The staff was very nice and courteous. The restaurant looks a bit dated but it’s spacious and clean. There’s a waterfall outside, which is pretty random haha. Their fried rice has a similar distinct smokey taste. A restaurant in my hometown in Hawai’i has the same taste so it was huge surprise when I took my first bite of their kim chee fried rice! Their hot and sour soup is one of the best I’ve had in the mainland and the best I’ve had in Pullman. I wasn’t impressed with the mapo tofu and the sauce boyfriend’s sweet and sour pork just tasted like ketchup but I’d come back for the fried rice and hot and sour soup, and to try other items on their menu! The customer service was a pleasant surprise too.

This is our most favorite place to eat. When we cannot decide what to have this is always our go to. Excellent food, the best service and they are always cheerful. Great little waterfall if you get to sit next to it, they are quick with food, and in my opinion the best almond chicken I have found anywhere. I always get a place of almonds chicken with extra sauce. Mmmmm if you want Chinese, don’t go anywhere else, if you cannot decide then this is the place to go.

I have been coming to the New Garden for years and they have failed to impress. The food is wonderful, service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is inviting. Today I got the Hunan chicken lunch and it was on my table in minutes! It was perfect, not to spicy but with enough heat that I knew it was there. My server did an amazing job coming by and checking on my just the right amount not to much but not to seldom. Which is rare in restaurants these days. All in all I was very happy with every aspect of my meal.

I just started coming to the restaurant this summer, and I really enjoy it. The owners and wait staff and so friendly and welcoming. I usually head over for lunch, and the lunch prices run around $ 9. It is totally worth it. The portions are large, and I usually have left with leftovers. My usual — chicken with cashews(I ask for it to be made spicy) or one of the combo dishes. I have yet to have bad food there. I really enjoy their noodles!

Standard Chinese fare. We had it delivered. Prompt delivery and enough food for two in single combo meals. I’m not a big fan of Chow mein but this was fresh and good. Sweet and sour prawns and pork were good as well. Egg rolls were crisp and were not oily which is a real plus. Chicken curry was tasty. Nothing absolutely extraordinary but a solid choice for Chinese food. Convenient choice with delivery option and they got the order right!

This is perhaps the best Chinese restaurant in Washington. Too bad they only have one location. But definitely a place to eat at while in Pullman.

My husband and I love their food. We are regulars and always order take out. My husband and I can eat with leftovers for under $ 15. This place is affordable and delicious. However, today I was lied to, manipulated and given a guilt trip. Today, my husband ordered and I picked it up. We ordered a bit extra for our two daughters, a 2 yr old and a 13 yr old. When I was TOLD I owed $ 55, I had to take a step back! I did not even have $ 50 in my wallet and could not afford to purchase all that food — not that my small family would have been able to eat all of it anyways. I told the oriental lady(I am assuming she is the owner by how she acted and treated me but I don’t know this for a fact) there was a mistake somewhere. She showed me the hand written check which looked like a lot of scribbles. I explained I needed small boxes, not big ones. I could not afford what she wanted me to pay for. Her response was, «How much money you have?» Ummm That wasn’t the right question to be asking the customer. Of course I didn’t tell her. I stuttered because I didn’t realize I had entered a flea market instead of a restaurant. So she said, «You have $ 40? I give you food for $ 40.» Ummmm again, not the correct response to a customer. I apologized for the confusion(I had already apologized before this) and asked to re-order. The oriental lady looked at the two bags of food on the table and told me she hated to have to throw it all away. «I will lose money,» she said. I apologized — again — and explained my predicament — again. The oriental lady talked about throwing out the food and losing money — again. I walked away and called my husband. I was angry at rude treatment at this point. I almost hopped in my car and left to go get Mexican food for dinner. But we live in a small town and I did not want to be the rude one in this situation. I talked myself down, and went back to the register. I told the oriental lady I needed to re-order my food. She told me again about throwing away food and loosing money. At that point she walked away and another girl helped me order. This young woman was apologetic, extremely nice and helpful to me. I wish I knew her name. I ordered what I wanted and it came to a whopping $ 25.(We had leftovers too). The oriental lady took my money, again complaining about, well, you know. I apologized again. I waited for my food and heard that they were making it fresh. I wondered why, since my large order was sitting in front of me. I knew this to be true because the oriental lady kept looking at it and gesturing when she talked about, well, you know. So you can imagine my surprise when a couple walked in, paid their $ 45 and walked away with the big bags of food sitting in front of me. It seemed I had been lied to and manipulated on top of the incredible guilt trip. I walked up to the oriental lady — who I’m sure was trying to avoid me at this point — and said, as kindly and respectfully as I could, «Again, I’m sorry for the confusion. However as a customer I don’t appreciate a guilt trip about the food and it makes me not want to come back.» While I was talking she walked away yelling(more towards the kitchen than anywhere) «Our fault! Our fault.» We live in a small town and good food is hard to come by. We will experiment with different oriental restaurants now. I’m not sure when we will return to New Garden. We were regulars. Now I don’t want to go back. Even for amazing orange chicken. Had those large bags of food been for me, the correct response from the business was to let me re order and give me the big bags of food since she was going to throw it out anyways. Oh right! They hadn’t even made my food yet! The better response would have been to allow me to re order without arguing and hassling me about it. They lost a regular customer and I will make sure my friends know: KNOWWHATYOUWANTWHENYOUORDERANDDONTLETTHEMBOSSYOUAROUND. Better yet, go to a restaurant that cares about their customers.

If you want an American-style Chinese food, go for it. I just don’t think it’s authentic Chinese food.

I used to love this place and dined in and got delivery regularly. Unfortunately, we will never be returning after learning of their creative pricing and overhearing one of the most unprofessional conversation between the owner and waiter about me questioning the almost 40 $ tab for two dinner sized entrees. The waiter openly admitted that the owner will give discounts or just outright different prices to people who dine in, but doesn’t honor same price when you order take out. Still trying to figure out how we managed to eat there over ten times without being upcharged for pork fried rice instead of steamed. Then this time, it was almost 10 $!!! I don’t mind paying extra for pork fried rice but I do mind that they didn’t place me on hold and how I overheard every word about how it is what it is, but they couldn’t even explain how it was the correct price. Then when I get there, the waiter who took my order ran into other room, the owner wouldn’t even make eye contact or apologize for her unprofessional conversation, and they made this poor unsuspecting waitress to handle me. Just a huge disappointment considering how regularly we ate there. The food was always decent, but it really rubbed me the wrong way how I was treated when I merely questioned the pricing, which it sounds like I had good reason to.

Again boring and bland Chinese in Pullman. If all you want is rice to fill you up and some sweet concoction of fried chicken than this is your place. If you’re craving quality Szechuan or Sichuan cuisine wait till you go home… that is if you’re from Spokane or Seattle.

It is sad to say but New Garden has gone down hill. The last two times my husband and I ate there we where so disappointed. The pork fried rice was dry old white rice. My sweet and sour prawns smelled so bad I did not eat it in fear of getting sick. The once awesome egg rolls soggy and taste less. We will not return. It is sad when you have a good thing going and decide to cut corners to save money you are not saving money by loosing customers.

The best Chinese place following the Red Bento. If you need cheaper food than what you can get at the Red Bento then go here. They have reasonably priced dishes and portion sizes. Avoid the Emerald Chinese restaurant because this restaurant is better and the food is more flavorful than at the emerald. I like the sweet and sour prawns, fried rice and the chow mein:) My service could have been more prompt i had to ask the server to bring the check when I shouldn’t have to ask.

THEMENULISTEDONLINEANDONURBANSPOONISNOTANACCURATEMENU. That being said, if you call, the lady that answered the phone was SO helpful and accommodating. ALSO, THEYDODELIVERY! She helped me figure out what items they actually serve, versus what the online menu says. No one at New Garden added that menu. Very nice and polite. Good food, for being a Chinese food restaurant in a place like Pullman. Fairly inexpensive as well.

Dear Future Patrons of New Garden, Welcome. You have made the right choice. I know it’s hard to believe that the best almond fried chicken could be from this cozy Chinese restaurant in the metropolis that is Pullman, Washington… but it is the truth. Being from«the coast» where Asian food is abundant, I have had my fair share of ah-mazing Chinese om nom nom goodness. But, I hate to admit that my small-town, picky-as-hell boyfriend was right… the food here is just frikkin’ amazing. It really is the BEST almond fried chicken that I have had since that small Chinese place(where my parents took my sister and me to just about every weekend when we were kids) by the Seattle Ferry Terminal closed down about a decade ago. I recently tried the broccoli beef dish and that was super yummy, too. Gah. And, that sweet n’ sour chicken… can’t get enough of it. The prawns and vegetables? Winner. We like to buy the special/combo/something to eat-in and then a dinner entrée for take-out just so we can have more when we get home. If you are seeking traditional Chinese food, where you get broiled snails or pickled pig-ears, then maybe this place isn’t your style. But, if it’s good olé Chinese-American deliciousness that you’re after… Unilocal no further. Love, A fellow foodie from the other side of the state

4 stars for a Pullman standard. The food is great. You’ll learn that panda express and safeway chinese aren’t so good. The hot sour soup is delicious. Would it get a 4 star in seattle/tacoma? Probably more like a 3, but it’ll be the closest and best thing. The waiters are very sweet and the food came out promptly.

This was our local favorite before my wife and I moved out of the area. Food was always great AND consistent. Cream Cheese Wontons are delicious and the Kung Pao Veggies are great… just ask to add Tofu. Their portions are generous and you simply cannot beat their lunch menu! You will easily get two meals out of their lunch-sized portions. The service is tremendously quick and being a family owned and operated restaurant they will get to know you quickly. I miss this place!

I usually get the beef broccoli combo. This place is really delicious; but it is American Chinese food. Not authentic Chinese food. Just know that going in. I love the food portions they give you. The only thing I would complain about is the pork fried rice being a bit dry and tasteless. The entrée itself is pretty good but the sides aren’t that great. The waitresses are very friendly and genuinely are trying to do their best. They are college students like myself and I think they’re doing a great job. One of my waitress paid very close attention to detail like water level, tea, and etc. That is one thing that impressed me about this place. Good stop for the money.

I can’t count how many times I came here when I went to school here. It’s a relatively small place but the food was always excellent and I didn’t mind drinking RC Cola. I typically always went with the chicken and broccoli. They had a cute waterfall fixture outside that you can view from the back dining room.
