Our flavorful, innovative spirits include Aviation American Gin®, Westward Oregon Straight Malt Whiskey™, Krogstad Festlig Aquavit™, Volstead Vodka™ and a line of limited release small-​batch spirits.

We also offer a variety of classes including cocktail classes, whiskey classes, and whiskey-​making workshops. The distillery is available for event space rental.

Business Owner

As founder and master distiller of independently owned and operated House Spirits Distillery, Christian Krogstad is one of the visionaries behind America’s craft distilling resurgence. Krogstad established House Spirits Distillery in 2004, bringing together his experience as a brewer and winemaker and tapping his passion for outstanding cocktails and food.

More recently, Krogstad has focused his efforts on expanding the House Spirits Distillery footprint with the creation of a brand new, $ 6 million distillery on Distillery Row in Portland, which opened its doors to the public in November, 2015. In its new home, House Spirits Distillery is the largest distilling operation in the Pacific Northwest. The new facility, which increased the company’s distilling capacity sixfold, allows House Spirits Distillery to focus on growing its newer innovations, including Westward Oregon Straight Malt Whiskey, a malted whiskey distilled from local grains and aged in new American Oak barrels.

What a deal! $ 10 for 7 tastings and a detailed, fascinating tour of the distillery. We came on a Wednesday afternoon for their 3pm tour and we did not have to wait at all. The bartender, tour guide and staff in the back were all wonderful. Bought their coffee liqueur, so delicious with the perfect sweet/​dry ratio. Will be back next time I’m in PDX.

$ 5 to try 6 – 7 different types of drinks they make? Yes please. This was a great spot to hang out and chat for like an hour or so. We tried a few different whiskeys, gin and even a vodka. Not only will I come back here, I’ll definitely try some other distilleries in the SE. The staff was totally knowledgeable, they have some raw products on display so you see what goes into their spirits.

The girls working the tasting room were friendly, outgoing, knowledgeable, and pleasant.
The spirits were wonderful and the cocktails were amazing.
The spirits may be a little on the pricey side, but quality comes at cost. The Westward Whiskey is not to be missed.

They have a parking lot, this is great for parking.
Very modern looking but boring logo. They have a great showroom with all their old distills plus things you could buy for gifts and added things. Lots of open space and there is an open concept photo booth, interesting.
The tasting guide was very soft spoken so hard to understand her but she was very nice and knowledgable. Old tom aviation gin — awesome, barrel aged delicious, his favorite. She let us try the Scandinavian Evening drink from their tap drinks, it was easy to sip on, licorice taste to it but smooth. She let us try it because we had to wait for the crowd of people. Coffee liqueur made from stumptown cold brew is amazing, it smelled like coffee I wanted to drink in the morning, that could be dangerous.
Very cool distillery. I think we rated it 3rd of the 8!

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. We live near Livermore Wine Country and go tasting very frequently, however, this was the best tasting experience we’ve ever had. First off, they recently moved to a new space: the layout is lovely, it showcases their distillation faculty, and to very welcoming. For $ 5, we were able to try seven spirits: two find, two aquavits, a vodka, a whiskey and a coffee liqueur. We enjoyed everything that we tried, however the coffee liqueur and the whiskey were our favorites. The whiskey is on the expensive side so we didn’t buy any this time, but we left with a bottle of the coffee liqueur and every intention to be repeat customers.
So the facility is lovely and the spirits were delicious, but was that what made this experience our best tasting experience get? No. This was the best tasting experience we’ve had because of everything above as well as the awesome woman who directed our tasting. We didn’t catch her name, but she knew everything about the spirits making process. So many times when we go wine tasting, the people pouring need to read the back of the bottle to tell you what you’re tasting and it’s obvious that they’re just memorizing stuff and going through the motions. This lady knew her spirits inside and out. She knew how each one was made and how long they take and was able to impress upon us the scope of work that they accomplish there. It was a really great experience and we are so glad we stopped by today.

Stopped in a little over a week ago with some co-​workers after leaving the office on a Friday and noticing they had an open sign. Tasting room set up is straight-​forward. Relatively large space and basically wide open. The south and west walls containing some museum-​style displays about the distillery and the individual spirits. To the north is a tasting bar, and behind it a glass wall where you can see into the warehouse and the various stills.
The tasting flight is $ 5, and gets you a small pour of each of the 6 spirits. I’ve never been a fan of Aviation gin, as I prefer less floral and more juniper, but to each their own. I hadn’t had any of their other spirits (two aquavits, a whiskey, and a vodka, and a coffee liqueur). The whiskey and the coffee liqueur were easily my favorites.
I think the lady working the bar’s name was Christina, and she was solid. Knew her stuff, could talk about the spirits and flavors, and it seemed she actually knew her spirits, not just reciting items from memory and what not. She also did a good job of hopping between a group of four that was in there before our group of three, keeping the spirits coming, answering questions, being friendly, and all the small intangibles that are important in a customer facing role.
