Bohemian Rhapsody

After my journey for delicious cupcakes [see Just Baked review] it was a hard decision: going to see «I love you, man» @ the movies or venturing to Royal Oak to check out this store! We voted for Royal Oak. Found this awesome spot to park on the street and couldn’t wait to get inside. It looked so funky, fresh and modern from the street!
I didn’t walk out with any new purchases, but I will keep this place in mind. There are so many cute things inside and unique gifts for that one person on your shopping list that has everything known to man, but could use a lil something «different» in their lives. Incense, metal wall art, body lotions that smell like birthday cake, they had so much to see! I was going to buy this adorable frog face plate and matching bowl for my son, but seeing as it was breakable and $ 14 a piece, it wasn’t something I couldn’t live without.
The workers could have been a little warmer and more welcoming, but they seemed a little preoccupied with rearranging their display. Eh, might have just been «one of those days».
Approaching my car parked in the perfect lil spot… «uh oh» I mumbled… «what?» my friend asked me… «I’m getting a parking ticket! grrr, I didn’t see that meter there» «Ha! I didn’t even notice it either»… I stood behind the officer and said «Oh, I’ll just take that.» since he was walking to the front wiper after printing the ticket from his handheld handy-​dandy ticket printer… «Is that you?» he said to me while motioning to the truck. «Yes, I didn’t even see the meter…» and he said «Just throw a nickel in the thing, you’re fine» «THANK YOU!» as I quickly dug in the bottom of my Mary Poppins bag and threw in a quarter or two, oblivious to the fact that I was approaching my car to LEAVE, hah! I got in squealing with excitement, and watched him walk away, tossing the ticket in the trash can.
I love you mr officer, and don’t even know your name!

This place is pornography to a shopper. We spent about 20 minutes here and I was still pausing and glancing at things on the way out that I didn’t see the first time through.
I bought a cool little set of coasters that the owner, Pam, said were designed by a duo from Tokyo that she had found. She showed me some other designs by them and not only were the designs cool, but the canvases were creative and non standard as well (water bottles, vases, etc), some very cool stuff. They’ve got some of the standards like Marimekko and Wu Wu and many other designs I didn’t recognize. It’s sort of a New York meets rock and roll vibe, which fits incredibly well together. If I were into such adjectives, I might be inclined to call it «cute.»

I had been meaning to check out this store for weeks and weeks, and it was worth the wait. This cute little store was stuffed full of funky gifts, jewelry, home goods, books, and more. It is really nothing like anything else we have in Royal Oak. The selection of goods is very unique with items ranging from a needle pointed pillow to a skull and bones necklace to a book of band logos. The coolest thing about this store is that the selection is so eclectic that it can appeal to a wide range of tastes and styles. If you are looking for a store that’s out of the box then you must check this place out.
