Kitchen Kaboodle

Went in to buy eco-​friendly pans and a coffee make not made in China. The first salesperson told me the ones I wanted came with lids, but they didn’t. No real biggie, but I said I’d have to think about it a bit because they didn’t have any lids in stock that fit. They seemed annoyed, but again, no biggie.
When I went to check out I noticed the box on the coffee maker had been opened, it was bulging a bit and didn’t close properly. I looked inside and noticed the coffee maker was really dusty and the parts were thrown in loosely.
I asked if it had been returned and they said, «No, this was the display model.» **surprise** When I asked for an unopened box I got eye rolls and attitude. They seemed shocked and dismayed that I didn’t want to buy a dusty, tossed back in the box, thoroughly pawed over display model. Hey, I’m paying $ 300 for a freakin’ coffee maker — I want it to be new.
They acted put out while calling around to try and find another coffee maker that I just left. I went straight to Sur La Table in the Pearl and the salespeople there were all so kind and helpful — like night and day — and I happily spent my money there instead. No more KK for me.

I love Kitchen Kaboodle! I always find great stuff here and the prices are reasonable.

Been shopping here for years-​helpful staff, and some of them are pretty silly. Nice to see a company that is ok with that :)

Broke my french press plunger on a bitter cup of coffee. Took it into Kaboodle and a great dude named Mike replaced it with the updated plunger (Bodum moved from a flimsy plastic component to all metal component).
And then another great Kaboodler named Tano made me espresso. Love this place.

I used to think Kitchen Kaboodle was an overpriced Fred Meyer kitchen section. Maybe Freddy’s was better back then, or maybe I knew less about kitchens. These days I think KK is pretty cool. They’ve got a good selection of stuff and it’s neither as snooty as expensive (nor faux French) as Sur la Table (which I apparently refuse to pronounce and possibly spell correctly).
The service is pretty good, most of the time if you stay in one place long enough somebody will ask you if you need help and they’ll be pretty helpful. Conversely if you want to be left alone there’s enough shelving in this place to stay out of sight. Don’t misuse that, yo.
I came in because I was finally willing to pull the trigger on a Sodastream. KK sells them and also exchanges the CO2 bottles, so I decided to reward them with some money. Bonus it was closer than the downtown Target. Also likely less cult-​like (I’ve worked at a Target, so don’t bother arguing that point). Since I’m on that gas train I will definitely be back to Kitchen Kaboodle.

I needed a new coffee maker and some gadgets for my kitchen. I was on my way to Fred Meyer, but decided to go out of my way and stop at Kitchen Kaboodle.
Walked up to the door and found both doors propped open. In I walked to start browsing, but NO. A clerk yelled, «WE ARE NOT OPEN YET, we open at 10am.»
Okay, but the doors are propped open, and it was less than 5 minutes until 10am! But a rule is a rule.
So I left and never went back. Too bad, you might have a better selection but your clerk and store hours suck.

Awesome, extensive, comprehensive selection of kitchen equipment and accessores and housewares. A store you could spend hours in, like a library, could wander endlessly. Every brand, model, color and option available.
Attentive and knowledgeable staff.

This is a great store and the customer service is topnotch. The staff if usually very knowledgable about their products and very helpful. I needed to buy a wedding present after having a small surgery that made it difficult for me to pick up a box and the Kitchen K people carried it to my car. So nice.
I’m happy with their selection, but I’ve generally researched what I want to buy before going in. Maybe I could save a dime on a $ 75 item by getting it on Amazon, but if I have a problem, it’s going to take me hours to deal with it. The few times I’ve had concerns with an item purchased here, an email takes care of it. I love this store and love shopping locally, especially when the products, service, and prices are as good or better than the chains.

Kitchen Kaboodle has long been my favorite kitchen store, and the NE Broadway location has always been my favorite of the bunch. The store has a ton of inventory, and the people there are always very friendly and helpful without being pushy.
We had a typical great experience with KK this weekend. My wife and I were looking to replace our patio furniture. Having moved from NE to SW Portland recently, we started with the SW KK store. They had a few tables and chairs set up outside but without umbrellas. We liked the furniture but there wasn’t much of a selection. Inside there were two different displays which were ok but not quite what we were looking for.
From there, we checked out two SW box stores and a department store. Cheaper prices for much cheaper quality, no thanks. Then we decided to drive over to the KK NE store. Unlike the SW store, the NE store had a much bigger selection of the same furniture we had liked at the SW store, but this time complete with different colored umbrellas. A salesperson came outside to help us with any questions. We quickly settled on what we wanted, made the purchase and the set was delivered about two hours later.
So as it turned out, KK was the first and the last store we checked out. We couldn’t be more pleased with our patio set. Very well made, high quality stuff that will last for years.

I live a block away from this place. Kinda dangerous, since I do really like looking at kitchen stuff, but great when trying out a new recipe to realize you don’t have the right pan/​cookie cutter/​etc to accomplish it successfully. The prices are pretty decent and they have a good selection of items.
They even have furniture upstairs, and kitchen décor items. Also, ’tis the season: patio furniture has sprung up out on the sidewalk for you to peruse! Patio season!

I will easily admit that I like to wander kitchen stores. I like going into Bed Bath and Beyond (although they tend to be overpriced on many things) and I will buy something. I’ve walked out with rolling pins, cast iron pans, cookie sheets and random utensils for the kitchen. Besides being a foodie, I can hold my own in a kitchen. I’m not applying for the Next Great Home cook show anytime soon, but I can do what I need to do and people seem to enjoy my food. That and I’m always wanting to experiment with something new that I haven’t done yet. Making pasta? Check. Making sour pickles? Check. Making beer bread? Check. So when I happen upon Kitchen Kaboodle of course I’m going in.
I will say that some of the items are pricy) or spendy as the «new» word of the moment is. But surprisingly, there are many items that are affordable. A spice grinder was $ 36, but you can get a coffee grinder for only $ 20 and use it for the same purpose. I had a great chat with one of the employees over spices and local restaurants in the area and then wandered on my own. I saw some great knives and saw some «what the hell would I ever buy these for» kind of knives as well. Basically some odd Japanese knives with patterns and splotches all over them. A bit over the top for my liking.
The store was organized really well. By color, by brand, by type. The pictures I took give you a glimpse of what I mean. There was a second floor for furniture, but I didn’t venture up there only because I didn’t need to find something I really wanted. I stuck downstairs and saw the practical things I could actually use. This is a place I will return to, as soon as I have my own places to cook in and not just my brothers tiny apartment kitchen.

I’ve always had great experiences here.
I stopped by a couple months ago with my boyfriend and looked at knives with him. Timothy helped us and showed my hun a bunch of different things. Timothy sussed out his knife skills politely and explained why some knives were better for the average home chef and others were appropriate for someone, like my boyfriend, who knows what he’s doing and how to care for them. He’s obviously passionate about the lines KK carries.
I stopped in yesterday, found Timothy, and it was like that conversation had happened an hour ago. He remembered all of the preferences and techniques they’d talked about and he helped me pick out a knife that rounded out our collection. I’m pretty indecisive with purchases and he was really patient with my questions.
I’m totally willing to admit that I’m really intimidated by purchasing knives and trying to figure out what my kitchen-​guy would want. I’m writing this while he is prepping a pork shoulder and practically giggling about how great his new 8″ Chef is and what a great birthday gift I found.
Stellar customer service at checkout, great organization, and well educated staff. Such a gem of a store!

I can always find what I need here for my kitchen. They have a nice furniture section upstairs too.

When Kitchen Kaboodle had its flagship store downtown, it was the première place to go in Portland for kitchen supplies, home décor and furniture. I registered there for my wedding and outfitted much of my first apartment from them. The ride up the escalator from the street was filled with anticipation. I don’t know what has happened to the brand since then but they’ve lost their identity somwhere along the way. The stores are just rooms with stuff on shelves. There’s no prestige, no presence. The pricing system makes no sense. If everything is always 20% off, that’s not really a cost savings. It’s just openly marking merchandise up to then seemingly mark it down. The staff is friendly enough but not particularly interested in, much less passionate about, quality cookware for quality food.
Lately I only begrudgingly came in because they’re the only store within walkable limits which carries a good selection of Soda Stream syrups. But after today I will have to find an online source. I stopped by for a re-​up and they already have both Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations on display. It’s mid-​August! Maybe because the company knows their days are numbered they’re celebrating early? It’s just too much for me. Too much for not nearly enough.

My family and I just had the worst shopping experience at this store. Please do not ever shop at Kitchen Kaboodle ever.
Yesterday, we stopped in after walking through a nice little farmers market to see if they had a coffee maker for our upcoming camping trip. As we wandered upstairs to check out furniture, my son Owen was stacking some blocks of wood they had on a display shelf. He was being gentle and we were right there the whole time. After we put all of them back, he took off running (as most 2−½ yr olds do).
At this point one of their employees says in an incredibly rude tone «would you please get your child… this isn’t a toy store.» I said «yep, obviously we’re trying to do just that. Thanks.» As we are trying to corral him (because he thinks its a game now), she says, «get your kid now! (Raising her voice to me)»
I was blown away. I say, «look Sarah, I cannot believe how rude you are being. We are trying to leave and I promise we will never be back.»
As we’re heading down the stairs there was another family coming up and my wife Angela says «I wouldn’t go up here, kids aren’t welcome.»
Sarah, the employee jabs «I’m sure these kids will be better than yours!» Now, those are fighting words. Somehow by the grace of God I didn’t just lay into her with a line of expletives. I just said that we need to speak with her manager. She says, «you should. he will have my back,» and storms off to get her manager.
So as we’re walking out, we said to the manager, «obviously this is not a family establishment and I promise you and anyone I can convince will never shop here again.» He said, «this IS a family store.» We said, «not by how we were just treated.»
All of the sudden, you could just tell that Sarah knew she screwed up BIG TIME.
If you like to support businesses that believe in families/​kids/​being kind, you should not shop there then. Go to Williams &Sonoma instead.

The Broadway store is far superior in customer service to the one in NW.
I was shopping at a different Kitchen Gadget store and after two visits they still didn’t restock what I had wanted. Oh they called a sister store and found one for me and I could drive to Lake O to get one. No thanks. I get into Kitchen Kaboodle on line and ordered all I wanted and in three days my order was in right at the location I wanted.
So this place will now get my business when I need Kitchen gadgets.

Love love love Kitchen Kaboodle — very dangerous place for me to shop. I subscribe to their newsletter, and when they highlight a cool kitchen gadget I have to stop by. The parking situation in Irvington is a bit of a pain, but I usually don’t have a lot of problems finding a spot.
This is the place I go when I want to spend money on something for my kitchen that will stand up to use and abuse.

This is our go to kitchen stuff place. They have a good selection, fairly priced, and we really like the staff. They are friendly and knowledgeable. They also have a generous return policy. We bought a ceramic knife for Christmas 2 months ago. It broke so we asked how to get a new one. They checked on the warranty and gave us a new one. They did not have to do that. Most stores would have told us to send it to the manufacture.

A decent selection of kitchen wares here. Fun to stop in just to look around and see if there is anything that might make my life easier in the kitchen (i.e. a Jetson’s-style robot). Wish they carried Keurig supplies/​pods, but they opt instead for the more expensive Nespresso, with the pods that must be ordered online.

This is an okay store. Nice selection… no problems. Extended hours from what they used to have. Price wise? What I would expect as I come from an area with nice stuff and you simply pay the price. No problem with the prices at all.
