Description

Specialties

We love pets, and we love taking care of your pets! Animal Medical Associates treats all varieties of companion pets, whether they are furry, scaled, or have wings! Our veterinarian is the only board certified veterinarian to treat both cats and exotic companion mammals in Maine, and we are the only AAHA certified referral hospital in Maine or New Hampshire.

Not only do we like to do the routine preventative care your pet needs to stay healthy, we also enjoy doing whatever we have to do to get your pet back on it’s feet after an illness, whether that is medical or surgical care, advanced diagnostics, dental care, or cancer care.

You and your pet deserve the best, and we strive to excel in everything we do at Animal Medical Associates. We think of your pet as if it were our own.

History

Established in 1938.

Animal Medical Associates was founded in 1938 by Dr. Clyde Dutton; then known as Dutton Animal Hospital. In 1972 it was sold to Dr. Emery Santerre, and in 1983, he was joined by Dr. Ginette Beaudoin. The name changed to Animal Medical Associates in 1991. In 2007, the practice was sold to Dr. Sandra Mitchell, who is the current owner and veterinarian at the facility. Animal Medical Associates has been proudly serving Southern Maine, as well as the surrounding states, for over 75 years!

Meet the Business Owner

Sandra Mitchell C.

Business Owner

Dr. Mitchell is the owner and veterinarian at Animal Medical Associates. She is a 1995 graduate of Cornell University, and has been in private practice ever since. She first obtained board certification through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners as a feline specialist, and later also became certified in Exotic Companion Mammals. She has owned Animal Medical Associates since 1997, having owned another veterinary hospital in northern Maine prior to that. Dr. Mitchell teaches other veterinarians and veterinary technicians world-wide, and is frequently contacted to help out as a consultant with their difficult cases. We’re happy to have her right here, where she can take care of your pet’s day to day needs, as well as help your family through times of illness.
