FAT=YOURBILL, CACTUS= YOURFOOD. It pains me to give this place 1 star… WOW… If they spent half as much time making their food taste good as they did hanging bottles from the ceiling this review might be better. I wished I had checked here BEFORE going but… Waiter was so bad, he left us forever, came back and said he had a «situation» the place was empty. He put down one basket of chips for 6 people. Then I said I wanted a wet bean and cheese burrito, and he said they don’t have bean and cheese burritos– do you have beans? do you have cheese? there you go. I was charged for a much more expensive burrito. The only thing good with my meal was my Pacifico(REALLYLOUSY choices of beers too!) and that was only because it was in a bottle and they didn’t touch it. My sister got a Margarita– It was more like a snow cone! This place is so SOSO bad, we are still talking about it. Seriously you need to skip this spot!

Got a groupon for this place… thought to give it a try since it’s in the south shore. The restaurant is part of a hotel(can’t recall the name). The place looks more livelier from the outside than the inside. Food was okay, staff not so attentive, décor/ambiance not much to say.

My boyfriend and I both got the chicken chimichangas yesterday because of a groupon that was gifted to us. We’re currently in the fetal position laying in bed on this fine Sunday with horrible food poisoning. Looking for contact info for health dept

Bad… bad… bad. Food was not authentic at all. The food presentation was not good and it tasted even worse. Service was horrible. Our server had no personality and forgot a few things. We were there at 6pm on a Saturday and the place was dead. The drinks were OK. We had the Presidente Margaritas. There are many other great Mexican restaurants that I would suggest. 1. Acapulcos — Norwood 2. Salsa’s — Hingham 3. El Sarape — Weymouth

This place is lucky it’s getting a star. Went on a Friday night at 8pm with a friend. There were less than 15 people at the bar. We sit and wait, and wait and wait. I’m not exaggerating, 10 minutes go by and she and I are like where is the bartender. Come to find out there are 2 on this really slow boring Friday night. I order a margarita on the rocks with salt-GROSS. Like its a Mexican bar! Don’t drink it! My friend wanted one of their specialty margaritas frozen but I guess the blender was broken. The place is dirty. Probably because they can’t find their cleaning products because some idiot thought it would be a good idea to put them in the same bin as the wine. I actually took a picture of it and am posting it after I’m done writing this All and all, don’t go to the fat cactus. It’s gross.

Okay. I’ve been here 3 times now. I have given this place ample time to work out kinks/get it together but it’s just not working out. I’m surprised that they actually are still in business since the last two times I was there(which were weekend nights) they have been completely dead. The last time we went we had bought a groupon now deal and wanted to use the whole thing. Our waitress was friendly enough but she kept forgetting everything we ordered and it’s not a relaxing night out when I have to keep repeating myself over and over(that sounds bitchy but it was frustrating). we ordered two appetizers. They were out of both. We chose two others, they came. They were terrible. We ate about 10% of it and were done. Our meals were equally as bad. When it came we both looked at each other in disbelief that we had actually come back to this place. We asked for the bill. It came. It was wrong. The waitress had charged us for 4 appetizers(the two we never got because they were out of them) and also sides that we didn’t get. I find that very frustrating. Especially since there are times I’m in a rush or want to pay a bill if I’m out with a friend and don’t want them to see it so I just hand the waitress my credit card. I don’t like that I can’t trust the waitress. After we get the correct bill, I’m ready to pay. There are only two other tables in the place and the waitress was talking up a storm for a good 10 minutes with the other table. IMREADYTOPAY! Seriously though. When you’re ready to leave. You’re ready to leave. There’s nothing worse than that. Finally she gets to us. Takes the bill and our cards… and drops them… and they slide under a booth. She then needs to get the Manager and two waiters who were cut but outside smoking cigarettes to try and move the built in booth. This was not her fault… but my god it felt like it couldn’t get any worse at that point. So Fat Cactus I will never see you again. Hopefully you will go out of business soon and something more decent will come in. The area really needs some good Mexican food so it’s definitely a dissapointment that the fat Cactus could not provide.

One of the worst places I’ve been to in a while. We got a Groupon ‘now’ deal on a Saturday night and that alone should have been a sign. But since this place is local and looked nice from the outside, we decided to give it a try. Well, the place was half empty at around 8:00 pm, but we still ventured on in. After being made to wait for a few minutes, the hostess led us to a table and told us our server would be with us right away. After about 15 minutes a harrowed server sashayed her way to our table. She stated they were ‘very busy’. Since we weren’t sure when we would see her next and had plenty of time to review the menu, we decided we would place our food order right away. Here is where things went down hill. We ordered the lobster tacos to which our server said, «Oh, we don’t have the, anymore. They were quite nasty and no one ordered them anyway. I am not sure why its still on the menu». Next we asked for the blackened catfish and asked for her opinion. She stated she has never had it. We finished ordering and as she walked away, we had to haller her back to take our drink order. She unapologetically noted it down and said she would bring some salsa and chips. Out came a plate of stale chips and some decent salsa along with the water we ordered. We still had not been given any silverware/napkins!!! About 15 minutes later our food arrived sans the silverware. We informed our server and she began to look at first for silverware on adjacent tables and eventually went back to the kitchen and got us some utensils. Now on to the food. Well nothing to go back for at all. The only thing half way decent was the cornbread and the beans! The fish, tacos and everything else was simply tasteless! Since we hadn’t gotten our fill of awful food and still had money on our groupon, we ordered dessert. Not much to mess up in flan, but Fat Cactus somehow managed to ruin a 2 star flan with whip cream, store bought strawberry sauce and weird tasting rainbow sprinkles. Finally, the check. Wait, if we thought we were done being would up in this cactus, we were wrong! There was an error in the check and had to be pointed out to our wonderful server. Bottom line– extremely poor service, food that is not even halfway mediocre and a scary crew should make this a 0 star, but we don’t have that option. Skip it!!! And never return back!!!

I’ve only been to Fat Cactus for the bar(lush) experience. Maybe I’ve gotten lucky every time I’ve gone because I actually really like the drinks & the restaurant as a whole. Good drinks, good service, good appetizers.

I came here twice. Boy, what was I thinking to come back here in my second time?! My mother bought a Groupon deal, that’s why. Sometimes in this case, there is reason why there are such good deals too good to be true!!!($ 40 for $ 80 for 4 people). We came here in August. The chips and salsa were meh(chips are store-bought, not fresh at all). I would have given this place 2 stars, but I am knocking off one for this one reason. When my family and I came there, we requested to sit outside(such a horrible idea when it was close to dinner time). There were no type of nets or bug zappers, so you can imagine the horror next when mosquitos started to flock over to the lamps above our seats and flew into our drinks(my poor virgin strawberry margarita… which was okay, but a bit ice-chunky). Mega… UGH. We had to move over to another table(other customers nearby did the same, as they were next to us). I couldn’t bear to eat another bite after that incident. How can I when I have to watch the bugs swarm all over the lights nearby? :/ We had to keep asking for utensils and chips and salsa twice. I feel bad for our waitress, because I don’t think she was trained properly in this type of food service. The interior décor is nice, but it definitely did not give me the chance to boost up the ratings. Plus, when we paid with the groupon, we were told that since we were off by $ 2, we still have to be obligated to pay a bit more«due to tax». I don’t believe that BS because it was already included in the payment… What let me give The Fat Cactus a one star is the fact that they actually did a decent job cooking the blackened catfish in taco or fajita forms. The rest of the food was very bland. Honestly, I had better. I will never come back here again. It saddens me that this place adds to list of not– so great food around here :/

I didn’t eat so I can’t rate the food, but the frozen margarita was pretty awful. The texture was pretty much just ice chunks with some type of island oasis margarita mix. The service was equally bad, some friends met us and although the bar wasn’t crowded, they had to walk down to other end of the bar where all of the servers were chatting to get a drink. We asked for chips and salsa twice before we got it. I can’t imagine what this place is like on a busy night! The TV’s were blaring the Olympics so loud we couldn’t even talk to each other. It is in a hotel and since there are so many wedding venues close by(that’s why we were there) you would think they would want to get it right because they would have a steady stream of business. Overall, décor and location were great, drinks and service were pretty terrible.

Disappointing is a word that springs to mind, In just about all aspects. Service was incredibly slow, even on a night when there were probably only 20 customers there, we were seated right away, but someone forgot to tell our server we were outside. Chips and salsa were brought out with our drinks, chips not very fresh, salsa ok, I think it was out of a jar, not made freshly. Appetizer — we got the beef empanadas, I think they were beef, didn’t taste of anything to be honest. Main– I got chicken burrito which was ok except for the melted dry cheese that had been added to the top at the last minute, the brown sauce served on the side was disgusting, like lumpy old brown gravy. The picco de gallo was ok as were the black beans, the rice was dry and not very tasty. The blackened chicken dish my wife had was awful. The chicken was beat to death so it resembled the sole of an old boot and was just as dry, the spices must have been added last year sometime when this chicken was first cooked, death valley isn’t as dry as this chicken. The only saving grace was the pineapple salsa on the side, obviously out of a jar, but it tried in vain to moistened the chicken. No one came back to see if we wanted a refill on drinks or check on the meal, and a different server came out and actually picked up our check from the table after our original server was MIA. I’m thinking they are approaching this as a one time, one visit place, targeting the poor and weary travelers staying at the Holiday Inn next door who don’t want to go searching around for somewhere to eat, being unfamiliar with the area. So, why try for repeat customers? After all, once they check out they won’t be coming back. And neither will we.

Nothing good about this place. Service has been terrible the two times I’ve been here. That waiters have an issue bringing over everyone’s drinks at the same time. Food is sub-par, I’d almost rather go to Chili’s for«Mexican». Rice is clearly microwaved and rubbery/tastes like leftovers. Nothing special about the tortilla chips(in fact that first time I went the chips were CHEWY like they hadn’t cooked long enough). Each time I’ve been, the bar has not been appropriately stocked(how do you run out of SAMADAMS?) Salsa is decent but not worth a trip back. It’s unfortunate that this place sucks so much. Randolph could really use a new decent dining spot.

This place is a disaster from the top down. From the management to the food, they can’t get it right. Considering how close it is to the highway and nearby towns, it has a lot of potential. I came here one night with my fiancé in the middle of an intense rainstorm. We were greeted by a hostess that looked like she was high and asked us if we wanted to sit on the patio … in a rainstorm. Methinks not. Instead, she sat us inside right in front of the live music. After working in the restaurant industry through college, I know not to argue with the hostess, but this was just ridiculous. As a «favor» she moved us to the corner in the back of the bar. Uh, thanks? Really, the chips and salsa were the best part of the meal. Since it took over 25 minutes for our two margaritas(on the rocks, not even frozen) to arrive, we plowed through 2 buckets of chips and salsa. Furthermore, the live music was absolutely terrible. The guitarist had no concept of how loud he was. Even from the furthest point away in the bar, we could barely hear each other from across the table. The food was nothing special at all. My tacos were lukewarm at best, and the rice was burnt. My fiancé was not impressed at all. We waited another 20 minutes to get our check, and left a standard 15% tip. I can deal with bad food(I just won’t come back), but bad service warrants a 15% tip. The restaurant itself is a mess. The floor was sprinkled with chip crumbs, spilled salsa, sticky tables, and dirty tables from previous patrons. Yuck!

Wow… I haven’t been this unimpressed with Mexican food since I moved to Boston. Check out my photo of the guacamole they served… horrifying! If i could’ve given no stars I would’ve done it. This is the one time I should’ve listened to fellow Unilocalers. Don’t waste your time coming here. Oh and service sucks too.

I came here a couple of times before writing this review, first time I went the service was great & the food was good, & the drinks were great. The second time, the food was better, however, the service sucked. The waitress was a total flake, she kept forgetting everything, like our complimentary Salsa & chips, & drinks, when she finally brought them over & I said we were ready to order, she said she had to take care of the other table first & forgot about us for another 5 minutes. She came back to check on us a couple of times and when we had finished she had cleared the table, but then she never came back to give us our check, I finally flagged her down to ask for it, & she had admitted she forgot. Well, at this point I decided to time her. I saw her go into the kitchen, come out with food for other customers, take an order form another table, go to the register/computer, but then grab a broom & started sweeping. Thank god there a Manager there, so I just grabbed to ask him for our check & that is when she came rushing over with it. She said«Do you want me to wait for the bill?» I just looked at her & she said«She would wait around for us to pay. We just paid the bill & which I have no clue why still left a tip. I know I am suppose to talk about the food, but I was so pissed off I needed to talk about the service here instead.

Great Mexican food and awesome atmosphere. Don’t expect some formal dining experience here. This is as casual as it gets… almost expected the beach to be right outside. The décor is straight out of a South of the Boarder fantasy with all kinds of bottles hanging from the ceiling and painted in bright mesmerizing colors with all sorts of themed decorations. Started off with free chips and salsa which is always great. Not too salty unlike other places… they have a large Margarita menu but today I chose a frozen piña colada /strawberry daiquiri. Great summer drink! We had the tequila lime wings for an app. Tasty to say the least. I ordered the chicken chimichangas for dinner and enjoyed every second of it! Friendly service and all around amazing vibe. I know it just opened so I expected some slip-ups. Guess I got lucky. They are supposed to be having live entertainment every night in the near future… will be coming in for that. Definitely recommend it not only for the quality mexican food and drinks, but also for the atmosphere and experience. Check it out!

We drove by and saw that this place is new, it is connected to the hotel as an addition. It was so new that the dumpsters were still in the parking lot from the construction. We walked in and asked how long have they been here? They said about 3 hours today is opening day for them. First Impression was this is a fun place, they have a great and friendly staff. The place is decorated in traditional Mexican colors and hundreds of bottles hanging from the ceiling. We sat at the bar and had a couple beers with chips and salsa, the salsa was fresh and tasty. I ordered a dish with soft tacos which had carne asada, rice, and all the taco fixins and black beans on the side. My wife ordered the Southwest Chicken Baja rolls, these are like a Mexican egg rolls, they were very good too. The portions were nice, we were full when we left. It was a nice time, we will be back.
