Really enjoyed this place. Food was good, staff was awesome. Took a menu home and will be ordering again from this place very soon!

My new favorite spot for sit down Mexican food. I ordered had the beef and bean burrito with rice. The food arrived hot and the service was prompt and friendly. Probably the best tasting burrito I have had in quite some time. I like that its a little hole in the wall mom and pop operation. Will definitely be coming back for more.

The food is delicious here. Authentic mexican and enormous proportions. I had the cheese enchiladas with refried beans. They were covered in the yummy cojita cheese. It’s worth the drive to Mountain Gate. I gave it a 3 star because the the owners seemed rushed and agitated. Like we might have been imposing on them by eating there. I don’t normally like to write reviews about service. But love in the food can be tasted and so can rushing and agitation. Not sure if it was a bad day for both of them? Don’t even mind that it’s in a gas station, I find that cool and unique. But I do hope they are more calm and present when i go in again. I do plan to eat there again because the food is great.

Hands down the best Mexican food in the Redding area. Prompt and polite service dishing up authentic Mexican cuisine. This is my go-to, and you should make it yours, too!

Great restaurant. Only four stars because mexican food is always better in Mexico. Five adults in our group, we all liked our meals very much. Will definitely go back when in the area next. Large portions, fresh ingredients, friendly proprietors.

We have never been disappointed here. Our favorite meal is the chicken fajita burrito. My family loves to find hole-in-the-wall restaurants and this joint which is located inside of a gas station is certainly that. Also the family that owns and operates the place are really nice and hardworking. In all of the times we have been here, they are the only ones we have seen working in here. Take the short drive north of Redding and enjoy a mom and pop shop as opposed to the myriad of franchise restaurants that Redding is full of.

Hahaha, who goes to this place after coming back from Mexico? We do! Haha. A group that I was with were on a search for some food on our drive back from Mexico and one of the leaders, who is Mexican, was craving Mexican. Hahaha, keep in mind, literally, we were in Mexico less than 20 hours before. Anyway, we pull into this gas station-slash-restaurant. It was SO hot coming in. But we enter through the gas station, and I laugh at this. Is this really a restaurant/gas station? Wait, or was it a corner store? I forget. But unfortunately, the food isn’t the best here. We were nicely seated and got a few menus and enough time to order. After pensive thinking, I decide to get enchiladas(chicken) for their lunch special which comes with rice and beans. We all order, and they also give us free chips and salsa as we wait. I ordered a jamaica drink(it’s like a flower juice). It is alright. I would rate it a 4⁄5. Few minutes later, we get our food. Keep in mind, I have made authentic Mexican food, have been to Mexico twice, and am aware of the culture(and continually learning the Hispanic culture and food). I get the enchiladas, and am not really impressed. It looks okay, but the taste is worse. I cut into it, and the tortilla used tastes like it was microwaved with the food. The food is not prepped the way enchiladas are made in the oven(baked) with sauce. The tortillas were sort of hard, like in a soggy way. I didn’t like it, so i took it off and just ate the meat(filling) with the rice. The rice and beans weren’t too bad. They were edible enough. So I settled for that.(Oh, and my dish + drink was about $ 9). My friends got a burrito. Not sure which one, but one friend had a nasty burrito and the other friend had a great tasting burrito. I wish I knew which one was the good one. Ehhh. My other friend ordered the safe, chicken tenders and fries. That was good, haha. Tasted like any other joint. Overall, great service, nice folks, but not the greatest food. I would never come here again. Sorry!

They are still open and cooking some good food. We both had their Grande burritos, wife grilled chicken and myself ground beef, both great flavor, the right amount heat and large enough to bring a lil leftover home. Not bad for 15.00. The only bad thing was chef was our waiter, too, and didn’t offer to top off our drinks, check on satisfaction, etc, perhaps another empl failed to show for work, will give benefit of doubt.

the food was absolutely TERRIBLE… completely flavorless and barely edible. I will never, ever go back… a total waste of thirty bucks on a meal for four to go. Go to Los Gordos, Chipotle, Señor Rosas or Burrito Bandito but don’t waste your money at La Fogata.

The best value in burritos in Redding comes from this restaurant in the form of the«Grande» burrito. I have been going to this restaurant for over a year and have found the food to be of a high quality, the only complaint I have heard is that with its low number of staff(mainly a husband and wife), if it gets crowded then service can be slow but I have only seen that happen once or twice. In early 2008 or late 2007 they have relocated to a shared space with a gas station convenience store, but the food is just as great as ever and the prices have stayed the same. My favorite burrito they serve is the chile colorado, though the chile verde is a close second. The burritos strike an outstanding balance of the 3 principal internal ingredients of beans, meat, and rice and they are not stingy with the cheese on top. Here’s a hint on their location: take the Wonderland Blvd. exit.
