24 Hour Fitness

Third time in 10 days that I walk in to swim or workout and they are totally out of towels. Nothing. What to do? Need to walk out without a workout. Wasted trip. What is with this place? Shit for management. What management? Walk in this place and they have 3 employees behind the reception desk, all of them with their heads bowed, starring into their cell phones, nobody even looks up to greet their clients, they dont even notice most of the time. What a gig. Maybe one of them should go check the laundry?

I have been coming to this gym since their opening in May 2015 and I love it! Excellent customer service from the check in desk to the associates on the floor. The cleaning crew does a great job keeping things neat and wiped down. I come to workout in the mornings and I always see the cleaning crew working hard! Weights are usually put back where they belong and on occasion, towels or empty drink bottles are left on the ground or on the equipment but this does not negatively reflect on the gym staff. This negatively reflects the MEMBERS that feel like its okay to leave trash anywhere but in the trash can. You literally have to walk by probably 4 – 5 garbage cans to get out of the gym. Take your crap with you! Clean up after yourself!
This location has continued to operate at 5 starts for the several months I have been coming here. Definitely the best gym in the bay area. Keep up the great work, 24!

Why does this place have a 3 star? This is the best 24 I’ve seen. And I’ve been to about 5 other super sports. It’s clean and what I like most is when you walk in. It feels open. I love how the upstairs is setup. Again plenty of room to get around. The employees always greet with a smile. So far I have no complaints. I love coming here. My only request is If they can start having 6am body pump classes here. I wouldn’t have to go to any other gym. Lol

It’s so great to have a «Super Sport» 24-​Hour Fitness so close to my office. The place is huge, including a pool, group exercise room (+ classes), childcare center, & a pretty large complement of cardio machines, free weights/​lifting platforms, & machines. There’s also a devoted stretching area with mats. The showers are much nicer than the «Sport» clubs too (real doors & everything!). And of course having towel service is awesome.
Everyone has always been perfectly nice and friendly to me, and there is so much equipment that I don’t think I’ve ever once had to wait for anything. I also like that anyone can use the group exercise room & the equipment in there if there’s not a class going (which there never seems to be when I’m there — haven’t attended any classes so I can’t comment on that).

This gym is definitely my favorite 24 Hour Fitness in the Bay Area. First off, it is less than a year old, so all the machines and weight equipment are in nearly tip-​top shape and the staff seems to fix or replace any broken equipment fast. As well, the locker rooms, bathrooms and pool/​sauna areas are in much better shape than most other gyms. Further, the classes at this gym are great! The yoga class taught by Cassandra at 10:30am on Wednesdays is an amazing class; a great workout and relaxing. Most of the cycle/​rpm classes are really good, but I would highly recommend the cycle classes taught by Joel (usually 12pm on a couple weekdays). Also, the 8am Saturday BodyPump class with Sue and the 9:30am Sunday BodyPump class with Dante are both super fun and a great workout. Lastly, the staff is great and always friendly and helpful.

*ABOUT FITNESS CLASSES*
I mainly want to have this review be about the awesome fitness classes this gym offers. I’m new to public gyms since the last 4 years I was a member at my college gym. I LOVE how enthusiastic and very positive each fitness class instructors is. I’ve taken Yoga, the Barbell, Bootcamp and Body Pump class mainly because of my availability. My first day at each one I was acknowledged even if I was in the back, and was asked if this was my first time. They even went as far as complementing at how hard I worked having it be my first time in their class. (I’ve been active all my life). I really appreciated the extra mile each instructor went just to give me high fives, pointers, motivation and recommendations to return and get better. They do also offer modifications, as they should, and alternatives for beginners.
**Moving on to how clean this place is which seems to be important so some people when choosing a gym:
I’ve worked at a gym for almost 3 years. I know what it’s like from both ends, working as a gym employee and supervisor and now as a gym member here at 24hr. Yes, sometimes this place is not as neat and clean as people expect or we pay for– it’s a gym, nasty people make it nasty. Sometimes they are understaffed during peak hours. It HAPPENS. But I do see their cleaning staff do their duties even on the stairs. The STAIRS. CLEANING THE STAIRS. I remember me having to do that as a gym employee. These people clean. I mean, imagine how many nasty sweaty people touch those stairs, and drop sweat on those stairs? Weird but believe it or not-​necessary. Bathrooms are relatively clean also. Again peak hours are peak hours. As long as this place isn’t damn right filthy I’m happy. I can’t see why they can ever be. Now, I can’t say much about non peak hours since I’m at work during those times. Sometimes they are low on towels. Again during peak times, so I always carry an extra towel in my car JUST IN CASE.
Over all, staff is friendly. They almost always welcome you by your name which is nice even if I’m very anti social. I haven’t had a problem here yet, not to say I’m expecting one either.
Love this place.

One of the best locations on the Peninsula. While the equipment is great and it’s fairly clean, the biggest thing is that they never have any towels. Came here multiple days at different times and there weren’t any towels. In the locker room however they have stacks of used ones.
That aside, the equipment and the facilities are great.

I’m updating my review. My most recent visit to the gym I was disappointed with how DISGUSTING the locker room was. I went to an employee to complain because it was unacceptable how dirty it was, he explained that their was no women on duty so it couldn’t be cleaned. Wtf? It looked like it hasn’t been cleaned ALL DAY. I’ll post photos of just how f****** nasty it was!

I took some pictures on Sunday January 4.2016 at 8.00pm.I believe you will be the judge. I felt disgusted. I don’t have anything else to say just one think I paying monthly for service to have towels and it was more than twice they I were not available.

First of all, I hate exercise! But I know its best for me so I decided to try some classes. And so far I’ve been quite loyal in exercising.
I tried the Senior fitness class first. I wanted something not too hard but do-​able for the person who never exercises. It was great. Everyone is about my age and they do whatever they are able to do. There are no absolute rules that you have to hop or jump or kick or run, you can just move «at your own pace». And you feel comfortable going at your own pace and not feel awkward. The instructor is an older person who has taught exercise/​fitness for years. She makes everyone feel comfortable and gives breaks for rest and water. A good personality also helps.
I’ve taken the aqua fitness class also. There are lots of people taking this class of all ages but generally older folks (not elder, just older) The instructors have been young females directing from outside the pool. Seems like most participants enjoy this exercise and come regularly. It was okay for me. I really didn’t like first entering the pool. The water was tepid but not warm. It takes me a while to get used to the temperature and then the experience was okay. Afterwards I awarded myself the luxury of the hot-​tub nearby. The temperature was warm to hot and felt good after the aqua fitness.
That is all I’ve done there. Upstairs are the machines which one day I’ll try but not yet. Just now getting accustomed to exercising in general.
The entry is huge with a sales area to the left selling you anything healthy. To the right is the children’s play room. Ahead is the finger sign in desk with employees greeting you as you come in. You can take towels at this area. (towels are stiff and thin but do tend to absorb liquid well)
Further on are the locker rooms. Woman’s locker room is quite spacious. Lockers large. Bring your own lock and try to remember the combination. I once saw someone get an employee to «cut» their lock because they forgot the combination.
There are benches if needed, bathrooms, showers with warm (not hot) water and a great machine that uses centrifugal force to dry your wet items.
Would like to see more senior classes. And perhaps warmer/​hotter water in the pool, showers and hot tub, but that is personal preference.
Overall this 24 Hour Fitness is great. Everything is clean and spotless, employees very nice, parking available and nice location.

I’ve been a monthly dues paying member for close to ten years but today I cancelled my membership due to a recent policy adopted at this club. It’s always been my experience that machines and weights are on a first-​come, first-​serve basis for the use of all dues-​paying members; I think this is a fair and just policy and it’s the one I signed up for 10 years ago. But recently at this club, every Mon, Wed, Fri from 6pm to 8pm (what I consider peak times after normal working hours) they’ve instituted a policy where they reserve approximately 30−40% of the treadmills and the TRX area for what appears to be some type of group circuit training class that members pay additional fees for. As an aside, because of the circuit nature of the class, the reserved treadmills/​areas remain unused for what I perceive to be the majority of the time.
Today I decided to exercise my own form of civil disobedience by ignoring the reserved signs and I hopped on one of the unused treadmills. After about 15 minutes of running (again, as an aside, all the other treadmills were unused during this time!) the trainer in charge of the class asked me to vacate the machine. When I refused, she more adamantly kicked me off the machine and I immediately asked to see the manager. The manager stood by this policy and I cancelled my membership and got a refund for previously paid dues.
In effect, this policy is creating a tiered class of machines/​areas in the gym that can only be used by paying additional fees; way too capitalistic to me and not what I want from my neighborhood gym. This is somewhat analogous to ISPs attempting to thwart net neutrality by creating «fast lanes» of internet traffic during peak hours accessible only to the wealthy content providers/​businesses.
Hey 24 hour fitness, I get it, you’re a corporation and your job is to make money for your shareholders and this policy is not against the law (there is no net neutrality concept for gyms). I just hope you were aware of this club’s policy choice and approved it from a business perspective. If I were to guess, people who take these types of classes come and go but people like me who are willing to pay every month for 10 years (and who, until today, would’ve probably done it for the rest of his life) are the members that really pay off in the long run. But again, as long as you were aware of it, I’m sure your business execs did the math and the cost benefit analyses and logically concluded that people like me (who were willing to quit over this new policy) and my lifetime dues are an affordable loss.
P. S. To the trainer who got pretty heated during my stance for justice, I’d like to say I’m sorry as it was not my intent to upset you emotionally. As a paid employee, you were an unintended victim in my stance against 24 hour fitness. You were just doing your job and I was hoping you wouldn’t take it personally, but it’s understandable that you did.

I don’t give a lot of 5 stars, has to be amazing but for a 24 hour fitness chain this place is really as close as it gets. If save 5 for the she she places with massages and so forth. I’m not sure why it’s not rated higher. Obviously the folks reviewing having been to many other locations in the chain cause this is far superior! No clumps of hot in the showers despite the full time cleaning attendant! No signs in broken equipment promising new stuff will arrive soon. No issue with getting a towel and dealing with unprofessional staff. Really if it was closer to home I’d go every day! Big shout out to a great team in redwood city!

I’m rating this particular 24 gym as between 2 and 3 stars.
I’ve been to numerous gyms and I must say that although this is the newest one that I’ve been to so far, it did not impress overall on the first visit.
I decided to visit this location, because it’s a little bit closer to where I work. I prefer to work out in the mornings before work ~5am, so I tend to beat the morning rush (traffic and gym goers alike). I had no trouble at all finding the place or finding parking in the lot. It looks super nice outside!
Anyways, what I first noticed was that while I was checking in, the front desk person was watching me… okay? Good morning to you too? :P And then I was grabbing my towel while he was folding another towel, and we just had this awkward stare-​fest. Weird? His face seemed a bit standoffish in my opinion, I guess he didn’t like having to work so early.
The actual working out experience overall was just fine. I suppose it’s just personal preference, but I think I’d just be coming here for mornings dedicated to cardio, since their machines are newer.
As a side-​note, the bathroom didn’t have much of a stench or anything, though there was a bit of trash (crumpled paper towels) around the machines, etc. Typical ups and downs of a busy gym.
It’s okay, but not my favorite 24 Hour Fitness gym. I just felt awkward and unwelcome the moment I even walked in and was checking in. :/​
Like I said above, I’ll be returning to use their facilities, so I’ll write an updated review if my experience here improves.

Really clean place. Weights are clean, matts are clean, pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, all very clean. This is what a Super sport should be like. They have a neon blue lit cycle room. I don’t have to wait for weight machines as busy as it is. There are a lot of machines.

No * for: Front desk staff not greeting when you walk in. Why look at me the whole time without saying hello? (thus looking unfriendly and unwelcoming)
No * for: The pool is always busy. Only 3 lanes, with two lanes allowing only two ppl at a time. One «free lane» for no specific number of ppl.
Yes this place is new, yes it’s spacious and a good variety of machines. But some of the usual gym rants: ppl not cleaning the machines after using them, guys staring at me while I use the machines closest to the weights area, two weird encounters with (a specific race), crowded after work hrs (5pm).

Don’t want to be stuck in traffic off 101 or Dumbarton right after work? Go to this gym!
Ever since this location opened up near my work I’ve been going everyday as traffic dies down. Just like my local gym, this gym’s parking lot gets packed quick during peak times. By the time I get there around 5pm, people are starting to roll in. When I leave, people are still looking for spots to take.
All the equipment are upstairs. Downstairs they have the pool and exercise room. Sadly this location doesn’t have a basketball court which would’ve made this place even better. The locker rooms are nice and big. For some reason their toilets aren’t really clean whenever I go. There hasn’t been a time where they’ve been clean enough. That being said, people destroy the toilets and just leave the tissue all over the bowls. Not sure if they know about this, but it’s disgusting and it’s the same as the 24 on Whipple.
The layout of the 2^nd floor is pretty spacious. I like how I have enough room to do lunges in two rows. The dumbbells are pretty organized compared to other 24’s. The only thing I didn’t like was that they told me not to use their weights in the training area since they were reserved for their clients, even though no one was currently using them. It frustrated me how they limited their dumbbells when they only have two sets.
The place is clean and the people that go here actually clean up after themselves. The cardio room is nice. I like how it overlooks 101, so I can tell if the traffic died down or is still pretty bad. Overall this place gets a 3.5÷5.

Been to this location a few times and have had great experiences.
The place is clean and the staff is friendly!
The classes I’ve taken aren’t crazy packed like the super sport in San Mateo.
Def my go to for tennishia’s Zumba classes.

Hadn’t had any reviews I didn’t know what to expect while I was visiting this area and looking for a gym. I am glad that I saw this location off the street before continuing to the other side of the free to a different gym.
As far as 24Hr Fitnesses go this is up there as being spectacular. As you walk up to the gym you see why 24hr continues to be the leader in the fitness gym industry. As you walk into the grand floor plan you that great vibe continues. I was greeted with smiles and pleasantries. As Super Sports go, there were plenty of fresh folded towels ready to be used. Self locking combination lockers are so easy to use and make it so convenient when you forget your lock at home hundreds of miles away.
Everything but the group x class, pool and locker rooms are located upstairs. Upstairs boast plenty of cardio equipment from treadmills, stair climbers and all that other cardio stuff.
Now when you make to make gains the free weights and gym equipment is behind ya. Large floor space, evenly spaced out so your not touching elbows, clean and well maintained. Every piece of equipment I used was in perfect working order, clean and 95% of the weights were put back in the correct spot. Makes it a lot easier when you just want to come in and lift.
As far as the staff goes the front desk was very helpful in answering all my questions about the gym, surrounding area and where the equipment is. I dislike not knowing where everything is at. The trainers I saw working with clients seem to actually have knowledge on training, anatomy and proper form based off my visit. Not to mention all the people in the gym appeared to be super friendly and not stand offish or disrespectful. If you lift, remember we lift up l, weights and people.
I am happy to give this location its first review and a solid 5 stars.

Finally an awesome 24 Hour Fitness on the peninsula! This facility is 2 levels with pool on the bottom, some fitness rooms, child care, sales area, locker rooms and of course, the check-​in counter. The second level is spacious enough to house multiple cardio machines and a wide variety or free weights and machines.
Like every other gym this place can get hectic at peak hours, but for the most part I can manage to find a piece of equipment to get a good work out. They have a lot of brank spanking new machines here that aren’t at any of the other local gyms. I am loving that Total Gym Abdominal Core Exercise Machine. Adjacent to that is some rope pulling machine that targets your arms and back out really well. –finally a gym with more than one sitting leg press! The treadmills are in abundance here. There’s a new cardio machine I enjoy from time to time called the Lateral X Elliptical. It has different settings in a lateral motion mostly to strengthen quads and use your hip abductor muscles. Sometimes I will use this machine just for the built in fan which blows right into my face.
This is the best 24 hour around. There is plenty of variety offered here to exploit «muscle confusion» and get an excellent work out every time!
