Specialties
Danzan Ryu Jujitsu is a traditional martial art that combines techniques of grappling, striking, throwing, submission, and self-defense with techniques of eastern and western medicine. This is an art designed to promote health, confidence and awareness. This is not a mixed martial art club focused on combat. Classes are currently held twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 — 8:30 pm. First month is free so you can try it out. Classes are $ 30 a month after that. We have a very open, friendly, and non-competitive group.
History
Established in 2009.
Sensei Ryan McDaniel began his martial art journey in 2003 when he joined the Danzan Ryu Jujitsu Club at Evergreen State College. With a strong background in wrestling and gymnastics, he found Danzan Ryu a wonderful way to stay in shape, make lifelong friends and most importantly build confidence that one can use in everyday life.
In 2007 after a disabling car accident, Ryan used Danzan Ryu to rehabilitate himself and build back his strength. In 2010 Ryan tested for his blackbelt at the Kaishinkai Danzan Ryu Jujitsu headquarters in Centralia, Washington. Already a student at Portland Yoshokai Aikido, Ryan was invited to begin teaching Danzan Ryu classes in the shared space at the Peninsula Oddfellows Lodge in North Portland.
Currently North Portland Kaishinkai Danzan Ryu Jujitsu is going strong and invites you to have a great time with them, learn something new and impress yourself.
