Description

Specialties

We really do specialize in helping you find the perfect bottle of wine for every occasion. Taste wines by the flight or by the glass to help make your decision or learn about wine regions. Consult with sommelier trained staff. They don’t bite nor do they run on. If we don’t have the wine, we’ll track it down for you. Enjoy an equally tasty small food plate to enhance your wine appreciation experience. And remember, we’re the only sports wine bar in Portland.

History

Established in 1988.

For many years, we simply grew wine grapes. Then in 2000, we opened Urban Wine Works on the west side, near Chown Hardware, as a tasting room for our winery. In 2009, we were forced by the New Economy to close all our tasting rooms and re-organize. Now we are back on NE Fremont, with a slightly modified format. We still offer our own Bishop Creek Cellars’ wines, but now we also feature as many as 400 wines, crafted by other producers from around the world.

Meet the Business Owner

Reuel F.

Business Owner

After holding down a day job for many many years, Reuel has embraced his late-life crisis by having a lobotomy and throwing all his effort into making Urban Wine Works a success. Certified a «sommelier» by the International Sommelier Guild, Reuel has turned a profligate, consumptive hobby into a profession, with the idea that there is a place for a wine shop and tasting room with a wine steward who is helpful without being snobby, informative without being pretentious, and focused on good value rather than fleecing the public just because they crave a good bootle of wine.
