Jose and his team are outstanding to work with. We had his team work on an elaborate front fence, take out our lawns, and plant drought resistant plants over the summer. His team was thorough and friendly and did an outstanding job. What’s great about Jose and his team is that you don’t need a designer if you work with them — they’ve seen all sorts of designs before and they will know what you want based pictures and simple instructions. Great group.

I recently worked with Jose on building a long set of stairs in the hillside backyard of my new home.
I had a fixed budget and Jose worked with me on what he could do for my budget. His communication is top-​notch, both by phone and email. The project turned out beautifully, even better than I had pictured in my head. Jose’s crew are skilled and worked very hard. They were polite and respectful the entire time, and cleaned up each day before they went home.
I give JDH Garden Services my full endorsement. If you are looking for regular gardening services, or landscaping projects of any size JDH will impress you. I’m very pleased with how our project turned out and have already received several compliments on it. I look forward to working with Jose on future projects.

Jose is fantastic! I needed him to stop by and evaluate a broken sprinkler system. Not only did he do the necessary repairs he also took the time to fix a faulty wire and valve and to re-​program our control box. We contacted Jose and meet with him to discuss our needs. He had good ideas and recommendations. Jose was easy to work with and did a great job.
His price was fair and he started work within a couple of weeks. A week earlier than he had originally estimated.
We wanted to remove our dead lawn and old irrigation. Jose sent me a list of plants that should work well and I let him know my preferences. I liked most everything and he brought a few things that were not on the list that look great. He even saved one of the few plants I had been able to keep alive and replanted with the others. There was lots of clean up of overgrowth which now looks great and as if it was part of the whole landscaping plan.
We now have a drip irrigation system going and Jose even put a drip on my container on the front porch so I don’t have to think about watering anything. This was a small detail and nice touch.
Our project was completed within a few weeks and I am very happy with the results. I’m pretty easy going about where things were placed, but Jose was patient with the few changes I wanted and I could tell if I had been more picky he would have been very accommodating.
I’d say the only downside was that sometimes email communications were not always super quick, but I wanted someone to landscape my front yard, not be a pen pal.

I sublet my home for a year to someone while my husband and I were living abroad. The tenant had two small dogs and smoked in our backyard and didn’t clean up after the dogs or himself! I called several landscapers in the area to come and give me an estimate to restore my backyard to what it had once been. Of everyone I met with Jose was the most respectful of my home, gave a fair estimate and timeframe for the work, and didn’t try to push additional work on me that I wasn’t ready to do.
Jose and his crew absolutely transformed my backyard into a clean beautiful space. Their work was thorough, efficient, timely, and I could absolutely tell they truly cared about restoring my backyard and making it even better than it was. I will absolutely call Jose for additional outside projects and would recommend him to anyone looking to beautify their outdoor living space.

JDH Garden services has been one of the best experiences I’ve had with any contract service. Jose came to my place the day after I called for an estimate. I knew kind of what I wanted to do to my backyard, but I’m no landscape designer by far. Jose listened carefully to what I was thinking and immediately gave me some ideas about what could be done and the best way to do it and what kind of materials to use. At first I was a little hesitant because he was just jotting things down on paper with no pictures. But he knew exactly what I was looking for and within a few days my backyard was transformed from a hideous jungle into a beautiful, well designed water efficient garden. I plan on using JDH Garden Services in the future and I highly recommend this business.

Very happy with Jose and his maintenance team! Professional, on time, and thorough — they get the job done right. I’ve used JDH for a couple jobs so far and both were completed to standard and charged at competitive rates. The quote was very fair, and only changed with added requests that I made.
First, what I look for is dependability (there’s nothing worse than wondering if someone is going to show up). From day one, Jose’s team arrived on time, or sometimes a little early to start working on our yard. The guys were friendly, very hardworking (8 hour+ days with very little break time), and left the work area clean and tidy every day when they left.
They leveled 800 sq ft of yard, laying tons of base rock, sand, and 400 sq ft of pavers, plus 3 tons stones, assembled an 8×15 shed, and ran drainage and electrical pipe underneath. They also reconfigured our irrigation system. All this in under two weeks and always with a smile :).
I would definitely recommend you contact Jose for a quote. I will for any other work I need done.

My husband and I just moved into our house and we wanted to totally redo our front yard, which included putting in grass. I found JDH Gardening Services on Unilocal and was impressed with the great reviews. Jose Henriquez and his team came by to give us an estimate and upon meeting Jose, we knew that he «knew his stuff». He was very knowledgeable of the right sod to put down and what plants/​trees/​shrubs worked best for which area of the yard. He gave us some great suggestions to our proposed «ask». His team came out to start the job. My husband wanted to do flagstone in the front entrance, but I wasn’t 100% with it. So, mid-​job, I asked Jose if we could just use bigger pavers than what we had in this other area. I picked out the bigger pavers, but then my husband said «well, why don’t we just continue using the same size pavers we currently have and just hope that Jose can find the same color match.» Well… HE DID. Jose found the perfect match and then the job continued as planned.
So, even with my multiple changes in the plan, Jose graciously worked with me on it and told me that «he would rather do what I like and do it right, than for me to not like the end result.» The end result is a BEAUTIFUL front yard that I love to wake up to. My husband and I were very impressed with the level of professionalism, knowledge and kindness Jose and his team displayed. They did a lot of work, a GREAT job and it was reasonably and fairly priced. We were only going to have Jose and team do the front yard landscaping. But, have now decided to have them continue maintenance, as the yard is so nice now and we don’t want to mess it up. :-)

Late this summer I employed JDH Garden Services for the third time within the past five years. Once again, Jose Henriquez’s crew did a fantastic job for me!
Jose is very professional, friendly, and responsive. Jose prepared a written list of services with a cost estimate, which I then modified (after thinking about what really needed to be done). He responded in a timely manner with a new contract and estimate, and we set up a job start date which worked for both of us.
This was a 3-​full-​days job, 2 men on the first day, then 3 or 4 men on days 2 and 3. I have about 7 separate garden areas that were in need of a detailed clean-​up, bend-​a-​boards and boarders needed to be added to several areas, parts of the irrigation system needed modification, and finally every area with plantings, trees, shurbs, etc. needed a new deep mulch layer.
The crew was great to work with, followed my instructions and were professional, careful, and meticulous in their work. When I altered a few tasks as we went along, they cheerfullly and politely made the changes for me. This was hard, hard work, and I greatly appreciate what they did for me. A big thank you to Jonathan, Gonzalo, and the 2 other men.
I was absolutely thrilled with the results — the landscaping (¹⁄₃ acre in a U-​shape around my house) looked brand new! Nice and neat, just the way I like it! I love the fact that JDH Garden services offers this «one-​time, when you need it, big clean up» service.
In fact, I’ll be calling Jose shortly for another task which needs doing!

Jose was very professional at every opportunity, from scheduling a time to scope the job, drafting the initial quote and eventually the final invoice.
He had a well qualified team working the project who communicated at just the right level to make for a successful project.
No surprises, no breakage, and when everything was completed, his team cleaned up the site and verified everything was in perfect working order before they left. There were a lot of materials used for the project, and I may have been able to get it done a little bit cheaper, but the professionalism and ease of working with Jose and his team, and the fact they got it done right the first time makes me look forward to using his services again.

Jose came by to see my yard, conducted the assessment of our sprinkler system and wrote an estimate in a timely manner. Once I accepted they quickly repaired all the broken lines, installed drip irrigation and they even repaired my drinking fountain! They do great work and I highly recommend them.

We hired Jose to completely re-​landscape our front and back patios. Jose and his team were fantastic to deal with, friendly, professional, and hard working, even on some of the hottest days of the year. The project involved tree and plant removal, adding irrigation with timers, flattening ground and covering with pavers, installing a section of artificial grass, planting a variety of vegetation, and other things. And during the job, they worked around a somewhat interfering fence installation without complaint. We are completely thrilled with the end results and have received many compliments from neighbors and visitors.
Jose was responsive to all our questions and changes of plans and clearly explained things along the way. Really the only area for improvement is in the final invoicing where we only got one small receipt for some material. Don’t get me wrong, there was absolutely no reason to question any charges. Estimates and costs were checked beforehand and whenever changes were discussed, but I think many customers expect to see copies of all receipts with a complete breakdown of costs.
We will continue to have Jose periodically maintain our plants and irrigation.

We have worked with Jose a few times over the past year and we have always been very pleased with his work. He is professional and very friendly. Super responsive over email and very courteous in person. His team has done a full cleanup of our front and back yard twice now and both times we always are amazed at how great everything looks! He also helps us fix our sprinklers and irrigation system. I would definitely use him again.

Jose and his team did a great job on my yard. I have a townhouse with a courtyard in the back and had wanting to fix up the garden for a while after repaving the patio. He worked with me to do a few things:
1) Remove the existing star jasmine bushes (I’m allergic)
2) Select and plant new flowers, bushes, etc. (this was the most important part)
3) Set up an automatic drip system
He was always very responsive to email and on the phone.
After about all the new plants were in we realized the garden still looked a little sparse, and since I wanted a fuller look Jose offered to bring in more plants and add them– no charge for additional labor and just the materials.
I would recommend Jose and his team, he works hard to ensure his customers are happy.

The guys were excellent. They did a thorough job and cleaned my yard like I have never seen it before. They were well equipped and needed minimal direction to get the job done. I highly recommend this service. They were on time and finished the job in two hours. I will definitely, most definitely use their service again.

Poor communication. Invoice/​billing errors charging me for items that were never used. Inaccurate reporting of hours worked. Non-​transparent about materials used vs. materials billed. Incomplete communication about material rental fees for various tasks. Work accomplished seems to be fine – no issues so far. Solicited for a Unilocal review before I even got a finalized job invoice.
You pay for hours spent on-​site AND alleged hours spent buying materials (may be costly, you pay the rate PER WORKER – doesn’t generally take more than one person to buy materials). Was not clarified before the work started. You are billed for materials they purchase, not actual quantities used on your job (i.e., they pull materials from their stock, and then invoice you for quantities they buy to replenish their stock) – the problem is you end up paying for material that was not used to completion, and they get to keep the remainder. I find this to be a disingenuous way of doing business – any other home-​maintenance job we’ve ever done either credited the client for materials not used, or left the excess materials with the client. Not charging the client for materials that were not actually used in the job.
I don’t give poor Unilocal reviews lightly. I did not have a great experience with JDH, mainly due to communication and billing issues. Up-​front, the work that was completed appears to be fine. But I have reservations about recommending JDH Garden Services.
Poor communication. It’s not just a language barrier as other reviewers have mentioned. I found communication about everything starting at the estimate to be a problem, mainly in retrospect. First of all, the estimate I received for the job was only a quote of the hours expected to finish the job (3 – 5 in my case). I completely acknowledged with Jose that the job may take longer depending on how complicated some things were after the work started. But nowhere on the estimate did it address material costs, equipment usage or fees, etc. which was disappointing – essentially the estimate is only a quote of the number of labor hours expected, nothing even resembling a cost estimate.
The other area of communication issue is that other workers are designated to come out and actually execute the work – these people were not with Jose for the original walkthrough, so the people doing the work are not the people who were at the initial meeting and discussion of work. This leads to inefficiencies in getting work started (I had to go through the same irrigation system and problems with the workers as I did with Jose, which ate into labor time).
Background: We wanted to overhaul our 6-​zone residential sprinkler system, starting from a new timer box through to new valves and replace a few malfunctioning heads. Some valves would have to be relocated from concrete to other areas. Jose came out to my house to do an initial walk-​through. He estimated 3 – 5 hours of labor for 2 workers.
The job ended up being a 2-​day job (vs. the initial 3 – 5 hours) due to complications in having to cut concrete – no prob. we wanted peace-​of-​mind in having an overhauled system.
When I received my invoice for the work completed, I was troubled by some items. First, I was billed for 13 hours of labor, but I could only account for 11 hours of the workers being on-​site and working. I was notified that the discrepancy was due to the time spent buying materials – which was not communicated in the estimate that the client was billed for hours spent buying materials. After questioning whether it really took 2 hours to buy materials, he only charged me for 1 hour.
Then I noticed some discrepancies in the material receipts provided vs. the work done. I was charged for a wood float tool to smooth out the concrete, but I was not given this tool after the job (i.e., I bought them a tool that they get to keep for other work). I was also charged for 7 valves on the invoice when we only have a 6-​valve system. I was charged for a $ 75 concrete cutter rental fee that was I was never notified about. Conveniently, after questioning Jose on the materials invoiced, he said that those items should have been credited in the first place, and he didn’t know why I was charged for them (not very careful in billing). And then also credited me for the machine rental fee since he never informed me of that need in the first place. Questioned on materials used vs. materials billed, and basically told «that’s the way it works» (though that’s not the way it works with any other job contractor I’ve ever used).
Despite working with me slightly on the overall bill, I was still frustrated with the poor communication, and the poor estimate for the work done. I would highly consider looking at other services in the area, or at the very least, press them for actual material and cost estimates for your job.

Jose lives up to the Unilocal reviews. I hired Jose’s company to do bi-​weekly landscaping for our new home. So far, JDH Garden Services has been great.
Jose showed up in person the first day and introduced himself. He is very responsive both to text and email requests. He always responds to email within a day. I really appreciate someone in this business who is able to respond by phone and by email. He speaks English just fine in case you’re wondering.
He also did some special projects for us like removing trees and shrubs, preparing new areas for planting (we wanted to do the planting and design ourselves), and quoting us for any work that is outside of the maintenance work. He’s been very flexible with customizing the scope of work.
Sometimes, I want him and his crew to do all the work and I just write him a check. Sometimes, I want to do some of the work myself because I enjoy gardening (and to save money) and he’s very flexible in customizing a quote for what I want his crew to do.
This week, his crew accidentally broke one of our sprinkler heads while mowing the lawn– it happens, a lawn mower can snap off a sprinkler head at the riser and you might not know it until the sprinklers run again. I emailed him a picture of what I found when I got home, and he responded the next morning by email. This is what he wrote:
«I will do my best to send someone today but if I can’t someone will be out there tomorrow to fix this for you.

The only downside is that he’s definitely expensive. But what you get in return is that his company is reliable, he takes his job seriously, and all of his employees are insured with worker’s comp– this is the responsible way to do business anyway.
I would recommend Jose and his company if you want a top notch looking yard.
