Cheap movies, decent pizza, beer. literally what more could one want? Yes sad they went digital but c’est la vie. Please never go away Laurelhurst!

This is an all time neighborhood favorite… cheap movies and great beer selection. I love the variety of food choices and the quick cheerful efficient service. I highly recommend.

Better than average experience for a carved up old theater from Hollywood’s Golden Age. The sound system is above average, the menu likewise. We attended a show that had been out for a considerable length of time, still a large crowd was present. You get the feel that the local community actively supports this place. The $ 4 price tag ($ 3 for old fossils like me) is another draw. Easy on the budget, allowing a slightly higher grade of Zinfandel to be smuggled in if you’re not up for a beer that night.

Great experience here. It’s a quiet and unassuming theater on Burnside with an excellent selection of movie/​films and a pretty good selection of food/​refreshments as well. It’s not crowded in the least and a fraction of what other theaters charge. Beyond all this, it has a very Portland feel.

Laurelhurst is my favorite date-​night spot in the entire city. Movies are incredibly cheap, drinks are priced fairly and the pizza is amazing. They often play an array of older films and indie sleeper hits that are difficult to find in most theaters, it’s the dreamiest.

$ 4 for a movie and the price is right! Comparing this to other local budget theaters, I’d probably say I prefer the Academy, but this is still a good two levels up from the Avalon. I appreciate that these theaters aren’t always playing the same overlapping films.
The pizza looked quite good at first, but it got very chewy as it cooled, and their fountain soda Coca-​Cola was too watery. They do get points for having free self-​serve water though, and I liked how the back rows of the theater had a shelf/​table in front of you to place things on.
Make sure you come early to find parking.

Yesssss! Death to large corporate movie theaters. This place smells of nostalgia and has fresh beer and pizza. Inexpensive movies and tables at almost every seat. You guys win!

Could be soooo much better… Such potential but it’s the underachiever of all the great PDX movie theatres. Go to Hollywood or Academy! Their movie and beer selections are both mediocre and they don’t change films much. Rarely do they offer festival films or screening events. The pizza is drier than shoe leather and they lamp heat it with the original 1920’s projector! No deal for their «new deal» menu… it’s utterly inedible.
But they’ve got a fabulous location and world class neon!

This is a theater which always has at least one movie I want to see. The beer and pizza are a plus. Centrally located and a stones throw from great bars and restos for before or after. A gem.

Met the producer and cinematographer of an entry in the Portland Film Festival at the Nikkei Heritage Museum and they gave us a flyer for their film playing at Laurelhurst. We decided to check it out.
We really dug the area the theater is located. There were a lot of restaurants and eclectic stores in the surrounding streets. The theater reminded me of the old Lumiere Theater in San Francisco. It closed a few years ago. The movie was only $ 5 and sat about 40 – 50 people. The seats were very comfy and there was an area in front of the seats to place food and drink.
A nice theater in the Southeast section. Would recommend to see a movie there before it’s too late.

Oh no I so want to like this place! I love that admission is only 4 bucks. And that you can order your soda in a pitcher. The staff is absolutely excellent and works hard.
However I am there to see the movie and it was really hard to focus because of seating and the crowd. I get it Portland likes to be weird. But having to listen to a lady on my left constantly narrating the movie. While the angle of the seats don’t allow you to look over someone’s head is a total buzz kill. Oh and the rest of the audience will take tons of potty breaks and refill their beers. It’s a fun but loud crowd.
If you dig a loud rowdy audience and a bargain, this is your movie heaven. For me, the movie matters the most so I’ll take my snob attitude somewhere else lol!

Hell. Yes. Laurelhurst is the epitome of what a movie theatre should be. Free water, affordable prices, kombucha on tap… and the tickets are only $ 4?!! Does it get any better?
I’m not sure if Portland natives know what they have here. Where I grew up, it was Apex Cinemas and that was it. You had to push past everyone and their brother to get to a seat on the end, spilling your $ 10 small popcorn and dropping your $ 12 movie ticket along the way. Places like Laurelhurst are a truly beautiful phenomena. The rows of seats have ACTUAL aisles. I can walk freely! And not only that, but every row has tables in the center for setting your drink and snacks on. REVOLUTIONARY.
I paid under ten dollars here on a Friday night for a large popcorn and a pint of Lion Heart Kombucha. And then, as some sort of gift from the heavens, the theatre wasn’t even crowded. The employees were all incredibly friendly and the bathrooms were clean as well.
I don’t know what else I could ask for in a movie theatre. Except, maybe, that everyone wait on me hand and foot and give me shoulder massages while I stare at the screen. No? Okay, then this will do.

$ 3 movies with A/​C? Yes, please!
Small downsides:
Small, narrow theatres, and the sound isn’t calibrated to reach the very back row, so you may end up straining to hear the dialogue if you sit in the back.
The lines to get food/​beer are a bit time-​consuming, so if you don’t arrive with at least 10 mins to spare before your movie, don’t bother getting in line.
Overall, an awesome place to catch a movie and some food/​beer on the cheap.

This definitely one of the best movie theaters the truly represent Portland. Great place with friendly staff, good beer and great pizza.
I like the fact that it’s located in the middle of a great neighborhood for dining and conveniently located close to downtown Portland.

I first came here way back when it was a big chain first run theater… and it was a dump. The walls were covered in stained and torn curtains… I avoided it after that.
Then it got sold and remodeled and turned into a far nicer second run theater. Not only that but the food is good to. We are talking not only popcorn. Though that is fresh popped not from a bag like most big chain theaters. But they also serve pizza, salads and snacks. The drink menu has both beer and pop. The food is good, but I don’t know anyone who comes here for the food.
They have several theaters inside with big screens but they are smaller then what most theaters have. For movies it shows mostly recent movies that have just ended their run at the first run theaters. One screen shows older movies, sometimes cult classics some times classics… Oh and the price is only 4 dollars general admission.
Perhaps the big draw for me here, besides the price, is that for shows after 5:30 there are no kids. This makes for a quieter experience, somehow here even the adults behave better.

First of all its $ 4. So that’s awesome. And they have a pretty full food and beer menu, and there are little bar tables in the theatre for you to eat at. The screen had some lines in it where the panels came together but again – it’s $ 4. Its not a fancy, newly renovated, downtown type of place. But that’s not what I was looking for anyway.

Some theaters can bring out so much joy by being so simple. The Laurelhurst Theater has plenty of movies that aren’t universal among theaters, a friendly location, snacks and comfortable seats. Seeing a movie there only filled with cinematic drama, not location-​based drama.
I saw Citizenfour, about Edward Snowden. Going in after buying the tickets was easy. Tickets are only $ 4 a person. There were lots of seats and it was very comfortable. It was so easy to just sit down and watch the movie.
It would be great if all theaters were like the Laurelhurst Theater.

The Laurelhurst Theater is one of the best places in Portland. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to check it out.
First off: $ 4 tickets.
Secondly: $ 12 pitchers of microbrews.

Also, 5 minute previews with no commercials. So you don’t have to watch Maria Menounos give you a 20 minute in depth look at the next shiteous TBS show. You also don’t have to experience that Regal Cinemas «roller coaster.» Thanks, Laurelhurst.
Make sure to grab a slice of pizza for $ 3-​$ 4. They use bagel crust, so about 5 minutes into your film you can hear everyone reaching the end of their slices, which are aptly named after the films the theater’s showing. I had an «Inherent Slice» to eat while seeing Inherent Vice. LH, you clever girl…
They show movies that are about to be released onto DVD and also good oldies. Which means I’m pretty much always down to come here.

So lucky we don’t even know!!!
Laurelhurst is a bit out of my way, but I make the trek here because this place is just amazing. I love the historical theater options we have and this is on of the best.
You get great second run $ 4 movies, Pizzacato pizza, great beer and wine, and you feel like you get a real movie experience here in the classic sense. You don’t need massage chairs and nine kinds of butter to watch «Enter the Dragon».
This is a place that defines SE Portland for me. The big neon classic signage is fantastic, and in an area that has become trendy and gentrified, this place is a nice slice of the classic Portland. The one you grew up in the 90’s appreciating.
Give this place a try. Parking can be tricky, but at least they have their own spots to the left of the theater, just get there early. Grab a pitcher of beer and a few slices, kick back, and realize that dropping $ 20 a person for a movie is totally unnecessary when we have great options like this.
