security visit the restaurants just outside the security check in. They have much better food!

Gustav’s maintains a busy presence along Terminal C of PDX. I’ve walked by coming and going on several occasions, but it was only last week that I stopped by a good hour and a half before my flight left. I suppose I could have stretched my time in Portland a little longer before coming to the Airport, but after dropping off my Son at home and strolling down the Historic Mississippi District, I was ready to go home. There’s lots of inner and«patio» seating, as well as several spots at the bar. I did the later, as there was a basketball game on and I could directly see what kind of beers they were serving. I ate«light» with an order of tasty cheese bread to go with my Lucky Lab Stumptown Porter. My attention wandered from the game to observing the various folks around me, but I otherwise allowed myself to relax and stay off the smart phone. Service was friendly and prompt, and prices were compatible to those in town. That’s not too shabby at any Airport.

Hands down, the best food you can get while waiting for a flight at PDX. I have had a few great meals here over the years. Their breakfast is top notch.

Had a light dinner here on a layover — shared 2 sandwiches and bowl of lentil soup between the 4 of us. Sandwiches and fries were decent — pretty standard airport food. The lentil soup was surprisingly good. Fondue looked fun, too. Nice local beers; I decided to try the house Pino noir — 9 oz pour. Their was no price on the menu, so I was pretty surprised when the bill came and it was $ 18 for the glass! Next time, I’d ask the price before I order.

Das ist gut. Nice little bit of Austrian fare, especially for an airport. Bier. Wurst. Kraut. Gut. 13 years at this location. Perhaps next to newer shops and eateries makes this feel slightly dated, but to me — it goes well with the traditional Austrian food. Chicken Schnitzel($ 12.99) — it’s not hanging over the plate size, famous in the homeland, but at a fair airport price. The german potato salad was fair, but the beer was ever so good!

Stopped in for a visit at Gustav’s this past weekend while flying out of Portland. Nothing fancy about the place. It has a decent and well stocked bar with a decent assortment of spirits. A few TV’s around the bar. A German Cuisine menu and the staff were friendly and eager to please. We stopped in for drinks and to watch the start of the 49’er game but, once we sat down, we decided on food too since our flights were still three hours away. I decided on the Cheese & Bread Fondue at the cost of $ 8 bucks. Once the dish made it’s way to the table, I snapped a few pictures to capture the moment. The dish was good but, the cheese wasn’t fully melted. It was kinda of clumpy and lukewarm. I think it was probably microwaved to maybe save some time. The bread pieces were assorted, fresh and tasty. Gustav’s was a nice place to hang out for a layover or a quick bite. I don’t see myself ever leaving the house with my mind set on dinning here though.

This is the bastard child of the regular Gustav’s. Some of the same food, some more ‘neutral’ food for travelers who don’t want to go ‘Full German’(though why wouldn’t you?) and an okay selection of beers. The food is similar looking but not quite as good as the real Gustav’s. The schnitzel strips were a little bland and not as juicy as they should be. The fries were a little starchy and not crisp enough. The pretzel and dip were good. Very filling.

Without a doubt one of the top 3 meals I’ve ever had in an airport restaurant. I got lucky enough to grab the last seat at the bar and was immediatley served by a very effieicient and speedy team of bar staff that were fun, attenetive and know how to pour a double! I had a few hours to kill and also wanted a bite– little did I know how lucky I was to have landed at Gustav’s! I ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich and it was delivered quickly and piping hot. The crust on the chicken was crispy, spicy perfection. The bun and vegetables were fresh, cripy(where aplicable) and chewy(again where aplicable). An amazingly done surpise of a sandwich in the place youd never expect– an airport bar! WHENYOUGO– get to the Portland airport early. This sandwich alone is worth it!

What can you say, it’s airport food. Apparently they have a really good German fare, but we stopped in for breakfast. I had a breakfast sandwich with potatoes. The portion was average and the taste was comparable to Jack In The Box. My biggest beef with this place was the cost of a Bloody Mary which was over $ 11. Keep in mind our entrees were only a little over $ 8. The Bloody Mary itself wasn’t bad, however they bring you only the vodka mixed with tomato juice and a spice rack, so you are essentially making your own Bloody Mary. Gotta love the gouging that takes place at airports.

We stopped into Gustav’s Pub and Grill for a drink before our flight. We had a couple hours to kill and stopped into the bar. The Bartendress is charming and made us feel at home, so we sat up front. She’ll card you at any age, they don’t discriminate. Feeling guilty of my huge brunch, I decided to order one of those«Skinny Margaritas». It was almost twice the portion and okay. It was a bit too splenda sweet, but decent for the price. My guy ordered his Gin Mary, his flight tradition.
He followed that with a beer and you get a shot for $ 3 extra bucks! What a deal. I took his shot(any you’d like) and made it a Kettle One on ice and added a Sugar Free Redball, since I was so exhausted. And wahlah… Redbull vodka, Drinks were nice. I like the power strip under the bar counter. You can plug in your laptop or charge your phone without cord hassles. I would most definately come back if I was hanging at PDX.
