Gypsy Chic

This is a great store and Lydia is awesome! I was greeted with a smile and Lydia took the time to help me and find the perfect clothing item. Her kindness and sales skills encouraged me to want to buy something. Very happy with the maxi coat and earings I bought and have already received tons of compliments!

This is a cute shop with really good service. The owner/​manager is super sweet and let me set my stuff down and helped with my shopping. She has her own line. She does make some one size fits all stuff but the sizing seemed to work out and I bought a cotton maxi dress for a very reasonable price for $ 28!

I stopped in to Gypsy Chic on my first day visiting Portland on a whim. The sale rack outside caught my eye, but Lydia was kind enough to invite me inside to take a look at their extended sale selection Inside and out of the rain (and also offered my boyfriend a comfy place to rest while I shopped around.) The clothing was all so amazing; I had SO much fun picking thing out, alongside Lydia, who was also joyfully picking things out she thought I would like (she instantly got me!) I love this store, and it’s totally worth a 5 star rating, but Lydia’s personal and friendly service is what was so above and beyond for me. This store has found a total gem of an employee in Miss Lydia! Cheers from SF, I’ll definitely be back to GC on my next visit:)

We just adored this little gem of a store. Lydia was amazing! The store was busy, but Lydia found time to help everyone and make awesome suggestions. The clothes are so chic, yet comfortable.
The only downside was the horrible lighting in the dressing rooms. We may have bought more clothing if the dressing rooms had made us look less ghastly. The lights are too intense and cause odd shadows.

We wandered into this gem when another shop disappointed me, and I found the best ombré wrap! I was pleasantly surprised with their diverse inventory, and I adored the woman at the counter who eagerly helped me find the perfect wrap to fit my curves. She succeeded, and I will recommend this shop to all of my friends who travel to PDX!

I walked in on a busy weekday. Well, it was busy inside Gypsy Chic. The other clothing stores on Mississippi were empty. I’ll explain why I think this might be: despite being quite busy with several other customers, once I explained my request («Please find me a dress to match these beautiful boots I just bought at Half Pint!»), both of the women working there were immediately enthusiastic and packed me off to the fitting rooms with a dozen excellent options. Out of all those, I narrowed it down to one perfect dress that I had completely overlooked on the rack. The price was reasonable and I even found matching earrings at the counter. Presto, I have the perfect date night outfit! I think Gypsy Chic has a good thing going with their friendly customer service, solid selection, and decent prices. Some of the other shops could definitely take a few notes! Thanks again ladies!

Usually I love this place and the ladies that work there, except when I went there on the day of the Alberta Street Fair. Earlier in the day I went to the fair and saw Gypsy Chic’s tent and obviously wandered over to see what cool clothes I should buy. I instantly spotted a pretty dress that was on sale for $ 28 compared to the usual $ 50; additionally, you could by 2/​$ 50. I only bought one and thought the service was great there. Then later in the day I went to Mississippi to pick up some comics and decided to stop by the store front of Gypsy Chic because I loved the dress I bought so much I wanted to get another. I went in, spotted the dress I wanted but noticed that the price was ~$ 33 on sale (33% off regular price), instead of $ 28 like at the fair. So I asked the employee if she could honor the price at the fair and she gave a firm «No» with the excuse that both «locations» have different inventories. The dress is a product of Gypsy Chic. Plus I was wearing the dress I bought earlier! Since I was pretty bummed with her «No» I asked her again if she could give me $ 5 off. She said I should go back to the fair! Yes, I know Alberta is not far from Mississippi but what the heck?! I thought it was a pretty dishonest excuse about inventory stuff for not offering the discount. So I said «Ok, bye.» Sorry to say, I WON’T BE SHOPPING AT Gypsy Chic AGAIN.
I’m just bummed about the employee that told me that mainly because she is very different (attitude-​wise) from every other employee I’ve encountered at Gypsy Chic, i.e. very rude, not friendly, unapproachable. Usually the ladies are all about what you should buy, what you’re looking at, show you a book about gemstones, etc.

Dear Gypsy Chic,
You have ruined everything. EVERYTHING. Because now I am sad that I live far away and cannot just, say, pop in to your beautifully decorated boutique that is full of everything I like to wear, and maybe spend a few hundred dollars on my lunch break. I bought a couple of skirts and dresses while I was in town last week, and I am just loving the heck out of them. I have basically worn nothing else since I acquired these pieces of clothing.
I need more. I basically need one of everything.
Just have those all wrapped up and sent along, ok?
Seriously, I’m not a lithe little yoga girl. I’m a 45 year old not-​bendy woman who has had a couple of kids and prefers a cool pint of gelato over a hot yoga class. And yet, your clothes, they look GOOD on me. They make my curves look great. They smooth over the spots that I maybe feel less than great about. How do you make clothes that look so good on *everyone*? It’s the first time I’ve gone shopping in about 5 years and not walked out of the dressing room in tears. It’s the first time I’ve gone shopping in years and walked out with a handful of stuff to buy and another stack of regrets left in the dressing room because I was out of money. Seriously, thanks for making clothes I feel great in. I’ll be back, with more money. You guys will just shut up and take it, right? Take ALL my money. Your clothes are so worth it!
PS: I also appreciate that «all my money» will buy me a heck of a lot of stuff at your store. I think your amazing clothing is really attractively priced, and I appreciate that fact that you are selling such high quality and unique pieces at prices I can afford. You could charge more and people would pay it. The fact that you don’t speaks volumes about how awesome you are. I was able to buy two dresses and two skirts for myself AND a dress for my daughter to wear for her baby shower, for less than $ 200. That’s just… amazing.

Met the manager, Elizabeth, today. Totally helpful and personal experience from a lovely human being. I love this place even more now.

They have some interesting clothes, luckily the pricing isn’t ridiculously overpriced, just sadly overpriced given the relatively low quality of workmanship. If you buy something here, have a taylor on standby for your follow up repairs! What is the most frustrating aspect of dealing with this company is their lack of customer service and support. I have tried countless times to get information about a pair of pants that just goes unanswered time and time again. Finally I did get a response and wouldn’t you know it, it was a generic response about the wrong pants at that. I explained they were not the pants I was inquiring about, and now we are back in the abyss of silence. After a rather snarky email from me they finally did respond (9 months later) and blamed their lack of follow through on being busy with clothing shows. Fine, but I still haven’t gotten the information I needed, just excuses and no follow through. Moral of the story, I have now moved on to a taylor that is responsive and making the pants I wanted. Thanks for nothing GYPsy chic, looks like you got the GYP part right.

I enjoy the style for the most part, & I do love the skirt I purchased here. I would say that I think that the items are a bit overprices for the durability factor. The skirt I have was indeed from the discount bin. Only $ 8 off of the original $ 28. I’ve had to repair it twice already not including the original sewing from the tear that sent it into the bargN bin. I like the style but the quality stitching is no good!

This is my favorite clothing store in Portland. You can never leave with only one thing! They accommodate to most sizes of women and the staff is always extremely helpful. They tell you the truth, unlike a lot of other stores. It’s nice to have help and honesty when shopping, we need it! Or I do for that matter. Love Gypsy Chic!

Just wanted to say I got so many compliments on the black long skirt with the Peacock feathers embroidered on it. I wore it with a tank top belted and your gladiator sandals… Will be in Portland this fall and will definitely check out what you have for fall and winter! Thanks Gypsy Chic

I LOVE GYPSY CHIC! By far my new fave store when I come to Portland for my visits! Excited that I get to shop online as well the customer service was phenomenal and they were up to date on the latest trends. I went in for a dress and I left with much more! Great selection of dressy and casual trends and the accessories I could have shopped for hours. Well done Gypsy Chic!

Super positive shopping experience at this adorable boutique style shop. The owner, Jamie is really helpful and friendly, giving great feedback on outfits (I tried on like 100, the clothes are so cute). The prices are very reasonable and I probably bought too much ;)

Just walking by the adorable window displays of this boutique is enough to incapacitate me until I go inside. After perusing many overpriced shops in town, this remains my favorite. The darling little dresses and tops I get the most compliments on come from here. It’s delightfully feminine and completely affordable. Everything from their unique skirts, to scarves, to hats and other accessories make me swoon. The staff is very kind and helpful while remaining unobtrusive. Best of all, the bf tolerates this place and can make himself comfortable in the waiting area by the dressing rooms as long as I promise to buy him a drink afterward with whatever money I may have left…

Shopping. Outta hand here.

Me: *sigh* It does… but I don’t know if I want this color (puts green jacket back on rack then suddenly notices it in grey)
Me: Hey! They’ve got it in grey!
Friend: Try that one on then!
Me: (tries on jacket) GAHHHHH I really love it… =X
Friend: Are you going to get it? I think you should!

LESSON LEARNED: Do not shop under the influence of friends =P
I intended to window shop here, but ended up hurting my wallet. I purchased a cute grey jacket (for moi) and a leather bracelet (for a gift). My friend purchased the moto jacket she was also «window shopping» for.
Gypsy Chic offers a bunch of hippie and urban clothing made by local designers. You can also find some jewelry, bags and accessories here too. I wouldn’t mind coming back here for a local gift or «window shopping» =)
Unilocal 2013 100+ Reviews Challenge (going for 200!) — Review #174

On a row of charming boutiques, it’s sometimes hard to tell the difference between shops. Sorry, but it’s true.
You do the walk around:
Walk in, down past knitwear and silks, admire a detail here and there, try on a cute and/​or funny hat, dawdle for a moment at the jewelry, continue on to the perpetually empty dressing rooms in the back, then turn around and run your hand past all of the textures on the way out of the door.
Somewhere in the middle, you turn over a price tag to confirm your suspicions. $ 150 for a scarf. Ouch. Sigh.
But when I did the price tag turn here at Gypsy Chic. Instead of «ouch,» my reaction was «gasp!» And $ 20 later, the scarf in my hand quickly became the scarf around my neck.
Plus they had those delicious little almond crisps from Trader Joe’s for the munching-​while-​shopping enjoyment.
It’s possible that I am in love.

I stumbled upon Gypsy Chic at Portland’s Saturday Market.
What a find!
They had tons of cute, comfy, AFFORDABLE clothing (and great jewelry too) and the gals working the booth were friendly, sassy, and super nice, which helped w/​the sale of the dress I had been eyeballing…(«Really? I’ll look younger AND hot when wearing this dress? SOLD!»)
The next time I’m down I’m going to go to their actual storefront. Who knows what I’ll walk out with!
